Sleep timer feature

A sleep timer feature would be great. I enjoy listening to music while I'm falling asleep but I dont like it playing all night draining my battery or having to turn it off myself before i sleep.

Hi ljjkmt, Great idea! However, there's already a suggestion for this feature here: Sleep Timer. This idea already has over 1,200 kudos, so it'd be great if you could go vote for it and add your comments there. :) Thanks,Kitty

  • Sleep Timer Feature in iTunes via Remote iOS app

I'm not sure this is the venue for this, but I would like the "Remote" iOS app (currently version 3.0.1) to let me set a "sleep timer" when I play a radio station on my iMac iTunes 11. I think this means iTunes must first have a "sleep timer" feature built-in before the Remote app can use it. There have been third-party "sleep timer" add-ons for YEARS, and yet Apple has not deemed it necessary to add the feature into iTunes. Unfortunately, these third-party add-ons cannot be accessed via the Remote app.
    Anyone here found a work-around?

ok so the remote app is grouping all my album artists together under one Artist name: "various artists"
need to find a way to stop this from happening

  • 7.5 web-auth client sleep timer feature

The 7.5 release advertises the ability to configure a timeout value so that guest clients which go to sleep are not re-prompted for web-auth.  Does anyone know if 7.5 would only be required on the anchor WLC or must it also be on the foreign?  We utilize web-auth for a guest WLAN and anchor it to a WLC in the DMZ.  Preference would be to NOT load 7.5 on every WLC we have and only upgrade our guest anchor.
    Thanks!
    Anthony

Hi Scott ( and all ),
I was making some tests with sleeping client with a infrastructure like this:
    - 2 foreign ( 5508 ) with the APs and client association
    - 2 anchor ( 4402 ) on the DMZ
    - radius for client auth
    From my understand the :
    - clients are associated to the foreign but
    - the authentication is forwarded to the anchor
( I can see the request on the radius with the anchor NAS IP address and, before the client is authenticated, i get the status as REQ_D state on the anchor )
So I suppose the sleeping client feature should be on the anchor ( or on both wontroller ) and not only on the foreign. I'm wrong ?
If You've some Idea to let it works with only sleeping config on the foreign i will solve one big issue because my anchors are 4402 without sleeping feature available.
All is working fine on the foreign if I remove the anchor configuration ( by the way, like this isn't anymore a foreign )

  • Sleep timer/idle shutoff, stop playback automatically when playlist is done

since this question's been asked and I was wondering if a new firmware released in the meantime added a sleep timer feature? Or as a workaround has an idle shutoff that will activate 30 mins or so after the last playlist is done playing? Cause on my friend's iPod (her first Apple ever) after all playlists are done the device starts playback from the beginning so if you listen to some audiobook at bedtime and slumber off the Shuffle will continue playback all night.

    No.

It would be a worthwhile feature, especially on the 3rd gen shuffle since it has
    an internal clock...

  • Set sleep time for multiple hard drives

I have 2 internal hard drives on my mac, one SSD boot drive and an HDD for media.
I would like to have the HDD go to sleep when it is not in use (i.e. when I am not using itunes) which is most of the time.
I have energy saver set to sleep drives when possible, and I have used CHUB Spindown HD to set the sleep time to 7 minutes. As far as I understand though, sleep time applies to both drives (i.e. if one drive is running then it wont sleep the other). This would explain why my HDD always shows active.
Is there way to set sleep times separately for separate drives?
    Thanks

Obviously, spin down doesn't apply to SSD's but for others the key phrase is "when possible." Some (usually external) drives ignore system settings completely & spin up or down according to their own internal logic. Typically, some of them automatically spin down after an internally set interval of inactivity & this is cannot be changed. Less typically, some spin up any time they are accessed, even if no actual read or write is requested, usually as a result of how proprietary energy saver features are implemented.
This should not apply to drives Apple has supplied as original equipment, or to almost any "raw" internal drive. However, certain operations keep drives spinning or spin them up, thus resetting the spin down timer, & it it isn't always obvious what they are. With your settings, if you leave the Mac alone for while, does internal never spin down? (IOW, can you hear it running without using any command to check on that?)

  • Issues with sleep/wake feature after 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

Just installed a 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro and now it doesn't wake up on it's own when I open the lid. I have to press the power button. It works fine with a smaller RAM upgrade.
I've tried putting in just one of the 8GB modules and the sleep/wake feature works as normal so there isn't a problem with the RAM modules that I've bought (Crucial.com). I've also put in a combination of Apple's original RAM and the new ones to make 10GB (8GB + 2GB), and the sleep/wake feature works on that too. Put both 8GB modules back in and the MacBook doesn't wake up when I open the lid, I have to press the power button to wake it up. The MacBook itself works fine, super fast and the memory is recognised on 'About This Mac', the sleep/wake issue is the only problem I'm having with the 16GB RAM.
Any thoughts on this? Has anybody else had this sleep/wake issue like this when upgrading RAM?

I upgraded my early 2011 MBP to 16 gigs with Crucial. My machine would not sleep properly, because when I tried to wake it, it would wake from its hibernate image file. This is the issue I've seen here in this list.
I tried all the suggestions I saw on these groups. Nothing helped. I contacted Crucial, who suggested that if their RAM was defective, they'd replace it per their warranty process. I needed some proof it was their RAM causing the problem.
I put the original 8 gigs RAM back in the machine (2 4 gig sticks), and it behaved normally. I then put one stick of Crucial RAM in, all by itself. The machine behaved normally. I put the other stick of Crucial RAM back in, and took the first one out. The machine would not properly sleep and wake from sleep. This proved that one stick was causing the problem, and the other was not.
    Defective RAM!
I then requested and received an RMA from Crucial to send the defective RAM back. They paid shipping. I got new sticks of RAM about a week later. These new sticks of RAM work properly. No sleep issues.
I'm surprised and disappointed to say that this is not the first time I've received defective RAM from Crucial. I've purchased from them for years, and had GREAT service and received high quality products. The past couple years my experience has been different.
I'm still pretty steamed about this, as I spent a great deal of time trying to diagnose the problem and fix it. I don't really have that kind of time to waste. My expectation was that their RAM was high quality, and unlikely to be at fault.
Perhaps this is just a bad batch of RAM. I get that. I can forgive them once. But this has happened twice in the past three years. I'll look elsewhere for my next memory purchase.
Keep in mind that their customer ratings are generally very high. My experience is probably  isolated.

  • HT4354 Nano 6G Sleep Timer: Where's the Manual?

I would like complete, concise directions on how to use the sleep timer (not the 36 hour sleep battery saver feature) conveniently (click on and off while in the music menus) while listening to music. Does Apple provide a complete manual for this product? The "manual" I found didn't have much information. Why can't software/hardware companies write manuals anymore? People are helpful on the forums, but the information ends up being fragmented, hard to search, difficult to date, & hard to pin down to a device version, etc.

They are trying to save trees.

  • No Sleep Timer or scheduled time on/off!!!

I'm a very new customer.  Just had phone/internet/tv service installed 2 days ago.
Not happy that there is no sleep time or scheduled time on and off on the STBs.  I used both these common features regularly when I was an Optimum customer. I realize I can use the sleep timer on my tv if I like to fall asleep with it on.  But why would Verizon in the very least have the box turn off on its own after say 6 hours of inactivity?
This is the 21st century Verizon!!! When I called I was told there were no plans to add these features.  COME ON VERIZON! GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

Verizon will not be adding a sleep timer. The reason is that while adding a sleep timer to the stb is possible. It will only turn off the STB, not the tv. The TV would remain on. Now in and of itself, this doesnt sound like anything to worry about, until you consider that all the STB updates are done in the middle of the night (2-3am). Updates to the stb turn it on and off as it reboots and updates. This would cause the pic and sound on the TV to come back on in the middle of the night. Not good.
In fact that is the reason for the "press menu to watch fios tv" message on the TV that was added with IMG 1.6.  Many people were turning off the STB and when the pic went blank on the screen, they thought the TV was off too. Then when the STB's updated in the middle of the night, suddenly people were hearing voices in the house. This frightened several people and Verizon responded by putting a message on the screen to let people know that the tv was still on.
No, sleep timer on the STB will not happen. Its a bad idea. But the TV's do have a sleep timer. Now what Verizon should do is to add a sleep button to the remote to control the TV's sleep timer. But who knows if they will do that....
Now while some people would be able to set additional devices to turn off with the STB. Most would not. And Verizon needs and should consider the masses, not the individuals.

  • Sleep Timer on Walkman??

Does WALKMAN on Xperia Z1 have a sleep timer setting? If so, how to activate that feature?
    Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I think you can use Smart Connect app. Create an event there, Then add condition, Choose "TIME". Then set the time when you want to sleep Walkman app (TIP: Since it will be asking "between" what time, set the time, and 1 minute after...). Add start action, Click "Play Tracks", Choose "Pause".
I hope it helps. This is always my setting in favor of the Walkman app over Poweramp.

  • How to use a sleep timer with iTunes

I just whipped up a little sleep timer for iTunes on request, and wanted to make it available to anyone who was looking for a way to listen to iTunes for a set amount of time and then have it paused (instead of having to make a playlist of a particular length).
You can also have it shut down the computer or put it on stand by after it pauses iTunes.
    To download, go here:
    http://www.ephpod.com/ast/

I'm having a similar issue: just redeemed a gift card for $25. I can see it in the upper right corner. Yet when I select a song to download, I am (again) asked to sign in and select a credit card to use. I don't want to use a credit card, I want to use the $25 card. This hasn't happened to me before now. If I click the 'redeem gift card' option in the credit card screen, it correctly says that that card has already been redeemed.

  • NEEDED: An App That Reports WHO is Resetting the Sleep Timer!

If you've ever tried troubleshooting the problem of your Mac not going to sleep after the period of inactivity that you have set in System Prefs, you know what I'm talking about. I've had this problem off & on for years and I have it again now. I cannot for the life of me determine what is causing it this time. If only there was an app that would do nothing but create a short log listing the processes that are resetting the sleep timer, this problem would be a no-brainer, and would save me and a lot of other people a great deal of time & frustration.
So I'm appealing to some Mac programmer out there to set aside this weekend to come up with such a utility, and I'll buy you a steak dinner.

You are correct that things would be easier if it was automatic. However, you will generally find that it is a program with a built-in scheduler, such as a backup program or a video recording program, that left some code behind even if the program was trashed or removed from the system.
As far as the PDP11, I don't think I could afford the electricity to run one even if I had one. The PDP11 is the first computer I was exposed to in medical imaging. I list it because every once in a while it draws out the truth from folks like yourself when they admit to knowing what one is.
I think the first disk drives that thing used were housed in recycled washing machines using the old motors to drive the spindles.

  • Mac Sleep Timer (through 'Energy Saver' in System Preferences) won't work

    Hello,
    I have a MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2009) running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3,
and it has been installed with the latest software updates possible.
(The latest update is the 'Security Update 2010-003')
Previously I was using Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 on my MacBook,
and I can vaguely remember the timed computer sleep through Energy Saver would work.
That is, when the counter's time matches the amount of time I specified (e.g. 10 minutes), the computer enters sleep mode and displays a pulsing power light.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard I can barely remember the scheduled computer sleep will work as I don't really notice how it sleeps / I will shut down my MacBook before I go to bed.
    ==========
However, last night I was really tired and slept in front of my MacBook unconsciously.
When I woke up, I found that my MacBook didn't display a pulsing power light but a continuously-growing power light.
I tapped the trackpad and the display turned on, so I knew that my MacBook didn't go to sleep a whole night.
*What that means is that the Sleep Timer (through 'Energy Saver' in System Preferences) won't work.*
But the timed display sleep DOES work.
    ==========
After spending a whole day Googling,
I found that there are plenty of people suffering the same problem as me, although their Macs and OSs vary.
I also found an official support page from Apple concerning the related issue:
Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep or stay in sleep mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776
I tried the following methods but still can't resolve the problem:
_- boot my MacBook in safe mode_
_- use the 'Disk Utility' to repair Disk Permissions through booting my MacBook from the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation DVD_
_- reset NVRAM (Intel-based) (as PRAM is used by PowerPC-based Macs)_
_- reset SMC (System Management Controller)_
NONE of the above-mentioned methods can resolve the problem.
Althought I am sure that the Spotlight isn't indexing the hard drive, and I just start my computer and do nothing and wait for the scheduled computer sleep, the scheduled computer sleep just won't work.
In the other Mac forum, I saw someone suggest installing an application called PleaseSleep:
    http://www.dragonone.com/products/macosx/pleasesleep/
    It works.
But I really want to find out what caused this problem as this is a function shipped with Mac which is expected to work normally.
What's more, Apple is claiming to be a green Apple, right?

    ==========
Looking forward to your replies! Thanks in advance!

Found this discussion by googling "com.apple.systempreferencescouldn't find any matches"...
One month ago I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13", and after a couple of weeks I realized it wasn't sleeping on its own when it should, per the system preferences. (I did sleep when I chose "Sleep" in the menus or closed it... It just wouldn't sleep on its own, while open.) What was extra frustrating was that it was intermittent... It would sleep on its own maybe 1/3 of the time, but other times it would NEVER go to sleep. I deleted PowerManagement.plist, reset the SMC, etc... No luck.
I took it to the "geniuses" at the Apple Store, and the guy took all of five minutes trying to diagnose the problem. When my MBP wouldn't sleep on its own, he promptly replaced it with a new one. That was nice, but I actually would have preferred that he diagnosed and fixed it. (I think the store was so swamped with people coming in for service that day that they were doing anything they could to close cases and get customers out of there ASAP.)
Now, sitting here with my 48-hour-old MBP, I still have the problem. The other one was so new that I had barely put anything on it yet. The only applications I had put on it were MS Office for Mac 2011, Firefox, Chrome, and Adobe Flash Player. I've put Office and Flash Player on this one, but not yet Firefox or Chrome. That's it. No other customization or fancy business.
I looked into the Console just now, and I see the "Couldn'tfind any matches" entry popping up again and again. The last three seemed to pop upright around the time when my MBP should have gone to sleep on its own, but not down to the second, so it's hard to definitively point at that and say it's it for sure.
    They need to fix this!!
