You'll need to send the iPod in for service either to Apple or a third party service center.

  • My sleep/wake button is broken/jammed and I forgot my password help

I need to restore but in order to do that I need to put my phone in recovery mode. However, my sleep/wake button does not work. It's jammed I think because I can't press down on it. The button isn't a big deal to me but since I forgot my lock code I don't know what else to do. I no longer have access to the computer I orginally synced it to. I've searched but everything either says to restore or do something that requires the screen to be unlocked. It's and ipod touch 4th gen

Use this program to place the iPod in recovery mode.

  • My iPod touch sleep/wake button is jammed.

Does anyone know any way to get my sleep/wake button fixed for cheap? I don't even inderstand why it's jammed. I have been gental with it, such. I'm really expecting any good support as Apple is horrible with that. (From past expierences) But I just decided to post so I could find out what has work best for anyone who expierenced the same problems. Also, my friend's iPod isn't charging. Yesterday it worked completely fine, and then today at school it suddenly stopped working. We switched iPods for the day and I tried to fix his iPod but nothing will work. I have tried forced recovery and DFU mode. I think it may be a bad battery or maybe the charger port is broken, but how do I tell?

For the Power switch Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
    For your freind's iPod
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Also:
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

  • I have to restore my iphone 4s becasue it is saying "disabled connect to itunes" and it's never been synced with itunes. However the sleep/wake button is broken on the phone is there still away to restore without using it?

I have to restore my iphone 4s becasue it is saying "disabled connect to itunes" and it's never been synced with itunes. However the sleep/wake button is broken on the phone is there still away to restore without using it?

You can try, but the problem with that is you need battery power in order to restore. Once your phone has enough power to restore, it will still show the same message. To get the phone into either recovery mode or DFU mode requires the ability to first turn the phone off. But, you've got nothing to lose, so you might as well give it a shot.

  • Seemingly broken sleep/wake button...

I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my iPhone 4S in the two years I've had it, but today I'm having a terrible time with my sleep/wake button. It's not completely broken to the point of not working at all, but to use it, I must press down on the button with max force and it still doesn't work quickly like it should. My iPod touch 2nd generation has a similar issue, but it comes and goes, which is sort of weird. Any suggestions on fixing this and anyone else experience the same issue?

Either get a 3rd party to fix your phone, or bring it, and $199 to Apple for out of warranty replacement.

  • Broken sleep/wake button.

My sleep/wake button has been broken for a while and my phone decides to turn off itself. I have plugged it up to the wall charger and the computer. But nothing has happened. I even held the home button down for a while. Is there anything I can do? Or should I just go to get my phone serviced? I have had so much trouble with iphones... Please help.

    Dear Sterling,
What Apple doesn't mention on the site is that if you have the tiniest, and I mean TINIEST scuff on the edge of the phone, they don't repair it for you.
Wouldn't be too much to ask to make this disclaimer on the site. Would have saved me at least 2 hours.
    Best,

  • Crisis!!! sleep/wake button broken, blank screen, unable to restart... HELP!!

my sleep/wake button is not functioning and i just had a black screen. My friends are able to call me and they tell me it rings but i just get a blank screen. i really dont know how to restart and beg someone to  help me. Thank you... (iPhone 5)

If there is a broken button there is nothing you can do. Take the phone to an Apple store and they will replace it, as all 5's are still in warranty. Make a genius bar reservation first at https://www.apple.com/retail.

  • Sleep / Wake button broken: Apple Genius Says $250 to Repair

I've been on this forum before asking on what to do about jammed sleep / wake button! The phone will randomly go to the apple screen, and can only be turned back on by putting it on the power supply.
I set up a meeting with an apple genius today, and the guy looked at my phone and said that the limited warranty did not cover what had happened. He blamed the jam on me abusing the phone. The overall solution to this is me paying $250 for them to go in the back and give me a refurb phone. I have the 4GB phone which I overall paid $299 for.
Personally, I'm not to happy with how I was treated today!

    Tischer,
Was the iPhone dropped, or show signs of having been dropped such as a dented case?
It sounds like he was quoting you the accidental abuse repair cost for an 8GB iPhone. This link explains the pricing:

    Hope this helps,

  • Sleep/wake button broken but moved country

my sleep/wake button doesn't work anymore and my phone is eligible for the recall with the sleep/wake buttons not working, but my problem is that i have moved to Australia and the phone was originally purchased in the UK, does any one know how i can go about getting it fixed as it will run out of warranty soon and the apple store wouldn't touch it.

Note that you can mimic the Sleep/Wake button by using AssistiveTouch until you can get the hardware issue fixed.
Enabling AssistiveTouch floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device:
    Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON
*Note* If you power off the device using the AssistiveTouch panel (tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, Device>Lock Screen (tap and hold to power off)), you will NOT be able to power on the device if your Sleep/Wake (power) button is not functioning. You will need to connect the powered off device either to a PC's USB port or an external charger to power the device back on.

  • HT1212 Restoring Ipod touch with broken/unusable sleep/wake button

got a broken sleep/wake button and my kidz put a wrong passcodes on it many times, now it is locked, is there any way I can restore this back even if I don't have it backed up with my computer? I'm just using screen home button that is why I can't restore it using the ordinary way.

Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and restore via iTunes:

    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot

  • Password disabled phone + broken sleep/wake button + never synced to itunes

    A very frustrating problem:
    1. My iphone 5 was disabled by a friend (She typed in too many wrong passwords).
    2. The sleep/wake button (NOT HOME BUTTON) is broken so I cannot get into recovery mode manually.
    3. My iphone was never synced to itunes.
I've seen a couple of solutions but so far none were viable for a iphone that had all three of these conditions.
Any possible ways to get out of this?
Any kind of suggestions/support would be appreciated!

Unfortunately,  sometimes kids like technology too much to keep their hand off.  Hence the password set up.  It isn't always about forgetting passwords.  I attempted to follow the directions on the apple site.  It didn't work.  I went to the AT&T store and she could help except printing off the same page i tried.  I called Customer support &  they wanted to charge me.  I called back and got someone more responsive.  He said I was doing everything correct.  He suggested to reconnect the computer w/Ethernet connection rather than wireless.  Disconnect the computer and restart.  That seemed to work.  I lost all photos etc from vacation but I can use it.

  • 3GS sleep/wake button is jammed

The sleep/wake button on my 3GS is jammed on one side of the phone. Instead of being parallel with the top of the phone, it slants to the right. It is now hard to push and and sometimes it causes the phone to sleep or not wake at times. Does anyone know what I can do before I send it off and not have it for a week?

If you have a genius bar anywhere near you, that is a much more viable option. I wouldn't really recommend trying too hard as you might give them reason to claim it is your fault, more than they might already try to do.
But if you don't mind the risk, you could try picking it back out to normal, but I am willing to bet you've already tried that.
I hope you get a good resolve

  • HT201263 What if the button on top of my ipod touch is broken. It's the sleep/wake button, and it doesn't really work anymore. HELP ME! I NEED MY MUSIC!

Ok so my ipod touch just turned off by itself..again. I got it to work again last time cause the sleep/wake button still worked...Now it doesn't. What do I do?! I don't have money to get it repaired cause we all know Apple ain't cheap to fix! Any Suggestions will help!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Where it says use recovery mode use this program
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
      - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem

  • HT1212 Because it says ipod disabled I cant get it to reset, i try holding down the sleep/wake button and home or either or and nothing happens.  what now?

The i pod is disabled I cant conect to i tunes because it says to enter password.   I have followed the steps to try a hard reset by holding down just the sleep/wake button or that and home button till the slidder bar showes which is not happening   it has the lock symbol in the middle top screen of the red bar so i cant even get it to unlock.... any suggestions on how to shut this thing off so i can get it into recovery mode to reset it?

Try placing the iPod in ecovery mode and then restoring the iPod via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would beto wait for the battery to fully drain and the charge and try again.
