Sleep/Wake button is jammed!!

I was playing golf the other day and a buddy of mine slapped me on the leg with the grip end of his golf club. He hit my iphone, perfectly in-line with the sleep/wake button, and now the button is stuck in the phone.
He didn't hit it hard which is why I am surprised it is stuck. Have any of you had a similar problem, or do you think this will be covered under apple's warranty(allowing me to switch my current iPhone for a new one free-of-charge)?
Any yes or no answer would be appreciated, thanks.

I went to the local Apple Store near me last night and saw a Genius. I told him I pushed the button in and it got stuck, but he didn't really believe me. Since there was no damage to the outside of my iPhone and there was minimal scratching around the button area he couldn't really argue with me. He swapped my iPhone with a new one and I walked out of the store happy as anything, after buying a new case of course (A nice Les Paul rubber one that fits good).
P.S. If I learned anything from this experience it is to always have a case on my iPhone because I am sure that if I had a case this wouldn't have been a problem. (I had one but didn't like it and then took it off and never put it back on).

  • My iPod touch sleep/wake button is jammed.

Does anyone know any way to get my sleep/wake button fixed for cheap? I don't even inderstand why it's jammed. I have been gental with it, such. I'm really expecting any good support as Apple is horrible with that. (From past expierences) But I just decided to post so I could find out what has work best for anyone who expierenced the same problems. Also, my friend's iPod isn't charging. Yesterday it worked completely fine, and then today at school it suddenly stopped working. We switched iPods for the day and I tried to fix his iPod but nothing will work. I have tried forced recovery and DFU mode. I think it may be a bad battery or maybe the charger port is broken, but how do I tell?

For the Power switch Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
    For your freind's iPod
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Also:
    - Try another cable
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

  • 3GS sleep/wake button is jammed

The sleep/wake button on my 3GS is jammed on one side of the phone. Instead of being parallel with the top of the phone, it slants to the right. It is now hard to push and and sometimes it causes the phone to sleep or not wake at times. Does anyone know what I can do before I send it off and not have it for a week?

If you have a genius bar anywhere near you, that is a much more viable option. I wouldn't really recommend trying too hard as you might give them reason to claim it is your fault, more than they might already try to do.
But if you don't mind the risk, you could try picking it back out to normal, but I am willing to bet you've already tried that.
I hope you get a good resolve

  • Sleep/wake button completely jammed

I got my iPhone 4S 4 month ago with otter box for my phone case for extra protection. I did not drop my phone, but one time my sleep button randomly started to get sticky now it's completely jammed. Apple stores are pretty far from where I currently live, so I can't really go to apple store to get it fix. My coverage status is technical supports are not available, but repair service is still on. I want to get my sleep button fixed. What can I do?

    Take it in for service.

  • My sleep/wake button is broken/jammed and I forgot my password help

I need to restore but in order to do that I need to put my phone in recovery mode. However, my sleep/wake button does not work. It's jammed I think because I can't press down on it. The button isn't a big deal to me but since I forgot my lock code I don't know what else to do. I no longer have access to the computer I orginally synced it to. I've searched but everything either says to restore or do something that requires the screen to be unlocked. It's and ipod touch 4th gen

Use this program to place the iPod in recovery mode.

  • CDMA iPhone 4's sleep/wake button isn't working

Ok so this afternoon I was doing the usual and using my awesome iPhone 4. After locking the screen my pressing the sleep/wake button, the button became jammed. It won't go up or down, or click to preform the sleep/wake functions. Will Apple cover this? It is still under the 1 year limited warranty. The back glass is also cracked and spider webbed.

I had exactly the same problem. I took it to the Apple Store and they peered up inside and said I had "obviously used some corrosive liquid" on it, so the problem was not covered by the warranty. I have no idea what "corrosive liquid" it could have been--I am very careful with my iPod, keeping it in a case, etc. The only thing I could think of was sweat from the gym, but they said that wouldn't do it. So they basically gave me a replacement one but charged me $150! I have been extra careful with the replacement one, but after 2 weeks, it is having exactly the same problem.
I just did a hard reset (held down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously until the Apple Logo appears. Now it kinda works sometimes. Sometimes I have to push the button multiple times before it goes to sleep.
This is extremely frustrating as I am very careful in handling it. Makes me think there is some other problem with it, or these things are just so fragile they can't take the wear and tear of normal use.

  • SLEEP/WAKE BUTTON STUCK

Does anyone have any experience of the sleep/wake button becoming stuck?  One minute it was fine, the next it is jammed and I can't switch the phone off.

Amazingly, the problem kinda just fixed itself. I left it alone, didn't use it for a good long while (couple months), and then it just started working right and not acting up at all. Hasn't done it for months and is working fine.
    Weird.

  • Is there a way to reset iPod touch 4th gen without the sleep/wake button?

Hey everyone! My iPod touch 4th gen power button is jammed into the iPod itself. This is obviously a big issue, but is not the main point of this post. My iPod has been laggy and slow, so I need to reset it. (NOT restore, but slide to power off; press and hold home+power for 10 seconds) is there a way for me to do this without my sleep/wake button.
    Thanks in advance.

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

  • Sleep / Wake button broken: Apple Genius Says $250 to Repair

I've been on this forum before asking on what to do about jammed sleep / wake button! The phone will randomly go to the apple screen, and can only be turned back on by putting it on the power supply.
I set up a meeting with an apple genius today, and the guy looked at my phone and said that the limited warranty did not cover what had happened. He blamed the jam on me abusing the phone. The overall solution to this is me paying $250 for them to go in the back and give me a refurb phone. I have the 4GB phone which I overall paid $299 for.
Personally, I'm not to happy with how I was treated today!

    Tischer,
Was the iPhone dropped, or show signs of having been dropped such as a dented case?
It sounds like he was quoting you the accidental abuse repair cost for an 8GB iPhone. This link explains the pricing:

  • Sleep/wake button works, but not when iPhone is asleep

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5. When my phone is asleep the top wake/sleep button is unresponsive. The home button will wake the phone up, and once it's awake I can use the top button to wake/sleep the phone. But if I sleep the phone (not turn it off but just sleep it) and wait about 30 seconds, then the top button becomes unresponsive. I've tried holding the top button and that doesn't do anything either.
I do not have Applecare for the phone, nor is under warranty.
I tried the Apple top button replacement web site, but it reports that the phone isn't in the serial number range of affected phones.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Craig Volpe,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's sleep/wake button not waking the phone up when it has been asleep for more than 30 seconds, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device

  • My daughter tried to open a game on her Ipod touch and the screen went white and I can't get it to do ANYTHING...I've tried holding the sleep/wake button and it does NOTHING, still only a white screen.

My daughter tried to play the My Horse game on her Ipod touch that she got for Christmas and when she opened the game it said something about sending "push notifications" and gave the choice of "don't allow" or "ok"...we chose "don't allow". After that the screen went white and now we cannot get the Ipod touch to respond to anything. I tried holding the sleep/wake button to try to restart it and it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions to get this device working again???

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, try a Restore:
From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.
There's more that you can do.  Post back if none of the above solves the problem.
By the way, I always allow "push."  That allows the app developer to "push" information to your device rather than waiting for you to ask for it.  However, "don't allow" shouldn't cause the problem that you're experiencing.

  • I have an iphone 5 that i trade with a family member they have coverage on it. now the iphones sleep wake button doesnt work sometimes can apple replace my iphone even if i dont have the box or recipit to the product or can they just repair it?

i have an iphone 5 that i traded with from a family member. its has coverage but now the sleep/wake button doesnt work sometimes. can apple replace my iphone and give me a new one or is it just something they can repair? i dont have the box or recipit to apple care or the iphone

Apple can fix it without your receipt or box. They pull the serial number from the device and determine warranty status from that.  Hopefully ApplCare was registered to the product before you lost the receipt though.  If not, you can go back to the point of purchase and obtain your AppleCare receipt and Apple can help attach it to the iPhone.

  • My ipod touch is not recognized on itunes and will not turn on or give me the battery sign. I have tried toubleshooting it by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button, but it doesn't work. What do I do to fix it?

My ipod touch is not recognized on itunes and will not turn on or even give me the battery sign that it is dead. I turned it off and it won't turn back on now. The screen is completely black and won't do anything. I have tried charging it over night and nothing happened. It was never near water. I have tried troubleshooting it by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button, but nothing happened and it didn't work. What can I do to fix it?

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
