Sleep / Wake Issues With Network Drops

I have a Mac Mini connected to the home network via ethernet (NO WiFi At All).
When the Mac Mini does to sleep it no longer appears on the network.
If I open my iMacs Finder it no longer appears in the shared folder.
Wake for network access is checked but it does not seem to happen.
If I go to Go Connect to server via finder and manually enter the address
then it connects and pops up on finder but not on its own.  Eventually
when Mac Mini goes to sleep it drops off again.
Anybody else have or heard of this?
Started with Yosemite.

  • Sleep/wake Issues With Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13"

    Dear Apple Community,
I have been recently having issues with the sleep/wake cycle of my laptop. Every time my laptop goes to sleep and I try to wake it up it gets stuck on a blank screen for 3 mins before returning to normal functionality. I have tried deleting the sleep image files and the laptop functions fine for a day and then back to the same issues. I have 3 sleep image files, 2 of them are 1.07gb each and the other one is 64mg. I have deleted them many times and they just come back with the same issues. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank You

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Sleep/Wake issue with 5K Retina

I Have just purchased an Apple iMac 5K Retina, 4Ghz and 16 GB of RAM. I am experiencing an intermittent warning, which suggests that the system has restarted from Sleep, for some reason. I have contacted Apple Service, who took over the system and gave it a thorough test. After the test and removing an external Disc, the problem seemed to have disappeared. However, this afternoon, it came back again. After closing the warning, the computer seems to operate as expected, with no obvious  symptoms. i have originally been told that I can return the iMac if the error re-occurs, which it has. The system is not standard, so I probably would not get a replacement before Christmas, but having spent over £2000 on the equipment, I do not want a flawed product. I will also find the re-instatement to Factory settings a real ' ***'. Any advice from an expert would be much appreciated, before I ring Apple tomorrow. Should I try to return it or is it a trivial issue?

So while still having no solution I've tried several things to solve the problem though:
I've read in some forums that dropbox might have been an issue. Uninstalled it, problem persisted.
I've also unpluged each USB cable one after the other to see if any of the USB devices caused the Problem. No result. My iMac persistantly woke up from sleep even with no USB device connected at all.
Logs show the following on each occasion:
Wake reasion: XHC1 (which apparently is USB)
The USB device BRCM20702 Hub (Port 8 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (3)
The USB device Bluetooth USB Host Controller (Port 3 of Hub at 0x14800000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (3)
    Systemprofile tells us that:
    0x14000000 i couldn't clearly identify but
    0x148000000 should be "BRCM20702 Hub
    Conclusion:
As no EXTERNAL USB Device caused the iMac to wake up it must either be a driver failure or someting similar within the machine or some bluetooth device. The latter is less likely as it's the third of three wake reason provided by the console.
I do not have any wired keyboard or mouse so I can't verify wether Apples wireless Keyboard & Trackpad could be an issue.

  • Mac Pro with Dell UP2414Q Sleep Wake Issue

    Hi,
I have *two* Dell UP2414Q displays connected to a new Mac Pro, both using Display Port 1.2 (MST) setting in order to get 4K @ 60Hz.
Works fine. Except Google Chrome which is really lame at redrawing all these pixels when you scroll up/down.
The issue is: when the displays go to sleep for a longer period of time (actually it's probably when the Mac Pro itself has gone to sleep) and I wake the system up, the Dells sometimes won't wake up!
And if I start fiddling with the display buttons I will get a half image (left half of the screen). Same problem on each display except sometime it's the first one that doesn't wake up, sometimes it's the second one and sometimes it's both. Unfortunately the situation where they both wake up is extremely rare
Has anyone else had similar troubles?
Note: I have had similar sleep wake issues with just one UP2414Q connected.
    I'm running OS X 10.9.4 (of course).
I'm also having a 3rd smaller display connected though a DVI adapter. That one wakes up 100% of the time. I previously had 3 of these and they did always wake up all 3 without issues.
    -Francois.

I have this issue with the UP2414Q monitor and my new Mac Pro . . . . . and then some.
I started by losing the right half of the screen on wake up. After about two months of use, my monitor has developed a fault where both sides of the monitor are displayed but at seemingly very different calibrations. The left half is contrasty and the right half seems to be correctly matched to my working profile. This is using the display port connections. HDMI doesn't have this problem but it also won't run at 60Hz, which was an important factor in my choice of this monitor.
At this point I contacted both Apple and Dell. Although I have had quite a few different Apple support staff over a period of a week or so, they did keep good notes, were very patent and seemed to take a genuine interest into trouble shooting it. I cannot say the same for Dell. At first they did ask questions and did the right thing by sending a replacement. It worked fine on display port, then on HDMI but when I connected it back to display port the split screen problem occurred on the brand new replacement one too. After a day of fiddling with connections it went back to displaying correctly with all connections and has not reverted but it does now have the dead right halve on wakeup more frequently than before. I reconnected the original monitor but that has the split screen problem and I can't find a way of getting it to go away. It is unusable.
This incident with the replacement monitor was five days ago. In that time I have tried to contact Dell support by the original e-mail of the technician that initially helped and by phone, through the support number. The email gets the repeated response "Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your email. I have left for the day, hence my reply will be delay". It happens in the mooring or the afternoon. A phone call to Dell's support number always starts with a promise to be transferred to the technician dealing with my case and, without fail ends by me being left on hold indefinitely with a terrible one minute audio loop followed by a repeated promise of the next available agent. I once waited over 30 minutes, just to test it. I live in Australia but this was clearly an international call centre. Dell obviously have no intention of dealing with my case. They will have to talk soon though because I still have an extra one of their monitors.
Unless there is a firmware update for this monitor, I would strongly advise against buying one for a Mac, or any Dell product for that matter.

  • My itunes account shuts down for no reason.  It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and itunes.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a syste restore on my computer, firewall checked and virus scan done.  Ideas??

My itunes account on windows xp shuts down for no reason.  If even try to delete something from my library it shuts down.   It wont recognize my iphone and there is an issue with network connectivity and I can't connect to the store.  I have already  reinstalled itunes and did a system restore on my computer, firewall has been checked, itunes is ok on firewall and virus scan done.  Ideas??

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • Connecting external NEC PA271W via Displayport cable to MBPr has sleep/wake issues

I am experiencing strange sleep/wake issues after connecting my NEC PA271W 27'' external monitor via a mini-displayport to displayport cable to my MBPr.
Waking up from sleep mode, the resolution of my monitor would be set to 1440x768 instead of the proper 2560x1440 and I always have to go to system settings to get it right.
NEC claims this may be due to cable issues and Apple using a "wrong" mini displayport standard but I have tried 4 different cable manufacturers and this is just strange.
    Anybody else experiencing similar issues?

  • MAC Mini late 2014 Sleep Wake issue

I just bought a MAC Mini late 2014 version with Yosemite pre-installed, and got a similar sleep wake problem.
It's connected to an ASUS IPS 27" screen using HDMI interface. When the Mac goes to sleep after 15 min, or when I press the button to force it to sleep.
If you type on the keyboard and the trackpad within 1 minute (before the screen also goes to sleep because of no HDMI signal), then the wake up will work.
If you wait till the screen goes to sleep also, then no matter how hard you pound on the keyboard or on the track pad, the MAC will not wake up.
The only way to wake it up is to power off the screen, then power it on again. Then type on the keyboard or move your track pad while doing that.
This is really annoying. I have to set to "Never" turn the display off to avoid this issue.
Called the Apple tech support who recommended I set up the energy saver like this below. But still could not fix the issue.
He told me to bring the Mac mini back to the shop to check.
I doubt it's a hardware issue. My theory is that this  could be a software bug that somehow
the setting of "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" is not in effect even if you turned it on in the power saver preference.
So, when the computer goes to sleep, there is no more HDMI signal, then the screen also goes to sleep.
And if "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" is not in effect, then even if you type on the keyboard, the computer will not wake up as the screen is asleep. The screen will not wake up as no HDMI signal comes from the computer.
This turns into a viscious cycle, or a deadlock. Nobody is waking up.
This is simple logic. I don't know why systems are designed to work like that. Just too annoying....
I hope apple can fix this software bug asap.
I did try to convert my HDMI cable to min-display port and try to plug that into the thunderbolt port to see if it helps.
The same issue appears. The only difference is, with the HDMI port, once I am able to wake up the computer by power cycling my screen, i will see that I am prompted with a login screen, even if I set up my computer to auto login.
but when I use the display port, when I managed to wake up the MAC, it bypasses the login screen.

Some updates on this. I tried two other 22" screen. Both of the seems to be working fine with sleep wake, but takes between 40 sec to one min to wake up after you typed something.
    Topcon hdmi 22"  screen
17 sec after keystrokes to turn wake screen
    40 sec to wake computer
    AOC  hdmi  22" screen
19 sec after keystrokes to turn wake screen
    38 sec to wake computer
I tried to switch to two other HDMI cables to see if it'll improve the situation of my original ASUS VX279 IPS HDMI screen.
But it didn't. Still never wakes up after it the MAC goes to sleep until you power cycle the screen.
I guess there is some hardware compatibility issue here.
Let me bring my mac mini to the shop to see if a replacement will help.

  • New Sleep Wake Issue

Hey there MacBook owners. I seem to have a new issue with my MacBook not coming alive after I shut the lid and putting it to rest for the evening. I leave the computer asleep, rather than do a complete shutdown. But this morning when I was ready to go online, I opened the display deal and the sleep light wasn't purring like it should and the computer was totally black screen. I hit the space bar and mmoved the mosue pad which always wakes it up. But today was the fist time ever that it wouldn't come alive. I hit the power button to do a restart, but dead, no chime, nothing. I then unhooked the power cord from the computer, hit the power switch, then bam, like magic, it restarted fine. It took a little longer than usual, but it was a hard restart.
I am on OS 10.5.2, no new software or updates to anything have been done as I recall. As I said, this is the first time this has happened. The computer seems to be running fine online and working big hi-rez images in Photoshop, no crashes or hangs. I do have AppleCare, but I need my computer for the continual workflow I have going daily, so to put it into the shop, I am hoping to avoid. This glitch seems to have something to do with the computer hooked to the AC power cord. The computer is at 99-100% charge, so charging is normal.
Anyone having this same issue and found out what it is and how to correct it?
    Thanks for any help Steve

I had the same problem, along with random waking. I took it to the Genius Bar and mailed it for repairs twice. They replaced the logic board the last time and the problem you described has not recurred.
I'll have to send it back again because its still randomly waking, on a regular basis, with the lid opened or closed.

  • Macbook sleep wake up with lid closed

Hi everybody. Since 10.9 I had a strange issue with sleep on my MBP 15. If I put it in sleep with the button and I close the lid, it will wake up closed waiting for the password.
Also, if it is in sleep while charging, or charged, and I plug off the magsafe, it will wake up again....even with lid closed.
Already resetted PRAM, SMC, all the basics, any idea?
    Thnx in advance

  • Sleep wake problems with Yosemite update

I faced a multitude of issues with Yosemite 10.10. Following the 10.10.1 update, some of those were solved, but some still remained, namely those related to the Mail app, where mail server has to be selected manually. However, a new problem has arisen with the update: after going on sleep mode, the system does not wake, and needs to be rebooted. This happens every time, and makes me wonder about Apple's reliability, as it is starting to feel microsoft Vista like. Polishing the looks of the system is fine, bu doing so at the expense of performance, reliability and overall user experience is unacceptable. Looks as if a further update can not come soon enough.

  • Sleep/Wake Issues - New user

I am new to the world of Mac having been a Windoze user but I am now a convert and love of all things Mac.
I do have 2 issues with regards to sleeping and waking up though, which are frustrating.
issue 1. My Mac has all of a sudden started to wake up at 1am every day, ive not asked it to and no idea whats causing it to or why its all of a sudden started to do it.
issue 2. My Mac wont go to sleep after the programmed time ive set, (15 mins) the monitor does and goes into sleep mode automatically but the Mac wont and the power light stays on (instead of flashing in sleep mode). While i have applications open (safari, itunes) none are actually in use so i assumed after 15 mins like a Windows based machine it would send itself to sleep....i have even tried closing all apps to see if it would sleep then, but still no luck.
Ive done a search on google and here to try and get answers but i cant find anything concrete and due to my lack of Mac knowledge i have to say HELP PLEASE!!
    Is anyone able to assist?

    thanks fro the reply
Yeah checked scheduled times already and only things is a scheduled shutdown ive set.
Whats pram?? Do i just hold the buttons down as it the machine starts up?? Any ideas what those keys would be in a normal keyboard as i dont have a mac one.....i know the windows key is the same as the apple symbol key i guess the other must be ctrl??
Any thoughts on 2? Should the machine be able to sleep automatically with programs open??

  • RAM & sleep/wake issues

I just purchased a set of Mushkin Apple 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM 9-9-9-24 (976647A) RAM for my mid 2011 27" iMac and everything ran great for a few days.  I was able to sleep and wake the machine with no problems.  Last night I was doing some graphic intensive work on my machine and when I had finished, the fans were still running high but I was going to bed so I put the machine to sleep. Normally the fans would stop at this point but they kept running. I assumed the machine was still hot so it was just cooling after sleeping.
The next morning the machine would not wake. I had to do a hard reset to get it to boot up again I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it still doesn't wake from sleep.  Am I have issues with my RAM?
    How can I check this?
    Thank you.

  • IMac G5 Sleep/Wake Issues

Good afternoon. I am trying to diagnose an issue for a friend who has an iMac G5 1.6GHz 17-inch PowerPC running Tiger purchased in September of 2004.
When the iMac falls into sleep mode for a period of time (usually 30 minutes or longer), when attempting to wake it, the pulsating light disappears and the CPU seems to just shut down. The only way for the system to start again is to pull the power plug and put it back in. He had an iSight camera attached to it via firewire and the housing of the camera was very hot along with the back of the system. I tried removing all peripherals and the sleep process worked fine. I tried process of elimination to see if any peripherals were causing the wake issues. I had suspected the iSight camera but now, the system is doing it again without the camera being attached. I've also tried resetting the PRAM, SMC and repaired all disk permissions to no avail. I have not yet had the ability to check the LED diagnostic configuration.
Has anyone dealt with a similar issue before? Much obliged if I could get some ideas from here so I can know what to expect. Does it seem like a logic board issue?
    Thank you for your time.

It sounds like a power supply problem, but run Disk Utility to check the drive:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
See what result that produces, and please check back,
