Sleep when still in use

I am running on a MAC Pro 4,1 2.66 GHz dual quad core with 8GB Ram, Mac OS X 10.7.3.
About once an hour my Mac goes to sleep while I am actively using it.  Once it goes to sleep I can wake it back up by clicking the mouse.  Today I was using Logmein to remote into my work and it went to sleep 3 times.  This also caused the logmein session to disconnect.  I check my power/sleep settings and everything looks normal (the same as they have always been).  I remote in a lot and normally use my MAC for many hours at a time and I have not had this happen until today.

  • My iMac will not sleep when not in use.

The screen will go dark, but the disk will not sleep when not being used.  I have restored defaults and set energy settings to do so and still no luck.  Any thoughts?  Was this part of a current update?  It just started to not sleep a few weeks ago.

Thanks for your help regarding my computers sleep disorder.  I wanted you to know that after many hours of searching, I found that I had downloaded a program called Growl with my Belkin router when I installed it.  I removed this Growl program and finally my computer will sleep on it's own.  I wanted to give you this info just in case you come across this problem again.
    Thanks again!

  • How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation?

How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation? I do not want to go to the projector just to turn it off and turn on again after a while? Is there a keyboard shortcut for that?

I want to be able to sleep the external display and at the same time do things in the MacBook.( This feature is useful for me so that I can prepare some things and so that my audience will not see what I am about to show them.)
Is there a feature for Mountain Lion?

  • Configure drives to sleep when not in use

I’ve been running my NMH300 with two Seagate 1.5TB drives for about a week and it seems the drives keep spinning 24/7.   Is there a way to configure the hub to put the drives to sleep when not reading/writing?  The drives are very hot all the time and I’m afraid they will burn out prematurely.

Heat is my problem too. I don't like the mediahub is treating my HD.
In my PCs all HDs are in front of fan/fans while in the MH there is a thermostat.
That's why i will not set it up as Raid 1, putting your eggs in one basket.
My data is more important than the MH.
    My solution.
    1. I tape 3.5"x3.5" PC fan at the back right on top of the interior fan
    using double sided foam.
    2. Seal the gap between the fan and MH with tape.
    3. Cut the fan cord and connect a 12v DC adaptor.
That's it. My HDs are running cool now.
The interior fan does not turn when the exterior fan is on
which is alright, it's a certain back up just in case the exterior fails
then the interior will kick in "when it reaches a certain temperature"
I got 2-1TB WD Black Caviar which generates a lot of heat.
It's all about the data. By the way Linksys does make HD that is why
they don't know how to protect one.

  • How to have time capsule sleep when not in use

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use? it runs constantly and gets warm. I need to find out how to make it idle and wake up when my Mac calls for a backup. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how to do it? I have the time capsule connected to a router off of a cable modem. Thanks to all

Is there any way to have my time capsule sleep (stop spinning ) when not in use?
Does the disk spin up and down continually? Or is it just spinning non-stop?
What model is the TC? Please give the A1xxx model from the rubber base mat.. and size of the hard disk.
Did you update to the latest firmware? When did the problem start, ie did it correspond with firmware update?
Have you played with it.. replaced the drive etc? If this is stock standard it should spin down almost immediately disk access finishes.

  • Is it possible to let the TS-HD go sleep when not in use

is it possible to let the Time Capsule HD go idle when not in use for saving energy?

If the Time Capsule is functioning normally, the hard drive will spin up automatically when a Time Machine backup begins and spin down after the backup is completed.
My Time Capsule normally runs for a minute or two for the backup each hour....otherwise the drive is not active.

The HP Photosmart Energy Save Mode reduces energy use by entering a sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity.
The time to sleep mode can be extended to 10 or 15 minutes.
NOTE: This feature is on by default and cannot be turned off.
    To set Energy Save Mode
    1. Touch the Setup icon.
    2. Touch Preferences.
    3. Scroll through the options and touch Energy Save Mode.
    4. Touch the desired time interval (5, 10 or 15 minutes).

  • My iMac will not go to sleep when I press the rear power button.

It will, however, if I press sleep in the apple menu using the mouse. This has recently started since I upgraded the memory and ran disk doctor. I know the rear button is not broken as it feels fine and powers up the computer when switched off.
I have researched this and cannot see an answer for specific problem.  Any help appreciated!

First I would personally get rid of Disk Doctor, Apple has made every effort to fight Malware, Spyware.  First and Formost Viruses do not affect Mac's however if you have Windows installed that could change but I would come on here and check the users and what they use.
If you simply walk away from your Mac it will automaticly go to sleep and a simple click of your mouse will wake it up.
    Cheers

Most users leave there computers on 24=7 They go to sleep on there own and you can set when the computer goes to sleep when not in use.

  • How to make a external HD (FireWire or USB) spin down when no in use?

I have a MM and want to make sure that the external HD spins down if not being used.
Would this automatically happen if I tick the box 'Put HD to sleep when not in use' in the control panel? Or is there an other solution to make sure it does so? I have not bought a disk as of now, but would be looking at a 2.5 (Samsung HM500LI 500 GB (SpinPoint M6)) in a FireWire housing.
    Thanks

I really have no idea because I never sleep disks. However, that's controlled by the setting in the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. The default is ten minutes if you sleep disks. Experiment with various settings by issuing this command in the Terminal.app, until you get it the way you want it:
    *sudo pmset -a disksleep XX*
where XX is the new time in minutes.

  • Imac goes to sleep when downloading and errors occur

I have a Imac and whenever i download largish programs from  the appstore which take a little while to download, the Imac goes into sleep mode and when i restart the imac, the download has stopped and says an error has occurred. I then have to restart it and resign in with my apple id and it start again.
This isn't a massive issue on programmes which take up to 30  inutes but larger programs which take a few hours to download (I am in a area with relatively low broadband speed) I cant leave it to download and go and do somehting else or leave it over night.
Does anyone know how to turn off the auto-sleep mode and leave it on conctantly until turned off ?
    Thanks

Applications > System Preferences > Energy Saver
    set computer sleep to never
    set display sleep to never
uncheck put hard disks to sleep when possible.

  • Computer does not put itself to sleep when used in lid-closed mode

Hi. I'm having a small problem when using my macbook pro with the LED display, lid closed and with external keyboard and mouse. If I leave the computer unattended, the display goes to sleep at the time specified in system settings under energy saver. The computer, however, does not go to sleep - the white power indicator remains solid and noises for new email etc can still be heard.
I should probably just try to remember to put it to sleep manually but I keep forgetting. Does anybody know what settings I need to adjust?

I tried cycling the old battery many times, and the computer would still shut down unexpectedly instead of going to sleep when it ran out of power. I got a free replacement from the supplier [http://myworld.ebay.com/cbkusaelectronics>, but I have cycled this new battery twice now, and it still does not go to sleep when it runs out of power. The capacity of the battery is fine (4.9 Ah), and the timing calibration seems fine as well. I have two older batteries from NewerTech and they allow sleep every time, so I think my computer is fine. Can anyone enlighten me about the cause of this problem? Does my battery lack some 'sleep battery' cell in it for use after the other 4 cells discharge? Or does my battery lack a chip that communicates with the computer? Is there any hope of getting this battery to support sleep when discharged?
Has anyone else seen this problem consistently in a brand of battery? Does anyone have a recommendation for a cheaper battery that does not exhibit this problem? I have been happy with NewerTech, but they cost over $130.
(I only paid $44 plus $10 shipping, so I probably got what I paid for. It is maybe still worth it to have a high capacity battery for such a low cost, but I can't rely upon it in those last few minutes or I may lose work.)

  • My Macbook Pro (5,3) sporadically goes to sleep when the lid is open and in use.

My Macbook Pro (5,3) sporadically goes to sleep when the lid is open and I am actively using it.  This problem happens both with OS X 10.7.2 and Windows 7 (64bit), so I don't think it's an OS issue.  Has anyone else encountered this? It's still covered under apple care... But I'd rather try to fix it myself before having to bring it in.
    Thanks!

I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case - it does get hot.  However, this happens even when I first open it after having it in sleep mode for an entire night...  Do you know how to run the diag tool with OS X 10.7?

  • Macbook unable to 'hybernate' when still using on 0% battery

When I normally use my Macbook up till the moment it shuts down, nothing seems to be saved. I hear 2 gongs after booting with power and it boots up with nothing in it's memory of the previous session.
The Macbook is able to hybernate if I go into sleep on 1% or so..
Someone any clue why, little bug in the software that thinks it still has enough power or so but hasn't?
Has done this since day 1... but I thought it would go away if it just got to know the battery better. (It's already a replacement mac for a A-gen...)
