Sleepimage" file in HD... what is it?
Hello,
I running CleanApp to check the drive usage, it found a file named "sleepimage" 4 Gigs exactly in size. the path is HD/private/var/vm . no extension.
Would any one happen to know what this is?
Running OS-X 10.5.7 all up to date

Can I delete the "sleepimage" file?
When using Carbon Copy Cloner to back-up my MBP it fails to complete the backup & informs me that there is a problem with the "sleepimage" (
/Previous Systems.localized/2008-12-15_1026/private/var/vm/sleepimage).
It then says, "This file is sitting on a bad section of hard disk media and is unrecoverable. Delete this file (i.e. in the Finder) and restore it from a known good backup, then try the backup task again."
What should I do to rectify this problem!

ThanksPost here from the always formidable jsd2 that explains that CCC when copying incrementally excludes the sleepimage file. Unless, maybe that's been changed now in CCC?

I am suddenly unable to open my pictures in Adobe Photoshop. It gives the following message: The document “Tina-19.jpg” could not be opened. Photoshop cannot open files in the “Adobe Photoshop JPEG file” format.

That is usually caused by Firefox not unpacking the extension.
You can try to set the Boolean pref <b>extensions.alwaysUnpack</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. However it converts all my pdf files to Photoshop Elements 10 so I can not email them because no one can read them they are not pdf files anymore. What do I do?
Nothing has been converted. You first need to convince yourself of this.
Start Adobe Reader (or Adobe Acrobat, if you have it). Use Open from the File menu. Pick one of your PDF files. Does it open OK? If not, what happens?

I recently received new laptop loaded with with Acrobat 10 and it does not work the same. I typically scan 8-10 pages of receipts, combine the files in Acrobat, and then optimize to reduce the size so I can upload with my expense report. Typically, my files were reduced to 200-400 KB. I have a 2 MB file that will not reduce at all.
Bernd, thank you for your attempt to help but the option dialog windows do not contain the same options. There are numerous other posts on this forum about this issue and there is no answer. Clearly, there is an issue. I have submitted this issue to our internal help desk.

How do you add a directory to a manifest.mf file in a JAR file, andf in what order.
I know how to set a classs files and file class's & Main Class's not a problem, but how about a directory/folder.
The Directory/folder contains class's. My prog can run the class's from a Jlist, as long as I set the classpath directly by control panel user varaibles manully or by a Bat file running in the back ground.

Maybe Wrapper, and not the type that turn decks, and look at very low cameras while singing.If I open Font Book, and choose named font, I can see a list of symbols, e.g.
If I open Character Viewer, and switch to Pictographs, I can see something like this
so I assume that named font includes chars in the category Pictographs, which you can use at ease, I hope.
If you need them frequently, you may create your custom keyboard layout, if you wish this, come back with what you wish.
Screenshots are in Lion, but the procedure is the same, I hope. -
Why do I have 17.8GB sleepimage file?
Recently I have used Disk Inventory X to get a rid off some of my old files. The thing is that I was shocked when I found a sleepimage folder with 17.8GB sleepimage files. Why does my MB Air collecting that much of data? Usually it has to be about 2-3 GB.
There is only one sleep image file. It is by necessity slightly bigger than the amount of RAM that you have.
The other files are swap files. You must be running some big applicatoons to have that much swap file space in use on a machine that has 8 GB of RAM. -

Thx.I'm pretty certain that it gets deleted as well. If you try and open that mobile documents folder, it takes you to the iCloud drive folder. I've been searching for this same issue for the last 24 hours also as I inadvertently deleted my Keynote files stored on iCloud drive thinking I was just temporarily deleting Keynote from my iPad when upgrading to the latest iOS 8 version. (I needed space and thought, "Oh, I'll just reinstall later... Turns out I was in the iCloud storage area, not in my iPad storage area at the time and therefore deleted all my iCloud stored presentations. From every device.)

Since the new Photo download, I can't import photos from my Kodak C813. I get an "unreadable file" message. What to do?
See if Image Capture will let you upload the photos from the camera to a folder on the Desktop. If it will then check the photos by opening them up with Preview to make sure all of them are good. Then import the folder into Photos.
If that goes OK reformat the memory card in the camera, take some test shots and see if Photo will import. -
I have lightroom 4 and have recently bought a canon rebel t5. I cannot get lightroom top open the cr2 (raw) files no matter what I do. Please help!!!
You need to upgrade your version of Lightroom to version 5.4 or newer.

Maybe you are doing nothing wrong and the problem is with the disk.
Use SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner
to clone your system to an external drive.
Then boot from your DVD go to Disk Utility and choose your entire drive > top icon in DIsk Utility.
Go to Erase tab. Choose format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click on erase. Now, install Lion and when you get to setup assistant choose to migrate from your external drive.
This is slightly different than baltwo described and slighly longer but if there is any corruption on your disk a more through way to go, IMO.
What baltwo is saying is to clone your volume over to an external hard drive with CCC reformat and clone it back. This will defragment the files and make them all contiguous but will not address any directory problems.
Your choice. You can do it one way, then the other if it doesn't work out for you. -

You cannot; it's intentionally disabled to guard against accidental file loss. If you press Option when pasting the files, they'll be moved instead of copied.

I cant seem to restore my iPhone it. I try to reboot it and it goes to a connect to iTunes screen. I connect the phone to the computer and when I click restore in iTunes, the phone turns off in he middle of the file extraction. What do I do now?
Restore as a NEW device. Don't use backup at all. Your backup may have corrupt data causing the issue.
