Sleeping screens sms notfictions

i love th new sleeping screens but wanted to know does anyone have a way to disable notifications such as text messages coming onto the sleeping screens.?

Currently there is no way, always thought notifications was a useful feature with sleeping screen and animations are nice to see.

Problem: Daily Edition PRS-950 2 months old. Yesterday afternoon, I slid the power button to exit sleep mode and a portion of the display screen was obscured. It looked as if a small part of the sleep screen was failing to refresh: at the bottom of the screen, there is an opaque rectangle about 1 1/2 X 2 inches. The right-hand edge of the rectangle is on a slant of about 35 degrees. There looks to be another angled side a bit further to the right, but I can't tell what is on that tiny slice. It shows about ten tiny vertical lines which remind me of a test page from a printer that's out of toner. I've reset the reader and I'm out of ideas.

I'm replying to my own message with a note about customer service for my broken Daily Edition (my $299 paperweight/boat anchor). After getting nowhere online I called the Daily Edition support folks (in India? not an American accent, for certain) and after going thru their troubleshooting process with no change to the screen issue, I was told that, since my Daily Edition was older than 30 days I qualified for a refurbished unit. Try as I might, the 30 day qualification is nowhere to be found in my copy of the product warranty. The two levels of care for my Daily Edition end at 90 days and 1 year. I insisted on getting a new reader and my issue was escalated up the chain (according to the CS rep I spoke to, there being no way to check on that) and not only was I told that the 30-day limit had been passed, but I had to give them my credit card before they'd ship me a refurbished unit. I've owned Sonys all my life and this is a new low in customer service. Nothing I can do, I suppose, except act disappointed and accept what they offer.

N8 - Nokia Sleeping Screen / Situations

I am interested in trying out Nokia Sleeping Screens available from the Beta Lab.
However, I already use Nokia Situations and I am very impressed with it, especially it's ability to switch profiles at certain times (eg, switching to my Night Time profile from 11pm until 8.00am)
How would Sleeping Screens work with Situations, or are they 2 completely different applications?

I think that I was under the impression that Sleeping Screen was more than just a screen saver and I was thinking that some of the features were similar to Situations.

After updating to 10.4.4 p/w not required waking from sleep/screen saver

I have this checked on in the Security Pref. panel, but the password dialog is not displayed. The computer just wakes from sleep/screen saver without requiring my p/w. Anyone else?

The important thing for the future imho, is to always Repair Permissions before & after any update... seems to ward off most of these problems. Of course that is only good if the disk is Verified once in awhile.
Using Disk Utility in Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later to verify or repair disks...

In fact I'd start with those 2 now, if that doesn't help you may need to reapply some updates by getting them directly from apple>downloads.

Sleeping screen freom beta lab

hey.
i installl nokia sleeping screen on my n8 and it work fine.but after the update nokia screen new version, when i install new version with add ur image,it does not work ...mean that when i select the screen saver opetion then other select opetion does not show.......i try and try again but of no avail....what i do...

Try deleting and re-installing the app, there could be conflict between the two builds ?

why is Sleeping Screen not supported in nokia 500 belle? I downloaded on my 500, but not running properly. display is only shown for a second while unlocking. is it due to hardware restriction?

Or u downloaded the same from a third-party website ??
Just For your knoledge, NSS is not a compatible app with your phone,
It only works Smoothly with Nokia N8-00 & C7
& with some other models after sum MODS.

I have done this for several Titles, using Photoshop and a Layer Mask, that gets "erased," revealing the letters. My Titles were of "handwriting with chalk" on a blackboard, so I could keep the edge of that Layer Mask, looking more like the "chalk." Photoshop also makes it easy to output Layer Comps for each "step" in the handwriting process. IIRC, I did about 5 Frames per Layer Comp on Import, but do not recall if I used an extremely short Cross-Dissolve Transition between those - I intened to do so, but just do not remember if I liked that, or went with just the Still Images? Will try to find that animation, and maybe create a full tutorial of the process. In my case, I also added an SFX of chalk on a chalkboard.
If you have Photoshop, it's really quite easy to pull off.
Now, I do not know if Photoshop Elements has Layer Masks yet, which make it so very easy to accomplish. One could do it backward, where the Text Layer gets Erased, and then one would have their full Image as the last in the sequence, and then the next would have a little bit of the Text removed, then a bit more, then a bit more - going backward, until the "writing surface" is clean. One could also do this with a Transparent Background, so that one saw the Video below, and no actual "writing surface" visible.

N8 - Sleeping screen won't work after upgrading to...

I upgraded to Belle last night on my N8. It went smoothly but a lot of my apps disappeared, including Nokia sleeping screen. (which is the one I'm most missing so far)
I re-installed the latest version of sleeping screen from the Nokia Store, but when I go into screensavers to try to activate it, all that happens when I cllick on if, is the loading animation pops up for 1/10 of a second, and then nothing, the seletion tick statys next to the previouos screensaver. If I long tap it to get the popup window, nothing happens when I select settings, and when I select preview I just get a blank screen.
Is there anything I can do to try and fix this? I'm not completely averse to doing a full factory reset, but for obvious reasons would rather leave that as an option of last resort. I've already tried the old switching off and on routine... and un-installed re-installed etc.
any help greatly appreciated! :-)

FYI,
I have tried the same routines ( remove & reload & reinstall & even that "wait until double vibrations" start ) AND that did not change my prob:
- the app is loaded and shows in list of installed apps when checking from installations menu BUT
- the app is not listed in applications ( and thus cannot be started at all );
IMHO: returning to factory setup is really NOT a solution if you have already reinstalled and fine tuned everything else to your liking! ... just think about it logically: if EVERY ( or even every second ) app needed returning to a factory setup, nothing would really work.
Please DO NOT suggest this is solved - until a better solution is found I give up the app, which worked fine in same N8-00 & Anna.

Ipod Touch shows two dates and times on the sleep screen/locked screen

First off i have the new ipod touch and i got it this christmas.since a couple weeks ago on the sleep screen/locked screen(the screen that appears when you hit the button on top of ipod) it shows the current date and time but in the background of that time it also sais 7:12 January 6 2010. It has said that for about two weeks. Also i noticed that when you slide the unlock bar over you can still see the slider in the background at the original position. One last thing has been happening with the volume when listening to music. When i try to turn it up i slide the volume button to the right to make it louder and when i let got it just slides back and does not get louder. What is going on.

I had the same problem with double image of date and time and also the unlock arrow. I found out that the problem was that I had, without knowing it, taken a snapshot of my wallpaper screen and saved it back to my saved photos. When I used that wallpaper image again, there was the dual image of time and date. All I had to do was change wallpaper! Good luck!

Display won't go to sleep / screen saver won't turn on

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard instead of the screen saver activating or the screen going to sleep when inactive, the screen goes dark for about a second and then flashes back on. It's resulted in images being burned into my screen a couple of times now.
If I manually activate the screen saver then the screen saver stays active and after a minute the display goes to sleep. Also, if I'm using Front Row the screen will go to sleep without a problem. I've tried turning off all apps to test it if one of them is preventing it, and and it still happens.
Anyone else have this happening?

The screensaver preference file is stored in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.xxxxxxx.plist, where xxxxxxx is a UID for your machine. By moving this file out of the folder, your screensaver settings will be reset to the defaults.
The power settings are stored in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist.
If your new user does not have the problem, then the preference problem may be in your ~/Library/Preferences folder.

Sleep screen only

When using iPhoto stabilization feature it can takes hours to complete. For some reason the display does not go to sleep like it normally does when this is running. My question is - is there a way to simply turn off the display and leave the process running?

Have you tried setting a +hot corner+ for *sleep display* ?
You can do so from System Preferences +Desktop & Screen Saver+ pane. Click the +Hot Corners+ button. Set one of the corners to +Sleep Display+. When you want sleep the display, move your mouse to that corner and walk away.

Changing the sleep screen saver?

I'm guessing this is a stupid question, but I'm hoping I'm just missing something. Is there any way to change it so that when the backlight goes off and the screen goes to "sleep" that it doesn't goto the battery icon and clock? It doesn't make any sense to me. Occasionally I just want to look at what's playing and then I have to wake the display up again. I preferred the way my G5 would just dim the regular screen.

When waking from "sleep" screen turns grey under the pointer and the computer is effectively dead. Have to hold power 'off' for five seconds to regain computer.

When waking from "sleep" the screen appears normal but, the pointer leaves a trail of grey as it moves and the whole screen will turn grey if I keep moving the pointer. The computer is effectively dead. Have to shut down by using power off for six seconds and then re-starting. I know little about computers!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
