SLES disk space cleanup

Sorry if this is not the correct place to post but I have a question. I am running GW8 on SLES 10sp3, OES 2.02 sp2 in an ESX virtualized environment. I noticed I have thousands of binary files in the /tmp directory. They appear to be sequential in nature. The files with a hex name have a .000 extension, which appear to be Groupwise related, and then there are files that start with SSSxxxxxx, that I have not been able to determine the source. Are these safe to delete?

You say "GW8" but what specific version - any Support Packs and/or Hot
Patches?
I'm thinking TID 7011887 applies.

Is it possible cleanup data from a sccm tool??

if you have other drives with enough space, you can create no_sms_on_drive.SMS and place it on the root folder to avoid storing the packages.

  • Low disk space never recovered after cleanup

    Hi all,
We have a CPI 1.3 up and running but with this issue.
    Cisco Prime Network Control System
    Version : 1.3.0.20
    /dev/mapper/smosvg-optvol 200G  162G   28G  86% /opt
I followed the procedure on cleaning up databases and files but It didn´t work. After doing that we started to get databases error on some navigation features.
    Steps I followed
    1.- Remove HA
    2.- ncs stop
    3.- ncs cleanup
4.- ncs start --> after that we started with other database´s errors.
once this I followed with a ncs reinitdb
    1.- ncs stop
    2.- ncs reinitdb
    3.- ncs start
So, we are still having the same issue. 86% disk used, how we supose to cleanup the disk?
    ade # pwd
    /opt
    ade # du -sh oracle/
    128G    oracle/
    Any idea?

This is not due to a virus, or any other kind of malware.

  • How to free up disk space on drive C

We have been running Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials Sp1 for a number of years now without any apparent problems. We have noticed over this period, the free space on the 'C' drive diminishing over time. We are now at a point where housekeeping
needs to be undertaken to prevent disk space issues occurring in the future.
    1) Is there an in-built utility that would identify what applications or directories are using the most space? If not, are you aware of a utility that could offer this functionality i.e. Treesize. Does Microsoft offer a utility?, maybe as part of Systernals?
    2) The 'C' drive is 60Gb in size (I believe this was the default size during the install). When the server was initially installed, it had 20Gb free space on drive 'C'. At the point of writing, free space is now 7Gb. All installed applications and user shares
are pointing to a second drive (D). I'm assuming that the increase in used space is caused by log files or windows updates.
    2) I've manually scoured the 'C' drive and noticed that folder 'C:\Windows\winsxs' is 10.6Gb in size. I believe this folder relates to Windows Updates. Are we able to carry out housekeeping on this folder? If so, please could you advise the correct way of achieving
this. The 'Disk Cleanup' utility only offers to clean up 1.2Gb which is not enough.
I hope someone can offer some assistance.

  • I keep getting a (false) notification from HP Support Assistant: low disk space on C drive?

Hi, this morning upon starting up my computer the magnifying glass was hovering over the HP Support Assistant icon and usually that means it is checking for updates etc... but I noticed it turned into a yellow exclamation mark so I clicked on it and opened up HP Support Assistant. The exclamation mark was now in the "updates and tune-ups" and said there were "recommended messages available." Upon clicking this the exclamation is now on the HP messages tab and upon clicking that I am taken to a notification that says: "Low Disk Space on Primary Drive C:" So I click on it to find out more information and it says that I am running out of free disk space on my C drive and that I need to perform a disk cleanup etc...
I went to My Computer to see just how in jeopardy I was in of running out of space on my C drive. To my amazement it stated that I still had 1.27 TB of 1.35 TB available and have only used 6% of my space...
I tried emptying my recycle bin, clearing my cache, doing an actual disk cleanup, and restarting to no avail, the magnifying glass comes back after restart and the notification returns telling me that I am low on disk space in the C drive...
I have come to the conclusion that this must be a false notification but I have no idea how to get rid of it...it isn't a huge issue as it doesn't impair my usage on the computer, however, it is kind of annoying to keep seeing this notification...
Is there any way to get rid of this notification?

  • HP Support Assistant indicates low disk space on primary station C:

    Hi,
My system is a HP Pavilion 500-130ed with Windows 8.1, 64 bits. I'm running version 7.4.45.4 of the HP Support Assistant, currently the most recent version according to same.
I get the message 'low disk space on primary station C:'  (my translation, in Dutch it literally says 'Weinig schijfruimte op primair station C:').
Now I know Windows is resource hungry, but I've 250 GB available on C:! What's happening and how can I make it disappear?
    Cheers,

  • The server is failing to download some updates. Event ID 10032 (ran out of disk space & extended volume, still got error)

On Friday, 9/17 @ 7 am, after deselecting Windows 2003 in products, I ran Server Cleanup Wizard (as well as sqlcmd -I -i"WsusDBMaintenance.sql" -S "np:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query"), and 0 bytes were freed which I thought
odd.   I then selected Windows Server 2012 R2 and Office 2013 since we're going to be using those.
After this, on 9/19 @ 7:30am, the server had the message:      Event 364 Content file download failed. Reason: There is not enough space on the disk.    Source File: /d/msdownload/update/software/secu/2014/04/coreservermui-it-it_ebb7e1e8d487b90ffd719f06122a3db947b3f949.cab
    Destination File: e:\WSUS\WsusContent\49\EBB7E1E8D487B90FFD719F06122A3DB947B3F949.cab.
At some time during the day on 9/19, our SAN admin increased the volume (all server's volumes are on a SAN) from the SAN end, and I extended it in Disk Mngmt on the WSUS server.   I went home for the weekend
I came back today (9/22), saw I had gotten the "the server is failing to download some updates. Event ID 10032"   on Saturday 9/20 @ 1:30am.   I checked the volume \WSUScontent is on (the volume we extended) and it has
17GB free. So I assume space should not still be an issue.
The same 10032 error had occurred on 9/19, at 1:30 pm, but I assume it was before my colleague and I bumped up the disk space.  But why it occurred again the next day I'm not sure.
However, since the 10032 error on 9/20 @ 1:30am, it has not reoccured, and no yellow or red event messages.  So possibly all is well now.  Could it have been that WSUS was being sluggish to recognize the increased disk space, even though Windows
    itself recognized it?

Thanks Lawrence, I went through the steps you instruct on (which I did not know about, so I greatly appreciate that!), and freed up over 30GB of space.
    Outstanding! :-)
But your steps don't really address deleting all (solely) 2003 updates.
Correct. First, because you cannot DELETE updates, unless they are expired or old revisions, and use the Server Cleanup Wizard to do that.
Second, because the article was about removing *unneeded* updates. It does not consider the scenario where a product category is being retired
When I go to my "2003" update view, sorting by Any Except Declined, and Status Any, I still see tons of 2003 ones, some solely for it, others that apply to 2003 and other OSs. I want to leave the latter, but delete the ones solely for
2003. Not just superseded ones, but ALL that are solely for 2003.
You cannot delete updates. You can DECLINE updates, if that's what you want to do.
So let's talk a minute about these updates that might be applicable to operating systems other than Windows Server 2003. Let's be practical about the other operating systems listed. If you look closely, I suspect you will discover that those "other
operating systems" are either Windows XP or Windows 2000, but nothing else. Do updates for Windows XP or Windows 2000 really matter to you? I suspect not.
The reason I highly suspect this is because the practice of building packages targeted at multiple operating systems was terminated when Windows Vista was released (actually I think it happened with the release of WSUS v3, but this is just a matter of trivia,
the relevant point is that it's not done anymore, and has not been done for many years).
Ergo, I know for a fact, that NONE of the updates applicable for Windows Server 2003, will be applicable for any newer operating system. Ergo, it probably doesn't matter at all, so just SelectAll -> Decline if that's what you want to do.

  • How can i clean up my disk space on my MacBook Pro

how can i clean up my disk space on my MacBook Pro something  like a disk cleanup on a pc?

Those things you did on your PC you need not worry about on your Mac. Most is done behind the scenes.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions About OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.)
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion or later.)
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner.
      2. Data Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. SyncTwoFolders
      6. Synk Pro
      7. Synk Standard
      8. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Always have a current backup before performing any system updates or upgrades.

  • Prime Infrastructure 1.4: Clear Disk Space

In order to reduce disk space usage on Prime Infrastructure I will reduce the System Data Retention period (for aggregate data) and "Background Data Collection Task" raw data  retention (for non-aggregate data).   If I now run  'ncs stop / ncs cleanup / ncs start, will this inmediately clear the disk space or does some other event clear the disk space?
    Thanks.

ncs cleanup should be able to retrieve some disk space.
You can check the details of how it works from this document here.

  • WSUS Server Database maintenance--WSUSCOntents Folder size is taking all the disk space (75GB)

    Hi ,
We have set up WSUS Server  3.2 on Windows server 2008 R2  and set the Disk size as 80 GB. The WSUSContents folder is taking away all the disk space and as a result WSUS Server stopped working.
    Details:
    1. There are no other languages selected other than English.
2.There are no Downstream servers configured.
3.Server cleanup wizard runs for 10 seconds and it shows the below report .
    4. Is there any script available to purge the WSUS database?
    India1947

The WSUSContents folder is taking away all the disk space and as a result WSUS Server stopped working.
You need to perform additional administration on the server other than just running the Server Cleanup Wizard. Running the wizard with no other administration will accomplish nothing of significance.
    Removing unneeded update approvals
Of course, running out of room on the disk drive may well have corrupted the database, at which point the only reliable means of recovery is to install a NEW instance of WSUS with a fresh database.

My computer knowledge is below average!!! My 'puter reads Error: low disk space HP(C. I have cleaned and defragmented several hundred times but to no enjoyment. I have also uninstalled whatever I believed to be unneccessary for me to be using on this 'puter. The memory available is reading 4% at the moment and I am feeling quite frustrated and at a loss. I am an elder novice and also had this problem.I did a disk clean and was amazed when it revealed 8.4gb of stuff in the recycle bin which i am always emptying via c cleaner. After running the cleanup and doing a defrag i ended up with 22.4gb of space.I ran c cleaner and was surprised that it found 18000kb still in the recycle bin.Non of this makes real sense to me but at least i have a lot more space.Hope it helps you.

  • Insufficient disk space on C:

I am getting a low disk space notice on C: Properties shows 901 GB used and less than 20 GB free. When I check installed programs and data files, they don't total anywhere near the 901 GB cited in Disk properties. I have tried deleting programs and files but it soon returns to the same amount used or close. Often, it will not let me delete files because they are in use, or I need Admin authorization.
I have run disk cleanup and defrag, virus check, but no solution. I have searched for temp* files and found some totaling over 900 MB, but can't delete them w/o Admin permission. What's up?

My guess is that volume Shadow copy is using the space of the hard drive. Please read the following document and perform the steps:

I've been running into problems on a few machines that I have installed e-Load on. When I start the stress test, I get into a few iterations and then suddenly, the test will stop running and I get the following message:
"Available disk space running low. Shutting down session."
    Questions:
1.) What space is it referring to? The local machine or where the scripts are stored?
I can't seem to figure it out. The machines have more than enough space where e-Load is installed, over 10 Gigs free.

  • Low Disk Space in WSUS

    Hello,
The size of content folder in my WSUS upstream Server is 170GB, i am installing updates in one language only and 46 products. its showing low disk space now. i used server cleaning wizard but it cleared only 2GB. I thing somthing is going wrong there. Help
me to come out from this problem.

Thanks for your reply and the link.  After my disk became filled to capacity by WSUS updates, I couldn't use WSUS's "Server Cleanup Wizard".  Then I found this thread and began to decline the superceded and 100% installed updates.  I
got thru maybe 200 updates.  Now I can't even decline any more updates without getting a screen that pops up saying Error: Database Error, asking to reset the node.  This is the same screen that I got when I tried to use the Server Cleanup Wizard.
    Any advice?
