SLI N660Ti-2GD5/OC with N660Ti PE 2GD5/OC

Hello
Am new to this whole graphics card thing, having just decided to get back into gaming after a 20 year break (left off with the original Nintendo - wow what a change!), and am looking to SLI the two subject cards.  I started off with the N660Ti-2GD5/OC and just purchased a N660Ti PE 2GD5/OC.
I had read that as long as both cards are the same chip/family, SLI isn't a problem.  However, since purchasing the PE card I've read that both should have the same clock speeds, which these two cards don't have.  The N660Ti-2GD5/OC is 941MHz Core (Boost Clock:1019.5MHz) where as the PE/OC is 1019MHz Core (Boost Clock:1097MHz).
I've never overclocked anything, but afterburner makes it look pretty simple.  Would my best strategy be to OC the N660Ti-2GD5/OC to the same level as the stock PE card, then tweak both up in parallel from there?  Can afterburner set both the base clock as well as the boost clock?
Will get the new card in the next couple of weeks, so at this point am looking for some advance info...
Thanks

Thanks guys.  I agree with the 680 opposed to the 660 sli.  In my home rig, which was my second build, that's exactly what I did thinking if I wanted to skip the 700 series, could simply sli the 680 at a later date.  For my first build (work location PC with 660ti), I wasn't really sure how the whole thing worked and just kind of learned as I went.  Am still planning on skipping the 700 series, so hopefully 660ti SLI will continue to do a good job, even with the newer games optimized for the new console generation.
GTX660 is a mid-range GPU.
In my opinion, if you want to skip the 700 series, you also need to get rid of those GTX660.
As you can see, 2x GTX670 in SLI are as good as a single GTX690 and close to 2x GTX680 in SLI.
If you cannot afford a GTX690, just buy 2x GTX670.
2x GTX670 in SLI is probably the best price/performances compromise.

  • 3 way SLI bridge connection works with only 2 GPU's

    NF980=G65 Mobo.
I've read at least one post here a while back about somebody having a problem with a jumpy or flashing screen when in SLI mode with 2 GPU's.  He stated that he tried using 2 ribbon connections & that fixed the problem.
Well, I'd like to report that I have 2 GTX 260 GPU's installed in SLI mode & they each have 2 ribbon connections.
This made me wonder if I can use the solid 3 way SLI bridge connection instead of only one ribbon.
Answer= Yes,, it works,, & it seems that I do have a faster transfer rate when I swap pages from one page to another.
Example. When I play my favorite online games I always use Ventrilo or Teamspeak2 VOIP applications to talk to my friends & team mates during game play. If I need to see who is on Ventrilo, I use the windows key to swap or change the screen back & forth from the game screen to the Ventrilo screen. I notice that the transfer rate or the time it takes to change screens is almost instant using the 3 way SLI bridge with my 2 duel ribbon connection GTX 260's. Try it if you have GPU's like this. You'll see.  Happy gaming

    Thanks for reporting your findings.

  • New P7N SLI Platinum Boot Issue with PS/2 Keyboard [Solved but RAID problem now]

This issue taken me back !!!! Never thought I might face issue with a PS/2 Keyboard.
Here it is.. I just assembled my new system...
    P7N SLI Platinum Motherboard
    E8400 CPU
EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT Video Card
    Creative Soundblaster Audio Card
So, before I boot, I connected good old PS/2 Keyboard. The POST Screen comes up that says Press DEL to enter BIOS Setup... but then, it reboots.. indefinitely... I have no idea why it does that. However, if I boot the PC with no PS/2 Keyboard connected, POST screen comes up and that's it.. (no reboot). So, you see, I cannot proceed further in anyway.... I cannot go beyond POST without a keyboard, but then with the keyboard it reboots indefinitely... kinda catch 22 situation
Any suggestion / ideas that anyone can offer here???

Hello Folks... it took long time to "solve the issue that had to begin with"....
I purchased a cheapo Celeron processor to get into  the BIOS and update it... but it didn't even work... I couldn't boot at all. So, I called MSI and they asked me to RMA it. They replaced my MOBO with the latest BIOS - which was good news
So, now, I'm able to boot  - good news...
Now, this is an upgrade for me.... from my previous MOBO. My boot drive was RAIDed (RAID 0). So, now, I will have to RAID my drives again and run Win XP repair. I was able to RAID my drives and all good... now, I went into Windows installation and did F6 to install NVIDIA Raid.... but, here is my problem, when the prompt asks me to input the floppy drive, and when I did it.... it re-prompts me to put the floppy drive again... I see that the floppy drive is read... but, for some reason it doesn't detect the files in there properly....  I downloaded nVidia C72+MCP55 SATA RAID / AHCI Driver (For floppy driver) for windows xp 32-bit and copied the sataraid folder contents into the floppy. Now, here I am stuck again....
    Anybody experienced this problem?

I install windows XP SP2 with RAID0 (strip 4 SATA HD). After installed windows show error this message.
"Raid service U.S. english resourced has incountered a problem and need to close". How can I do that?.
    My computer SPEC:

    HD SATA 80 GB x 4 (RAID0)

Dude, I've read a few forums on various branded nForce motherboards and many people, including myself, have had issues with the nvRAID. I personally had a RAID-0 setup on an EVGA NF41 SLi motherboard and it was EXTREMELY unstable. This was the reason I chose to go with the K8N Diamond Plus since it has a Silicon Image SATA RAID chipset.  If you don't need RAID, don't set it up. If you do need it, then go with a separate RAID card solution. Good luck.

There is high chance that your system will not work with a 45nm processor when the number on that sticker is 02.
:(, indeed.  That's disappointing.  I currently have an e6600 at stock speeds, and it may be the source of some slowness in games.
I guess I only have two questions:
    1) What's the fastest CPU that will work on my board?
    2) Is there an overclocking process thread that you'd recommend for this board + an e6600?  (I know that there are tons of OC'ing threads out there, but I thought that maybe I'd get better insight from an MSI forum)
    Thanks for your quick replies!

  • P7N SLI Platinum - No power with the 8-Pin connector

Been running the system since 03/2008  ...  Around 6-8 months ago, I had a problem where the PC wouldn't power on anymore, and I replaced the power supply with a new Corsair 650W PSU.
PC has been used every day, no issues.
Today (a few hours ago) the system just shut down.  When I try to power the system on again, none of the fans spin up...  They start for a fraction of a second (like 1/10th of a spin) but everything stops.  The red light on the motherboard stays on.  After turning off the power supply and turning it back on, everything will try to turn on again for a fraction of a second, then nothing.
I thought maybe it was a power supply issue again, so looking at the Corsair website, they suggest testing the power supply by using a paperclip to connect the green with a black wire and when I did that, the fan in the power supply runs.  I disconnected power to EVERYTHING (case fans, disks, DVD drives, video card) except the 24 pin and 8 pin motherboard connectors.   Still won't power up.
I started searching for other people with similar issues and found a few cases of the exact same problem (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=132509.0;prev_next=next).  Reading what they did, I turned off the power supply, unplugged the 8-pin connector from the motherboard, and turned the system back on.  Now the motherboard powers up fine!  CPU fan starts spinning and everything.  Except the processor isn't going to work without that 8-pin power connector, right?
So is this a motherboard problem?  Any suggestions on how I get this fixed?

Yes, around 6-8 months ago, the old power supply stopped working.  Smelled like an electronic fire or something in the room...  So I was sure that was the problem.
I tried plugging the power supply in to my second computer, and it didn't work there either.  So the power supply burned up or something.  I replaced it with this new Corsair...
Unfortunatly, my second computer is an AMD, or I could check the CPU to see if it would work.  I could try the power supply from the 2nd machine to make sure it's not the Corsair power supply, I guess.  But if we can't limit it to motherboard without testing the CPU, then I'm probably out of luck.

  • K9N SLI-F V2 problem with 1TB HD in bios

    Hello all.
I am to build a new system.  All parts are new just purchased over the net.
    MB part# 601-7390-010B0806405072 with AMD 6000+ CPU
    HD is Samsung HD103UJ
on POST it read A7390NMS Bio version 1.1
On the Bios it sees the Samsung HD but only as 8GB in size.
I checked the MSI website for bios update and for this MB 1.1 is the current version.
Tried different SATA cable, power cable and different SATA slots
Called MSI tech support in USA and was told MSI only tested SATA drives up to 500GB.  But he said there should be no reason why it wouldn't work with 1TB.
I only have this one HD right now, so I can't even install Window XP.
Any suggestions or should I just go return the 1TB HD and get a 500GB version?

Quote from: debpie on 08-December-08, 04:19:28
There is only 1 set of jumper on that Samsung HD and it used for setting master or slave for PATA
Right, but this is SATA drive, not PATA.  Samsung isn't going to 'accidentally' put Master/Slave jumpers on a SATA drive.
Hard drives attached via USB mass storage controller specification do not depend on BIOS INT13 geometry translation support, except when booting from the USB storage drive or accessing it in a non-USB aware environment (e.g. DOS).  In USB-aware environment (e.g. any modern OS), drive capacity support is handled entirely by the embedded USB-ATA/ATAPI bridge controller and firmware located in the USB enclosure.  Ergo, nothing can be inferred about the MSI BIOS from the drive's behavior in an external USB enclosure, unless you attempted to boot from it or access it in DOS.
The drive's behavior in an external USB enclosure could suggest one of three possible things:
    - the drive is defective
    - the drive has buggy firmware
    - the embedded controller or firmware in the external USB enclosure has some problem with drives this large
However, since the drive is acting up in BOTH scenarios, it points to the drive as the problem.  Samsung drives are developing a reputation for having buggy firmware, particularly models over 750GB, which lends additional support to the drive as the most likely suspect.  Test the drive by connecting it to another SATA controller, not USB or Firewire.  Samsung's ES-Tool Utility may also be useful here:

  • GTX 770 MSI N760 TF Gaming 2GD5/OC Always 50 Degrees?

I'm not sure what's going on here. I upgraded from Tri SLI GTX 470 cards with reference coolers to the MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC. My old video cards would always come near 85-90 degrees when overclocked. But this new MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC never gets any hotter than 50 degree even with Boost and a small user overclock. I'm worried something might be wrong here. But if not, why would you make a video card with all that cooling power and not allow higher voltage that +12? It seems like a waste. I feel like I should have just bought the GTX 760 Hawk. At least that one has unlocked voltage for  higher overclocks. There's a huge $110 difference between these two cards.
Do you think maybe one of the 8-pin power connectors is not working? It just doesn't make sense at all to do something like that. Do you think it might have something to do with my ASUS Hero motherboard? That thing sometimes acts retarded with USBs, so maybe it's reporting false temps?

read about nvidia greenlight its NVIDIA that restricts how much voltage can be used or they void the GPU warranty on the core.
older cards had unlocked voltages but not now (some users where applying more voltage then the chip could safely use and it was Vaporising the silicon on the chip killing them over time and they started it with the Nvidia 6xx series cards so its been around for a while as users where overvolting them and causing overvoltage damage to the GPU so they locked it down or no manufacturer cover for the GPU from nvidia if they did not)
with the hawk models they allow you to overvolt them more but pass the lost cover (as no Greenlight) for the GPU onto the end user!
Crap ya I did screw that title up. Like I said, you can't go back and re-edit a post after so many minutes have past.
Anyways, I have the GTX 770. The thing never goes above 50 degrees Celsius. That's extremely cool I know. Every single video card or CPU I've had I've been able to red line to the max temp though, regardless if my voltage is locked or not. There's always seems to be some kind of point you can reach and the damn thing just shuts down. This card is beyond bizarre. Is it possible that I will never ever see 85 degree on this card? If that's the case, why make a video card like this and not even sniff it's critical point? Am I to guess that's what the 780 or Titan would be then?
I've seen nothing online to help me determine if I'm better off getting the GTX 760 Hawk over this GTX 770 Gaming one. My understanding is that the only advantage is maybe a +13 voltage increase and +185% Power Limit over the GTX 770's +12 voltage and 111% Power Limit. I have Svet's Fermi/Kepler VBIOS Tuner, so getting the +185 Power Limit on the GTX 770 Gaming is not a problem. So the GTX 770 Gaming has some room to overclock. I mean the ASUS Maximus VI motherboards and Haswell CPUs were overclocked at like 7GHz and the damn things weren't even released yet, lol. Where are those results for the Hawk and Gaming?
I was also hoping someone might know the difference in the potential of the 760 Hawk and 770 Gaming. I've seen overclocked reviews for the 760 Hawk, but none that talk about the unlocked potential. I know the 760 Hawk can sniff the GTX 770 in performance, but that's using stock overclocking methods. I would like to know if anyone has been able to successfully overclock the 760 Hawk past an overclocked GTX 770.

well unfortunately i have a 20 pin power supply but i took the 20pin to 24pin device Doesn't it work correctly?
The 24 pin spec requires the -5v pin to have no connection. If you use a 20 to 24 pin adapter lead the -5v pins are not connected. You can try plugging the 20 pin plug into the 24 pin socket offset to one side. Many report having no problesm doing this. Alternatively you can try adding you own lead to the adapter to connect the -5v pins.

  • NF980-G35 No Video With SLI?

    Hello,
As this is my first time posting please forgive my profile of any inadequacies that you should find.  I have just purchased my first MSI board, a NF980-G65.  Along with the board I purchased 2x4GB of gskill memory and an AMD 955 BE C3.  I have had quite some trouble setting up this board and getting it run correctly which I hope is mostly my ignorance.
A little background is due.  The first boot was with no video and assuming it was the card I swapped the cards and slots with no luck.  Finally after removing the cards I was able to get a post from the on-board video.  After this I changed some basic BIOS settings so that it was more to my liking (full screen logo-off, date and time, etc.) so no major changes.  The board then posted fine and I attempted to load windows 7.  In the first setup screen while setup was loading drivers the installation would fail.  I tried multiple things including turning quick boot off in the bios.  Finally I tried the memory test and then each stick in each slot.  Alas, one bad stick.  So now I am using just one stick of the Gskill PC-12800 (clocked at 666MHz).  After loading windows 7 on one good stick I attempted to remedy my SLI problem.  Again, with changing slots no luck.
The problem:  while trying to use SLI I am unable to get any video.
I am able to get into BIOS, although with no video (using f10 and enter and the system reboots).  I have tried both cards I have in any combination allowed on the board but to no avail yet both cards work by themselves.  This is also with or without the SLI bridge and with the on-board video disabled.  I understand that I have two cards, 9800GTX+’s, different brands yet my previous board,  a Gigabyte M570SLI, worked wonderfully.   So please any information you can provide or a possible remedy would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for your details

I just wanted to let you know I was by no means trying to be rude in the previous post so my apologies if it came off that way, i was just looking for clarification.  I would just ask you to go back and read those post again to see if you can get the desired information out of them which I have listed.  If you are unable let me try to break it down for you.  Also when I ask you to clarify VGA i ask because there are 5 ways that the MSI nf980-g65 can provide video so please let me know if you mean GPU.
SETUP ONE:  Using One Stick of Memory Located in DIMM1 and the GPU located in PCI_E2 (WHICH IS THE FIRST PCIE x16 SLOT) I am able to boot, access bios and load windows.
SETUP TWO:  Using one stick of Memory Located in DIMM1 and the GPU1 located in PCI_E2 and GPU2 in SLOT PCI_E4 (The Second PCIE SLOT) I am unable to boot but I am able to load windows
SETUP Three:  Using one stick of Memory located in DIMM 2,3,or4 and the GPU1 located in PCI_E2 and GPU2 in slot PCI_E4 I am unable to get video, which i am unable to get video for bios and for windows, yet the computer will boot into both of these.
These three setups are both tested on a 22" Wide-screen monitor and a 32" LCD TV with the resolution for windows set at 1024x768.  The DVI out is connected to the top connector of the GPU1.
So the only thing that I have posted differently is that by moving the memory into different DIMM slots I am able to change the outcome of my boots.  SLI being enabled has no affect on either of these outcomes for the main problem now is that I am unable to access bios when I have two GPU's installed (SEE SETUP 2) yet I am able to access windows.  From there I am able to enable SLI.
Seeing that the memory is the only thing that seems to cause any change other than the GPU's I am starting to believe that the motherboard is faulty since I have tested everything else but I will wait until I can get a hold of some more DDR3 to test with.
Let me break it down for you Svet:
"Can you boot the computer with both VGA's installed?"  YES
"If no can you boot the computer with each one VGA alone?"  YES
"Have you connected both power cables to the each VGA's?" YES
"Which one PCI-E slots you use for them?"  PCI_E2 which is the first x16 PCIE slot.  GPU2 in the PCI_E4 or the second x16 slot.  For clarification see the manual for the board.
"When you use both of them, did you connect the monitor to the 1st one?"  Yes and I have tried all of the DVI out ports just to see if bios would display on any of them.  The standard output I use is the DVI on the top of card1.
"Have you installed the SLI bridge between them?"  Yes and I have tried different bridges and I have tried without the bridge  Same result not matter what I do on this question.
"Have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed too?  Would be the one thing I have not done.  I have flashed the bios which technically would have the same effect on the CMOS but I will try clearing the CMOS after this post.
    Thanks.

By VGA i mean the video card.
Which looks to be the same when you call it "GPU". [The GPU is only the graphics processor chip used in the video card]
So calling the video card with GPU name is not correct.

"Have you done >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed too?  Would be the one thing I have not done.  I have flashed the bios which technically would have the same effect on the CMOS but I will try clearing the CMOS after this post.
    OK, yes do this.
Have you tried to connect monitor to onbord VGA, when both GPU's are installed?
Have you disabled onboard VGA before try to install both video cards?
How Hybrid SLI Support is configured in BIOS?

I understand that I have two cards, 9800GTX+’s, different brands yet my previous board,  a Gigabyte M570SLI, worked wonderfully.
Did you use the same PSU there too?

  • K8N SLI Platinum with SLI + X-Fi + TV tuner card

has anyone have the above mentioned working?
currently have 1 X 7800gt and a digital tv card. im thinking of getting an x-fi card + another 7800gt
it was a bitch to get the tv card working due to the silicon controller conflict. i can imagine how much bandwidth the x-fi and tv card would consume
so anyone has those combination working, i would really like to know
    thanks

I can't tell you exactly what you are looking for, but for what you want to do, an SLI board is not the recommended setup.
And you've pretty much illustrated what I've been saying for some time.
That is why I have what I have in my signature, and the board sitting in a box on my shelf is a K8N Neo4 Platinum.
There may be more Tv cards based on the PCI-e hitting the market in the future. But an SLI setup in conjuction with a nice PCI sound card, and a PCI Tv Tuner is going to be a pretty good challenge. It may work, but you may experience flaky behavior.
If you do get this working, then let me know...

  • SLI issue with N660Ti-2GD5/OC (new bios request)

    Hi,
It started all with issue regarding SLI performance under F1 2012 game.
When SLI is enable I can't get more then 30FPS average. I try changing SLI rendering mode with no luck... nothing change.
I noticed that when SLI is enable I only get 25% GPU usage per card and my 3D GPU clock is not reaching MSI declare speed.
When SLI disable everything is working normally. I get 58FPS average, 95-100% GPU usage and my 3D GPU clock is working at MSI declare speed (I think it is 1020MHz).
So I suppose that this is negative SLI scaling...
I was doing some testing and SLI (I have enable show SLI visual indicator) doesn't work properly in any game that I have install on my pc (F1 2010, BF3, BC2 and NFS Shift).
I have same issue in all games: low gpu usage, 3d clocks doesn't reach declare speed (with three, two or only one monitor connected).
So next I installed Heaven Benchmark 4.0 and started testing and for some unexplainable reason SLI is working normally.
After that I started games again but no GO ... again in games SLI is not working correctly.
I was thinking that maybe my SLI profile are not working right... so I decided to change driver, I try 320.14 and 314.22 nothing change - SLI not working correctly.
Then I download nvida inspector and try to define SLI profile for those games - nothing change - SLI still not working correctly.
I even try to disable first card through device manager so I can test the second card and vice verse, separately both cards are working normally.
So only in Haven benchmark 4.0 SLI is working correctly I have GPU usage of 95% and declare speed for 3D clocks.
I have Win8x64 (fresh install), nothing overclocked, I enable Prefer maximum performance in nVidia drivers and disable V-sync. CPU Fx-8350, Asus sabertooth fx990 rev.2 (latest bios), 1200W chieftec power supply and everything is properly connected.
Is there a new bios release for my cards? Maybe this could solve my issue? And who can supply me with new bios?
Sorry for long post but I am really desperate... any thoughts or maybe solution.
    Regards

Well my monitor doesn't support more then 1680x1050, but still if this is the case I think that ATI is the way to go... my humble opinion.
So now I can sell my second card because SLI doesn't work... I am totally depressed.
Ok but can someone please, please supply me with new firmware for the cards? I just one to try it just to know that I tried everything before I go and sell those cards and go for ATI solution.
    Regards
