What is the main difference between Slice and Dice and Drill down and Drill across?

Planning Users can look at a layer in isolation (or slice the data). A customer segment manager isolates the numbers for a submarket and can then analyze individual contribution margin steps for the numbers.
<b>Dice:</b>
They can change the dimension (or dice the data). A product manager can look the customer perspective in relation to a Yellow Account the portion of revenue of the customer segment for a specific product, for example.
<b>Drill Down:</b>
(Pulling the information to Rows)
They can examine the detailed information of a cumulated number (or drill down through the data). For example, they can go from the total revenue from Yellow Account to the portion created by individual customer segments.
<b>Drill Across:</b>
Pulling the information to coloumns

There is no Slice&dice panel in Web Intelligence as the one found in Desktop Intelligence.
Still you can use crosstabs and block filters or even th drill function of WebI to get the same funcitonality.
Which version of WebI do you use?
The current version of SAP BusinessObjects Analysis (Folrmerly known as Voyager) offers analysis capabilities (incl. slice & dice) for SAP BW and Microsoft OLAP data sources.
What kind of data sources do you try to analyze?

Slice and 'saving for web and devices' not saving all images in selected area

Ive designed my site in illustrator and now im using slices and save for web and devices.
When I save a slice as a jpeg or gif it saves the text and but not the background image behind it. I haven't locked the background image and all the content is on the same layer in illustrator so why is it doing this and how can I stop it?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my Photoshop CS5 is updated to 12.1. I'm running OSX 10.5.8 and have tried viewing in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome with no improved success.
I have been reading these forums for about 3 hours trying to find the answer to this question but am still at a loss. I have found one article here:

which explains using an "absolute" value in CSS to lock images in place. I'm currently working in Dreamweaver to see if it's a common error in Photoshop when resizing browser but is easily fixed on the CSS side.

What is the function of the Slice and number 4 LUTs in cRIO9104 FPGA?

When I compiled the FPGA VI, the compliation report tell me that there is limitation of the resources pf FPGA, the FPGA that I am using is cRIO9104. Do you know what is the function of the slice and number 4 LUTs in FPGA? Which FPGA LAbVIEW code need to use these FPGA resources? And I have attached the compliation report for you as a reference.

You've simply got too much code to fit the available resources on that one particular FPGA, just as the error message says. I would take the error message's recommendations, or split up the functionality into two FPGA's.
By the way, LUTs are lookup tables, one way the compiler implements your code. Slices are areas that run independently (general case) of any other slice and how the FPGA achieves true parallel processing.

Slices and centering in dreamweaver

I have sliced my webpage in photoshop cs3 and followed the
output options. I open the html file in dreamweaver and now want to
center the sliced webpage. I watched a tutorial and it said I
should be able to click and select the entire table and align it to
center in the properties area. The problem I have is there is no
container around all the slices so if I try to highlight the outer
line of the slices it just grabs an individual slice. What have I
done wrong that won't allow me to grab all the slices and center it
as a page?

regardless if they are in tables or in div. Then you can
center the div

Export multiple slices and preserve slice name?

I am very particular about naming my slices what I want the filename to be, then do the right-click > export slice on each graphic, but when you have to do that for 50 slices it gets pretty annoying.
Is there a way to select a bunch of slices and export them with their current slice name, all at the same time? Rather than just giving it the generic root - name that they all go off of.

If you name the slices in the Web Layer (double-click on "Slice" then type a name without an extension), then that's the name they get when they're exported.
When I want to export only some of my slices, here's what I do:
Select the slices (either on the canvas or in the Web layer)
Go to File > Image Preview
Adjust any parameters (the Properties panel has limited selections, so this is one good option)
Click the Export button
For the Export: drop-down, select "Images Only"
For the Slices: drop-down, select Export Slices
Check box next to "Selected slices only"
Click the Save button
If you go through File > Export, you skip steps 3 and 4. If you've already optimized your file parameters, then you might prefer this workflow.
I'm using CS3, but I don't think this process changed in CS4.

How to embed *.aff and *.dic files

I have to use this function dict.load(".aff file path",".dic file path")
But it is not loading at runtime.
Can someone give me an idea how to embed these files???

It runs with .rar files. But i´m trying with .arj files and it doesn´t run. Looking at that library it decompress zip rar and tar files, but I can´t found the correct method to decompress arj files.

Problems with dynamic data slices and BEx Analyzer

Hello experts,
we use a data slice to lock released data.
This data slice contains an exit-variable which selects all plan that are already released out of a ABAP dictionary table.
The user can release data via planning function. He can start this function with a button in a BEx workbook.
He use the same workbook for insert planning data.
the problem is:
when a user releases data, the value of the exit variable in our data slice changes but the data slice 9999 seems to be NOT generated with the new value. the reuslt is, that the user can still change released data.
the data slice is just new generated after logout and login again not after refresh the query.
Is there a possibility to force the system to generate data slice 9999 with the actual value of the exit variable? maybe a function module or method?
We have this problem just in BEx Analyzer. In Web Reporting everything works fine and the data is locked by the data slice after refresh.

Hallo Johannes,
if you want to have this kind of behaviour you need to go for a data slice of type exit. You will find some information about this in the Planning forum.
The data slice is instantiated once, but when you release the data you need to call a method in your exit data slice which rereads the values. This is a rough idea how this could be done.

Difference between slice and tile Artix 7

Hello, here I attached a pic of a part of my FPGA (Artix 7 ac701).
From this pic I can understand that there are 10 slices, where each of these is recognized by XY coordinates. A tile is a division that includes sites, wires and PIPs. My question is: Is a tile contained into a slice? Meaning that a slice contains many tiles.

Rollover slices and preloads

I've researched and tried a number of preloads... but none of
them seem to work. I want to hide the load-in of the slices. I have
already optimized the slices individually, so that's not the
problem. I see many sites don't, but some do. I've tried looking at
their codes but to be honest I can't ferret out which lines do the
work, or where they are placed.
The workflow I have is image-ready to dreamweaver. I see that
dreamweaver has it's own internal routine, when you build the
rollovers there... but there must be some code that handles
image-ready source slices.

You could use Dreamweaver's preload function. Put this inside
your head

Hotspots, Slices, and Pop-Up Text

I have the Macromedia Studio MX 2004 product, including
Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, and Freehand. I'd like to know the
simplest way and tool to use (Fireworks? Flash? Dreamweaver?) to
create what I call a pop-up bubble (or box) with a textual
description inside when the user (ideally) mouses over (or not so
ideally..'clicks on') a part of an illustration or mouses over
other text (for example, textual captions). Please do a 'google' on
'Product Demos' and click on the 'Blackberry' link. You'll see a
bunch of thumbnails of their products...click on any product.
You'll immediately get a Flash 8 slide presentation show....but
click on the 'interactive' button below (lower far right) and
you'll see what I'm talking about with the text pop-ups...the
creator chose to have the viewer mouse over text to get these...I'd
also like to be able to mouse over parts/sectors of a graphic....

No free space on disk slice - and throwing I/O error

In one of my LDOMs, one slice is full. - unfortuantely that has the Oracle binaries
+/dev/dsk/c0d2s3 9.8G 9.8G 0K 100% /ora00+
But if do an ls on the slice , it is throwing I/O Error
ldg2#cd /ora00

On the same disk , all other different slices are working fine.
How wil i recover from this ?

What is the filesystem on c0d2s3? ufs?
What is the backend of the vdisk? Is it a physical disk, a file?
Can you provide the output of the command "prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0d2s2"
You can try to unmount the partition, then re-mount it. Also try to mount the partition read-only.

Slice & dice, Navigate , Drill-In/Down

Hello BW Experts,
Can I still be able to slice and dice, navigate or drill-in, drill-down if my cube characteristic does not have any attributes (navigational or display type)?
What if I do not use any attributes but have quite many characteristics related to one another, some across different dimensions?
Does it mean I cannot slice & dice?

Drill Down and Roll Up
Drill down and roll up are the operations for moving the view down and up along
the dimensional hierarchy levels. With drill-down capability, users can navigate
to higher levels of detail. With roll-up capability, users can zoom out to see a
summarized level of data. The navigation path is determined by the hierarchies
within dimensions. As an example, look at Figure 16 on page 45. While you
analyze the monthly production report of the west region plants, you might like
to review the recent trends by looking at past performance by quarter. You
would be performing a roll-up operation by looking at the quarterly data. You
may then wonder why the San Jose plant produced less than Boulder and would
need more detailed information. You could then use the drill down-operation on
the report by Team within a Plant to understand how the productivity of Team 2
(which is lower in all cases than the productivity for Team 1) can be improved.
Slice and Dice
Slice and dice are the operations for browsing the data through the visualized
cube. Slicing cuts through the cube so that users can focus on some specific
perspectives. Dicing rotates the cube to another perspective so that users can
be more specific with the data analysis. LetSs look at another example, using
Figure 17 on page 46. You may be analyzing the production report of a specific
month by plant and product, so you get the quarterly view of gross production by
plant. You can then change the dimension from product to time, which is dicing.
Now, you want to focus on the CellPhone only, rather than gross production. To
do this, you can cut off the cube only for the CellPhone for the same dimensions,
which is slicing.
Those are some of the key operations used in data analysis. To enable those
types of operations requires that the data be stored in a specific way, and that is
in a dimensional model.+

On the Characteristics tab page, the system displays a list of all the available characteristics. You can select those characteristics in the characteristics list which you want to use for your analysis, and add them to your report using the arrow keys. These are the drill-down characteristics, which you can navigate through freely in the report list.
As you see, SAP treats all characteristics as drill-down chars. Hence, you have 2 points of view in this thread.
Drilldown capabilities (SAP view) depends on chars and nav attributes. Doesn¡¦t matter of these chars have display attributes or not.
So, answer on your question about drilldown depends on your definition of it.
Now, about modelling.
I used to have a model where I put attributes of another chars as separate chars in the cube. I didn¡¦t want to make them navigational. And I had the report requirements to make selections/restrictions on these attributes. So, making them the separate chars was meaningful. Consider also the keeping history data (as I mentioned before).
From SAP point of view, multidimentional model means that you can use any chars (either separate or navigational) from any dimensions for drilldown.
In your case it¡¦s better to load master data first, with all attributes. In transactional data you can provide only the key field of the main/basis characteristic. Then in case of nav attributes their values in queries will be retrieved automatically.
If the attributes are separate ones (characteristics in the cube), then you may determine their values during transactional data upload in routines in update rules by looking up into master data tables of the basis char.
In order to not reload data again you may do the following:
1. Load master data for the basis IO.
2. Create new IOs that will be separate chars in the cube.
3. Create copy of your cube.
4. Insert in it new chars.
5. Create export datasourse for the old cube.
6. Create update rules for the new cube based on old one.
7. In URs map your new IOs with routines and create code for them.
8. Reload new cube.
