Slice battery for thinkpadt430s

Hello,
I have a thinkpad t430s with a 6 cell battery, i need to add batterylife and i find a socket that appears to be a socket for a slice battery in the bottom of my laptop however when i search for the battery on lenovo website or anywhere else i find nothing about a slice battery for the t430s and the 19+ slice battery for the x series doesn't seem it would fit ...
any guide her ??

Hi Ahmadposten,
Thank you for the reply!
Yes, is1981 was right. As told by ‘is1981’ you can use ‘Ultrabay Battery’ but only thing is that you can use either Battery or DVD drive. However you can keep the Ultrabay battery has backup battery.
ThinkPad Battery 43 (3 cell bay)
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

  • T520: Slice battery charging thresholds stuck

I bought a T520 (4240) a few months ago and, like most people around here had the same issues with pulsing fans and, on applying BIOS 1.28, CPU throttling issues. I'm not sure if the latter one is fixed properly yet, but I also have a problem with the battery charging thresholds that has me stumped.
I have the 55++ and 27++ 9-cell main and "slice" batteries. For a while I let them charge up to 100% whenever connected to AC, but then I read that a 100% charge level is not recommended for day-to-day operation.
I use Fedora 15 Linux 99.9% of the time on my T520. I wanted to set the battery charge thresholds to avoid the 100% charge level, but the "tp_smapi" Linux driver doesn't work for the T520 (yet). I read somewhere that if I were to set the charge thresholds with the Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 7, that they would work in Linux as long as the laptop was not completely powered down when switching from Windows to Linux (i.e., use a warm boot). Well, it worked. In fact it worked really well: I could even power down and remove the batteries and something, somewhere would still remember that I wanted to start charging the slice battery when it dropped below 35% and stop charging it at 80%, even when running Fedora 15.
Having used the machine for a few weeks, I found that I used it on battery power a lot and liked to "top up" the batteries over night. The 35/80 thresholds didn't really suit my working pattern. So, back in the Power Manageer in Windows, I changed the battery thresholds from 35/80 to 50/88 for both batteries (55++ and 27++). On booting back to Linux, I noted that the main battery would respect the new levels, but he slice battery was still stuck on 35/80. Back in Windows, I tried changing the levels in different ways, but the slice battery refused to charge to more than 80%, even under Windows, no matter what I did. It seems that my first change from the default (is it 96/100?) to 35/80 has gotten stuck somewhere and I cannot change it again.
I even notice in the Power Manager that the slice battery constantly toggles between charging and not charging when under AC power if I set the threshold to 85/90. Because the 80% level where the battery is stuck is lower than 85% (my new "start" threshold), charging kicks in, but it immediately stops again, as it won't go over 80%, then, of course, it starts again and stops again, and so on.
How do I fully reset the charge thresholds on the slice battery so I can exceed 80% charge?

I had kind of given up on this, but thank you KooMaster for your confirmation that I am not alone with this issue. I don't think this is a problem with the Lenovo or Windows software, as this happens to me when running Linux without either of those. My guess is that the problem is in the embedded controller (EC) firmware. It is responsible for charging the batteries and enforcing the charging thresholds (that's why they still work even when the machine is turned off).
It probably makes sense to charge each battery to 80% first, as it likely only takes half of the overall charge time to get to that level (the last 20% taking as long again). That way, we get both batteries to a useful charge level as fast as possible. However, based on your observations, it seems that someone in Lenovo forgot to tell the EC to check that the main battery has reached its upper charge threshold, not that it has reached 100%, before topping the slice battery up to its upper charging threshold.
Can someone in Lenovo please comment on this issue, as I raised it over seven months ago now and I haven't heard a single word from any of you about it? "KooMaster" has confirmed the problem on a different model with different batteries, so it seems highly likely that a quick check of the (shared?) EC firmware code and a patch will resolve this quite quickly.
(I updated my BIOS and EC firmware today and it made no difference to my problem.)

  • Slice battery craziness-What part number IS it???

Last September we purchased 5 slice batteries for our X230 systems.  One of them went bad about a month and a half ago, and I opened a warranty replacement ticket with Lenovo but they can't find a replacement battery to ship me (it's been out of stock for about 6 weeks now).  They shipped out an incorrect battery at first, and I am getting the run around with various warranty, tech support, shipping, and status departments (I've been transfered to them all, have to explain my situation over and over again, only to get more confusion each time).
The battery I have has TWO part numbers printed on it, but they can't seem to ever cross reference these part numbers with the battery.  The place we ordered these batteries from (CDW) have a Manufacturing Part number which is a completely different part number and which is NOT printed on the battery itself anywhere.  Then, I just got off the phone with another person at Lenovo who gave me a slightly different part number, and then another part number (5 so far).  How can there be so many different part numbers for the same battery and how can Lenovo not be able to cross reference them?
On the battery itself, I have two part numbers (again, why two???)
    FRU P/N:  42T4967
    ASM P/N:  42T4904
Then, there is a manufacturer part number (not listed on the battery anywhere) 0A36280
Then there is a fourth part number they gave me which is 42T4903
Then they gave me another part number of 45N1035
How can this be so complicated and why so many part numbers?

    jbobst,
Given the time elapsed since purchase, this would generally need to be addressed through service.  Service will deal exclusively with FRU or field replacement units.
During product life, we may introduce newer versions of a component or we may have an alternate supplier which can have a different FRU number but be functionally interchangable.   When newer parts are released, generally the older FRU subs to the newer one so if you order the older number on a product, if we are out of stock on that, the newer one can be sent instead.  Forward substitution.
I'll agree that this can be confusing and we try to make this seamless for the customer as much as possible.
Let me look into this overnight and see what we can do to locate stock.   I'll work with bgriffin on what we can do to accelerate this for you.
    Best regards,

  • Ultrabay battery for my T410

    Hi
Recently I've been starting to look around for new battery for my laptop mounted in ultrabay. When I got to know that there is no such accessories for T410 I was.... pretty surprised. Could anyone confirm this information? What do I do then? I don't want to buy new 9-cell battery. Is ultrabay battery for T410s or T400 fit to T410? Thanks for replies
    T420s type 4171-7FU

there is also the extra 9 cell battery slice that you can put in addition to the 6 cells battery, this is substantially more battery power than the ultrabay battery.

  • Tp_smapi with slice battery on w510

    Hi folks!
I've just finished to install Arch 64 & KDE on my new w510.
Until now I searched a way to manage the discharging of my 9 cell and the slice battery.
Unluckely I can't get my laptop to use the slice akkus at first when attached, and neither I can force manually the discharge of it.
I'm using the tc_smapi and thinkpad_acpi modules, attempts to set the force_discharge in /sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1 doesn't take effect.
Dmesg gives me the info "smapi smapi: set_force_discharge: set to 1 for bat=1  " , but reading (using cat) the content of the file returns 0 (should be 1)
Is there a workaroung or exists the chance to invert the mapping of teh batteries (BAT0 => BAT1 and viceversa)?
An other silly problem is that the laptop goes off when the first battery is empty, not changing (in time?) the power source to the slice battery.
Please let me know which further informations are neccessary.
    Corpswalker

    Thanks toad,
I followed the ArchWiki and the ThinkpadWiki.
Setting the thresholds is running correctly, only problem i have is the behaviour of the battery's discharging.
I can't force the discharging (select power source) of the batteries, google also failed to give me useful informations.
I can't also boot the laptop if the main batery is empty (slice battery is attached correctly). Can it be *also* a HW/Bios problem?

  • X220 Will Not Charge When Primary Battery is Dead with Slice Battery Installed

I have got it to do this twice so far, so looks like a problem.  My wife always puts her X220 to sleep versus shutdown.  Sleep still uses some power apparently which is fine.  It looks like it is draining only the primary battery even though the slice battery is connected.
The issue is that with the primary battery drained and the slice battery connected, the TP will not power up.  Plug the power adapter into the slice battery and still no power up.  The slice battery charged to 100% with it pluged in, but the primary battery would not charge.  Plug the power adapter into the X220 directly and let it charge for a moment, then everything works as it should even if you then move the power adapter back to the slice battery.
So if the primary battery is dead, the slice battery and charging the primary battery through it seems to stop working under this scenario.
Obviously not a huge deal since we now know what causes this, but maybe someone wants to fix some day.
I am using BIOS 1.16 and have been for a while.

    hey DevItHere,
have you tried updating your bios and at the same time uninstalling the power manager for your X220 and reinstalling it ?
    if not, please do so

I ordered a battery for my laptop because it said to replace battery soon.  How long can I let the new battery sit around as I wait for the old one to run out of more charge?  Will the new one become less effective if it sits around too long?

How much capacity is remaining on your current battery?

The new battery will become less effective if you store it in a hot or humid environment. It should be stored at room temperature (22 C).
    Long term storage (6 months):
Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

  • New Apple battery for macbook only lasting half as long as my old battery.

I'm having a bit of trouble here. Last month a family member needed to leave on an emergency trip but was having battery problems and didn't have time to get a new battery before catching her flight, so I gave her mine and a day or two later went to the apple store and bought a new OEM apple battery for myself. I believe that the old battery had around 80-90% left in its life and performance from the way it would act. Unfortunately this new battery would not interface with the computer at first. I followed the apple page battery troubleshooting recommendations and ended up resetting my power service manager (sorry if I'm butchering the name here) by removing the power sources and holding the power button for 5 seconds. It fixed the interface problems and the computer now recognizes the battery just fine. However, the battery life on this new battery is pretty poor. I only get about 60 minutes of youtube video watching out of it before its done (no other applications running), or about 100 minutes of general non-streaming use. My old battery was at least double this, if not more. Does anyone have any ideas where I should look next? Here is some battery information that might help:
    Model Information:
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB016
    Pack Lot Code: 0002
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0110
    Hardware Revision: 0500
    Cell Revision: 0200
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 626
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4935
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 9
    Condition: Normal
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1437
    Voltage (mV): 10860
Many thanks if anyone has an idea what I should do to help fix this. My Macbook has been great other than this one issue.

Have you tried calibrating your battery?

  • Is there a serial number for the battery for a Macbook Pro 17" (2008 or later)???, Is there a serial number for the battery for a Macbook Pro 17" (2008 or later)???

  • How can i buy new battery for my macBook pro in France

    Hello,
Please, someone can tell me how to find and buy new battery for my 2008 macBook pro in France ?
This one is very old, i already changed this battery one time, i think Apple store of town won't be ok to make the work cause i have made it myself one time before (it has fallen several times, almost broken, means impossible to shut the battery place but still working on). So i bought a battery to a third provider, wich doesn't work of course, try to ask to online assistance but i have to pay 30 € just to ask my question and i doesn't want...
SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO CHANGE MY BATTERY ??? HELP !!!
I bought it in 2008. I don't know exactly the serie. Just know it's a 2,4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo.
The reference of battery is A1281 10,8V 50 Wh. Can't find it on the store. The only one i found was on a website who didn't tell it's was a fake...
    Lost 85 €

Here are the International Apple support telephone numbers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/he57
I note Egypt is not listed.
Purchasing a battery from a third party vendor is a high risk proposition.  Many such batteries have been found to be substandard.
I suggest that you try and contact Apple and see if you can have one shipped to you.
    Ciao.

  • I live in Ireland. How can I buy a new battery for my N500?

I need to buy a new battery for my Lenovo 3000 N500.   However, in the Ireland section of the Lenovo web site NONE of the dealers have this part in stock.   It is in stock on the US and UK sections of the web site, but apparently only people in those countries can buy it on line.   I would be prepared to buy it online from the US or the UK and pay the shipping charges to Ireland.  In more than 13 years on the web, Lenovo is the first company I've encountered where I haven't been able to use my credit card to purchase an item from the US or the UK.   I do this all the time with companies like Land's End, Amazon, James Meade etc etc.
Fine, if I'm not allowed buy from the US and the UK.  But at least, then, make sure I have some other way of buying the part - either on line or from a store.

    According to Apple:
    iPod Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $49 (iPod shuffle), $59 (iPod nano and iPod classic), and $79 (iPod touch) plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

  • CMOS / RTC Battery for Satellite A100-326?

    Hi,
    I'm after a replacement CMOS/RTC battery for my A100-326
I've got my machine open and located the battery but it has no model number on it.
I have contacted a Toshiba assistance center and they replied that the battery is part of the board and the whole board has to be replaced. However, if I can find the reference for the battery, I have a friend in a computer store that will replace it with a new one.
Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Hi
Why you want to replace this
    Such battery is reachable
To charge the RTC battery you have to connect the AC adaptor to the notebook.
The main battery should be inserted too and the notebook should run for 20.24 hours.
Anyway, as far as I know its a Lithium Ion RTC battery 3V and 14mAh

  • Compatible Battery for Satellite A100-204

I can't find any replacement battery for my Toshiba satellite A100-204 Laptop. The original battery is a 4 cell recycable Li-ion PA3451U-1BRS. Everytime i look for this battery in google i only find it for the Toshiba M40.
It allmost looks the same but i am not sure if it is. Problem with my battery is that it gets empty after one hour, and i need more hours ;-).Everything is still new though (got it last weekend), is this normal for a 4 cell battery?
I would like a battery wich lasts longer, 8 cell or higher if there is. But i dont know wich ones are compatible and dont know how to look for it (actually i do. I aint no noob and allways find my stuff, but this doesnt work out the way i search). Looks like the laptop is a bit rare......
Please help me find one that will fit, and be sure of it :-D.
(Btw, I live in The Netherlands, if that might matter for finding the battery nearer.)

    Hi
I have investigated a little bit and it seems that these batteries packs are compatible:
    PA3399U-2BRS(6cell)
    PA3399U-2BAS(6cell)
    PA3478U-1BRS(9cell)
    PA3478U-1BAS(9cell)
    PA3400U-1BRS(12cell)
    PA3400U-1BAS(12cell)
The charger time of the 6cell and 9cell batteries is about 4houers and the charging time of 12cell batteries is about 5houers
Hope it helps a little bit.
