Slide doesn't advance after video finishes playing

Hi Everyone, I'm having a problem getting my slides to advance to the next slide after the flv/f4v files I inserted are finished playing. I have the slide set to On Exit: go to the next slide and I also have increased my slide duration to be as long as the video. I tried looking up this issue on lynda.com but the only option I found was creating a continue button for the user to click that will advance to the next slide after the video has finished playing but I don't want to have to do this Is the continue button my only option or is there a properties panel setting I am somehow missing? help!!!

Hello Avary
Welcome to Adobe Forums
Here are the steps that you can follow
- Create a blank project
- Inser the flv video
- Use the same Actions and observe that you are facing the same issue or not
- if on a new blank project it works fine
- Then try to copy all the slides in your original project (in which you are facing issues)
- Create a new project exactly of the same dimension (width and height)
- Paste all the slides and observe the issue is resolved or not
- If not then try to recreate prefernces of Captivate 5
Adobe Captivate 5:
Close Adobe Captivate.
Locate the preference folder:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5 folder
Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 5 folder
Mac:  /Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Captivate 5 folder
Rename the preference folder.
Restart Adobe Captivate. A new configuration folder is automatically created.
Here is the knowledge base article that i found on Adobe Website
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/883/cpsid_88360.html
If you still face the same issue after all these steps, you can contact Adobe support
Hope it helps !!!
Thanks
Vishal

    Hi,
Install the v10.6.6 combo update available here. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.6. The combo includes fixes that were not included in the original update.

Restart your Mac and try the MAS again.
You can download apps directly from the MAS once you have it running.
Considering the TM backup took so long, make sure there's enough space on your Mac startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.*

  • Is it possible to prevent slide advancement before video finishes?

    Hi all,
I've imported a couple of .flv videos and placed them on separate slides.
The user would watch these videos before reaching a couple of quiz questions.  I want to prevent the user from advancing before the video finishes, and, after the video finishes, have the project advance to the next slide, automatically.  So, essentially the user would sit back, put their feet up, and be able to watch several videos without having to touch the computer.  They would also be unable to "cheat" and reach the quiz questions before the video is done.
Is there a way to do this?  I'm using a trial version of Captivate 5.  I'm thinking I'll have to make custom navigation buttons.
    Thanks in advance!
    Annie

I figured it out.  I used this blog to get rid of the default navigation:
    http://blog.integratedlearningservices.com/2010/07/about-year-ago-i-posted-instructions-on .html
And then on the video slides I changed the properties to get rid of the skin on the flv video, displayed it for the rest of the slide, and paused the slide until the end of the video.
Important to note: it didn't work if I added my own navigation buttons in there.  The video would reach the end and then it would not advance.

  • Problem with slide advancing after video.

    Hello,
I'll start by mentioning I'm a Captivate rookie and am just learning. I'm currently using Captivate 5.
I'm using video within captivate and would like to give the user playback control of the video(s) itself. Initally I was using "Slide Video" as the playback bars were not a concern and the request came at the last minute. I believe I need to switch to inserting "FLV or F4V" to gain this control but here is my issue.
When I publish I can control the video just fine, but lets say the video is 5 minutes and I skip 3 minutes in the middle (so I only see 2 minutes of the 5), I still have to wait when the video ends for the remaining time to countdown before the slide advances to the next. How do I get the slide to advance as soon as the video is done, regardless of it's duration?
I'm sure it's easy but it's drivin' me bonkers!!
Thanks in advance for any guidance you fine folks might be able to provide.

    Welcome to our community
If you take a look at the properties panel, more specifically, the Timing area, there is an option you might wish to try enabling.
Click image below for possibly larger (and clearer) view
You might try to enable this setting and see if it helps. However, I hold the opinion that a bug exists with Captivate and this feature. In my classroom training I've noticed the option doesn't seem to allow the slide to progress. In other words, don't be surprised if it doesn't work for you. And if it doesn't, please Please PLEASE consider filing a bug report so the issue gains priority on the Adobe side for a fix. (Link to the bug reporting form is in my sig)

  • Video not showing after video finished rendering.. worked before rendering

after editing a project to burn to dvd ... creating the fbi warning, the opening menu and the submenus... all with motion... and all working fine, i uploaded the video ... and before it finished rendering, the video worked like a champ.... now after the rendering is over, and i click "simulate" to view the project ... the fbi warning works just fine ... but the actual movie itself does not. the audio works fine ... and can be heard clearly... but the video is nothing but completely black.
even when i scroll the video editing section where i chaptered it and what not, the video will not move. it just stops at the screen frame where i placed the mouse to start the video... but the audio continues.
i'm sure this is a setting i have overlooked as i've already authored DVD's before and never had this problem.
i thought the video was bad and even reloaded the video and let it render again .... anyone have any suggestions?
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

update::: figured out that the video was somehow corrupt. doesn't make any sense... but i just deleted and reloaded it and it works now...
new issue ::: when going to burn the DVD ... now i keep getting into the 20% range and then it says "video bitrate too high" ... so i've adjusted that repeatedly on the preference menu of studio pro ... and still getting the same issues.

  • Imported tracks crash iPod 4th after track finishes playing.

Imported tracks are converted music files from .mp3, I used Roxio Sound editor to 'enhance' the bass because these tracks otherwise playback faint compared to more recent tracks.
Note: This crash does not happen with all similarly converted and enhanced music tracks, but it is consistent with the 2 out of 10 songs so far.
I am planning to wipe the memory clean, but wanted to see if there are any other known solutions.
    Thanks!

    Hello there, German1.
The following Knowledge Base articles provide some practical and informative steps for how to bring content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
    and
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and Convert functions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347
From the "Adding music and other content to iTunes" article, this information in particular may prove useful:
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
If the issue persists, then this article may have some useful information to consider:

  • Wait on frame until video finishes?

    Hello,
Does anyone know if there's a way to tell flash to wait on a
frame until a video finishes playing, and then go to the next
frame? (I'm using progressive download. It has audio that needs to
    stay in sync.)
    Thank you for your help!

    kalibahlutwo,
    > I have imported an FLV and on import chose
    "progressive",
    > rather than embedding the video, because I read that if
    the
    > video has audio in it, it will stay syncronized better
    with
    > progressive than with embedded video.
I can neither confirm nor deny which plays better. But it's
    good to
know we're dealing with external video.
    > Flash automatically put the video into an FLVPlayback
    > component.
Yupper. :) Now we're getting warmer.
    > I would like to have the video play to the end, and then
    > have the Flash movie automatically go to the next frame.
Here's the scoop. Just about everything in ActionScript can
    be
described as an object. Objects are defined by something
    called classes,
which you may think of as object blue prints. The FLVPlayback
    Component,
for example, is defined by the FLVPlayback class, and you can
    look up this
class entry in your documentation. Components are listed in
    the Component
Language Reference and ActionScript clases are listed in the
    ActionScript
    2.0 Language Reference.
Classes define the properties of an object (the
    characteristics it has),
its methods (things it can do), and its events (things it can
    react to). So
class entries should definitely be your first stop, always.
    If you're
dealing with a movie clip, look up the MovieClip class. If
    you're dealing
with a dynamic or input text field, look up the TextField
    class, and so on.
Consulting the FLVPlayback class, then, we find that
    "FLVPlayback
extends the MovieClip class and wraps a VideoPlayer object.."
    Okay, what
does that mean? Well, in this context, it means that any
    FLVPlayback
instance -- such as the one on your Stage -- contains all the
    features
(properties, methods, and events) of a movie clip, because it
    *extends* the
MovieClip class. So this particular case is something of a
    wild goose
chase. Normally, the answers you want are already at hand.
    FLVPlayback is
a little different. But the documentation continues: "... and
    wraps a
VideoPlayer object," so now we know to get more information
    by looking up
    the VideoPlayer class.
Bingo. Here's were we find the answer. The VideoPlayer class
    includes
an event VideoPlayer.complete (see the Events summary in its
    class entry).
It also contains a method VideoPlayer.addEventListener(),
    which means we can
"listen" for the complete event. Good news.
So ... give your FLVPlayback Component instance an instance
    name.
Select it and look at the Property inspector. Let's name it
    vp, short for
video player. Create a new layer and name it "scripts" --
    this is where
    we'll put your ActionScript.
    var listener:Object = new Object();
    listener.complete = function() {
    trace("complete!");
    vp.addEventListener("complete", listener);
Here's what's going on. Events of the sort we're dealing
    with can be
handled with a listener. A listener is just a generic Object
    instance -- so
in line 1, we're declaring a variable arbitrarily named
    listener. It's of
type Object and is set to a new Object instance.
This listener object acts as a proxy for the FLVPlayer
    (actually, the
VideoPlayer) complete event. Via this listener, we assign a
    function to a
complete property. In this example code, I'm simply having it
    trace() the
string "complete!" to the Output panel. You'll want to have
    it send the
    main timeline to frame 2 -- _root.gotoAndStop(2);
Finally, our FLVPlayer instance, vp, invokes the
VideoPlayer.addEventListener() method to become a listener
    for "complete"
    events from the listener object.
    Done. Badda bing. :)

  • Advance to slide with video already playing

A client wants to be able to advance to a slide with the video already playing, this is for a live presentation, normally done by rolling in video from tape and using switcher to cross fade from text to moving video.
    Any solutions would be appreciated
    Thanks
mac pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the discussions, Magneticone.
If all you want is the equivalent of a crossfade, it can be accomplished quite easily.
In Keynote, video can play behind other objects, and can be set to play immediately upon slide transition. These two features allow you to emulate a cross-fade.
Set up the first slide in its final state, and take a screenshot of it at its full-size (100%). Set the transition to the next slide as "None" (the default).
On the second slide, insert your video file, and set it to play immediately after the slide transition (this is the default). Now, place the screenshot on top of the video image, align it so that it exactly matches the first slide, and give it a Dissolve build out, to run immediately (or with whatever delay you want) after the slide transition.
What will happen is that the first slide with transition to the second "invisibly", since the same image is on both. Once the second slide appears, the video behind the screenshot will start playing, and the screenshot will then fade to reveal the already-playing video. The effect will be of a slide crossfading with video.
(As is often the case with Keynote, it is helpful not to first approach presentation problems in terms of actual "slides", but instead in terms of what the effect should be. Many time you can fool the audience into seeing more or fewer "slides" than are actually used in the presentation, and this can make achieving certain effects possible, or easier.)

  • Do different recorded slide resolutions cause an imported FLV Video to Play incorrectly?

I’ve been working on a project involving many captivate files with flv videos inserted into slides I made the slides in Photoshop, I had the same type of project last year with the same client and had similar problems with the flv videos just not running or not running correctly, sometimes cutting off early.  This time using Captivate 4 I’m having problems with the videos playing through fine but then stopping and not continuing onto the next slide.  To even further complicate this sometimes in preview the video will play and then advance to the next slide and then after publishing the files and playing them they stop advancing and you have to select the play button to continue the presentation.
The setup for these video slides:
Edit the video in avid and export to After Effects.
Process the video in AE adding titles, keying, and exporting using render cue to FLV files
Process and Import the Photoshop slide into Captivate
Set the properties of the PS slide to; on slide enter; continue, on slide exit; advance to next slide.
Import the flv video at 640x480, skin = none, auto play auto rewind, Options = rest of slide, pause slide till end of video.
What I think I found and at least it is working again is, during the recording session with the various business managers while demonstrating their applications they would sometime resize their screens, so instead of recording at 1024x768 they would stop recording and change their screen resolution to 1032x774, to complicate this even further they were all operating their software applications using remote desktops.
I finally imported the slides into Captivate that were recorded at 1032x774 and resized them to 1024x768 during import and kept my resolution the same throughout the problem was resolved and the project played fine so far. The biggest problem I had was with a slide that fell between two slie sizes even though Captivate resized the slides on import and I resized the slide for the project resolution the Video FLV movie slide would play and then stop. I hope I’m making sense with this and I apologize if I’m not.
Is a recorded constant screen resolution critical when editing a captivate presentation and if so why? Is there a way to correct a slide problem in hypertext to force a slide to advance, and if so what program would accomplish this.  Thanks in advance.

  • RTMP video repeating (playing twice) while Captivate Slide paused. Anyone else seen this ?

I have a project that is published as SCORM 1.2 with a bunch of RTMP videos served from CloudFront. I tend to set the Slide duration to 5 secs and the Buffer value to 3Secs and choose Auto-Play, Auto-Rewind Display for Rest of Slde, and select "Pause slide till end of video". These settings typically have worked fine but recently some of the videos are repeating (playing twice) while Captivate Slide paused. I've tried all sorts of combinations but it seems intermittent. I thought of not pausing the Slide and setting the slide duration to the video duration plus a little extra but am a little worried that if there is buffering that the Captivate presentation will go ahead before the video finishes. Could anyone shed any light ?
    Fergal

yes, they are SWF 8 files, and i see them separately after i
publish from captivate...is there a way to force them to embed (if
thats better)? it seems like it kind of randomly decides which it
    wants to do.
also, i do have the source files and i'll try that blank
frame and let you know if that fixes anything. thanks!

  • Why do some YouTube videos stop playing after a short time?

Since sometime in October, 2013, I have noticed that more and more YouTube videos stop playing within a minute of starting. Most that stop do so in 15 or 16 seconds. The playing stops because the download stops. I watch this on a network activity monitor I always have running. Not all videos do this, but the problem is becoming more and more frequent. Some videos which played correctly for me in the recent past are now exhibiting this problem.
Other than installing the latest Firefox updates I have NOT changed the software on my machine. I run Linux by the way. I do not think this is a Linux problem because (1) it was all working before and (2) my son who runs both Mac OS X *and* Windows is also seeing the same problem. We both use Firefox as our browser on all our platforms.
I should also note that I am NOT seeing this problem with any of the other video websites I use, only when I go to YouTube. That leads me to believe that the problem is not in Firefox; if it were it should affect videos from all websites.
Additionally the problem occurs whether or not I log into YouTube.
I have not run Firefox in safe mode because all the extensions I use did not affect the download of Videos before, so I don't expect unchanged extensions to suddenly start causing problems.
So, anyone else see this problem? (There was another note which talked about the same problem but it was disabled.)
Also -- pardon my paranoia, but -- I need to ask: Since YouTube is owned by Google and Google has its own browser it wants you to use, Chrome, is it possible that Google is intentionally causing some YouTube videos to fail if it sees that they are being sent to Firefox?
(That is not so outlandish I think. Microsoft WAS at one point caught mangling web pages going to certain web browsers other than IE. And these days Google wants to dominate the Internet just as badly as Microsoft does, so why not pull dirty tricks too?)
If this keeps happening I am going to have to try Google's Chrome to see if it somehow manages to play YouTube videos correctly while Firefox does not. But I really do NOT want to install Chrome because I trust Google about as much as I trust Microsoft, which is to say Not At All.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
There have been some issues with Flash 11 in the recent past. This could be a manifestation of that issue. Kindly check this response below to see if this helps you in viewing Flash videos.
Also, if you want to check if this is a flash problem and specifically on youtube, you can try the HTML5 version of Youtube. In this, there are no plugins involved, and the browser natively renders the videos. You can signup for the HTML5 trial by visiting http://youtube.com/html5. Please try that and check if the issue goes away.
Also, in this case, Google might not be doing anything sinister - they generally try to be standards compliant too. You can definitely try installing Google Chrome and test this issue, but we definitely would want you to continue to be a Firefox user :)
    <hr>
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

    Also, try this one too
Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash update and/or a malfunctioning browser plugin such as Real Player.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:

The video player mentioned in your opening remark is for a QT player, not a Flash, so for that you would not be using those Flash .swf files.
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
Farther down I see a banner .swf, but that's NOT the video in question is it?
Also, you are using 2 different paths, one in the <object>:
    <PARAM NAME="src" VALUE="../Video/../Video/Mitel_Unified_Communicator_Advanced.mp4" >
and a different path in the <embed>
    <EMBED SRC="../Video/Mitel_Unified_Communicator_Advanced.mp4
You didn't mention what browser/s you have tested in and you didn't mention if you are testing the videos directly (click on mp4 file and open directly in QT) or if you tested in a browser locally before uploading to server.
Does the Browser you are testing in have a QuickTime pluggin? if not, the video will not display
Quite a number of variables.. for more help, please post a link to the actual page.

  • PDF video continues playing after leaving page

    Hi all,
When I publish a video as a PDF, it plays through Adobe smoothly. However, when I click on a hyperlink within the PDF video linking to Youtube or somewhere externally, the PDF video keeps playing causing 2 audio stream overlapping.
Is there a way to pause the Captivate PDF video after leaving the page to watch a Youtube video via hyperlink?
    Thanks in advance!

Use an FLYPlayback component to stream the video and when you are about to leave the frame execute its stop() method

  • Determine when a QT video has finished playing w/ javascript

I need to determine when a video clip is finished playing so that I can trigger a function to perform other actions. I can find functions on how to monitor loading & that sort of stuff. But, I can't find a way to monitor when it's finished playing.
The video clip will be loaded 100% first, then played without any controls (forced to play through), and then hopefully have a function to play it.
I could always try to determine that if it's a 30 second clip that 30 seconds after it's loaded 100% to perform the action, but I'd rather just have something monitor when it's finished.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    scott

Hi Tracy thanks for your reply!
Yep sorry I know swfloader cant play video but what I have is
    actually a music video swf.
Would you be able to give me a small example of how i can
listen for that event please because I have tried listening for a
'complete' event but it never gets fired?
    Many thanks

  • Why doesn't my mp4 video play from an HTML5 Course?

I have an online course that consists of 6 slides.  4 of those slides are for delivering streaming video from a Flash Streaming Server. Per our LMS Solution Provider, I have modified the streaming path names so they point to the mp4 files on the streaming server.  I have the same online course that is published as HTML/SWF to SCORM2004.  That version of the course has the video place holders pointing to the same directories on the Flash Streaming Server, except the stream path/name points to the FLV video files.  That course plays just fine.  I have a Flash Streaming Server test tool from my LMS Provider that I can use to test the mp4 video files to ensure they stream properly.  I have tested the stream names that point to the mp4 files using that tool and the video file stream just fine.  When I launch the same course from our LMS using the content that was published in Captivate 6 as HTML5 to AICC specs, the course launches but the mp4 video files do not play. Keep in mind that they are set to stream and not download.  I can advance thru the slides using a playbar, but the video will not play.  Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Any ideas on where I can look?

I have tried Google Chrome ver. 26.0.1410.43 m.  I have also tried in IE 9. It is my understanding that these are HTML5 compliant.  Since posting this question, I saw some additional information in a different area of the Adobe Forums that suggests that it is not possible to stream MP4 Video from an Adobe Captivate 6 course that is published to HTML5. It was not real clear in the way it was stated, but it seemed to imply that you can embed MP4 video but you cannot stream MP4 video using RTMP from a Flash Streaming Server.  I am now trying to get someone to confirm that statement from the Adobe Captivate 6 Team. I assume that the Captivate 6 Team monitors this forum.
