Slide duration and transition

Sorry for such a basic question, but I need to get a movie (which I took over for someone else) ready for a funeral and I don't have a lot of time. I am using Imovie 5.0.2. I can upgrade if it will make either of my needs below any easier.
I need to remove all the transitions between over 100 slides. Is there anyway to do it all at once?
Also I need to make all the slides have the same duration of 10 seconds. Is there anyway to do this all at once?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

We make a product called Photo to Movie which can do this. I think newer versions of iPhoto can do it too. My experience (which is why I wrote Photo to Movie) is that iMovie's slide shows are cumbersome to edit.

  • Slide Duration and Build Duration

    I have created a slideshow in keynote with individual settings for each slide. When I go to export, it only allows me to set a standard slide and build duration. Is there not a way to keep the individual settings on export? I tried setting to 0 so that it would default to the presentatio but that did not work. The setting options are the same for Quicktime and iDVD. Has anyone conquered?

    Solved it!
    Try ScreenFlow from www.telestream.net/screen-flow/. Costs $99. Works a treat. Download a watermarked demo and see if it works for your programme. It did for my most troublesome one which has a whole show music track plus timed sound on each slide.
    Very easy to use: get your Keynote ready to run, open ScreenFlow, press record, when show finished press shift/command/2 to stop recording. Save the Screenflow version. Edit it to precise length in Screenflow then export it in whatever formats and whatever of its features added you want. Good Mac interface too.
    Screenium was erratic. Camtasia: far too expensive and feature filled for the job.
    No, it doesn't help recording the show, as you've probably found out by now.
    Having said all that it hurts having to pay the same as for the whole iWorks suite for something Keynote should do properly. Ranting, sorry. I think what Keynote does at export is to add the delay time entered in the build after the slide sound has played. Result slide up twice as long as it should be. Mr Apple should get it right.
    Also you may have noticed that when making a programme and playing it from a position farther in than the actual start the programme soundtrack starts from the beginning and not from where it would be at that place. No fix for that and hours wasted having to sit through the whole thing from the beginning to see if certain pictures sync to the soundtrack where you wanted them to.

  • I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the app does not accept the change, and automatically enters its own time. Am I doing something wrong?

    I am having issues with adjusting the duration of time for each still frame and transition in imovie 11.  Each time that I adjust these times, the application does not accept the change, and instead automatically enters its own time. Is there a work around this? Or am I doing something wrong? Please Help!
    Thank you,

    Have you tried turning off automatic transitions ? Choose file - project properties and follow the dialogue box to change duration with a slider.  iMovie also doesn't allow a transition to be more than 50% duration of the clip its attached to. In other words if the clip is 4 seconds the transition cannot be more than 2 seconds and remember that relates to the first clip as the following clip (right side) is pulled back to overlay it.
    Does this help.  Perhaps you already know this ?

  • Problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11

    I downloaded iMovie 11 from the Apps Store last night and am trying to make my first movie with it today. I use still photos exclusively.
    For most - but not all - I like 5 seconds for photos and for transitions 2 seconds. I do vary this on occasion and so do not check "for all photos' or "for all transitions".
    I can't get these settings to work with this version of iMovie. For example, I added a photo (5 sec) then a transition (2 sec) which changed the duration time of the photo - as it should. But when I double clicked the photo, to bring up the inspector window to change the duration of the photo, nothing happened. Then I added another photo. The duration of the first photo increased to 7 seconds and nothing I do seemed to change that.
    The time increases seem random: for example, sometimes the time on the still photo increases to 6:29 sec, sometimes to 7 sec.
    The duration for the transitions always remains the same - 2 sec; it's the time for the photos that jumps around. And I haven't been able to find a way to get back to 5 sec.
    Before posting this, I researched and found an number of earlier posts detailing the same issues.
    However, none of these posts had stars to indicate the problem was solved.
    Has anyone found a solution or is this a bug that should be reported to Apple?

    Interesting!!
    I've spent a lot of hours on this too, but I have come up with a different solution perhaps because I like to vary both the image duration and the transition duration in my movies.
    Here's my process:
    -> Knowing that (a) I want most of the photos to be visible for 5 seconds and most transitions for 2 seconds and (b) that a transition takes half from the photo before and half from the photo after, under File>Project Properties>Photo Duration I chose 7 seconds - each photo will 'lose' a total of 2 seconds from the transitions in front and behind. I did not check either "Applies to all transitions." or "Applies to all photos." - See below for why.
    -> I discovered, as you have, that all the photos have to go in before I add any transitions. This was new to me. With all previous versions of iMovie I simply added a photo then a transition then another photo one at a time. I had to fiddle with the timing adjustments, but at least I could fiddle. With this new version of iMovie I can't. Once the transition is in place, I cannot change the duration of the photo.
    -> Sometimes, I want a longer or shorter duration for a photo. For example, on photos to which I apply the Ken Burns effect, I often want the image on the screen for a slightly longer time. In this case, I have to use the inspector to change the duration before I add the transitions. So I might set the time for 8 seconds; when both transitions are added, the time for this photo becomes 6 seconds, which is what I want.
    -> The same applies if I want a transition to be shorter or longer than 2 seconds. If, for example, I want the duration for a transition to be 1 second, then I have to change the duration on the two linked photos to 5 1/2 seconds.
    All of this requires much more prior planning than I am used to with iMovie. Right now, I working with batches of 5 or 6 photos at a time. I don't put a transition on the last photo in the batch until I have added the next group of photos. And things get really tricky if I don't like my original design. If I want to change anything, I have to take out all of the transitions linking the photos I want to work on, do the math, make the changes in the photo durations, then put the transitions back.
    Perhaps I am trying to make iMovie do more than it was intended to do, I don't know. Perhaps this problem stems from the fact that I bought just iMovie 11 from the Mac Apps Store and not the entire iLife 11. Don't know that either. But at least I have found a way to make the movie look the way I want it to look.
    Thanks for sharing your process. I will use it when the circumstances are right.

  • Not able to change slide duration. It's set to 4.0; I change it to 3.0 and it changes to 6.5 or something. What am I doing wrong?

    I can't seem to change the slide duration in iMovie. It's set to 4.0 automatically. I change it to 3.0. The program resets it to 6.5 or something I never intended. What am I doing wrong?

  • Slide duration button greyed out

    I have imported a sound track to my slideshow in Aperture 3 and everything seems fine except that the slide duration button is greyed out and therefore not allowing me to set slide durations 'on the fly'. Any suggestions on how to make the slide duration button active?

    What theme are you using? Some themes require a minimum slide duration to allow for smooth transitions. The "Classic" theme is the most flexible.
    With some themes the option "Fit slideshow to main audio track" will disable the "Play slide for ..." button. To enable this individual control again, you will have to turn off  "Fit slideshow to main audio track" if it is active.

  • Help with Flex preloading and transitions please

    I downloaded and installed Flex Builder 3, and I think I have
    my slideshow project about 75% finished. It's the last 25% that I
    can't figure out, regarding preloading and transitions. Can someone
    take a look at the code below and see if you can help me? I tried
    to write the code in such a way that you can debug it from any
    computer as it's calling an PHP/XML file and images that are on a
    server.
    Here's what's finished...
    1. PHP file looks at image files on server and builds XML
    file.
    2. Flex app calls PHP file and traverses the XML in the
    response.
    3. Flex app figures out how many "slides" there and displays
    the slides one at a time, each slide with 3 images, with a 5 second
    delay between "slides."
    Here's what's not finished...
    1. I would like a fade-out to white at the end of each slide,
    and a fade-in from white at the beginning of each slide.
    2. I need each slide to stay put intil the next slide is
    pre-loaded. That is, during the 5 seconds that a slide is
    displayed, the next 3 images need to be preloaded, and then the
    slide should not progress to the next until slide is completely
    loaded.
    3. The very first slide should not appear until it is
    completely loaded, and when it does appear, it should fade in from
    white.
    How do I do this?!? Please help! Here's the code...

    What you've done is beyond my capabilities, as of now. But, I
    ran into the same problem with the fading in and out of the photos.
    Here's my solution.
    I defined my fade with only the id and the duration
    parameters. No 'from' and 'to'.
    Then I used the 'showEffect' and 'hideEffect' parameters.
    showEffect="{bannerFade}" hideEffect="{bannerFade}"
    Works like a charm for my project.
    I hope this helps.

  • Exporting presentation to movie file:  build/slide duration

    I have been unable to find this in Keynote's help file.
    When exporting a Keynote presentation to a self-playing movie file, you are asked to specify:
    [1] Build duration
    [2] Slide duration
    I suppose this should be obvious, but I can't quite figure out what they mean with respect to a .mov file.

    In case Brian's answer wasn't what you were looking for, in the self-playing mode, build duration refers to how long each animation build/slide transition should take, and slide duration determines how long a slide should stay on-screen once all transitions are completed on it.

  • IDVD, time and transition problems

    I made a iDVD from pictures only, no movies or music.  I set the time for 5 seconds between pics and chose "dissolve" for the transition.  I burned it on a DVD-R.  It's only about 3 seconds between pics and no transition.  Any suggestions?

    Try again but with this workflow:
    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
    You're getting 3 seconds per slide because it takes about 1 second on each end of each slide for the transitions. No way around that except to use 10 seconds and end up with 7-8 seconds per slide or use a longer transition like fade in and out which might shorten it down to around 6. You'd have to experiment.

  • Slide Duration in Timeline

    I am not able to change my slide duration in the timeline of Cativate 5 as I could with other versions. I can see the move arrow and it will move the duration forward but not back. Thanks for any help ASAP.
    Cher

    Check all the objects on your slide that go right to the end of the slide.  One or more of them are probably Timed for a specific number of seconds which will turn out to be the same as the current duration of the slide.  Until you change their duration, you won't be able to get your slide duration less than what they currently are.
    If you select the objects that currently go to the end of slide and hit Ctrl + E keystroke combination, they will all be set to Display for Rest of Slide.  Then you should be able to drag the slide duration at will.

  • Slide duration not following global settings - CP4

    I'm using Captivate 4 and I've set the global slide duration to 1.5 seconds.
    I've recorded an Automatic Recording using the Custom Mode.
    When I preview my recordings I discover that all the slide durrations are 4+ seconds.
    I've been manually adjusting the slide durration for each recorded slide (very annoying.)
    Is there any way to have the slide duration adhere to the global settings?

    Hi again
    So this is a simulation and not a demo?
    If so, you need to ensure the Click Boxes are all configured to Go to the next slide when clicked.
    If it's just Demonstration, note that an option exists for recording in "real time". What this means is that during the recording process, if you click the Edit menu, wait 20 seconds, then move the mouse down to one of the menu options, Captivate will time the action identically. Perhaps that option is what you are looking for?
    If so, click Edit > Preferences > Recording > Settings and enable the option. (I believe it's normally disabled by default)

  • How to access "Display Time" / Slide Duration variable?

    I'm using Adobe Captivate 4, and I'm trying to programmatically access the "Display Time" for the current slide (ie: the slide duration).
    How do I do that? I've looked through all the system variables in the actions dialog but to no avail.

    Hi Lilybiri,
    I retried it this morning and it works for me. Here are some pointers:
    I think it's a coincidence if CP hung when inserting the animation. It never did for me and I inserted it before and after. It's a possibility but I doubt.
    Make sure that slide1Duration is written with a lowercase "s" and a capital "D". I noticed that you wrote it with a capital "S".
    It works in TC and RollOver TC but it's not working with the click box captions. However, I could not get a standard variable like $$CaptivateVersion$$ to appear in the CB caption either.
    I really think that your issue lies with the capital "S". Give it a try.
    Finally, I'm not a good person to recommend books. I have learned AS2 and AS3 just from the Adobe help file. I never read a book or tutorial beside the help. Also, my background being a s/w developer, catching up with AS3 was not that much of an issue since I understand all the OO (Object Oriented) concepts. If you ever have questions about AS3, let me know and I'll try to help you out.

  • Make pictures slide in and out of view?

    Hello!  I have created an xml slide show and currently when one presses the next or back btns then the next or previous image will come on screen. I am trying to make it where when one presses next the next image will slide on the screen from the right side and stop at the center while the previous image slides off to the left side.  I am posting the code that I have currently but I am not sure where to take it from here.
    I am fairly new to AS as a note.
    var xmlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("imageData.xml");
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(xmlRequest);
    var imgData:XML;
    var imageLoader:Loader;
    var rawImage:String;
    var rawH:String;
    var rawW:String;
    var imgNum:Number = 0;
    var checkSec:Timer = new Timer(100);
    var numberOfChildren:Number;
    var vx:Number = 0;
    var ax:Number = 0;
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, xmlLoadedF);
    btnNext.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextImgF);
    btnNext.buttonMode = true;
    btnBack.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, prevImgF);
    btnBack.buttonMode = true;
    function xmlLoadedF (event:Event):void{
         checkSec.start();
         checkSec.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
         imgData = new XML(event.target.data);
    function packagedF():void{
         checkSec.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
         rawImage = imgData.image[imgNum].imgURL;
         numberOfChildren = imgData.*.length();
         rawW = imgData.image[imgNum].imgW;
         rawH = imgData.image[imgNum].imgH;
         imageLoader = new Loader;
         imageLoader.load(new URLRequest(rawImage));
         master_mc.addChild(imageLoader);
         imageLoader.x = (stage.stageWidth - Number(rawW)) /2;
         imageLoader.y = (stage.stageHeight - Number(rawH)) /5;
    function checkerF(event:TimerEvent):void {
         if (imgNum == 0) {
              packagedF();
         }else if(imgNum < numberOfChildren) {
              packagedF();
         }else{
              imgNum = 0;
              packagedF();
    function nextImgF(event:MouseEvent):void {
         checkSec.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
         imgNum++;
    function prevImgF(event:MouseEvent):void {
         checkSec.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, checkerF);
         imgNum--;
    I was able to manage getting the image to come on screen and slide off to the right or left with onEnterFrame but not with the use of a btn. And then my code for the buttons did not work any more. Here is the basic code I used for that (just the basic added code not included in the above code). I also modified the above a little to fit this code but here it is so you get the idea:
    private var vx:Number = 0;
    private var ax:Number = .2;
    //this was included at the end of the- function packageF():void {
            addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onEnterFrame);
    private function onEnterFrame(event:Event):void {
            vx += ax;
            imageLoader.x += vx;
    I am probably doing this totally wrong and not going in the right direction.
    Can you pls help me? Thanks in advance!

    Hey thanks! Tween was just the tool and works well now. The first eases on stage from the left and when I press the btnNext the image on stage eases out to the left and the next image eases on from the right.
    This leads to my next question.... When I add the btnBack it goes all funky.. the image that went off stage to the left comes back on stage from the left but then the next image on the right comes on stage at the same time! I am trying to get the image that went off stage to the left when I pressed next to come back on stage and the current picture that is on screen to go back off the the right.
    Here is my code thats working with tween but not on the back btn:
    import fl.transitions.Tween;

    var checkSec:Timer = new Timer(100);
    var numberOfChildren:Number;

         inTween = new Tween(imageLoader, "x", Regular.easeInOut, 1500, (stage.stageWidth - Number(rawW)) /1.65, 1.5, true);
         imageLoader.scaleX = .8;

         outTween = new Tween(imageLoader, "x", Regular.easeInOut, -1200, (stage.stageWidth - Number(rawW)) /1.65, 1.5, true);
         imgNum--;
    So, whats the deal here? I must be missing something like a listener or something. Not sure what. Can you pls help?
    Thanks!

  • Turn Off Slide Duration Web Gallery Output

    I am using CS5 Bridge, I would like to turn off the slide duration feature on the web gallery output.  The box requires a value.
    If the product will only produce web gallery output with a slide duration is there a way to hack the html output and remove it manually?
    What is your opinion of installing the legacy web gallery plug in.

    Dan:
    You can temporarily disconnect from the internet, unplug the modem to computer cable. If you're wirelessly connected then turn off the Airport on the Mac, not the base station.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
