Slide Libraries discontinued in SharePoint 2013

According to
this page, the Slide Library Feature is discontinued.
Dear SharePoint Team, what shall we use instead? How can we make sure we won't lose this functionality in future Versions?
Thanks,
Neno

It may be "deprecated", but it's still there (most likely for SP 2010 upgrade compatibility)

  • Slide libraries are no longer available in SharePoint 2013, what to plan when upgrading from 2010 to 2013?

What will happen to the existing 2010 libraries when we try to upgrade them to SharePoint 2013? What can we do to them now to prevent them from breaking since we are currently on SharePoint 2010?
    -Kash

    Hi,
If you're using a third-party tool, you can map the slide libraries to standard document libraries.
Even if is no the subject, you can still create Slide libraries in SharePoint 2013, please see : http://techtrainingnotes.blogspot.fr/2012/11/finding-missing-sharepoint-2013-slide.html.

  • SharePoint 2013 - document libraries and newsfeeds are visible when viewed using Internet Explorer running on the server but not from any other machine

On a single Windows 2012 R2 server I have installed SQL 2012 and SharePoint 2013 SP1 with the latest update roll ups. When I remote desktop to the server using the farm and site collection admin account  and open page http://server_name_here using
Internet Explorer, I'm able to see newsfeeds and document libraries.
If I connected to a separate Windows 7 machine as  the farm and site collection admin account  and open page http://server_name_here using Internet Explorer, I'm able to view the SharePoint pages except I cannot see any newsfeeds or document libraries.
There's just blank space where they should be. I have repeated this process on several other machines that are not the server and get the same result on every machine (I've tried other servers, desktops, adding the SharePoint site to the trusted sites list
in IE, even using firefox). I'm using the same account as I did when I logged onto the server directly. Any thoughts as to what's going on?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the idea, Harsh. What am I looking for?
It is currently set to the default of http://server_name and http://server_name:port_number (the latter is for Central Admin).
When I have access to the server, I have always done so the same way, using http://server_name. This was true when I access it from the desktop of the server itself and when I tried to access it from other desktops and servers (the machines where I had the
issues with the libraries and feeds not showing up). Are there other values I should add?
I have not tried to add http://server_FQDN as we don't plan on using that to access it but if you think it will help I would be happy to add it.

  • Issues when trying to setup alternate sync location of OneDrive for Business / SharePoint 2013 Libraries

    Hello,
I have an issue that prevents me from choosing the alternate location of sync'ed OneDrive for Business folders. I'm trying to setup an alternate location for synchronization, using the guidelines found in the Office support web site.
The option to replace the default sync location appears the first time a SharePoint 2013 Library or OneDrive for Business is setup for synchronization.
Here would be a link to a snapshot (since my account has not been verified): /Forums/getfile/443247
At this point, the Library or personal OneDrive folder syncs correctly and the files are stored in the alternate choosen location.
However, on when trying to setup an additionnal Library for synchronization, the alternate sync location has not been saved and reverts to the default sync location. Furthermore, the option to replace the default sync location does no longer appear
    on the dialog box.
Here would be a link to a snapshot (since my account has not been verified): /Forums/getfile/443249
I have tried by first sync'ing a SharePoint 2013 Library (instead of the personal OneDrive for Business folder) with the same result. Meaning that the first SharePoint 2013 Library correctly sync's in the alternate location of my choosing. However,
any subsequent attempts to sync either a SharePoint 2013 Library or the OneDrive for Business folder results in them being sync'ed to the original default location in a folder under the user's profile directory.
    I'm using Office Professional Plus 2013 (64bits). The version of Groove.exe is 15.0.4605.1000 (12th March 2014 - 13 383 360 bytes).
Is there something I'm missing ?
Thanks for any help on this issue.

    Hi SpringComp,
You can change the root path for libraries you sync to your computer, though you can do this only if you’re not currently syncing any libraries. If you’re already syncing at least one library and you want to change the path, you must first
stop syncing all libraries. Then, the first time you run the OneDrive for Business wizard to sync a library to your computer, you’ll see an option to change the location.
More information, please refer to the link:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/support/change-the-location-where-you-sync-sharepoint-libraries-on-your-computer-HA102893480.aspx
    I hope this helps.

  • Problem opening documents from SharePoint (2013) libraries with Office 2010 and 2013 components installed

    Hi
I've been encountering the problem of Office files failing to open from SharePoint 2013 libraries with the prefix of 'ms-excel:ofv|u|' etc. in the url. Following the
helpful questions and answers in the forum, I've identified the likely cause as the fact that my main Office installation is 2010, but I also have installed OneDrive for Business 2013 (which I need in order to sync document libraries with my local drive).
The solution I've seen suggested elsewhere of deactivating the SharePoint integration of Office 2013 components fails for two reasons: there is no way (or at least, I can't find one) of deactivating SharePoint integration probably because, deactivating
SharePoint integration would likely stop the syncing of libraries/folders.
One thing that I have noticed in my case that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere is that if I right-click a document and select 'open in new tab/window' the required
document opens directly in the relevant office package. I don't know if this is a useful observation, but it seems to be new information.
My question is, is there a way I can continue to sync libraries and open Office documents directly in Office 2010? My thoughts are possible changes to registry settings
(which I can do, but don't know enough to find the correct ones myself) or (re)installation of software in some appropriate order to leave the correct settings.
I have 'repaired' my Office 2010 installation without any observed affect on behavior.
    Thanks
    Ray
(I've just seen a suggestion that Office 2010 SP2 may fix this issue. I've requested to test this, but whilst this may fix my problem, rolling it out to
other users may be more problematic. In the meantime, other suggestions of solutions are welcome)

    Hi,
According to your description, it is a good way to do a test about office 2010 SP2, here is an article about this issue- limitations of using the OneDrive for Business sync app with Office 2010 applications , it may help you.

  • How to hide libraries from breadcrumb in SharePoint 2013?

    Hi,
How to hide libraries from breadcrumb in SharePoint 2013? just we want to display parent and least node like below,

Please help us to resolve this.

    hi
OTB breadcrumb have many problems, e.g. it doesn't work properly also with friendly urls. The simplest way is to create custom breadcrumb, e.g. as shown here:

  • Sharepoint 2013 Libraries

We are looking at how best to design our Sharepoint 2013 and I have a few questions re Libraries.
We are a Public Sector business- and have 7 main Business areas (Adult and Children services, Environment, Transport, etc.) I am considering that they each have a site collection and each department in each business area has its own team site. Adult and
Children Services (ACS) have an Adoption team so we would have a Site Collection for ACS and Adoption would have a team site.
I'm wondering if the following is possible:
Each Team Site will have one or more libraries specific to its needs. So Adoption Tem Site could for example have 3 Libraries: Adoption Applications / Adoption Policies / Adoption Case Files (I'm making these up but hope it makes sense). One big reason I
am considering this set up is because the business currently use government defined taxonomy and this is how the current document file plan is structured. So users are familiar with putting docs in correct folders however I am not suggesting a library is created
for each folder but rather for each major category.
Scenario 1: User creates a brand new doc using MS Word and then drops it into the Sharepoint team library.
Q1: Is it possible that the library can restrict docs being added if they do not have mandatory tags applied? I.e. can libraries be created that restrict what can be added? For example you can’t add a document to the library if an Adoption Application case
    worker has not been assigned.
Q2: Is it possible that when a doc is added to a library that Meta tags are applied automatically to the doc based on predefined tags for that library. So for example if I drop a doc in the Adoption Applications library then that doc is assigned a specific
taxonomy classification, id sequence value etc. This means users don’t have to repeatedly assign tags.
I know the ideal is to use to doc templates so that correct docs are used and correct attributes defined. However (even with Governance to say not to) it is possible that users will till try and create docs from scratch and put them in the libraries.
I am trying to minimise user input when adding a doc to a library.
Q3: Are libraries the right way to go (remember users are familiar with existing taxonomy and folder structure).
Q4. Is there a rule of thumb as to the number of libraries on a team site?
Q5. IS there a max capacity for a library?
Q6 Can permissions/restrictions be applied at library level.
Q7. Can a library be made accessible to another team site?  Ie can a library be ‘shared’ across team sites?
Q8. Can the action of dropping a doc into a folder trigger a basic workflow?
I know there are a lot of questions – I am researching this topic but thought there may be people who have experience and could give some advice. Any help is really apprecited.
    Thank you.
    Adam

Q1: OOTB No: not directly.  If you configure requried fields for a document folder, the problem is, the file gets uploaded first, and then the user is prompted to configure metadata - if the user clicks Cancel at this point, the file is already uploaded
but without the required fields configured.  Additionally, the file will be "Checked Out" and not visible to anyone yet, because no previous version exists to display.  On the other hand, you can create a drop point where a file is initially
uploaded, and then have a workflow check the file: if it has the appropriate fields completed, the workflow copies the file to the appropriate folder.
Q2: kind of: you can configure default values for required fields, and when the user is prompted to configure metadata for the file (now already uploaded at this point), the default values will prepopulate the metadata fields and the user need only click
Save.  On the other hand, you can create a workflow that configures these fields for you, after a new file is added to the library.
Q3: yes: use document libraries.  think of document libraries as a convenient security container: all documents entered into the library inherit the security configuration of the library.  Best practice is not to use document libraries to recreate
the folder structure you see physcally on your computer or network by implementing folders within a document library.  Rather, separate out documents by the security that they should have and push these into a document folder.  Then, if there is
further grouping that you want to do for these documents, us the convenient grouping, filter and view tools available for each library to create the grouping and views onto the library that your users need.  By keeping the library simple in this way,
you realize several key benefits.  1. Users can quickly sort and find documents based upon metadata: if documents are further grouped using subfolders, this will not work, and users must click more things to get to the documents they actually want. 2. By
keeping the actual document structure in the library linear (ie, no using subfolders), you can create views that enable one-click access to key document sets of interest to your users.  3.  By using linear organization (ie, no subfolders), you can
implement analytics on the library, by configuring column counts and other features; and you can much more easily implement more sophsiticated analytics using PowerShell.
Q4: no. There are no rules as to the number of document libraries
at a site. Rather, the number and type of such libraries should match your business needs and logicall organization of your documents. There are however, best practices and technical thresholds to be mindful of when considering the the
number of documents to have in each library. There are performance considerations to keep in mind and there are technical thresholds regarding the ability of views and quieries on libraries dependent
on the number of items in the library.  Check out
Plan document libraries in SharePoint 2013 and
Software boundaries and limits for SharePoint 2013 for additional details.
    Q5: see links above.
Q6: yes.  Doing so requires that you "disinherit" the library permissions from the parent site.  this is easy and straightforward, but does add an additional management task to permissions management for the site. For eaxmple, a site
having five document libraries all haveing unique permissions now has six permissions management administration tasks that need to be looked after: one for the site and one each for the document libraries.
Q7: Yes, so long as it is in the same web application - security and user groups are application at the web application level - sites and objects in a different web applicatin will be configured under different security groups.  Now, if these sites
are in different web applications or even different farms, but are in the same AD domain, not a problem: just ensure that the same AD user groups are used for both.  otherwise, you will need to work with your NOC to have trust relationships and so on
    setup.
Q8: yes: the new item event is triggered.  Workflows can be triggered OOTB on new and modified events.

  • Map SharePoint Libraries in intranet not on Internet. Is it possible in SharePoint 2013?

    Link - http://www.trustsharepoint.com/2013/08/disabling-windows-explorer-view-in.html
    Method #1
Administrators can disable access to the Windows Explorer view by modifying the “User Permissions” on the web application. This is done within Central Administration
    Method #2
I have found that simply removing the “Open in Explorer” button all together from the SharePoint ribbon can
be an effective way to prevent access through the Explorer view. There is a good blog post here on how to accomplish this here.
    Method #3
A third method that is effective and allows you to still maintain client object model access and access through
the Microsoft Office open dialog is the following procedure which modifies the permissions required to access the Open in Explorer button. This procedure will result in the “Open in Explorer” button in the SharePoint web interface to still be visible and enabled,
but to only be accessible by users that have the “ManageWeb” permission on the site.
    Method #4
A 4th and probably more extreme method is to in fact disable WebDAV itself on the IIS Web Server.

  • Show List/Libraries with heading dynamically in SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I want to show the all the list under List label and all libraries under libraries in quick launch as in SharePoint 2010.
I want to achieve this in SharePoint 2013. So the list /libraries should dynamically added to the corresponding group.
Please help how to do this.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thank you

    Hi Aditi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to show lists/libraries under the Lists/Libraries label in Quick Launch in SharePoint 2013.
Per my knowledge, there is no OOB way to automatically add the lists/libraries under the Lists/Libraries label in Quick Launch except manually editing the links in the Quick Launch as Sapara suggested.
If you don’t want to manually add the links, I recommend to use PowerShell to add the links in the Quick Launch.
Here is a blog about using PowerShell to add and remove items in the Quick Launch menu on a SharePoint 2013 site for you to refer:

  • Ellipse not working in few document libraries in SharePoint 2013

I have few document libraries with 500+ documents.
I am not able to edit the properties using ellipse.
I tried on all browsers and on all version.
It is working for other document libraries

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got an error when click on ellipsis then "Edit Properties" in a Document library.
I tried to reproduce the issue, every documents in my environment worked well.
As you has said that It is working for other document libraries, you can create a new document library with the same "parameters" and then transfer
the documents into it, then check whether it works, maybe the current library has been corrupted.
You can also check the ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

  • Managing Office documents (content & permission) inside SharePoint 2013 document libraries

I have a document library inside my SharePoint 2013 publishing site collection. And I have the following scenario:-
Someone add a word document to the document library,
I can click on the word document inside the document library, and it will open inside my word client application:-
Then I can click on “Edit document” button inside the word document.
    Do some modifications.
    Click on “Save” button.
And the changes will be saved to the sharepoint document library (which is great).
But I have the following questions:-
Who can basically edit the word document and publish the edit to the SharePoint again? is this restricted to only users who have “edit” permissions on the document library,?
Can I specify that only me or certain users can edit specific documents?
If I open the word document using Firefox or chrome , I will not be able to edit the document and publish it back to SharePoint? So is this feature within IE only ?
    Can anyone advice please?
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you have some questions about the documents in library.
For the first question: yes, only the user that has more than edit permission can edit/publish the documents.
For the second: we can set item level permission for libray using PowerShell to restrict only the created user can create and edit the items.
    http://www.hersheytech.com/Blog/SharePoint/tabid/197/entryid/28/Default.aspx
For the third question: we can install the
IE-Tab in the Chrome or Firefox to support opening the documents directly.

  • Webpart Install - Very Disappointed with Sharepoint 2013

I have tried various ways to install various webparts with no success:
Using STSADM Solution Deployment - which is also being deprecated in Sharepoint 2013
    Also tried Powershell
Central Administration Interface - deploying solution from there
Sharepoint Interface (uploading solution and then Webpart)
All of these methods stop at the deployment stage. I see a message that the Webpart has been added but Install-SPFeature doesn't work and the Webpart is not visible in 'Site Collection Features' to activate.
I receive an error when trying to run the 'Install-SPFeature' command: "the feature is not a farm level feature"
Then I opened VisualStudio to modify the Webpart to Farm Level scope (ridiculous!) and finally when I try to deploy and
    STILL does not work!!!
I have 2 books from Microsoft on Sharepoint Administration - these do not help at all. This is terrible and I don't know how Microsoft is still the standard enterprise solution for content management systems.
Can anyone please help on this issue?

Hi Daniel - I didn't see your answers as I hadn't enabled 'Alerts' yet.
Yes, I attempted to deploy the webpart using Visual Studio. It turns out the issue was related to having 2 servers related to one farm. Adding an alias that both servers point to helped solve this. I was able to deploy the webparts (Nivo Slider and MultiTab)
    - however, the webparts themselves from:
Listed my 10 plus free Web Parts for SharePoint 2013 and 2010 in Codeplex and listly
do not work. The jquery libraries were not created in the correct places. I also tried both of these ways of loading the jquery libraries and they did not work.
Choose SPServices vs. the Client Side Object Model (CSOM)
I have resorted to adding the jquery script on page directly and loading it from a CDN.

  • SharePoint 2013 Labeling deprectaed

the “Label” in “Information management policy settings” for Document to show the document version inside the office documents with “{Version}”.
In my environment, I do this test and the result is that the version in the document library can be shown inside the word document.
I recommend that you can follow the steps as below to configure both the document library and your word document.
To configure the Document Library in SharePoint 2013:
      1.  Go to the document library, click on the “Library Settings”, click on the “Versioning settings” and make sure that you have checked the “Create major versions” or “Create major and minor (draft) versions”.
      2.  Go back to the “Library Settings”, click on the “Information management policy settings”, click on the “Document” content type, check the “Enable Labels” box, but don't check either of the other two boxes in that section.
      3.  Type {Version} into the “Label format” box, click on the “Refresh” button to see a preview of your version label like {_UIVersionString}, and click on the “OK” button.
    To configure your Word Document:
      1.  Either create a new document or upload one in the document library, open the document and edit it,
put the cursor wherever you want the version label to appear.
      2.  Go to the “Insert” tab, click on the “Explore Quick Parts” button in the “Text” section, find the “Document Property” and select the “Label”.
      3.  The version label will show up with the corresponding number in the word document, save the changes of the word document.
Then, you can close the word document and reopen it. The updated version will automatically appear where you put the version label.
The result is shown as below:
