Slide Not Fully Rendering (Captivate 5)

This is post just documents the work-around I came up with to solve a quirky problem.
One slide in the middle of a 90-slide presentation refused to render fully when viewed in a browser. The slide's background was a Microsoft Word screenshot, and the foreground had a caption and two click boxes. There was also an audio track, and everything was set to start at 0 seconds. No transitions were set on the slide or any of the objects.
When this slide was viewed in a browser window, the background appeared and the two click boxes were live, but the caption did not appear and the audio did not play. Altering the order of the layers had no effect. I copied the slide to a different location in the presentation and the copy rendered correctly there, but at slide position 58, it refused to behave.
Slide 58 also rendered correctly if I published the presentation as an exe file and viewed it that way.
The work-around that resolved the problem was just to insert a blank 0.1 second slide immediately before slide 58, which is now slide 59 and works correctly.
I hope this information saves somebody else some wasted hours sometime!

  • Ppt slide not fully loading

Hi, I've uploaded a ppt presentation to captivate and for the most part, all is good. There is one slide that did not fully load, though. It's just a simple bullet point slide - a title and then 4 bullet points, but only 2 load. I've tried re-loading it. I've recreated the slide and saved it as another file and tried importing it that way... Still only 2 bullets points load. Any suggestions?? I'm using captivate 6 and ppt 2010.
    Thanks!
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa
Does that slide operate normally in PPT? Or does it require you to click to make the bullets appear?
When you import from PPT to Captivate, each slide is converted to a SWF and set as the background. If your slide has bullets that appear on click, they will behave in a similar manner once the slide has been converted into Captivate.

  • VTML-Tags for text-to-speech do not work in Captivate 6 - are they working in Cap. 7 again?

I had a hart time to find out, that the functionality was "forgotten" to be programmed in the version 6.
Together with Neospeech I worked long to make single voices work in full functionality and it cost additional licence fee... unfortunately the voices sound tinny so I cannot really use them...and due to different time zones it is hard to find the error together with Neospeech
Now I see that Captivate 7 is available.
Is there already qualified info if the vtml tags work again like they did in older versions?
Adobe Support hotline was NO HELP at all, very unfriendly... only idea was, that I should get the test version and find out myself, pretty impertinent.

    Hi
You might already know this, but stating it here to rule out the simple failure cases.
I have had a similar problem in the past using VTML tags inside Captivate. I used to type the slidenotes in my favorite editor and then copy paste the text from there to the slidenotes panel of Captivate. Turns out that my editor was using Unicode and hence the entire text pasted into Captivate slidenotes became unicode text, including the VTML markers. Though the pasted text "looked" fine the markers were messed up (for example, the double quotes around the value attributes looked like double quotes but they were actually multibyte unicode sequences) and this confused Neospeech. The output audio would be funny (for example it would read "Less Than...V...T...M...L...") or NeoSpeech will crash taking down Captivate along with it.
The fix was quite simple. I started typing the slide notes from within Captivate slide notes panel and everything worked fine after that. Alternately I could type in my favorite editor (after making sure that it is operating in Plain text mode) and then copy paste work flow also worked fine.
Another common mistake (at least, I do that often) is to select the speech agent from the drop down at the top of the dialog and forgetting to choose the speech agents for individual slide notes, which may still be referring to a non-neo-speech agent which does not understand the VTML tags.
No other software tool was required like the German Adobe Support team may have mentioned. I am using Captivate 7.

  • Special cursor are not captured in Captivate 6

We try to create software simulation of Russian analog of AutoCAD, named KOMPAS-3D.
In this program we are working with CAD drawings. And then in this software we are moving mouse over some objects of drawing like line or circle (or section in 3d drawing) - cursor are changing to special cursor symbol.
Important –> in this case cursor are changing not after mouse click. He changing with event mouseover.
But then we try to capture work with  drawing in KOMPAS-3D – this special cursor symbols are not captured.
We try to use AC 6 for this screen capturing  and can’t capture our special cursor symbols.
But in AC 5.5 – its work fine!
    Help us please!

  • Is there anyway to publish each slide build in Captivate 5.5 to a word doc with slide notes?

I am looking for a way to print out my slides in a word document so that my copy editor can not only read my slide notes, but also view what is on my slide making sure there are not any errors. When I build my slides, I stack images up with things fading in and out enabling me to record audio for only one slide as opposed to each build. However when I publish to the handouts, my copy editor receives a slide with a lot of things built up on it and she can not see everthing that is on the slide (only what's on top). Does anyone have any advice or information they can give me relating to publising to handouts or storyboarding so that each slide build is seen?
Thank you in advance! I appreciate any help on this!

Captivate's handouts work in much the same way as PPT handouts.  If you had a lot of objects and animation on a single PPT slide it wouldn't look much different to a Captivate slide.
One good thing about Captivate though is that if you hide objects on the timeline for a given slide, the way that slide looks in Edit mode is pretty much what it will look like in the Handout doc graphic.  With judicious hiding of extraneous objects your slide printout won't look too bad.  The reviewers should at this stage mostly be just looking at the voiceover script anyway.  The NEXT stage of the review cycle would be to check the animation and syncing with the approved voiceover.
There's no way you can give your reviewer a Word doc straight out of Captivate that will show how you've animated the objects (fade ins and fade outs or effects etc).  If it's essential tey see this in action then consider sending them a PDF output from the project with TTS speech from the voiceover script and objects roughly synced to the TTS.  I don't see any point wasting too much time on getting everything synced perfectly at this stage because reviewers are just as likely to change a lot of the voiceover and render a lot of work useless.  But some reviewers have no imagination and can't get an idea of how the elearning will turn out until they see it almost finished.  Managers are the most likely to be like this.  And the higher up in management they are, the less imagination they have.

  • Adobe Captivate Help | Slide notes

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/slide-notes.html

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums!
1.You can download Neo Speech voices from here:
    Windows 32-bit: http://www.adobe.com/go/captivate6_voices_installer
    Windows 64-bit: http://www.adobe.com/go/captivate_voices_installer_win64
    2. After the Downloading is completed, you have to extract that .zip file to the same location. That will have one payloads folder and AdobePatchinstaller.exe, Double click on AdobePatchinstaller.exe to start the installation.
    3. While installing it will start the Adobe Application Manager to Update Captivate.
    Please reply if that helps.
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 not able to add Slide Notes

Having an issue with Adobe Captivate 6 with adding Slide Notes.
I can add them via Window>Slide Notes, but we cannot add them via clicking on the Properties tab of a slide then clicking on "Add Audio..." then clicking on the bottom "Captions & Slide Notes...".  It will not let us add any Slide notes at this point.
Please advise, as teammates are sure they used this second version in the past successfully.
    Thank you.........

    Thank you for the reply.
The notes are just notes to the developer, so they don't have to sync with the audio.
Nonetheless, what do you mean by "Make sure your audio file is selected..."?
I went into my TIMELINE and clicked on the audio which opened the "Slide Audio" screen, then clicked on "Captions & Slide Notes..." and the Slide notes/Captions tabs show, but I cannot type anything into either of these areas......
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks again

  • Opening Captivate 4 project in 5 adds to slide notes, read by TTS

I have a project that was started in Captivate 4, and when I open it in Captivate 5, it does the conversion and introduces
in the slide notes which the TTS speech egnine reads.
First, any ideas on why this would be happening, how to prevent it?
Second, is there a way to do a seach and replace within the slide notes? The regular Find and Replace dialog doesn't show a Search In option for notes.

    all,
I actually found the answer to my own question, in a way.
One of my projects apparently was corrupt an it was causing the issue with the disappearing notes. However, after rebooting my computer, clearing the Adobe Captivate Cached Projects, I opened a different project in Adobe Captivate 5, and all the notes were in place. After a while, I figured that as long as I don't open the corrupt file, my notes remain in place. I had to recreate the corrupt file though and save it with a different name.
I also noticed that the files are more likely to get corrupted if they are long (over 70-80 slides long) or if they have a lot of animations (really a lot).
As for the people using Captivate 3.... You may be used to Captivate 3 and it may be hard to switch software, but Captivate 5 is a lot more powerful and has a lot less issues than Captivate 3 ever did. I would reconsider, if I were you...
Sometimes, simply republishing a project helps...
If the "stop" button is a problem, I'd copy all the slides (in the source file) to a fresh new project, except for the one with the stop button; and then I would try to recreate the button that causes the issue, save and republish the new project.

  • Captivate Displays Wrong Slide Note

I’ve been experimenting as to why Captivate slide notes
sometimes seem to change at random. Since I use the notes to hold
audio transcriptions, it was a nasty surprise to find lots of them
overwritten with notes from other slides. It seems that both
Captivate versions 2 and 3 mishandle slide notes when you switch to
Branching view with a slide other than slide 1 selected, though V3
is somewhat better behaved. If this is old news – I’m
two weeks with Captivate and still in the steep part of the
learning curve – then I plead being a newbie.
I’ve considered two workarounds: putting the notes into
closed captions – which aren’t affected by this but are
hard to see at a glance unless I export them to Word – or
always remembering to select slide 1 in Storyboard before jumping
    to Branching.
I assume that this isn’t restricted to my two
pc’s (both WinXP SR2) and may help explain several posts
describing slide notes being changed. So, has anyone else found
additional explanations for why slide notes are unstable? Better
yet, does anyone know of a fix? This always remembering business
seems most unlikely – for me at least.
Here are the details of what I’ve discovered so far.
Captivate V2 – selecting a slide other than slide 1 in
Storyboard view and then switching to Branching view overwrites the
selected slide’s note with slide 1’s note. If the
selection contains more than one slide, the highest numbered slide
in the selection is overwritten. If slide 1 doesn’t have a
note, the “click to add notes for the selected slide”
message is displayed as the note for the selected slide. If you do
not click in the note, the note remains intact. If you do click,
the note is overwritten. So, beware of jumping between Storyboard
to rearrange slides and Branching to edit paths because
you’ll probably trash your notes. That’s how I wrecked
    havoc.
Captivate V3 trial version – selecting a slide other
than slide 1 in Storyboard or Edit view then switching to Branching
view improperly displays the selected slide’s note (you see
slide 1’s note) but does not overwrite the selected
slide’s note. However if you edit the improperly displayed
note in Branching view, the original note is overwritten. So, in V3
leaving the notes box collapsed will probably prevent problems
since you won’t notice the error and inadvertently make it
permanent. Seems like a reason to upgrade, even though it’s a
bit thin, being the lesser of two evils.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro - Flash Pro: Menu's and window selection panes do not fully render, or are misaligned. Same with the stage

This bug makes the program virtually unusable for anyone using Windows 8.1.  I have a dual screen setup : 1920 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 on the other, AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series drivers (Latest versions), running on a Windows 8.1 Pro OS.  When you attempt to view the various menu option panes, the windows themselves are not rendering fully, or you are hidden.  Also the stage is shifted as well to the lower right, making the program almost unusable. I have tested this on a Mac, as well as on a windows 7 machine and this does not occur there.  So it appears to be only within a Windows 8.1 Pro machine.   I have attached screen shots of what I am seeing.  Notice in the first image, we are looking at the new document pane. You cannot see the options fully and they are shifted to the right out of view.  The next image shows both the stage, shifted right, as well as the Document Pane.  The options are not fully visible, and clipped off.  The window itself is not re-sizable.  I have cleared the appdata, and re-installed the program. Same result.  I attempted to troubleshoot this via chat, however your network kept losing connection. Please let me know if anyone is suffering from this, and any resolution. Thanks!

Thank you sir!  The scaling was the issue, and the solution.  By clicking on settings->Screen Resolution-> Text and Font link ->  It was defaulted to 125%. For anyone else who has this issue, set it to 100% and it will resolve these issues.
    Thanks again! Back to development

  • Multiple text boxes on slide not advancing properly

First let me say that this is my very first post - ever - anywhere.  I don't even know if I'm 'posting' correctly, so please forgive me if I'm doing this wrong.  I am brand new to Captivate (1 week), but am already under a work deadline to produce a CBL.  I have built a very simple CBL and it works fine except for 1 problem.  My CBL moves forward on its own, but if the user decides to click the 'forward' button on the navigation bar, it advances to the next slide instead of displaying the next text box within the current slide.  I want to keep the navigation bar for those who read more quickly than others, this way they can advance the CBL at their own pace.  For example, I have a slide with 3 text boxes.  Each text box needs to be read in order.  The first box appears and after so many seconds the first box disappears and the second box appears.  Then the second box stays for so many seconds and disappears and the third box appears for so many seconds and then it advances to the next slide.  However, after it's published, the first box appears and if you click the 'forward' button then it goes to the next slide (not the second text box on the current slide).  I know there must be an easy solution to this and if I had the time to read more tutorials before my deadline, I'm sure it's listed in one of them.  I would appreciate any help you can give me and again, I apologize if I've posted this in the wrong section or did not post this correctly.  Thanks so much!

    Hello,
    Welcome on the forum.
The Next button on the playbar will always go to the next slide (or the previous slide for the Previous button).
If you really want a simple solution: put only one Text Caption per slide, time the slide for the duration of reading that Text Caption. To simulate your present situation, if you have 3 Text captions, put the first one on slide 1, copy it to slide 2 and add the second Text caption, etc. The 'quick' readers can use the button on the playbar to advance but they will be able to see all the Text Captions. Do hope this explanation makes sense: you are really splitting up your unique slide with 3 Text Captions in 3 slides.

  • Working with slide notes as audio script

In Captivate v4 if you had more than a few lines of notes that you were to use as your script, you could "detach" the notes and expand the screen prior to starting your audio recording in order to see on one page all notes from which you based your audio.
I have yet to start any major recording in Captivate v5.5, but from what I see so far - the above option does not exist. It looks as if you get a scroll bar which you must use to see your script once you get to the bottom of the initial available notes screen.
    Are there any workarounds ?
I would much prefer to see the full script from the start and not have to scroll down during my recording - with the added risk of my mike picking up the mouse clicks.
    Noel

If you want to use the Slide Notes panel detached, you can just grab it by the tab and drag it off as a floating panel.  However, when you open the Slide Audio dialog, you'll find that the Slide Notes panel cannot be made to sit on top of it.
My preference is to dock the Slide Notes on the right side of the screen, and just sit the Slide Audio to the left of it so that I can read my voiceover script as well as control the Slide recording.

  • HTML5 Courses still not fully compatible on iPad or iPhone

    Hi,
I've created several courses in Captivate 7, and using the HTML5 tracker, I've made sure all the elements in the courses are HTML5 supported. After publishing the courses and putting them in the LMS, I've tried using them on my iPhone and iPad, and I keep getting a warning message (all the courses work fine on my Mac). The message says:
"This course is not fully compatible with your current device. You may encounter problems with some lessons."
I can open the courses fine, and can navigate through them, but I'm not sure what parts are not compatible. I found one video that's not working, and it seems that the quiz questions aren't working. Otherwise, they seem to be functioning fine.
Any ideas or insight would be appreciated!

Can you tell me what the "ini" file is? The warning seems legitimate because the quiz questions aren't working on the iPad or the iPhone. So it seems like more than an automatic error message.

  • Power point slides not showing

I have a rather odd problem. I've got a lengthy pdf which I converted to jpg's. I pasted those jpg's into power point into and then imported the pptx into Captivate 6. All the slides import but only the first 2 jpg's are visible. All of the other slides are blank. I know there's an easier way to do it, by converting the pdf to a pptx, and then import to captivate, but the pdf is mostly text and the text gets jumbled during the conversion. I'm just curious as to why the jpg's are not coming into captivate. And btw, I've also tried it using png's.

If you already have JPG images, why not simply use Captivate's ability to create a Slide Show and just create a project and point at the images?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why can't I see or edit my slide notes?

I'm probably making a silly mistake as a new user of captivate 6.  Whether I start a new presentation, or import a PPT which already inclused slide notes, I can't see any notes in captivate.  the slide notes box is there but the icons (eg the + incon) are not displyed, and in the windown menu whilst the slide notes option is not greyed out clicking it has no effect - no tisck appears besides it and the slie notes box doesn't change
    any ideas??

    Hi,
If you Click on -- Slide Notes box under the Window, it does not open the Slide notes pod for you, you workspace might have some problems.
Can you check resetting it --
Try importing that presentation to a New Blank Project and Check Slide Notes-- from Windows.
Note-- Make sure the Slide is in focus (selected) which you go to Slide Notes pod to check the Slide notes for that.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai
