Slide scanning problem

Hi all.
I have a slide talk which I have given many, many times. I bought iWork so that I could digitize it. I apologize for being off topic here, but some of the slides come out beautifully and some are amazingly washed out. The slides themselves don't look all that bad, in fact some of these look quite nice.
Any ideas on how to correct this washing out of some images?
Underlying this problem is that I will never be able to replace many of these images, so I have to make these slides work.
Again, sorry for being off topic...but it's kind of related, I hope.
I'm using a Cannon 8400f scanner and Photoshop elements.
Thanks!

Are you paying close attention to make sure you're color-correcting all of your images the same way? The first thing I'd do is take two of the images that show the widest range of quality and go through your steps again to make sure that some color setting isn't throwing you off.

  • HP photosmart 7180 slide scan problem

After updating to Snow Leopard, the Photosmart c7180 printer works fine and the scanner works fine on documents and photos.  When I try to scan a slide or negative, the scanner zips VERY FAST to about 1/3 of the scanner area and stops.  An error message appears on the printer screen "unable to scan, copy or fax".  When I cancel on the printer panel, a new message appears saying "analyzing film".  The computer screen continuously shows the message "preparing to scan".  I have let it sit this way up to 5 minutes and nothing happens.  Everything locks up and the only way I can get out is to turn the printer off.
I have uninstalled the HP printer software a couple of times and downloaded and reinstalled software from both HP and the Apple site, including doing a software update on each one.  None of that has cured the problem.
Anything else I can try to eliminate this problem?

  • HP 6500 AIO printer scanning problems.

I recently upgraded my Mac OSX software to Snow Leopard. Now the scanner part of my HP printer no longer works. I'VE SCANNED MANY TIMES PREVIOUSLY. I tried to scan today and got messages to the effect, no scanner options, scanner was not connected to the computer, scanner not found, no scanner selected; the scanner is not initialized...
I've done the following: tried to get help from HP- they said as long as my driver sw was up to date (which it is) i should contact Apple.  I  tried to add the scanner - didn't work; setup printer again - didn't work; setup profile for scanner - didn't work; read thru scanner help topics on apple support - didn't help.   What's going on and how do i fix it?
    thx.

It doesn't install a driver version 2.7. It does in fact install for your printer driver 3.1.1. In as much as you already have that driver installed there is some other reason why you are having issues. Contact HP to resolve the scanning problem.
There is third party scanning software which is much better than HP's. Check compatibily with VueScan.

  • Printing/Scanning Problem with HP All-In-One

As you will see, I am a bit confused as to how my Mac is talking to my HP all in one. I am having printing and scanning problems. When I try to print, nothing happens. I go to print status and the print job is there but the printer is not printing. I try pausing, deleting and trying to print again, hold to no avail. It recognizes the job, it just won't print.
Scanning is similar. Most of the time I end up with an error message "The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device". It directs me to restart the program, close all programs, re-boot the computer. I have done all of these and no go. In addition, no other programs are running at the time.
As far as my computer recognizing the HP, it does in both wifi and bluetooth. I have made it my default printer.
I have a time capsule as a router and everything is set up properly for it. Four bars are shown indicating it is acting properly. Both it and bluetooth are turned on. The HP status lights are on for both wifi and bluetooth.
I have checked with HP and Apple Support and could not find anything that addresses my issue. Please help!!
    Thanks

I had a similar problem awhile back with my HP F2210 all-in-one. I basically re-downloaded all of the software for the printer from HPs site. Before re-installing, I did a safe boot. Then, I reinstalled and restarted and all was well. When software update told me there was a new driver available, I installed it and things still worked. I'm able to print, scan, and all the printer is supposed to do without a hitch.

  • Scanning problem with HP Photosmart C6180

Since the upgrade to 10.6 my HP C6180 multifunction printer is not working as a scanner from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
I select from the acrobat menu:
    File
    CreatePDF
    From Scanner
in the "acrobat scan" window Scanner: shows "Please select a device" but there is nothing in the drop down list!
This means that i can not scan a document to PDF from within Adobe Acrobat pro. I can scan through preview but preview does not provide the same features that Acrobat Pro does.
Any Ideas? I have re-installed the adobe software but no joy...

Had scanning problem after uploading Snow Leopard -
    This will fix your problem!
Scanning with the software included in Mac OS X 10.6
New with Snow Leopard, the Scanning interface to these HP Inkjet All-in-One devices is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. There are three ways to perform scanning from your HP All-in-One:
    Preview program
    Image Capture program
System Preferences > Print & Fax
Important: After you open the scan interface, it is important to select the correct mode ( Flatbed or Document Feeder ) for the source of the scan image. Your HP All-in-One may have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) or a flatbed lid. By default, Document Feeder will be the automatically selected Mode for any devices that have an ADF. You must select Flatbed if you want to scan directly from the glass flatbed and not the Document Feeder.
For more information about Scanning and Image Capture, open the Help menu from Mac OS X 10.6 and type in your question.
Method one: Scan from the Preview application
Click the Apple Preview icon in the dock to open the Preview application.
From the Preview File pull-down menu, choose Import from Scanner .
Choose the HP Photosmart, Officejet, or Deskjet All-in-One.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method two: Scan from the Image Capture application
In the Applications folder, select and open Image Capture .
In the list of devices on the left, click your HP All-in-One.
Networked devices appear in the Shared list.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Method three: Scan from Print & Fax > Printer browser
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences .
    Click Print & Fax .
In the list of printers on the left side of the dialog, select the HP All-in-One to view the options in the Print & Fax window.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
    The Printer Browser window appears.
Click the Scan icon at top right of the toolbar to launch scanning.
The scan interface opens. Click Show Details to view settings and options.
Important Gotcha: If the Scan or Print icons do not appear in the Printer Browser window toolbar, you need to delete the current HP printer queue and add a new one, as follows:
Close the Printer Browser window to return to the Print & Fax preference pane. Or, go directly to the System Preferences > Print & Fax pane.
Select your HP printer in the list on the left.
Click the - sign at the bottom of the list to delete the product from the list.
Click the + sign at the bottom of the list to add the product back to the list.
Select your HP printer, and then click Add to create a new print queue.
The next time you open the Printer Browser window, the Print and Scan icons should appear in the toolbar, providing access to Image Capture.

I have an old back-up computer running Widows XP in conjunction with an HP 5200C scanner.  I have the slide scan attachment for the scanner but can't get it to work.   I no longer have any of the operating instructions.
What do I need to do?

    Oh ok got ya.
You must be using one of these shown in this review.
    http://www.andromeda.com/people/ddyer/photo/slide-transfer.html
Those are a rare piece of equipment. No, there are no instructions on the net for the prism attachment. Very frustrating HP. I heard they were ok but not that great actually.
So you are asking how to place the slide in the prism and use it, correct?
The only instructions I can find are for a homemade version that works under the same principle.
The key is to place the slide in the center of the scanner but position the slide to one end of the prism so I can get as much light as it can to reflect back into the film.
Look at the example on this web page for the homemade version. The principle should be the same.
    http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com/essays/scanning/Backlighter2.html
If this is what you are asking, then this should work.

    Hello,
I think you answered the question yourself. You upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and now the scanner isn't working as it should.
You need to update the Brother drivers. Go to their web site, download and install the software, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
Since you are trying to scan into Adobe software, there might be a TWAIN driver necessary to update.

  • D-110 Slide Scanning

I have a D-110.  Can I scan and digitize 35mm slides ?  If so, do I need any other accessories ?

    Hi cgn200,
RE: Slide scanning, take a look at this article:
    http://www.hp.com/canada/portal/hho/digital_photography/organize_archive_photos/tips/scanning_slides...
Note: you need a photo scanner with built-in negative and slide scanning ability
You would need a product specifically designed for this purpose, as a standard scanner won't be able to produce satisfactory resutls. The products recommended by the article are the
    HP Scanjet G3110
    HP Scanjet G4010
    HP Scanjet G4050
    Hope this helps!

  • Convert slide scan files to .dng?

We are scanning masses of old slide scans and bringing them into Lightroom as .tiffs.  Recently I was told that if I convert those .tiff files to .dng that would enhance developing operations in the Develop module and almost simulate working with a RAW file.
Does anyone have any experience with this process?  And any opinion about it?

The only advantage of DNG over a TIFF is its ability to retain the full RAW capture of a photographic sensor. A scanner works differently, some have a pseudo RAW format...Nikon scanners can do this scanning to the NEF format. But if you have scanned as a TIFF keep the original as a TIFF LR's functionality will be the same with a DNG made from a TIFF and the original TIFF. Whoever is telling you taht you can magically gain information by converting file types is misleading you and DNG compression (whilst the best for RAW formats, isn't any better than TIFF's so the file size remains the same as does the ability to write xmp metadata to the file (rather than as a sidecar file. In brief converting anything other than an original RAW file to the DNG format is just a waste of time.

  • Looking for Pixma plus 35mm slide scanning!

    Hello.
I used to have a Canon Pixma printer with a 35mm scanning facility built in to the lid. Broke down some time ago, unfortunately.
And now Canon don't do Pixma printers with 35mm scanning.
Been scouring the internet for an MG8250 or equivalent, with no luck. I don't WANT to change from Pixma. I think it's possibly the best colour print system you can buy, but I do need that 35mm slide scanning facility, so any suggestions as to an alternative product, i.e. a good quality colour printer (plus copier plus flatbed scanner plus 35mm slide scanner), offering similar print quality as the Pixma?
I suppose one alternative is to buy a stand-alone 35mm neg scanner, but I also have a number of ancient (1890s) large b&w negatives so a 35mm-only carrier wouldn't do - I need something where I can use bits of tape etc. to hold odd-sized films.
Thanks for reading, and I hope someone has a suggestion or two.
    Allen.

Aside from looking at the pretty transitions, did you read
    the rest of the
page? See the part where it says "Step 1 - copy and
    paste....."
Then do Step 2. It just can't get any easier than that.
Read the bit underneath step 2 and it tells you how the
    script can be used
multiple times on a page - Again - step 1: you give it a new
    name in the
javascript file, and add the names and paths of the images
    for the
consecutive slides you wish to display. Then, again, Step 2 -
    you call the
    slideshow somewhere on your page.
Without sounding condescending, sit back, read the
    instructions again, and
have a go at implementing them into your page.
Upload your efforts, post a link to the page, and we'll be
    able to help you
    further if you need it.
You can describe what you have, how you want it to work, but
    until we see a
page live, its a bit hard to help further.
Last resort, spring for a paid solution to do it all for you
    (which I highly
    recommend) -

My HP C6280 developed a scanning problem today.  I can still scan but everything goes to HP Photostart 3.5.  I no longer can designate where I want to scans to go and what name to give them.  I do not want to use HP Photostart 3.5.  I also cannot open my desk top pictures now.  I get a "Attempt to Access Invalid Address."  The pictures used to open automatically with Photoshop.  Now I have to hunt for a program to open the pictures.  Also I get "HP Cue--scanning flow component has stopped working.  I use Windows 7 and have made no changes to my computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @dgn4,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are having a scanning issue with your HP Photosmart c6280 on Windows 7. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to look into this for you!
I would recommend using our HP Print and Scan Doctor, sometimes this program can fix issues automatically for you!
I would also recommend this how to scan guide, How to Scan: Windows 7, as it has alternate methods of scanning as well.
Hope this helps, and have a great day!

  • Kodak 5252 scanning problems

does anybody have scanning problems after upgrading to Lion? My kodak all in one 5250 refuses to scan. Wifi is on, printing is working, it's just the scanning function that has given up. Any suggestions would be more then welcome. Chatted with kodak support but they are useless... I have the latest driver 6.2 but still does not work...

Thank you so much. I did as you said and checked out the drivers. Then it dawned on me that i could try my husbands imac running on Leopard. That one did scan. So I then compared the difference in the printer folder and it turned out that I had some extra plugins in my folder that were not present in the other desktop. They are called PrinterOptionsCombo plugin and USBClassDriver.plugin. I took those two out and bingo, it works. I wished though they had talked me through this at Kodak. I had a feeling that the guy in the chat did not really knew what he was talking about... Anyway, problem solved. Don't know how long it would have taken me to figure this out if I did not have had a second working computer in the house... ;o)))

Please take a looks at the following document; The scanned images are dark
