Slide Show fails to show slide #1, starts on #2

After months of work, we finally got the desktop version of this site signed off. Now we're in the process of copying the entire site to the phone format, which means hours and hours of resizing each individual part of the site.
The Home page is a simple "hero" slideshow, with type and links on each slide. It works beautifully, that is, until it gets moved to the phone site.
Now, instead of beginning the slideshow on slide 1, it starts on slide TWO.  :-(
The only clue we have as to what is apparently wrong are the triggers in Muse.
This is what the triggers look like in Muse on the desktop version:
... and this is what they look like in Muse on the Phone version. Notice the "+" sign is now showing up after the FIRST slide instead of the LAST slide.
We've transferred slide shows from desktop to phone and tablet versions before, and used the exact same procedure. So (1) WHY now, does the "+" sign show up on the FIRST slide instead of the LAST one, and (2) HOW do we move it to the last slide so the FIRST slide will show up when the page is previewed or published?

Never mind, we fixed it. But seriously, what a HASSLE.
The procedure we used to re-order the slides was:
1. Move the first slide (which was now LAST) into last position (by moving the trigger)
2. Make a new blank slide by clicking on the "+" sign
3. Go to the left-most slide by selecting its trigger, select everything manually (piece by piece), cut all selected items, then go to the last slide and paste in position.
4. Go back to the first (now blank) slide, and delete its trigger, which deletes that slide.
-- repeat until all slides except the REAL first slide are moved -- Now the "+" sign is after the last slide in Muse, which is where it SHOULD be, and now the FIRST slide appears FIRST, as it should.
Ugh.
I'd still like to know why this happened in the first place, since we began with the first slide and resized elements successively, one slide at a time, in order. We never rearranged any slides when we copied them all as the composition from the desktop version to the phone version, and we resized each one in order, from first to last.
