Slide Show flexibility.  Is it possible to arrange pictures manually?

iPhoto slideshow seems to fully automate the arranging of pictures into pages of different templates. This is cool as a default, but is there a way to manually rearrange the pictures?
In the scrapbook theme for example there are pages with one picture, other pages have multiple pictures. Is it possible to select which page template is used for each page of the slide show?
Is it possibly to manually select which picture goes in which slot of the template?
Seems like a basic function, but can't seem to find how to do it. If not supported, are there workarounds for this?
Thank you.

I had a quick scan of those comments, and most of those are from more than 18 months ago. The comments from this year are either: factually wrong ("very few slideshow designs" - it has 35 or thereabouts) or complaints about the Upgrade policy.
There is no substitute for downloading and trying it yourself.
Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
Others, in order of price:
PhotoPresenter $29
PhotoToMovie $49.95
PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Customizing iPhoto slide show layout in Scrapbook Theme (photo arrangement)

I have an iPhoto 09 (8.1.2) album with 284 photos and 8 movies. I want to use the iPhoto scrapbook theme in a slideshow project.
Is there a way to customize each scrapbook theme slide in terms of the number of photos it will show on each slide or in terms of any other layout attributes (landscape, portrait, overlay photos, etc.)?
On initial experimentation it appears that the layout is completely random. In fact, each time the theme is switched from classic then back to scrapbook, the layout seems to change.

No, you can't customize the slideshow. You might try a 3rd party slideshow that has a scrapbook type of theme. PhotoPresenter has over 25 animated themes, some of which are scrapbook like (more like a scrapbook flipping pages) that might let you gain more control. This demo page shows 9 of those themes: PhotoPresenter Themes .

  • In using Yahoo email, pictures sent to me cannot be viewed using the slide show feature. I can only download pictures to view them.

The program indicates that images are loading, but they don't. The screen where slides should appear is black.
I had a similar problem with Facebook, and resolved it within my tools box.
However, I can't solve the Yahoo problem.

Oh no... NOT THE 99-PAGER!!! Anything but THAT!!!

  • Often when I click on sites that offer slide show type presntations I only receive partial pictures with about 75% hidden. Dealing with the character encloding in view does not help. How do I fix?

picture but not text is blanked out by about 75%. Dealing with character encoding does not fix the problem.

    Can you attach a screenshot?
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause issues like you described.
    * Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
*Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:
    *Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/

  • How can I arrange the order of pictures in a slide show and add a caption to each?

I go to:www.photoshop.com/users/name. Then to My Gallery and click onto the album name then to "slide show." I want to reorder the pictures and add captions. How?

Go to your photoshop.com website. Log in if needed. Click on "Online Tools."  Choose "Photoshop Express Organizer."  Click and drag photos into the order you want.
Captions might best be added in the Elements Editor Organizer (99jon is correct) by double-clicking on thumbnail to make a full screen image, then a line appears under the photo and asks you to print your caption there. Sync it with your online website.

  • Can I view the photos in my Pictures folder as a slide show

I store my photographs in the Pictures folder (Album?) rather than any other app. I have organised my photos into folders within this main folder. Is there a way to view the photos in a particular folder as a slide show? This was possible in my Windows XP computer. Many thanks in advance.

Select all the images you want in the slideshow and then press option space bar.

  • Video prior to slide show

I would like to have a short video segment play, then go the slide show when I select a slide show. Is this possible in Imovie HD?

    Hi h
iMovie is linar so You might start with a movie then it cont. with still photos
and so on. If You want to select then I think You should use iDVD and put
Your movie as intro menu and in this buttons to Your SlideShows.
The menu is rather restricted (15 min I think) and You will have the buttons
    visibly during it.

  • Slide Show ERROR, Internal software\Vobulator\BlockPlanner\.cpp Line 217

I'm putting together a slide show DVD. There are a total of 7 slide shows containing 480 pictures. All pictures are jpg's about 1000X1600 pixels and 500KB-700KB each. I have 3 menus for navigation. Not all of the chapter menu buttons point to a "slide show", some of them point to a picture inside certain slide shows according to my client's requests. (example, slide show 1 contains 70 pictures. Chapter 1 points to "slide show 1" Chapter 2 points to "slide show 1 photo 50"). All slide shows are linked so that when the first slide show is over, it will automatically "end action" to the next slide show etc... All my settings are typical. NTSC 4:3 SD 720X480 progressive.
There are NO video files in my DVD at all. No timelines at all. No audio at all.
The Symptoms/problem that I'm getting is this, when I try to Preview my DVD and ALSO when I try to build my DVD, the build will go through and "build the slide shows" then after it does that, this will come up
I've read some of the previous posts (one of them is in French for cryin out loud. Had to use Bing translator and it sounds all weird). What I can gather is this,
Re: internal software error: .\Vobulator\BlockPlanner\BlockPlanner.cpp, line 217
I found out it was due to selecting an image file as the video layer
in a menu, causes the error everytime. I just paste the image in with
'edit in photoshop' instead now. But thanks."
Another person said just about the same thing... The only problem is, I have no idea what this means. I don't know what it means to "select an image file as the video layer in a menu..."
    Hardware/software is as follows:
    custom build:
    i5 processor (4 core) 2.6ghz
    8 GB RAM 1333MHz
    300GB C: drive (2X150 GB 10K RPM Raptors)
    1.2TB D: drive (2X7,200 RPM 640GB WD's)
    Burner is LG Super multi
secondary burner is Sony Commercial Blu-Ray burner
Video card is Saphire Build (Radeon 5450 PCI-E 16X)
    Windows 7 X64 Pro
All Adobe is CS5 Production package.
If I'm leaving anything out, please let me know.
HELP! and Thanks. I'd really love to fix this without rebuilding the whole DVD. Take long time.

  • In Mavericks iPhoto slide shows, why do the last pics come first, some pics are upside down, and some vertical pics are horizontal?  How can I fix this?

On my iMac OSX, 10.9.4, Mavericks, I have been trying to view an album as a slide show.  The slide show starts at the end (bottom row picture) instead of the beginning (top 1st picture).  I have gone to View>Sort Photos>Manual.  But the order of Ascending and Descending choices are greyed out with the default check by Ascending.  How can I start at my beginning without rearranging all the photos?  Also, some of the photos are upside down and sideways, even though they are correct in the album.  How can I fix this??   Thank you!  Also, can I include a video in the slide show?  Up to how many seconds/minutes?

Is this a slideshow created directly from an album?
There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks in that slideshows from Albums do not play correctly if they are sorted manually.  Only photos that have been sorted by date, keyword, rating or title will play from albums correctly.
To have a slideshow with photos sorted manually use the slideshow mode in iPhoto.

  • How do  I get an iPhoto slide show onto the web?

    Aloha:
I made a slide show in iPhoto 8.0 with 31 pictures and background music. It works great in iPhoto and I can export it to Quicktime 7.3 and it also works great there. The file size is about 119 megs, so I would like to get it on the web for distribution. However, all exports to the web are grayed out. What are my choices?
    Thanks
    Dan Page

    Dan:
You'll have to use a 3rd party application to reduce the size to a more manageable size. Quicktime Pro can reduce the size. VisualHub is another recommended app. I've been looking at Video2SWF, an application to convert the movie files to flash which are a lot smaller.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • PSE -5, loss in sharpness of pictures when placed in slide show

In PSE-5, when good pictures are transferred from tagged groups to the slide show, there is a significant loss of picture quality despite using "high quality". Is there a way to make the pictures in slide show have the same quality an in the storage areas of Photoshop?

I'm a little confused as to where you tried to delete the slideshow from.
Was it from the actual Project Browser, where all the assets are listed?
Can you try deleting the surplus slideshow from there, and let us know what happens please?

  • Pictures lost in Slide Show

I added pictures from my flash drive into a slide show in Elements 6.0.  I saved the slide show as a project.  Several days later when I opened the project from the Organizer, the slides were black except for the text I had added.  I assume I have lost the link to my pictures although I have not moved the flash drive since I made the slide show.  How can I retrieve my pictures?

The photos have never appeard in Organizer because I imported them from my Flash Drive directly into the slide show.  I have, however, opened,
edited, saved, closed, and reopened the slide show several times and the pictures were in the slide show. Now, all of a sudden, they have disappeared.
I was hoping to avoid saving the pictures in Organizer before adding them to the slide show... must I do that?

  • How can I show the date and time on the pictures in iMovie

I am trying to make a slide show.  The date and time the pictures were taken are the important information that I would like to show in the slide show.  However, I cannot find the way to do that in iMovie.

  • Is it possible to add multiple  songs to a slide show?

    Hi there.
A slide show can be quite long as you all know and the same music continusly repeated can become boring.
Is it possible to add several songs to the slide show to overcome this problem?
    Regards.

One thing you can do to make it all turn out even--think about how long each slide is going to display, say you want about 3 seconds per slide, multiply by the number of slides, say you have 100 slides (I picked those numbers so the arithmetic would be easy!). That's a total of 300 seconds. Divide by 60 seconds per minute to get the number of minutes, in this case that would be 5 minutes. Then when you make your playlist in iTunes find music that fits the mood of the show and that totals a little more than 5 minutes (and is NOT Protected, as Terence mentioned). Back in iPhoto select your Playlist in the Music section and then check the box to have the slideshow fit the music, and iPhoto will adjust the display time so that everything runs the same length of time. Export to iDVD and burn your disk.
Personally, I like to get a little fancier, so I export my slideshow without sound, then open the project in iMovie HD and make a layered soundtrack, where I arrange the music and sound effects, as in this one:
    http://homepage.mac.com/francines/.Movies/kenstr.html
It has the music, plus a coffee gurgle, birds tweeting, page flips and a lion roar at the end. Once it's built you can send it to iDVD at full size and/or, as I did here, make a small streaming web version to share over the Internet. I wrote up a VERY short tutorial on this (notes from a workshop I ran) and put it up here:
    http://pinkmutant.com/smug/psws06/bling.html
Afraid I haven't worked that much with iMovie 08, but I believe you can do something along the same lines.
