Slide show settings

Is there a way to set times for individual photos? I want some to be on screen longer than others.

I like that dialogue box. Unfortunately I only get one 1/3 the size.
Here is what I did wrong. I clicked on some slides and said, make a slide show. I failed to create a sideshow using the proper steps. I didn't know them.
Now I have learned. I have gotten that far. And once, just once I got the whole dialogue box. I have no idea what happened to it since.
On my miniature dialogue box, I click on THIS SLIDE and change the seconds: That slide reacts to the change, but not the full time. Not even close. Also, two or three other slides in the presentation also change to the new time. Not all, just a few.
Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Why can I not check the 'Shuffle images' box in settings of a slide show in iPhoto 9.6? All other settings I can check but this one.

    Hey Brad,
If you are unable to select the shuffle images checkbox, follow the steps in this article -
    iPhoto '11: Change slideshow settings
    Specifically -
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhoto does not retain slide show settings

I'm making a simple slide show using the Ken Burns effect. Some of the transitions work well, but others cut off the tops of heads and titles I imported from another program. I find Title slides very difficult to create in iPhoto but that's another story.
There doesn't seem to be any way to save or finalize a slide show. Just when I think I've set it the way I want, it takes over and starts cutting off pieces of the images. I have tried cropping within iPhoto, or editing in Photoshop using the "edit in external editor" option. My changes do not get saved so there are ridiculous unprofessional chopped-off slides. I'd like this to look right before I post it at my organization's website and am getting frustrated.

Success! Thank you so much. I would have replied sooner but I spent the morning going through your advice step by step and every time I gave my slide show a tweak - it worked.
As I enter this reply I am exporting the slideshow so it can be uploaded.
In case this should be helpful to another user I'll go through your queries:
Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album of photos or user the iPhoto Slideshow mode?
    • I am still blundering along figuring out the distinctions between Events and Albums. In this case I imported my slides into the Photos section, in carefully numbered sequence because on my previous import they ended up in a confusing mess. I dragged and dropped the numbered files into the slideshow I was creating.
Are the cut off photos in the portrait orientation?
    • Mostly, but not always.
Are you using the Ken Burns theme or applying KB to selected photos?
    • I used KB, even though I knew I was asking for trouble…
    What theme are you using?
    • KB was the theme I picked because it seemed to work best for this set of images. I tried Classic with dissolves but after tweaking using your information, preferred KB and am using it.
First guess is that you have the optiion to Scale photos to fill screen selected:
    • I was completely ignorant of this feature. Very important!
If you're using a specific theme some of them do not handle portrait oriented photos well. They do get cut off at top and bottom.
    • I will keep that in mind for future slide shows.
Also set the aspect ration to TV: 4:3 unless the photos are in the widescreen size ratio: 16:9
    • This may have been the final setting for success.
Now I can face my boss

  • Gallery slide show settings

I have configured my tablet to run Gallery when it is placed in the cradle. I have not been able to find ANY settings that allow me to change the timing on each photo, nor the zoom action. The apparent default of 3 seconds is way too fast and I do not care for the zooming motion, preferring simple transitions.
How do I change these settings?
BTW, I have the latest Android version, and all other apps are up-to-date as well.

    Hello,
Welcome to the User Discussion Forums.
Thank you for your suggestion, we will forward your request for review.
There are currently no settings to change the intervals or order of playback for your pictures.

  • Slide show settings for Lightroom 5.3

Will appreciate knowing the settings to publish slideshows on TV and projectors.

There are no settings to know, because there aren't any unless you have a DVD player that will handle media player files or other such computer media. If you want a DVD then you need to consider other software. I am on Windows 7, and I use ProShow Gold to produce my DVDs.

  • Slide Show settings will not hold

I can't get my slideshow to change from the dissolve transition mode to any thing else. I change the transition in three different places, but i still get the same results.
    What am I doing wrong?
I'm using Iphoto 6.0.5. My slideshow has about 2000 pics if that might matter.
    Thanks!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist and all of the contents of the User/Library/Caches/iPhoto folder. Then see if those changes will stick.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Error message in iDVD with Slide show from iPhoto 09

I have about 130 photos in a slide show with music in iPhoto 09. The slide show settings are for the whole slide show are Ken Burns effect, each slide about 8.1 seconds, random transitions, and music fit to the slide show..I Went to "Share" Send to DVD.
In DVD, I type in a title and a photo in the drop zone, then I chose as a Burn as a Disc Image. It does some encoding and then a I get an error message when it finishes that says " There was an error during the rendering of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled".. This basically tells me Nothing!!
What is wrong? How can I fix this? Using OS 10.5.7 intel dual core. iMac desktop.
Previously, I had successfully created a DVD of this same slide show, made one DVD, but after seeing in on my DVD player, I tried to fix some things, like fitting the music to the slide show, but that is about all. Frustrated!!
    Any help will be appreciated....Thanks.

This sounds more like an iDVD issue than an iPhoto one. I would post on the iDVD forum here:

  • Ipad:  photo slide show with music problem.

Using the ipad, looking at my photo's, I select a photo, select slide show and knowing that I have already set the play music with slide show, I then press the Airplay icon. Seconds later the slide show starts on the Apple TV, but there is no music. I have checked the settings in the photo app and the music is selected in the slide show settings, what have I not done, or is there a bug in Airplay?

I am a hybrid sort of guy. I have a bland Acer desktop with Windows 7 hard-wired to a Netgear WNDR3700 router. My AppleTV is connectected optically to a set of self-powered speakers. The Sony TV is connected to the same speakers through the analog RCA output and to the Apple TV via HDMI. The AppleTV slideshow works fine with the photos from my desktop. I can simultaneously stream music from iTunes on my desktop through the self-powered speakers via the optical connection. I am currently working on a slideshow of Christmases Past while playing my Xmas playlist from iTunes. So I get photos and music simultaneously but they are not strictly connected to each other. Kind of klutzy work-around, but my family seems impressed.

  • Slide Shows not behaving

I just spent last night going over iphoto 09 and found it very frustrating how the slide show settings would not change when requested.
To begin with I would create a new slide show, then adjust the settings and play. Sometimes the inital settings edit would work, but after the second edit on the settings it would revert to the initial settings. Any clues?

Same problem here, check out what I just wrote to Apple. Sorry it is lengthy but I like putting all the details.
Hello Apple, I have some bugs to report about the slide show ability in iPhoto iLife09. There just was an update for iPhoto, that was for a few things plus slide show export. After that up it seems like this problem is a little worse. For the bulk of us who just want to use iPhoto for the sideshow "not export" right now I can't. I've had this issue for a while, where I want to play songs from one of my play lists but only the first song will play now nothing at all. When I just last tried to play one, the slide show played no music and I could not get out of it period. Esc, Apple Q, control option esc, nothing worked, the photos for some reason where also cut off only showing half or only a third of the photos. Right now on my system there is a serious bug, glitch, or something causing this. Please help, I still love the other features to much now like the faces and places to go back to the iLife 08 version. I really need the slide show to perform well to show my photos off to others. Using iTunes was a pain but it was a work around, but now with the photos not even showing correctly I can't use it.

  • Setting slide show music in iPhoto doesn't change slide music in Front Row

When I try and view slide shows in Front Row, I always get the same classical music.
I have searched the internet and most suggestions tell you to change the settings in iPhoto and this will be mirrored in Front Row - but this isnt working?
Does anyone have a simple way of changing the Front Row slide show settings?
    Thanks

    MidwestPaul :
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might try exporting to Quicktime and then add the resulting QT movie to iDVD and see if the timing remains intact.
Are you using the KB effect or multiple transitions in the slideshow? If not I find that I get better quality slideshows by building them in iDVD from the stills. That way I can add titles and/or comments to each slide if so desired, get the music to sync as it should (I like to add a blank, black slide a the end so the music ends in that slide). Downside: no KB effect and only one transition. Upside, better forward and backward control of the slideshow, better quality of the slides and all slides can be scaled to the TV Safe area so none of the image is lost to the TV Over-scan.

  • HT4362 iPhoto 9.4.2:  why it is impossible to display slide shows on an Apple TV (only events and albums)?

    Hi all,
I have iPhoto 9.4.2 and an AppleTV (2nd generation).
On the AppleTV I have no problems in playing pictures stored in the iPhoto library when the pictures are organized in an Event or in an Album, but when my pictures are organized in a Slide Show, they aren't visible in the AppleTV.
My purpose is to play on the AppleTV a slide show with exactly the same picture sequence and music I've set up in the Slide Show settings on my Mac...
I know that in theory I could use an Album, but unfortunately the AppleTV does not retain the picture sequence and the music...

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem does not appear with the new library the old library is the culprit.
In that case  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Best export settings for slide show

I created a 3 page slide show in photoshop that I would like to burn to a DVD. The slides include copy, photos and a few logos. They look beautiful in photoshop. I've tried importing them to Final Cut Pro in order to add music and some transitions, but when I export to compressor or quicktime and burn to a DVD using Toast, everything is really fuzzy, even on my HD TV.
So I thought maybe I should do this in Motion. I exported to quicktime and used the animation codec and it looks fantastic in QT but loses some quality when I burn it to a DVD in toast.
Is my problem with Motion or Toast? And is this the way to go about it? I know FCP way better than Motion and would like to stay there. Is it possible to get the same results in FCP?

    Tommyjamg wrote:
Basically I created a "powerpoint" presentation in photoshop, a series of photos with copy, etc.
I imported those slides into FCP and added transitions between slides, had some photos fade
    in/out, nothing spectacular.
You left out the critical information: what size is the sequence?
    Tommyjamg wrote:
And from what I've read on this post, it won't matter how I send it to compressor or qt, it will only
look as good as the DVD lets it because it's SD. Although that doesn't make sense to me because
I've had good luck sending movies I've made in FCP to a DVD and the video, as well as the titles
    look pretty good.
Could be but your other movies were probably created using more DVD-friendly sequence settings and codecs.

What is the difference between a DVD and a DVD-ROM?
ROM is read-only-memory. It's just a disk with some files on it. DVD is a tightly spec'd MPEG2 video format.

  • Iphoto slide shows on Apple TV ignores Music settings

I use iphoto slide shows on my apple tv as you have more control over the burns effects etc. rather than Apple tv taking control. I have a problem where after setting the slide show timing to fit the music track (fit slide show to music in iphoto) whilst this runs fine within the apple mac , is completely ignored on the appleTV and the music finishes (and repeates) before the slide show ends. any ideas

The timing is probably not ignored but it is likely that transitions are applied differently on the tv and may take a different length of time to occur. Still the effect is the same and unfortunately it's not too pretty. Which is why I chose to stick with simply syncing photos and not slideshows a long time ago.

  • Settings for slide show?  Export?

I am putting together a 250 photo slide show in FCE 4. I exported TIF and JPEG files from iPhoto and imported in FCE. My slides look good when played on the browser. My exports, however, do not look good. What might I be doing wrong?
Quicktime export has washed out colors that are vastly inferior to the browse in FCE. Dimensions, however, are fine (16x9). There are also a few pauses and/or hiccups in the Quicktime playback.
Apple TV export is squished. It looks like output was compressed to fit 4:3. Colors are also washed out.
    Easyset-up set for 1080i50

I remember a podcast tutorial that says that you should always save your photo files as .tif file (or PICT/TARGA) if you plan on showing it on TV. What you see on your computer screen will not always "look" the same on TV. JPG has somekind of compression that will show up less than stellar on TV where as .tif will not. Also, TV doesn't have the dynamic range to show all the colors and details as would a computer screen. If there are extreme highlights/shadows on your photos then some photos will look washed out or underexposed on TV.

  • Captions not displaying in iphoto slide show in my iPad 4

    Hi
I am trying to create slide show in iphoto and  want to add caption/text/title in that...I am able to add captions to the photo in edit mode however it doesnt show in the slide show...also I am confused about iphoto versions...my iPad show version 2.0.1 however the discussions I saw on this forum point towards iphoto 9,10,11...
Please help me with my problem as I want to create a nice slide show with photos, text and music

Slideshows on the iPad (or on any handheld device) do not support titles, only the slideshows in iPhoto on the Mac do that.
In the settings you can select a theme, select music, and set the spped, and that is all there is,  see:  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/#blnkd19951ed
