Slide shows way too light

My slideshows are coming out at least a stop too light when exported into .MOV or quicktime movies. Have tried a couple different exports and nothing works. I have also tried in iPhoto but they end up too dark and contrasty. Any ideas? A couple other apps that I would have to buy or aren't feature-rich render them correctly, but I'd sure like to use iMovie, which I've already paid for...
I'm importing them as .jpg files, either srgb or adobe 1998 color profiles, doesn't make a difference.
thanks
dave

solved it... need to change the compression type from any of the movie formats to the jpeg compression...

My HP P1006 printer prints WAY too light.  I installed Win 7  (32-bit), then reinstalled the driver, but there has been no improvement. Changing the print density does nothing!

    Hi Jamesmuir,
You read my mind with your last statement regarding print density; that was my first thought.
Try following the steps in this document - Redistributing the Toner (This document displays the M1212, but the process is the same).
Also, try printing a Supplies Status Page (This Document has Instructions for Windows) - see what your page count is for that toner cartridge. The page yield for the standard cartridge (HP 35A/CB435A) is 1500 pages as per HP Shopping.
Let me know if the redistribution of the toner works or not, and also please post your page count from the supplies status page.
    Thanks!

  • PSE 6 slide show photos too large for TV screen

I have been collecting, scanning and saving family photos for over a year to create a slide show for my 81 yr. old Dad. I create a slide show with PSE 6, save to a CD and play on the TV. No matter what pixel size I resize the photos to they are still too large for the TV screen - not just one TV screen but different ones I try. I loose heads at the top, feet at the bottom, people on the sides. I have been researching but have not found the answer to solve my problem. Anyone have the answer or some suggestions I would be very appreciative.  Thanks.

Well, first of all, choose the right resolution and frame-rate...
Are you working in NTSC (30 fps), or PAL (25 fps)...?
Use one of the common DV formats /
if you choose HD, 1080i, then your TV must be able to recognize that format,
    otherwise images get cut off...
    Format                                           Rectangular Size              Square Size
    DV NTSC................................................720x480.............................. ...720x540
    DV PAL...................................................720x576............................ .....768x576
    HDV 720p..................................................NA................................. ....1280x720
    HDV 1080i.................................................NA................................. ....1920x1080
Stay with your chosen format through-out your whole project...
(PNG, TIFF or PSD), import those files into your video editor.
Depending on the Operational System (Mac or Windows), one has many choices...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_editing_software
After editing, import those files into your chosen Authoring software for burning,
they will take care of the appropriate compression.
(I would recommend burning to DVD, not CD, one will achieve much better quality...

  • Sidetracked to a Slide show but too much flicker!

    Hi all.
As my wife is a pro photographer...I've been asked to do a slide show with audio track for a client.
I've spent a few hours now reading so many posts on this forum relating to why still images flicker on a DVD when played on a TV. Amazing what you guys know it really is. :-)
So having now made numerous tests with: image sizes and formats (PSD TIF JPGetc), Blurs, Contrast settings etc, I am left with a hugh pile of used DVDs, but still cannot get the photos in my slide show to stop flickering when played on any LCD or CRT TV.
I have read posts advising that there are better products for slide shows than PrE8, so I'm currently dowloading an evaluation version of ProShow Gold.
I guess I am just looking for confirmation that I am on the right track with this mode of thinking..? It would seem that using PrE8 for a slide show is kind of like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut?
    Thanks
    Craig.

When you say a DVD s/w player....? Is that a separate application?
Yes. I use CyberLink's PowerDVD, but the freeware, MediaPlayer Classic HC is a good one too. As I have the full-paid versions of CyberLink on all machines, I have it set as the default DVD player, though I do have MPC HC too.
When you say you 'Import those into Encore for authoring' are you saying that it is the Encore application that burns your final DVD? Does the method of DVD authoring actually have any bearing on the flicker issue?
In my case, Encore is my authoring application of choice. Good news - it's great and works beautifully with both my PrPro and with Photoshop. Bad news - it is no longer sold as a stand-alone application, and is ONLY available bundled with Adobe PrPro, as of CS3 and now CS4.
All that Encore does is author DVD's and BD's (Blu-ray Discs). My version, EncoreDVD 2.0, does not have BD authoring capabilities, but, as of now, I only work in SD DVD Projects, so that limitation is not of consequence to me - yet.
Most of my Projects are Burned from Encore, though I can and do use ImgBurn (or Gear DVD) to do some Burns, especially if I have Burned to Folder, or done an Image (ISO), in my workflow.
Encore does have a very rudimentary SlideShow creation feature, but I do not use it. There are too many limitations, and the only thing that it offers, beyond what I do in PrPro, is Random Pan & Zoom, something that I would never do, as I view each image as unique, requiring my eye to determine exactly how the Pans & Zooms are applied, and adjusted. It also has a 99 image per SlideShow limit. I just have zero reason to use it.
I have never had an issue with flickering, and really cannot comment on flicker removal in Encore. Never needed it, so never looked for it. Also, since it is an authoring program, ONLY, I rather doubt that it has this. It would be an operation for the NLE, not the authoring app. Encore can do no editing (except for that SlideShow feature), in either Audio, or Video - none.
    The image output was JPG.
As I've stated elsewhere, I am not a fan of JPEG compression, even at lower compression levels. This is both for print and video work. I only use JPEG, when I am doing work that will go onto a client's Web site, and often choose PNG over JPEG. I find that I can see slight pixelization with JPEG's, and eschew that format. As most of my images are in camera RAW (NEF's in my case), all of these come into PS through ARC, and are in .PSD format. I will do all of my image editing in that format, then resize for video and Save_As .PSD, which will then be Imported into my NLE (Non Linear Editor). I just never get to JPEG. Depending on your source material, and exactly how you are editing these images, you might want to explore not using JPEG in the scheme. As your wife is a professional photographer, test whether she can see a quality improvement. Some do not, but I can with my images. Not saying that PSD will eliminate your flickering problems, but it might be worth a look.
As for the ProShow programs, they do look good, and many professionals, who do major SlideShows are very pleased with them. One such producer on the PrPro forum got me to look into Producer, and it seems to be excellent. I just need to justify the purchase (and learning time), against the number of SlideShows that I am likely to do.
Last, with regards to the DVD RW's, remember that those are just for testing, and NOT for delivery. For that, I strongly recommend Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden blank media. Nowadays, the -R vs +R is not the issue, that it once was. I always use +R for all DVD-9's (DL), but will use either for DVD-5's.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Slide shows images too big. How to scale??

OK, I've been pulling my hair out over this.
I create a slide show but the images crop off the tops and bottoms, as they drift along. I've played with the settings (fill screen/ 4:3/16:9) but no luck. Also, vertical images are a joke in slide show.
Q: How can I make the iPhoto slide show truly fit images to screen? Thanks.
    -Dooki

Thanks Larry. By default it's turned off, though I've tried on as well.
I played more by adjusting the size of the images in photoshop. The default was something like 32"x 27"(thereabouts) @ 72dpi. I reduced it to 11 x 8.5 @100dpi. This reduction did not work either. It still cropped off the top and bottom.

  • Loading slide show takes too long - want play to start earlier

I made a long slideshow with perhaps 80 smallish (700x500) images. It is just a simple timeline with fade ins with varying durations for displaying the images. Most images are shown for a second or more. It takes quite a while to load sometimes. One is left looking at the preload gif - which makes a bad impression.
Is there any way I can code it such that it will start to play after say 10 images or fewer are loaded. There would be plenty of time I would think for the rest to load while the show is going on - even with a bad connection.
If I had control I could tweak till I found what I think is the best compromise. It would be preferable in the worst case for there to be pauses in the playback down the line rather than at the start.
I was thinking of splitting it into chunks and making a load url action once in a while for another gaggle of images. But that sounds a very poor solution at onset  - as if it would break up the action even if it was being viewed on a fast connection.
I am prepared start all over if there are any better strategies suggested
    thanks

Have finally found a solution for this problem: http://serverfault.com/questions/490352 … w-to-start
Now the applications do start immediately via SSH X11 forwarding as expected.
    The following three lines helped:
    ip6tables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
    ip6tables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT
    ip6tables -A FORWARD -i lo -o lo -j ACCEPT
While until now, all ip6 traffic has been forbidden (to drop all ip6 traffic) at the start of the system of course.
Nevertheless, I don't understand it, why the ip6 localhost has to be granted this way even if the /etc/ssh/sshd_config is configured for ip4 only "AddressFamily inet"?
I thought, that this way the sshd will be using ip4 protocol only (including for the X11 forwarding), then why does it still need the ip6?

Not easily. You would probably have to hack up some system file and I don't think that knowledge is known outside of Apple.

  • Why Won't PreE Burn my Slide Show Project to a DVD?

I created a slide show using PE 6 and sent it to PreE 4. However, when I try to burn it to a DVD using PreE 4 it just quits on me? Then I can't even open PreE?? I really don't know what's happening?? My complete slide show is saved in PreE 4 and I can find it at  adobe\Premiere Elements\4.0\ project name. However, when I try to open it nothing happens. I thought perhaps my slide show was too big for PreE but that doesn't appear to be the problem. My saved PreE 4 slideshow is 8.29 MB and PE 6 slideshow gives a play time of 56:43 Min after creation.
A standard  DVD is at 120 minutes and 4.7 GB
Can anyone tell me what the devils happening here or at least give me some direction to solve this dilemna.
    Thanks for any help provided.

The slideshow created in Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor exists there as a creation and goes no where until you output it to something else. If your goal is a DVD-VIDEO version of your slideshow and you want to use Premiere Elements to generate the DVD-VIDEO, before Photoshop Elements 5/Premiere Elements 3, you had to output your slideshow as a file sized .wmv video and import that into Premiere Elements. The use of the .wmv limited the possibilities for further edits of the slideshow that arrived on the Premiere Elements Timeline as one whole video rather than individual photos. Further, there were those that questioned the use of the .wmv version for quality reasons. I never found that to be the case.
But, if you have the specific combinations of Photoshop Elements 5/Premiere Elements 3 OR Photoshop Elements 6/Premiere Elements 4 OR Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7, you obtain the perk of being able to send your Photoshop Elements slideshow to Premiere Elements in a non wmv form which can be broken apart allowing for further significant edits. The keys to doing this are:
    a. Specific sets 5/3 or 6/4 or 7/7
    b. Use of the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor Output option of “Send to Premiere Elements” which then makes available the “Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slideshow” command in Premiere Elements (right click video on Timeline, select “Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slideshow”). If you had some mismatch of Photoshop Elements Premiere Elements versions, like 6/7, the Photoshop Elements Output option of “ Send to Premiere Elements” would be available, but once the slideshow got to Premiere Elements, the “Break Apart Photoshop Elements Slideshow” would not.
Immediately after the output is completed in the Media panel you will see:
    a. Folder containing the individual photo and video assets
    b. A file representing the intact slideshow in video form
On the Timeline you will see your intact slideshow video form.
The Time Stretch Tool is used to change duration. You can use:
    a. (less precise) The Time Stretch Tool Icon above the Timeline. Click that, watch your mouse cursor turn into a vertical bar with a cross (diagonal arrow and red bar) superimposed, then click on drag end of image.
    b. (more precise). The Time Stretch feature via right clicking the image on the Timeline, selecting Time Stretch, and typing in the duration.
    c. in either case, any gaps created on the Timeline are gotten rid of by right clicking the gap and clicking on the “Delete and Close Gap” pop up.
When you go to decrease the duration or when you are changing the duration of an image at the end of the Timeline, everything will be going as you expected. HOWEVER, when it comes to increasing the duration or changing the duration of an image in the middle of the Timeline, you will need to move the images to make room for the expansion and then close the gaps.
Before I go on to some other things, I should go back to the Media panel and its contents immediately after receiving the Photoshop Elements Slideshow. You can open the folder with assets (photos & videos) in the Project Media View. If you right click one of the files, select Time Stretch, change the duration of the image, the duration of that file will be changed and be reflected if you drag that file from Project View Media area to the Timeline. BUT, this will not change the duration of that image which is already on the Timeline.
There are so many other aspects of this that I will save for another time. One of the things that we could talk about is creating slideshow and the DVD-VIDEO slideshow all within Premiere Elements and bring into play:
Premiere      Elements’ Create Slideshow feature to set image duration OR transition      duration all at one time
Changing      the Premiere Elements default duration (5 sec) via Edit      Menu/Preferences/General
Pans & Zooms with Edit Menu/Effects/Presets/Horizontal and Vertical Pans or Zooms as well as creating Pans & Zooms with keyframing.
I am probably running into the Flash Player and Premiere Pro Forum space by now. Please focus me in on your specific issues and I will continue with my what works for me comments.

  • What looks good in Bridge, Lightroom & Safari, looks too light in CS4

When I get things just the way I want them in Lightroom, and export them, when I open them up in Photoshop CS4, they look way too light and even undersaturated. The same image looks the same in Safari, LIghtroom and Bridge, but not CS4.   CS4 is set to sRGB and all the images are sRGB images.
Question: why? And what do I need to do so that images look the same in all applications?
I am on a 27" iMac running all the latest software.  I have calibrated my monitor and it is set at about 140 cdm2

try exporting from lightroom with AdobeRGB (1998) color space and in photoshop at color settings / working space / rgb choose also AdobeRGB (1998).

Not the only one. Though I have not retryed my installation. Here is what happen to me and please verify if you had the same (sounds like it).
    1. Installed 10.8.4 on top of 10.8.3 and install went fine.
    2. I have installed a Niffy Drive (though no SD in it) ... but did not realize potential problem you suggest.
    3. its a MBPr
    4. Boot took for every (it 40 seconds from after I logedin to system screen on 10.8.3) but after (ie on 10.8.4) took forever 10-15 minutes with a cursor in the upper left on a white/gray screen.
    5. I reinstalled to 10.8.3 and all works as before
    6. But sounds like after removing niffy dirve I should reinstall??? Ie the problem I described was the same as yours.

  • Any way to not pan in a slide show?

Hi, my daughter needs to create a slide show of her life and we found that panning on some slides will sometimes zoom in and not show faces or other important features of an image.
Is there any way to turn panning off and just show the entire slide statically?
Is there any way to guarantee that the important aspect of a slide is always shown - without cropping the slide too much?
    Thanks,

    dlittlejohn
Yes you can turn off the Ken Burns Effect as the panning is called. On the toolbar, click on Slideshow, then Settings, then Uncheck 'Automatic Ken Burns Effect'.
Unfortunately, you'll have to uncheck it for each slideshow you make.

  • Scaling photos into Light Box or Slide show

I will look for a tutorial on this but...
I dont seem to be able to find a way that images (photos) of different sizes can be  correctly displayed to size and proportion in a Light Box or Slide Show.
I have tried the "fit" and proportion" options to no avail.  I thought these might auto scale the photos to fit but no luck.
Am I missing something or do these assets need to be created to size?
If so ...how does one determine the size?  ( I looked for the size properties of the  Lightbox "screen")

    Thank you.
Not quite what I was hoping for but at least I know now.
How does one get a measure on the "image box"?  (trial and error?)
I guess one needs to know so that one can create images scaled to that size or a tad smaller.
Thinking ...Maybe I just pick a size for images and then scale the box to fit in the design mode.

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Then try deleting the library again.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
