Slide size and cropping

If I produce a presentation based on my standard screen resolution (1680 by 1050) and then use a projector which as I understand is 4:3 proportion how is the screen/slide cropped? If I set my slide size to 1200 by 900 then I can see what will happen. But what if my slide size is say 1680 x 1050? Will the slide get squashed or cropped? Or will the black screen area surrounding the slide change width?
Thanks

Your projector will be 1024x768 (probably). Use that to set up your slideshow when you program it, AND crop your pix to the right pixel dimensions. That way your processor has to do as little as possible when you present, and the effects are as fast and smooth as possible. On your laptop, it will fill the height of the screen and crop the sides. (Set it in the prefs). It will be sharper on the projector than on the laptop, 'cos the projector is working at its native resolution, but the laptop is resampling.

  • 3 by 1 slide size

I would like to have my slide 3 times as wide as it is high. There is not a custom size setting and no 3 by 1 equivalent in my options when starting a new slide show. How do I do this?

After you create a slide show, in the Document Inspector, under the Slide Size popup, select "Custom Slide Size…" and enter your desired slide size.

  • Creating a Custom Slide Size

I am trying to create a custom slide size: I figure there is a simple way to do so, but I cannot find it.
    Any advise?
    Thanks in advance!

In the Document Inspector, there is a dropdown menu that sets the slide size, and one of the options is "Custom slide size...".

  • How to find the size and resolution option in the aspect ratio drop down menu for the crop tool

while looking through certain tutorials on the new crop system i came across many that referenced the above mentioned size and resolution option in the  access ratio drop down menu.  They all mention a dialog box which then appears which looks really useful, however my version doesnt have this option. any help would be appreciated.

Yes, definitely already differences. I sympathize with Photoshop instructors (online and offline).
The headline change was Retina support but that was also made available to non-Cloud versions.

  • Image size and/or cropping with iMovie 9

I have a video in .mov format that was created by Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD software. The movie is a copy of a 4:3 aspect ratio videotape. When I review the clips from this movie in iMovie, the size and aspect ratio are identical to the original. However, when I move the clips into an iMovie project, the aspect ratio appears to be the same but all of the edges are severely cropped (it's like one used a zoom feature on the image). I get the same result whether I select 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio for the project. I have also had this experience with iPhoto -cropping occurs on any photo being printed or exported. I can convert the .mov into a video DVD or any format, without aspect ratio change cropping. But, that conversion doesn't allow me to edit the .mov.
How do I solve this problem?

I wish someone could answer this. I'm having the same problem. I imported video from my digital tape camera using iMovie (automatically saved as .dv files). In the clip viewer of iMovie (lower right part of iMovie), they appear whole. But when I drag into a project, the clips are severely cropped, just like the original post describes. It doesn't matter if I set the project to 16:9, 4:3, or 3:2 - the same cropping occurs.
    What's up with this?

  • Circular and oval cropping at set size and resolution?

I know how to use the M tool to create circles and ovals and i know you can set that to certain dimensions, but that doesn't do everything I need.
How do you crop circles and ovals out of a photo, at a set size (for example, a 1 inch circle ) at a set resolution for printing?  What I need to do is crop circular and oval images out of a photo, say at 250 dpi, then paste them onto a blank white page for printing.
So if I've got let's say a photo that's 14x10 inches at 300dpi, I want to be able to go in, crop out an oval or circle, with as much or as little of the photo that I can or want to, setting that automatically to a certain dimension and dpi, then paste it into a blank white page I've already created at that same d
When finished I'd have maybe 20 or 30 images on a page that I can flatten all the layers and print.
I can't find a way to set size and resolution with anything other than the regular square crop tool.

You can make an action and use it as one step automation to achieve that on an initial selection.
    Step by step instructions:
With the Elliptical Marquee Tool, make the desired selection on a image.
Open the Actions panel (Window > Actions (Alt+F9), from its menu at the top right or corresponding buttons at the bottom, choose New Action, and in the dialog that appears press the Record button.
From the Image menu, choose Crop.
From the Selection menu, choose Inverse (Ctrl+Shift+I)
Press the d key on your keyboard to reset the foreground/background color swatches.
Press Ctrl + Delete keys on your keyboard to fill with white.
From the Image menu, choose Image Size (Ctrl+Alt+I), make sure the Resample Image is checked, and in the Document Size section enter the desired dimensions and resolution and press OK.
In the Actions Panel press the Stop Recording button.
Now you can copy or drag the image to another image.
For the next image make the oval selection, go to the Actions panel, select the actions you created above, and press the play button. You can also create a keyboard shortcut in the action's property accessible by double clicking the action.
The creation of this action assumes that in the final image you will be composing oval images on white background without overlapping their rectangular bounding boxes. If you plan to overlap them then the action must be modified to make the image a transparent layer and delete outside the oval instead of filling with white.

  • Cropping at same size and with aligned images (and/or at scale)

hi all. i am hoping for a little help as i tune up my photoshop usage.
i am finding that i sometimes have a need to crop a couple of images from something like an architectural line drawing. this means that i have lines in this drawing and i am oftentimes in need - for instance if i have copied two floor plan with one above the other - of having these images sit in a frame that is the SAME SIZE.
i am also in the need of cropping so that the resulting images are ALIGNED - with for instance one line in one image at the same spot at the bottom and to the left with the same amount of bleed area around the image both at this point and at all other points.
is there a way to crop an image in two different spots at the SAME SIZE?
is there a way to crop a "sloppy" copy of two sets of images so that the canvas is the same size but the resulting set of images are aligned in the manner described above?
ALSO, is there some way for me to SCALE a set of images in Photoshop?
thanks in advance for any links, advice, expertise etcetera.
    - jon

    hi jjm.
i think i threw something in that should have been separated into antother posting. i am not so concerned about the scaling question.
i am more concerned about being able to get two separate sets of images - with for instance a line drawing - out of another drawing so that i have two images that when placed in a document will have the same size and the same amount of bleed area in white around it.
i guess in thinking about this - that i would just copy and paste each image to a new document, CROP as close to the image as possible and then ENLARGE THE CANVAS SIZE to whatever size i wanted. this would then meant that the image had almost the same placement in the canvas since i CROPPED the two images as close as possible and then enlarged to suit.
but this seems like it only would work for images with white backgrounds or single color backgrounds in a way somehow.
i mean, is there a way to place a COPY box on a very large image with a set of other images in it and Copy two sets of images to new documents so that they are the same size? or i mean a more accurate way to COPY information out of a document? what about making sure that an image is placed correctly in a CANVAS?
it seems like i would be asking for a tool that would let me select a point on the image and to tell photoshop to give me this image (or each image in this case) a CANVAS of some size or a CANVAS with some BORDER /around/ the rest of the image of some measurement.
is there anything like this? something more accurate for copying information so that i can repeat the copy and something more accurate for CUT or Canvas so that i can place an image in the final file more accurately?
i always sort of wing it with this and have to do Canvas sizes freehand or CUT the image close and then enlarge the canvas and this seems rather imprecise...
    THANKS

  • Changing font size and style in quiz slides

    Captivate v4
Can anyone help explain how I can change the font size and style (italic for example) of the 3 text entries with a quiz slide.
    1. Quiz Name
    2. Question
    3. Answer
When I create a new quiz the Quiz Name is Arial 22, The Question is Arial 18 and the Answer is Arail 12.
I am pretty sure i must have selected these somewhere - but unable to find where and I need to change these to some new default settings, as I am having to amend each slide as I insert it.
    NEL

In Captivate 4 you'll have to select one of these items and change the font size, then Apply to All objects of the same type.  In Quiz Slides the Question Title caption, Question Text caption, and Question Answer caption are all special types of captions unique to quiz slides. So by changing one and then applying to all, you can do all such items in the quiz easily.
In Captivate 5/5.5 you can achieve the same result by changing the Object Style.

  • Issue with rescale and cropping in Captivate 5

I have an issue with cropping when rescaling. I have installed the December patch and am still having a problem.
    1. I imported a PPT in 800x600.
    2. I rescaled to 900x600, deselecting Maintain Aspect Ratio, and selecting to Keep project the same size and position the project Top Right. This leaves a white border 100 pixels along the left side of the project.
    3. Saved the project.
    4. Opened project and selected to rescale.
    5. Deselected Maintain Aspect Ratio and changed the Width back to 800
    6. Selected the Crop radio button.
    7. Clicked Next.
    8. Moved the crop area to the right to select the PPT and eliminate the white border on the left.
    9. Click Apply to All Slides.
    10. Click Finish.
The project rescales and is now 800x600, but it retains the white border on the left and distorts the slide image since it is now fitting in a 700x600 space. It seems to have ignored the Crop part of the task and just resized the image as is.
Has anyone else had this issue and know a workaround? I have submitted a bug but have not heard back and we have an immediate need to resize a project. Without a fix, we need to recreate the project in 800x600 to continue which will take a lot of time.

  • What do the "Automatic" settings do for Frame size and Frame rate in Compressor 4.1.1?

Can anyone tell me, very specifically and with technical detail, what the "Automatic" settings do (in Compressor 4.1.1) for the following setting attributes: (1) Frame size and (2) Frame rate
    Thank you!

Hi, in addition to Russ's advice for the VIDEO PROPERTIES in the Inspector, you might consider the "automatic" options being proposed by compressor.app V4.1.x as OPTIMAL for the destination codec you have specified that deviate (or differ in some way) form the MASTER (source) from where your are transcoding. There's no real TECHNICAL detail. These UI values simply are passed as parameters to the codec. The image/audio results can be PREVIEWed ofcourse in the compressor.app V4.1.x UI (Current PAne) ... us the slider and the timeline to determine final taste!
    Suggested Examples may include:
REDUCED frame rate for a slower device or stream or bit rate or destination dleivery platform
reduced bit rate for older devices
smaller FRAME SIZE for say SD devices specified
INCREASED frame size with added "padding" in a situation like LETTERBOXING (4:3 in a 17:9 for example.. may others)
ye old PAL to NTSC conversion
inter-frame group of pictures (GOP) for distribution.
    Scaling
    retiming
    cropping verses scaling
or simply what compressor.app "thinks" would work best - usually the best for most work.
others will have many more suggestions.
Also note that there are some nice  overidding settings in the inspector/Video for resizing and retiming and Cropping you might consider.
For client based production distributions, many of us use CUSTOMISED settings. You may create and delete these on an AS NEEDED basis.
Lastly, There's likely a good write up the defaults in the latest Compressor.app V4.1 Users Guide PDf - you might want to pull it down from http://manuals.apple.com and shove it in ibooks.app. I recommend getting a copy. Also get the latest FCPX 10.1 Users Guide and Motion while you're there. Great for iPAD and iPHONE too if you get bored.

  • Slide size different

I am working with a slide 800x600 in Captivate 6.0.1.240 on a Windows 7 machine.
The working slide is the layout I want.  But the filmstrip shows the slide size that is displayed and it crops off the working slide evenly on all sides.
How do I change the settings on the display size to show what I design on the working slide?

    Hello,
I never did see this that bad.... when you use the 'Large' size for the filmstrip, I have a little bit of cropping but not at all like yours. Can you change to Medium, and tell if it is still cropped?

I need to export a photo at around 1meg file size, and dont seem to be able to do it in the presets can anyone help please ,I shoot on a canon 5d

I believe Frank is referring to the end use (e.g., for print or on-screen use).
Until he returns, I can tell you that I ran a quick test using an image from the Aperture 3 training book library which was as follows:
Camera = Canon EOS 5D Mark II
    Master resolution = 5616 x 3744 (21 MP)
I was able to export to a JPEG with end file size of 1 MB as follows:
Export Presets drop-down > select 'Edit' option
Selected preset name 'JPEG - 50% of Original Size' > change percentage value to 40% > change DPI value to '300' > click OK to set as current default > Export version to desktop.
The exported JPEG has a resolution of 2246 x 1498 and appears on screen to have the same image quality of the original in Aperture.
Note - I did not change the default Image Quality slider in the Export Preset dialog (which left it at 10).
Basically, you will need to play around with the settings until you find the appropriate values to arrive at an image version you want.

A number of posts have reported the same issue, two workarounds:
    1
check the paper handling options or equivalent in your print dialogue box and set to scale to fit

in the Keynote option, in the dropdown menu in the Print section, select Individual Slides
then choose Layout, and set the number of pages, when printed you will have multiple pages on a single sheet.
