Slidebar to advance or go back in song?

Up until a couple of days ago my iTunes window had a slidebar for advancing or moving backward in a song, but it changed of its own accord, seemingly, and now I can only key in command-option-arrow to move backward or forward. Is there a way to get that slidebar back? It is much better than keying in commands; it's faster and more accurate. Thanks.

This shows the progress bar that you want:
If you click the button shown under the mouse pointer arrow above, it will change to this:
Click again to toggle back to the original window.

I have copied my iTunes library onto a new computer, but when I play back the songs using the new computer, there seems to be random "miss" or "drop out" during play back, similar to a small scratch on a vinyl record.  Although when I play the same song over again, the "miss" occurs in a different location during the song.  No probs with old computer, just the new one.  I'm onto my third new computer - same problem.  Any suggestions please?

You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • TS1412 My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this. Thanks

My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two in full and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this situation. Thank you very much.

This is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store.

Hate to tell you but your OS is corrupted. Maybe someone else with more knowledge will come by and give you some things to try.
Other than a complete wipe and reinstall of OS X you could tryu reinstalling OS X over the top of the current install. That might work top at least get you into the system. If it does I suggest you backup your personal files to an external drive.

Anyone know if I can transfer my playlist from iphone to Itunes on my laptop.
I am not keen to sync my iphone to my new laptop in case it wipes out my playlist.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello CDA ENT
I would turn off the automatic syncing so that way you can see what is on your iPhone. From there, you should be able to see what is on your iPhone and then can export out the playlists and then import them back to your library. I would also recommend backing up your iPhone before going through with this process. To export a playlist, have it highlighted then go to File > Library > Export Playlist…

Open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. Select the option to prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.

  • Need help backing up songs from iTunes on DVD and external hard drive

    Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me with this. I want to make a back up of all the songs I have in iTunes. I want to save them to a DVD as well as my external hard drive. Can you please give me detailed info on how to do both of these things?
    Thank you in advance!
    Brenda
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

In Itunes set burning preferences to DATA CD/DVD
Create a playlist called "Backup", put all your track into it, make sure that all checkboxes are selected.
    Burn that playlist
Assuming that you are using standard folders for storing your music:
Through finder navigate to ./Users/YourUserName/Music - now drag the folder "iTunes" onto your ext. drive.

  • When backing up songs to a CD, will it save the Album Art?

One of the BEST advancements to iPod and iTunes has been the Album art.
But how do we save album art to a back up CD?

Album Art is stored in each individual song file as an ID3 tag. As long as you have art imbedded within the file and save (or backup) that file, you will retain the Album Art.
    FYI:
Song attributes stored directly in each music file are as follows: Artist, Album, Song Title, Year, Comments, Compilation tag, Lyrics, Genre , Grouping, Composer, BPM, Album Artwork, Bit Rate & Kind (Both not tags - inherent to the file itself).
Song attributes stored in the iTunes Library database file only are: Playlists, Ratings, Play Count, Last Played, Date Added, Date Modified, Equalizer, Volume Adjustment.

  • How Do I Back up Songs on ITunes

I'm going to have to erase my hard-drive and reinstall Windows. All the songs I have on iTunes are currently backed up on many CD's, but is there a way to save my entire iTunes library on an external hard-drive so when I get Windows reinstalled I can just copy the library back into iTunes (so I don't have to upload them all from the various CD's)?

The safest way to move all of your music and your library is this:
    1. Change your iTunes Music Folder location in iTunes preferences > Advanced > General to be a new folder on the EHD.
    2. Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu.
This will copy all of the files in your iTunes library to the folder you created on the EHD, regardless of where they are.
    3. Copy the iTunes Library file from your (My)Music\iTunes folder to the EHD.
Now you'll have the iTunes Library file and all the media files themselves on your EHD.
    4. Once you have Windows reinstalled on your main hard disk, open iTunes. It should be empty at this point.
    5. Quit iTunes, connect the EHD, and copy the iTunes Library file from the EHD to (My)Music\iTunes, replacing the empty one that iTunes just created.
    6. Open iTunes, and try playing one of your files to make sure iTunes can find it.
    7. Check the iTunes Music Folder location in iTunes preferences > Advanced > General to make sure it is the default: (My)Music\iTunes\iTunes Music. If it isn't, change it so that it is.
    8. Choose Consolidate Library from the Advanced menu again. This will cause iTunes to copy all the files from the EHD to the iTunes Music Folder location on your computer.
    9. Disconnect the EHD, verify the files still play in iTunes, and then have a beer.

  • Backing up songs on iPod????

Hi there, I want to send my iPod off for repair but I also want all my songs so when it returns I can reload all the songs back on it. Does anyone know how to save the songs off the iPod onto the computer or CDROM's so I can keep all my music???
    Thanks alot people!!!

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
