Slidehow feature in Finder, missing images

Hello, very recent "switcher" here.
I can't seem to get the Finder slideshow feature to work properly. I select column view in Finder, then all the images in the folder and select the sideshow action, but the slideshow only ever picks up a portion of the images (e.g. maybe only 50 out of 288). This is noticeable when I escape out of the slideshow to thumbnail view. I expect to be able to see all the images (like in Windows Explorer). Maybe I am missing something but I expected this to work. Seems this was noticed by others in 10.4.6 (I have 10.4.10), see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2687662 and it wasn't resolved within that thread. The images are a mixture of png, bmp, jpg and gif but the slideshow doesn't seem to be leaving out any given type.

Actually, it should show 99 out of 288. The Finder's slideshow feature is limited to 99. However, the application Preview has no such limitation. Select your 288 pictures, control or right click and then, instead of selecting Slideshow select "Open With" and pick Preview. Another advantage of Preview is that you needn't make the selection in Column view, you can use List or Icon view, then when Preview opens control or right click in the drawer and select the sort order you want (even though "name" says it is selected, it isn't, just re-select it, or select something else, such as date). When they are arranged in the order you want go to the Preview menu item View and select Slideshow.

  • Lightroom 3 not finding my images on new External Drive I copied them in the MAC finder..bad I know

I recently bought a larger external drive and did a copy of all my files, including my catalog, via my MAc finder..I know now this was a clumsy way to do things.
I don't want to go through another copy session within LR.lotsa files.
I've done "find missing photos" but now I don't have a clue as to what to do.
Right clicking doesn't show anything relevant.
    Sort of stuck..help?
    Thanks,
    Pete

None of that right clicking was working...except for "find missing images"//which it did..but then I had a collection of "missing images" and had no clue what to do with them
Last night before I went to bed I decided to change the name of my new external drive to the exact same name as the drive I copied the images from....and it worked perfectly. Lightroom grabbed everything and I was running again.
Im a bit uneasy about that solution tho..

  • SOLUTION to find Missing Frames in an Image Sequence

Here's blog post about how to find exactly which frames are missing in an image sequence. Since AE only says that you have x number of frames missing and if your sequence is 1000s of frames it is quite tedious to try to locate them.

  • Mysterious missing images

    Hello,
I'm fighting a TERRIBLE problem with my Aperture library and I'd love to see if any of you might be able to help. I've got a library with about 40,500 images. All of them are referenced and I've moved through a couple of different storage drives over the years. I just ran a "manage referenced files" on my whole library and it shows that I have about 600 missing files, spread across three offline drives.
The problem with this is, I don't use those drives any more and I can't find where the missing images are!! I went through every project and did a search for missing images and no project shows a missing image. It only shows itself when I run "manage referenced files." I would just ignore this and use my library normally but it rears its ugly head in one other place: project exporting.
I tried to export a project with 556 masters to put on a laptop. The export gave me an error that some referenced files wouldn't be copied. Problem is, I ran a search for missing or offline referenced files and it returns Zero. I exported the project with the "consolidate referenced images feature" and imported it into my laptop. The 556 images are there, not managed and looking good. If I run a smart search for reference files it doesn't return any. BUT If I run "manage reference files" on the library on my laptop it shows four missing files! It's crazy, I have no clue what's going on.
rebuilt all of my libraries, I've looked at the image folders in the project and I can't figure out what's going on. Can anyone help?

No luck on the smart album, I tried it and it reports no missing images:
    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3289/24218107220895a27c5fo.png
I also tried the opposite and searched for online images and got 556, the correct number.
The problem occurs when I click on the library and run "manage referenced files", this is what I get:
    http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2107/242099628501416543c1o.png
The thing is, the 556 images in this library are ONLY managed - there shouldn't be any referenced images. If you notice, that screen shot shows a master file with the name IMG_1151, but if I run a smart search on the project for "1151" I get no results:
    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3050/242099643102bbf57fbfo.png
So there are four "phantom" images that are reported as in the library that don't really exists. So frustrating! I'd love your other ideas for how to squash this bug.

  • Updating/Find Missing *Drive* Query

    Good day to you all
I'm looking for a way to apply the "Find Missing Folder.." function to the actual drive. Essentially using the Drive letter as the parent "folder" to sync all subfolders and update all the image paths.
    The scenario;
I had all my photos on a local drive "W:".
They are now all on a network drive - we'll call this \\NAS\Photos (where photos is the share name on the network drive)
I can manually go through the "missing" folders from W: in the left pane of the library and "Find Missing Folders.." one at a time. This works.
However, I have about 100 folders so this is very time consuming.
The folder structure is exactly the same, what I would like to do is update the DRIVE path so I can preserve all of the LR edits.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

So what exactly are you doing....are you trying to relink one of the missing folders to the parent folder on the NAS? Is the parent folder showing in the Folders Panel in Lightroom's Library module? If it is, that's the folder you should relink to the equivalent parent on the NAS.
If, however, the parent folder is NOT showing in the Folders Panel, then right-click on any of the "missing" folders and select "Show Parent Folder"....that should add the parent folder to the folders panel, so that you can then relink with a single "Find Missing Folder" command (the ability to show a parent folder for missing folders was a new feature in LR4, you couldn't do that in previous versions).

  • Apple Support feedback on Missing Image - might be helpful for others

    Hi Roger
Here is my last correspondence with you yesterday:
    Me:
Hi Roger can you check my feed for error also.
I submitted my podcast (Off The Post Podcast) 6 weeks ago. I've been pretty patient but still no artwork in the store.
    RSS FEED:
    http://toepoke.hipcast.com/rss/offthe_postpodcast.xml
    Hipcast is my host.
    You:
you have the image correctly referenced in your feeds, so there isn't really anything more you can do. A number of people have complained recently that their images are not appearing. It always takes some days for it to appear, but things do seem worse at the moment.
I'm afraid all you can do is wait unless you would like to try contacting iTune Support (though I have to say I don't expect you will get much help: go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.
Heres the feedback I managed to squeeze out of Apple. Can you corroborate it and if so - in laymans terms - how can I fix it? How do I get access to the massive list of my feed details. At the moment - i can only find my Rss.
    Apple:
Although this is not included under the iTunes Store billing title, this is one of my personal interests so I have researched your RSS feed in depth for you. I was unable to locate the following tag:
    <itunes:image href="___" />
And while looking into your feed, it doesn't look like our example feed, which may be a result of your podcast host (hipcast.com), if they produce the feed for you. You may need to contact them regarding this as well.
Many thanks for the speedy responses on this frustrating issue for many, all appreciated here
    Ben

Firstly, there are two separate issues here, so let's not get them confused. The missing image is a problem at the itunes Store end: the feed is present and correct in your tag. You're not the only person with this problem - it seems pretty widespread. I'm sorry I can't offer any further advice, but there isn't anything you can do, and I'm sorry that iTunes Support is not being helpful.
If you want to move your feed to Feedburner, that's fine - Feedburner provides statistics, which iTunes doesn't - but it won't make any difference to the image problem: indeed it will make matters worse since if there is a backlog queue you will go to the back of it.
If you want to move the feed to Feedburner you need to follow the procedure detailed here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing
(If you can't easily do the 301 redirect bit, don't worry about it, it's really only for programs other than iTunes - just add the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag as described). You will not lose subscribers by doing this: make sure to leave the old feed up for at least two weeks - the Store will update quite quickly but this is for the benefit of subscribers. And double-check you have typed the new URL correctly in the tag - if you make a typo you won't be able to retrieve the situation.
Don't remove and resubmit. You will lose your subscribers, and you will make a lot of problems for yourself. Don't do it.

  • Missing images in Word Document

I am having a problem with some missing images when I
generate a Word document from RoboHelp HTML. I have seen similar
problems in these forums and have tried the solutions without
success. I have Word 2002 SP3. I have images in my document that
have conditional tags applied to them. Up until now, I have not had
any trouble with them generating in Word. I added some more images
(using RH to import them into my doc) and I set up the conditional
tags to print those and not the others. In some cases, the images
are generated and in others they are not. There is no X in its
place just a blank line. I have tried erasing the .CPD file and
re-generating. I have tried removing and re-inserting the image.
Also, if I generate the html web help, the images are all there. No
problem. I have tried embedding the images and using links and get
the same result. I have not tried to just generate the PDF because
I need to tweak the document in Word first before generating the
PDF to make everything look good.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Robohelp. That didn't
help either. The image properties all have none (not left or
right). I am running out of ideas to solve this problem. Everything
worked great before so I can't figure out what could possibly be
wrong especially since the webhelp is fine. I also tried moving the
project to my C drive. No change either. The project usually
    resides on a network drive.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it since I have a
document to print for a customer ASAP! Thank you in advance.
    Evelyn

I have been suffering with this problem of missing graphics for some time, even with RoboHelp 8. However, it now seems that I have found the answer and just in case anyone else is still having this problem I thought I would share what worked for me.
After doing some Google searching I found the web site: http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_graphics.htm where the following solution was offered for problems with Mail Merge graphics:
"If you find that on merging to a new document the resulting paths have been changed to something like: {INCLUDEPICTURE"../,./../program%20files/My Program/ProductPictures/ImageName.jpg"\*MERGEFORMATINET} and the merge does not work correctly:-
(In Word 2003) Select Tools > Options > General > Web Options and uncheck "Update links on save""
Whatever this has to do with anything I do not know, but it magically fixed my problem and all images are now appearing in the RoboHelp Word output.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Lightroom 3 Can't Find My Images

I use several external hard drives for my images and they occasionally get moved either to another folder or to another hard drive.  When this happens, Lightroom can't find the image so I go to the image in its new location and Lightroom finds it and all its neighbors.  That worked great in Lightroom 2 but does not work at all in Lightroom 3.  I can't change the original file folder structure at all.  Lightroom can't find the image even though I'm clicking on it.  Then I try to click a bit harder and eventually start pounding on the keyboard and shouting at Lightroom, "It's right here!"  Any suggestions or bug knowledge regarding this?
    Thanks,
    Richard

If you right click on the folder in the navigator and choose Update Folder Location, this will not work in LR3 running Mac OS 10.6.4.
This should definitely work! What is happening if you do that, and what are your detailed steps?
... Also, if you right click on an image thumbnail and choose Show in Finder, then reset your image path from the dialogue box, this will not work either.
As noted here, this seems to be a bug.

    Edit:
If you move an entire folder from outside LR, you should get a "?" right next to the folder, and the option "Update Folder Location" is not availble, but "Find missing Folder". If you only move some images from one folder to another, "Update Folder Location" is not the correct way to go.

  • IWeb site update problem-app missing images/files, but site is ok

I created and uploaded a web site to my .mac (yeah, MobileMe) and it displays just fine. I have visited it from a couple of different comps. The problem is that I want to add/update files/pages, but when I open iWeb, several of the images/audio files do not display: shows a x-through and a centered question mark. They are in the sites idisk folder and in the laptop's copy of the files. When I try to replace the missing images/files by dragging onto the iWeb drafting page the following message appears: "the file can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it contains no content or was corrupted."
I'm afraid to make any updates for fear of losing what is already published.
Extra info: have family pack and am switching between .mac accounts because iWeb published to the iDisk corresponding to the account/sub-account you are logged into (BIG pain in the ***! It should have a password protected account toggle like Panther used). I have double-checked that the files for this site are only in the one iDisk account (am redirecting my masked domain url to the .mac iDisk server-works great.
    Any ideas?

The upgrade from '06 to '08 which changed the domain.sites to a domain.sites2 caused more confusion, disasters and lost web sites than the bug ridden introduction of '09.
I ended up rebuilding all my sites from new, blank domain files in '08 and the conversion to '09 went OK apart from '09's nasty habit of changing media file links.
Fortunately, I have very little QuickTime content and don't use the iWeb Photos, Albums Blog or Podcast templates.
Most iWeb built sites look pretty awful when users stick to the default page width. I start from a Blank, Black or white page and trash everything on it.
I use the "standard" 980 px page width and most, if not all, of the iWeb themes do not adapt to this.
This is why I constantly ask the question. "Do the iWeb developers actually build any websites with the application?".
Perhaps if they did, we would get more bug free releases and some of the features that "real life" users are requesting.

  • Missing Images in WebHelp (RH6)

I have built a WebHelp guide of 130 topics. When I first
start to view it, all is well. I stepped through several topics in
the Browse sequence, all OK. I used the Search box and found a few
topics. Selected OK. Then select the Index tab, then Contents tab,
and then the problems start. ALL the larger images fail to appear.
The white space is there on the screen, but no pics, and these are
a mix of GIFs, animated GIFs and PNGs. Most of the smaller images
(say, smaller than about 150 x 250 px) appear OK.
(I am viewing these in IE7, running under Windows XP with all
latest updates; fast Pentium 4 + 1.5Gb RAM, hot 256Mb graphics
    card).
If I right-click on a missing image, and select Properties,
it shows the filename, but the file size reports "-1bytes".
On one occasion, I noted that the progress bar at the bottom
of the IE7 screen was stuck trying to load images, and some of the
    skin graphics ewre missing too.
If I close the WebHelp and load it again, everything works
OK. Until I repeat this sequence.
Has anybody got any ideas? This problem happened on another
computer, so it's not just this one.
    H-E-E-E-E-LP!!

    Hi Leon and Harvey,
Thank you for your observations and thoughts.
    1. Copying images: Investigation. Open a topic in RH and
click on an image in the WYSIWYG tab. Now switch to TrueCode view.
You can see highlighted the exact code that it will copy. Example:
    <img src="actions1.gif"
    x-maintain-ratio=TRUE
    style="border: none;
    width: 319px;
    height: 204px;
    float: none;
    border-style: none;
    border-style: none;"
    width=319
    height=204
    border=0>
--- (The code should be indented as in TrueCode view, but
this forum page does not support tabs or multiple spaces).
So, clicking on an image in WYSIWYG correctly picks up the
filename reference, aspect ratio, exact size, borders etc.
    - Copy and paste this text to NotePad, so you can refer back
    to it in a moment.
    - Now return to WYSIWYG, click on the image and use Ctrl_C
    copy.
    - Switch to another topic and Ctrl_V paste the image
    somewhere convenient.
    - Click on the image, and look at the TrueCode page.
The code has copied across exactly as on the original topic -
compare with the code in NotePad.
Now save the topic (you can delete the image later).
Next, select the Project tab, bottom left. Look in the Images
folder and find the image you just copied. Double-click to open the
Image Properties, and select the "Used In" tab. You can see the
image correctly registered in the two topics.
Conclusion: Copying and pasting images takes the exact code
from one topic and pastes it into another; so I do not understand
why there should be a problem; these are only HTML web pages, after
all - unless there's a bug in the RH background database
    interfacing?
    2. Resizing images: Although it is possible to drag the
corner of an image to resize it, I teach people not to do this, as
the image quality suffers badly, and it renders the image
unreadable sometimes. I resize in Paint Shop Pro if I must; but
prefer to take a cropped area of a real-scale screenshot if I can.
The RH Help Guide claims that RH supports PNG; and why not?
It's just an HTML web page. Something is deeply wrong somewhere if
this is happening... The mystery remains: is it just a PNG
    problem?

  • Missing images in folders

Does anyone else have this issue:
Sporadically, a folder within my library will not display any of the images from that folder. Usually it happens during intense processor usage. For instance, when I geotagged 500 photos, the computer gave me the beachball then the images were missing from their folder. When I place my cursor over the folder with the missing photos, it still tells me how many versions there are, but no images actually show up in the browser. If I go to the main library folder, I can find all of the 'missing' images.
The only way I've been able to make the images visable in a folder is to create a new folder, then drag and drop all of the images from my main library into the new folder.
Is this a known problem and are there any fixes known as of yet?
    Thanks in advance!

You have probably moved the files outside of Lightroom. The images you see in LR are previews that were made before you moved the files.
Do a search for the files/folders using your computers operating system. (Explorer/Finder)
Once you have found them, you can point LR to the right location.

  • Missing images in "all projects view" and System Pref- Desktop!

I was about selecting the image pick for my projects in the Aperture's all projects view to find out that some of my picture are missing.
I had verify that the image I was looking for is actually in my project and isn't rejected. I even perform a library rebuilt, but still a few of my pictures aren't showing up in this view. Anyone is also having this issue, know why or how I could fix this?
beside, I also have a similar issue of some pictures not showing up in the System Preferences under Desktop. All my Aperture's project are there, but not all pictures aren't showing up. By the way, the missing pictures there aren't the same as the ones not showing up in the "all projects view".

The thumbnail you are scrubbing across with the mouse is only 156 pixels wide on the screen. If you have more than 156 images in the Project it'd be pretty complicated to show every single one. As far as I can see the All Projects view is there to give you a quick overview of the Project content, but isn't designed for 'detailed' browsing.
Find the image you want in it's Project, Right/Control-click and choose 'Make Key Photo'.

Only images that have had Previews generated will show up in other applications. Have you made sure that the Previews are up to date?

  • Finding missing photos when drive letter has changed

I have over 30,000 missing photos because LR only recognizes drive letters not names.  All my drives have a master "Image" directory with folders and subfolders.  Going to the LR online directory with name change and right clicking images and finding folder location does not work.  LR does not recognize folders or subfolders in the drive with a name change.  Usually none of the folder names are high lighted. By going to the "Missing Photographs" in the catalog menu and searching by file name I can find individual files but with over 30k missing files, this approach is not practical. I have an HP computer with Windows 7 and LR 5.7.  How do I find the photos?

I think the most straightforward way to sort this out is:
    1. Plug in all of your external drives.  From the screen shots, it looks like you have at most 5 external drives of interest, 2 that are currently online and 3 that are disconnected.  (I'm not counting the one external drive letter that has just one photo on it.)  How many external drives do you actually have?
    2. If you don't have enough USB ports, order a $12 USB hub from Amazon.
    3. Make sure the entire folder hierarchy for each drive is showing in the Folders pane as described here. When you're done, each drive in the Folders pane should have a top-level folder labeled with a drive letter (as with your F: drive in the screenshot above).
    4. Expand the entire folder hierarchy on each drive in the Folders pane by clicking the arrows to the left of the folder.
    5. For each drive, find one or more folders in its hierarchy that are closest to the top that have a "?" on them.  It may be the root folder labeled with the drive letter (e.g. "F:"), or it may be folders below the root folder.   For each such folder with a "?", right-click it and select Find Missing Folder.  That folder should be somewhere on one of the drives.  Use Windows File Explorer to help find where it is.
    6. When you're done with step 5, you should have located all missing folders and told LR where they are currently located.  But you may have missed some.   Do Library > Find All Missing Photos.
    7. Pick a photo from step 6.  Right-click it and do Go To Folder In Library.  If the folder in the Folder pane is marked with a "?", right-click it and do Find Missing Folder.   Otherwise, click the "!" on the photo and then click Locate.  Use Windows File Explorer to help find the missing photo by filename, if necessary.  Repeat until there are no more missing photos.
    8. Going forward, try to keep all your external drives connected.  To minimize drive-letter confusion in the future, rename the drive letters of the existing external drives to start from the end of the alphabet, changing each drive letter as described here.   When you change a drive letter, you'll need to re-locate its root folder as described in steps 3-5.   (Windows tends to use drive letters from C onward.)

  • Missing Images Grey Box with ?

Have tried drills to view inserted images in 4-page Pages doc, going thru Finder to view, reinsertion of images, trashed com.apple.iwork.Pages.plist,,reinstalled iworks '05 CD, upgraded to 1.0.2, read copious discussions from gurus, still no joy. Images I inserted still there, elusive as ever which remain hidden with that ugly "X" and "?" when reopening doc. Am Mac addict from day one, average Mac user, not tech guru, programmer, developer but need step by step instruction for my low-level 83-year-old comprehension. Pages works o.k. with glitches but the missing image grey box with X and ? reared its ugly head last April and still with me on occasion. Finish 4-page Pages monthly Newsletter 5 meg doc with about 15 inserted jpeg images, "save as" for local distribution printing plus "pdf" for e-mail transmission, print it but when reopening doc after closing I get the grey box with X and ? for my inserted images and have to start over. Images I inserted originally still there opening thru Fiinder viewing "Package Content". Ran G5 Hardware CD test, no problem. From discussions I noted one solution that worked by uncompressing "index.xml.gz" file. Tried that with Stuffitt which didn't work. Am unable to view to see if my images were corrupted as the Discussion Guru "Sylvain Pedneault" outlined on Sep 15, 05, that his images had property sf:corrupt="true". Could be that's my problem if I knew how to determine and fix. I've hit a firewall and am patiently waiting for Apple Pages gurus to resolve this issue still unresolved which I'm confident they will, but at my age I don't buy green bananas. My frustration level is maxed out and will appreciate help in simple step by step language as a work-around until Apple Pages comes thru with upgrade. If I make it thru the Pearly Gates, not guaranteed, I'll put in a good word for the Guru who can resolve my problem!! Thanks.

    Hello Jim,
If you want to uncompress a "index.xml.gz" file, try this way:
    a) Copy the "index.xml.gz" file to your desktop, so you are not working with the original file.
    b) Start from "Applications/Utilities" the program "Terminal".
