Slidelet "X" box

Morning all.
I've done a search aided by the esteemed Rod Ward but have been unable to find a suitable answer for this issue.
I have a set of rollover slidelets that contain Text Captions on a slide. Once these rollovers have been rolled over the "Next" button appears so the learner can move on.
I have set the boundary box and slidelet borders to "off" so that they are invisible however I get the stupid "X" colsure box still come up with the slidelet.
No seeing as my slidelets are rollovers only this is a pointless box that occasionally even obscures some of the text in the text caption itself.
So, the question is..... Is there any way to get rid of them?
Previously someone has mentioned that a widget could do it, but the link in the message was down.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers

  • Using Click Boxes and Rollover Slidelets on same frame issue

    Hi all,
We are building a series of practice simulations, where the learner performs X steps to complete a software task.  Each frame of the sim begins with a Task box that displays for a moment, then disappears.  If the learner cannot remember the task, there is a Task button that has a rollover slidelet assigned to it, that when rolled over, displays the initial Task box.  This all works fine.  However, if the learner clicks on the rollover slidelet, rather than rolling over it, the click box on the page sees that as an attempt, and displays the Incorrect feedback box.
I have set the rollover slidelet properties to no action for both Onclick and OnRollover, and have placed the rollover slidelet to be on the top layer of the frame, but I cannot prevent the Click box from seeing when the learner clicks on the Rollover slidelet field.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Steve R

Just to answer to something in your last sentence: even if each slide has a unique text, you could insert a user variable in the rollover text on the Master slide, and populate that variable on each slide with an On Enter action (command Assign). In this blog post I used such a work flow:

  • Can I change a slidelet's close box?

Is there any way to create a close box that matches my theme instead of that ugly plain black and white close box that appears by default?  Looked in all the galleries and everywhere and can't seem to find a way to replace or use another icon for that close box.

Not possible AFAIK. I know that it is ugly...

  • Button/click box click more than once

Hi, I'm hoping you guys can point out what I'm doing wrong...
I have an image where the user can click on certain parts of
it to display a callout. However, I want them to be able to click
on the area of the image more than once if requried. I suppose you
can say it's a bit like an image map.
First I used click boxes to achieve this, then I tried using
transparent buttons. However for both of these methods you can only
click on each part once during playback. Clicking again does not
    show the callout.
I thought about copying the contents to another slide and add
a 'Reset' button the user could click on. This would move to the
other slide, but this seems a bit on the 'clunky' side, so I
thought there must be a setting or something really obvious that I
have missed. I was unable to find the relevant informaiton in the
help file or elsewhere in the forum, so if it does exist I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
How can I allow the user to click on parts of the image more
than once to show the callout?
    Thanks for your help,
    Liz

    Thanks for your reply Rick.
I started the activity using rollovers, but I wanted the user
to do something more definite than just hovering over each part of
the image. So essentially, I want the rollover functionality but
with the ability to click instead of just hovering the cursor over.
I thought this would be easy!
I've tried using both buttons and click boxes without any
success. I ventured a little into slidelets, but I want the callout
to appear in a very specific place and this did not appear to
satisfy my requirements. The 'click to stick' sounds intriguing so
I'll take a look into this, but I'm not convinced it's what I want.
Any more suggestions are most welcome.
    Regards
    Liz

  • Presentation converted from powerpoint not playing proper duration or recognising click boxes

Captivate 5.5 publishing a project coverted from a powerpoint, slides do not pause for the click box when published simply play for a second or two then move on?  This is a presentation created originally in Cap 5 It worked perfectly. opening it to add some content and previewing in 5.5 is fine . only when and however it is published the slides do not wait for a click or play for set durations. Rather a random problem has anyone else encountered this and solved it.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
That is a whole bunch of questions in a terminology that is totally different from the Captivate terminology. I was wondering if you even have tried at least one tutorial coming with Captivate to have some idea of the way it works? I'm sure you can achieve this in Captivate, am prepared to help but, sorry to sound a bit rude, this is a user forum, not a Captivate training place. You can meet other users here that will try to help you, like you could help others.
All can be done in Captivate, I try to suggest solutions:
For the 'slide list' you can use the Table of Contents, either in separate or in overlay mode, group the slides and collapse the slide groups; in that way the user will only see the group names and if you allow Enable navigation he can use this TOC for navigation
You can import Powerpoint slides, I do not understand why they should play in a box? Do all the timing in Powerpoint and when importing choose the option to play Automatically
You can insert slide video (there is a fine tutorial about it), and eventually resize it and add Text captions.
It is not clear where or what you want with the Text Captions, on individual slides or on top of imported PPT slides ... Of course you can add Text Captions, even rollover Captions/Images or whole slidelets with all possible combinations
You can publish to a SWF-file that will get an accompanying HTML + JS-file and upload those on a webserver, a LMS. Or you can publish to a multimeda pdf.
My apologies if my remarks did offfend you,

  • Click boxes (alternatives or show a border around them?)

    Regarding insert\standard objects\click box:
Currently I don't know of a simpler (in terms of efforts/steps involved) way to create 'slide-over' or 'pop-up' boxes or hyperlinks.
The only caveat to using click boxes is that you cannot color them or automatically include a box around them.
Just so there is no mistake, click boxes include a text box, which automatically appears when the mouse is rolled over the active area. On the other hand, roll-over slidelets allow colors and borders, however, they do not include a pop-up text box. A text box can be added but that requires additional effort.... which ultimately slows down development.
    Thanks

    Ahhh okay. Gotcha
This is where you would want to use a Button. Note that there are three types of Buttons. You choose the type in the Button properties. You may use an Image Button where you specify three different images to use. A Text Button, where you simply supply the Text to use. And the last type I personally never use. But in this case it sounds like you may want it. The Transparent button.

  • Object grouping options other than slidelets?

    Hi all, new user here:
I've been using Captivate 5 for a few months and am running into an issue.  I have had success using the rollover slidelets to group various items together and use the slidelet timeline to arrange them as needed: usually this consists of a flash animation demonstrating the actions, simplified text captions outlining each step, and detailed audio narration to elaborate on the actions.
What I do not like here is that the user needs to keep hovering over the rollover box.  I dislike the "stick slidelet" fix because it stays there the entire time and it is possible to pause the flash video while the text captions and the audio continue on, fouling the whole thing up.
    My questions are these:
    - Is it possible to group or create a timeline for a specific group of objects outside of a rollover slidelet?
    - Is it possible to trigger a slidelet to become visible and play through a standard button click as opposed to a rollover slidelet?
    - Is it possible to time items as part of a conditional/dependent chain i.e. show the video, start the audio, display text caption #1, and then only show text caption #2 when the flash animation/audio reaches a certain point?  I know I can attach the narration directly to the flash animation but the user can still pause that while the text captions continue on.
    Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum,
No Grouping for the moment in Captivate, but I wonder if you need grouping for what you are describing?
Isn't it all about timing? And do you need to have everything on the same slide, you could also navigate to a slide with a button or an advanced action.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your questions but your last item is clearly just about timing objects on the timeline, not? Why do you use rollover slidelets for that goal? You can give the objects that you want to group the same timeline, start at the same time and have the same duration. Why is that not an option?
If you want some objects to appear on a button click, make them invisible in the properties panel and create a standard advanced action, to be attached to the button, that will show all the objects.
I will be happy to help you, but then I have to know what exactly you want to achieve.

  • Using the Click Box

    Hello:
I've created an e-learning tutorial for some of our employees to learn about codes that we use for billing. I wanted to create an interactive experience, but its not working well.
First i created my image in PowerPoint (boxes/headings) and inserted them into Captivate and i then places a click box over top of it so once they click the description pops out.
    Issues:
I've selected "infinite", but i am only allowed to click on it once
the word/description caption doesn't stay open long enough for users to read
I don't want it to automatically go to the next slide, I want them to click on the "next" button to proceed, but that isn't working either. I don't know if to choose "continue, next slide, no action" for the On Success action
I noticed at the end of each of the click box on the time line there is a pause.
I've attached a screen shot - hopefully this will help...
I am currently using a Trial version, could this be the reason (I'm waiting for my full version in the mail).
Is there a chance that the "click button" isn't what i should be using? Maybe I should be using the roll over slidelet?
Finally, I've created branching, I have two sections and I've created 2 quizzes, is there a way to have a summary after each quiz? or is it the only the one i can have?
Please help because im stuck and not sure how to fix this.
    Thanks!

Trial or full version will both work the same, at least for this situation.
the click box is doing what it's designed to do, based on how you have the options set.  You have it acting like a scored object with the success/fail options in your screen shot.  Unfortunately, there isn't a way to manipulate the success caption's timing to make it stick around longer.
As Rod indicated to do what it sounds like you want to do, you need to create some advanced actions (which is pretty advanced for a new user) or use the rollover caption as he suggests.  This might help you with the actions:  http://lilybiri.posterous.com/playing-hide-and-seek-with-captivate-objects
    or these:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/12/captivate-training-creating-interesting-interacti vities-with-adobe-captivate-part-2.html
As for your quiz questions, Captivate only let's you make one quiz per project, so only one summary/score slide.  You could build your own again, with some advanced actions, but again that's pretty advanced for a new user.
    hope that helps.

  • Text entry box with double-click button - is this possible?

I need to produce a simulation in Captivate 3 where the user types in some text, then double-clicks a button to open another window.
With a normal text entry box the button doesn't seem to have the option to respond to a double click.
I can't add in an extra slide with a click box to simulate the double-click as I have icons that change colour with time on the first slide.
Are there any other ways of getting round this?

Thanks for the suggestion. That would work brilliantly normally, just not on this slide, unfortunately.
The reason for this is I have two hint icons on the screen - 1 shows a basic one then the second is a rollover slidelet with a clip of the correct action being performed. The first is on screen for a few seconds, then the second takes over.
The earliest I would be able to set the second click would be around 8 seconds in, to allow the second hint to appear before the text box pauses the slide. So anyone who immediately knew which area to click would have to click once then wait a while to make the second click.
It's annoying that the problem is of my own making by having the 2 icons, but as I've done this through a series of lessons, I can't really change it now.
I might just go ahead with the single click option (unless there's a double-click in C4? [hoping to get this soon!]) and hope that no-one notices that the screen changes a bit too quickly to really have registered the second click.

  • Is it possible to move slidelet close button?

So I know the good old 'X' box in the corner of the slidelet is a real bugbear for captivate users, but that's because it's completely broken. I can't upload an image because of the stoopid fXOing firewall in the building I work in, so I'll try to describe the problem: The X button appears to be fixed in a relative position roughly 400 pixels to the right  of the top-right corner of the slidelet.  I have isolated the exact step that causes the 'x' to shift:  This slidelet has a caption on it, and as long as it stays on the right-hand side of the slidelet it's fine.  But for every pixel that the leftmost edge of the caption passes to the left of the centre point, the 'x' moves one relative pixel to the right away from the slidelet's top right corner.  Absolutely fXOing ridiculous.
Therefore if I want to put it in a place where it (A) doesn't look stupid (B) fits all of the slidelet in the slide, the little x is off the edge of the parent slide by a good 60-100 pixels.  Is there a way to fix this that doesn't involve re-doing the entire project and advising my client to splash out on widescreen monitors for all the potential users of this learning module?
    ----------------------EDIT!--------------------------------------------
I have reproduced this error in a brand new project from scratch, except I was wrong about it being the same distance pixel-by-pixel. It appears to be related to the relative size of the objects and slidelet.
In the interest of being constructive and improving the software, I will provide this file if asked, but the trick will be that I will have to take it home and upload it from there, probably using a file-sharing host like mediafire or similar.
    ----------------------EDITx2!--------------------------------------------
So, never mind, I just re-laid the slidette to have the captions on the right. Will still submit the aforementioned file as a bug report when I get home tonight, if ever.

  • Rollover slidelets viewable more than once?

This is more a design focused question.
I'd like to create a review of a screen with a number of different buttons.  When the user moves the mouse of a particular area of the screen, a rollover slide should pop up with information about that particular part of the screen.  I'd like to set it up so the user can stay on that screen as long as they want and view each rollover slidelet as many times as they'd like.  The way it is right now, however, the rollover slidelet will show up, and then they're not able to see it again. Ideally they could mouse over it once, explore some other areas of the screen, and then return to it.  Is that feasible?  If so, how would I go about doing it?

The far easier way to do this is NOT to use slidelets but to use rollover captions or rollover image objects.  Slidelets are a pain in the proverbial it too many ways.
Just put a click box or button on the slide to pause it while allowing the user to move their mouse over the rollover hotspots on the slide to see information pop up as needed.  When the user is satisfied with the information they can just click to move forward again.
Much simpler to setup and maintain.

  • Pause timeline to allow multiple slidelets to play

I am using Adobe Captivate 4, what I am trying to do worked fine in 3, but for some reason doesn't seem to work in 4.
I have a slide with several Rollover Slidelets and I want the slide to pause until the user clicks on the Forward button in the playbar.  This gives the student the opportunity to click on each Rollover Slidelet and view the content then only move forward in the tutorial when they are done "playing" with the Rollovers.
What is happening is the slide is pausing as long as I don't roll-over or click on anything.  As soon as I click or rollover a Slidelet the tutorial advances to the next slide.  I can extend the timeline to 10 minutes but this skews the tutorial duration that displays in the menu and I have several of these in the project so what is a 30 minute tutorial looks like a 90 minute tutorial.
I am using the standard playbar and not custom navigation buttons.
Each Slidelet has the following properties:
    Rollover Slidelet Tab
If the user clicks inside the Rollover Slidelet - Stick Slidelet
    Options Tab
Timing - Display for - rest of slide
    Advanced Tab
When the mouse moves over the rollover slidelet - On Rollover - No Action (I have tried Continue also)
On each slide I have added a click box with the following properties:
    Click Box Tab
f the user clicks inside the click box - On Success - No Action
If the user clicks outside the click box - Allow User  - Infinite attempts
    Options Tab
Timing - Display for - Rest of slide
Options - Pause project until user clicks
Has anyone come accross this or have a solution?

    Hi there
I've seen it happen myself as well as having seen others report it. Usually the culprit is ActionScript3. The usual remedy is to configure the Advanced tab to no action. But you state you have already done this. Odd
Does it happen with ANY of the Slidelets? Or maybe it's just one of them. If you can isolate it to a specific Slidelet, maybe you forgot to configure the Advanced tab for that one Slidelet.
    Never hurts to double check.

  • Rollover slidelets

I have a series of rollover slidelets, each with advanced actions, so that once all slidelets have been visited (rolled over), a button should appear. I have a separate variable assigned to each rollover. My advanced action is set up with, If all the variables are equal to 1, the button shows. Also, for the ELSE condition, I am setting that particular variable for that rollover to 1. The problem I'm having is that once I visit all the rollovers, the button does not appear. The button will only appear if I re-visit any of the rollovers.

    Hi Lilybiri-
You have me confused as to what a tracking text container is? I think my images confused you so I have more screen shots.
The Advanced Actions are placed on the rollover part itself.
When item above have been rolled over, smart object with text appears on right.
The Advanced Actions are applied to each Rollover on the left side and here is example (I have on of these for each rollover)
For the above example Staffing to Crewed, when rolloved over the Advanced Action S2C is placed and look like below:
The items to "show" listed are invisible as they are a next button image, a next button click box with "Go To Next Slide" a next button rollover so when user rolls over the image it "toggles" from solid to gradient, and text caption with direction to "click next to continue.
I'm still unsure what you mean by test box container?

  • Captivate 5 hide stroke on slidelet rollover state

I'm struggling trying to figure out how to hide the stroke on the Rollover Slidelet box - not the content box you put things in. I see in properties there is a way to  hide the stroke - which works, but when I preview my Captivate 5 file and move my mouse over the Rollover Slidelet box area, the stroke shows back up! Very frustrating! I do not want a stroke on this box at any point in time. Is there a way to turn the stroke off so that is does not show on the rollover?
    Thanks in advanced!

    Hi there
Click the rollover area and look in the properties panel. Specifically, the section labeled Transition (for 5.0). There is an option called "Show Runtime Border" you probably need to disable by clearing the checkbox. In 5.5 it's called "Show Runtime Shadow" and is in the Fill and Stroke section.

  • Font change when I make a text box transparent

    Hi All
I have been using Captivate 4 for over a year and have just come across a strange event.
When I change a text box caption type from a coloured background, such as adobe blue, adobe pop up etc, to transparent, the font type and style change from what I originally had and I am unable to change it back.
For example I am using Verdana 12 black in adobe blue caption. When I change this to transparent the font style changes to something else, even though the application still says the font is Verdana 12 black. It is very obvious it is a different font to Verdana as the other text on the slide that has not been changed to transparent looks very different to the transparent text box font.
This font looks nothing like Verdana as it is smaller and thicker; it resembles Arial Black though it is not quite that either.
This change occurs when I am using a text box on its own or a text box associated with a roll over slidelet.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening, and should I post this in bug fixes?
    cheers
    thedarf

    Hi there
In addition to Lilybiri's advice, you can also typically achieve the desired effect by editing the Text Caption and positioning the cursor at the end of all text. Just press Ctrl+End to do this. Then press Enter a couple of times to introduce a couple of blank lines. Then format the last line as bulleted. After that, adjust the size of the caption so you don't see the bulleted blank line.
