Slider names change in Basic panel

When editing some images in LR4 the sliders in Basic are:
     Exposure
     Recovery
     Fill Light
     Blacks
     Brightness
     Contrast
With other images the sliders are:
     Exposure
     Contrast
     Highlights
     Shadows
     Whites
     Blacks
What is going on and how to I set the app to use the second set of sliders?
Thanks,
Ed

Process Version is the key - the first is either PV2010 or PV2003, the new PV is PV2012 and uses the new sliders.  You can change the process version of a photo at any time.

Why are clipping adjustments in the basic panel not being saved, updated or shown in the histogram? I am using LR 5.7 on a MAC OSX 10.8 etc.

Here is more information and hopefully a better explanation. My version of
LR-5.7 (OS X 10.8.5) apparently does not save the .NEF (Nikon RAW) edits
done in the basic module. That means that I can correct exposure,
highlights, shadows etc. but once I go to another picture and returned to
the edited one the histogram (on the edited photo) and specifically the
clipping triangles are white or some other color. This is normally suppose
to indicate that some channel or all channels are clipped in the
highlight/shadow areas. If I adjust any slider in the Basic panel even as
little as one +/- value or press the J-key, the histogram will now show the
original edit. Moving on to another photo and then returning to to
previously edited one and again the edits are "not saved" and I have to hit
the J-key or adjust a slider to see the previously edited information
    reflected in the histogram.
This is especially frustrating for fours reasons. If I have edited a shoot
and return to it I cannot see from the clipping information whether the
original edit was correct and of course I might re-edit it (to some now
incorrect value). This brings up the second issue synchronization. I can't
rely on it because if I go back to fine tune a specific image in the batch
the triangles are white or some other color for that and every image. I have
to hit the J-key to show/hide clipping or the back slash key to see
before/after previews. This is the third issue which is very time consuming
and inefficient regarding my workflow. The forth issue is that I have
noticed that normally when an image is saved in PS, LR adds a copy of the
saved version to its catalogue. I have noticed that the PS to LR saves are
all wrong in terms of exposure (they are much lighter in tone) than the
original LR edit and the PS edit on my screen. If I check the PS to LR photo
in LR I notice that the Basic panel values have been changed and that I have
to sync the image with the originally edited RAW/NEF LR file to get it to
    look the same.
Note 1). I am using an Apple cinema display and a calibrated Eizo ColorEdge
monitor to view my NEF files. I have reverted back to using LR 4 however I
am not sure if I should expect compatibility problems with Camera Raw 7.4 in
LR 4 vs. Camera Raw 8.6 in LR 5.
Note 2.) I am going to do an import converting everything to .dng  to see if
    this is a work around.
Note 3). I would be interested in knowing if this issue is related to the PS
RAW engine ver. 8.6, the Adobe created NEF calibrations or LR 5.
    Note 4). I have duplicated this issue in OS X 10.8.5, OS X 9.xx and OS X
    10.10.1
Hopefully someone else has noticed this problem. Any shared information
would be valuable. Thanks for the reply.

  • Computer Name changed to MINWINPC

We have about 200 computers that show their computer name as "MINWINPC". Doing an "ipconfig /all" shows the original computer name but doing a "net user" shows the computer name as "MINWINPC". In the control panel applet - the original computer shows but
the registry key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName shows as "MINWINPC". Users can still access the network but administrators are unable to remotely access those machines. The fix appears to be as simple as changing the registry
key back to the original computer name(and rebooting) but I would like to figure out what is causing the issue. Some of the machines seem to have the name change occur after they have received the latest round of patches from Microsoft after the reboot.
It is not happening to all our Vista machines. I have changed the computer name back the original, uninstalled all updates from the day of the name change and resintalled the patches but have been unsuccessful in recreating the problem. Any thoughts?

  • Why has the Whites slider name gone missing (LR 5.3)?

In LR 5.3 on Win7 64. In the Develop module, Basic panel, there are 4 sliders, named
    Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks.
At the moment, I have all four sliders, but the control name for Whites has gone missing.
The slider is there, it works (appears to), registers a numeric value...but it doesn't have a name.
Quite odd. Makes me wonder if a software resource file was munged or something.

Can you post a screen shot?
Also try removing the Preference file to see if that fixes it - the file can create all types of unusual errors.

  • Column name change in Interactive Reports

    Hi,
I am new to Interactive reporting. We have a report that is resulted from Essbase query. Now in the report, we want to change the column names which are basically the essbase dimension member name. Is it possible to chang ethe names per our requiremnet?
    Please help.

    Hi again,
I think that you may have posted your question in the wrong forum. This one is for Oracle Application Express and maybe that is the reason why you didn't understand my response. If your issue involves Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio or Hyperion reporting in general then you should ask in this forum instead:

  • BW Development Logical Name Change Impact

    Hi,
what is going to be the impact on our BW system (extraction / modelling / reporting) if we change the BW logical name.
Example:- BW Development current logical name is BWCL005
    New Name change to BW005.
    Can you please help
    Regards
    Rajiv

some of the impacts i can comment on are as above.
    1. wherever u have hardcoded logical name, there u have to modify to new name.
    2. regarding the RFC connection with other servers make sure there is there is 2 way communication with the every server, this is basically a BASIS task and needs to confirm with great care.
    hope it helps.
kindly assign the points if it helps.

  • In Module, the Basic panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

In Develop Module, the Basic Panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

When you say the Basic panel has disappeared, do you mean the whole right side panel or individual tools such as the White Balance tool is gone? If it is the whole right side panel that is missing, you may have hidden it. Using the Tab key, you can cycle between hiding and showing the side panels. You can also move your mouse over to the far right side of your screen to get the panel restored but it will disappear when you move your mouse off the panel. There is also a small triangle on the left edge of the right panel that you can right click on in order to determine the show/hide behavior (I personally use the manual mode).
Regarding the individual windows contained in the left/right panels, they can be opened and closed by clicking of the triangle that is displayed next to name of the tool in its header bar. While you can elect what modules will be shown on the LR Top panel, I am not aware of any mechanism to completely hide individual tools in the left/right panels. If all else failes, you can hit the Shift/Tab key combo a few times to restore all of your windows the the default behavior.

  • Editing Slide Names in TOC

I'm using Cap5 with the most recent patch installed. I've added lables to my slides, yet when they appear in the TOC, they only display as "slide 1", etc. I had to do some "creative editing" with some recorded slides so the numbering is rather odd (slide 1, slide 2, slide 12, slide 22, slide 3). I was certain I'd recently seen a tip on how to edit the slide names within the TOC but for the life of me, I can't find it. Does anyone know how to change the slide titles?
    Krista

    Hello Krista,
I think you added the TOC before you labeled the slides, right?
Use the small button (see screenshot, highlighted) to Reset the TOC. The slide labels will replace the current default names.

  • Computer name changes incrementally (1, 2, 3...)

    Dear Apple Friends,
I have an issue that is affecting all the Macs on my home network: 3 MacBooks (wireless) and an iMac (hardwired) connected to an Apple Airport Extreme dual-band 802.11n/a/b/g 5Ghz/2Ghz wireless router. All the Macs are running Yosemite 10.10, I am running firmware v7.6.4 on the Airport (latest version). We have turned on Back to my Mac, File Sharing, and Screen Sharing (all are used pretty regularly) in the Sharing screen.
So here is what is happening...
All the Macs on our network are having their computer names changed with the suffix of (1), (2), all the way to 6 now.
I have tried resetting our Airport router (turn off/on again) and that seems to stop it for a day but then it starts again.
A few days ago, I did a factory reset on the Airport router per the instructions on the Apple website (hold down reset until it blinks constantly) to clear the router. Sure enough, the names started changing again after about a day.
Sometimes, I will change the name back, and it will rename itself again automatically right after I change it. i.e. John's MacBook Pro => John's MacBook Pro (1)
I have gone so far as to reboot every Mac on the network, shutting off the router, then turning it on again, and the issue returns. I am going to try and set up a DHCP reservation next and see if that helps.
Has anyone else run across this? If so, is this a bug or is there something I'm missing here? Thanks you for your time.

    To "fix" I:
First, I turned off networking which was WiFi in my circumstance.
Next, I named my computer back to the original desired name in the "Sharing" system preference without the (n).
    Then I added a "--no-namechange" parameter in the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist.
    Unloaded and loaded the deamon:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Last, I reconnected to the network.
Now when I connect to the network instead of getting something like below in the Console.app:
"discoveryd: Basic Bonjour Changing computer name from <hostname> to <hostname> (2)"
    This appears in the Console.app:
"discoveryd: Basic Bonjour Would have changed computer name from <hostname> to <hostname> (2), but it's disabled"
I could not find a Yosemite bug filed https://bugreport.apple.com/, but this site helped me hack my solution:

  • InDesign Links / Path Name change on Mac

We have 5 Mac users on a windows domain using Adobe CC.  They are placing images in to files as links. They are continually getting the "This document contains a link to a source..." error.  The one commong thing I can find is that when looking at the path name in the links pane that it changes from user to user.
User one inserts link from a network drive that is properly mapped. Path shows (example) /Shared/Communications/Logos/Image1.jpg
User two or three opens the same indesign file and gets the link source error.  Path shows /Volumes/Shared-1/Communications/Logos/Image1.jpg
This was not happening in prior versions of InDesign. While I can't rule out a network or user issue, it's odd that the path name changes.  I checked the /Volumes/ folder and no duplicate names of the drives exist.  I have no idea why the path name is being modified when another user opens the file.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You should package you InDesign document. Use the packeged document. New files linked later after packagen copy to the Link folder, you can do it from the link panel with the command Copy links to, in German it is in a sub menu of Hilgfsprogramme, should be something like Help Programs, I don't know the exactly naming of that menu in the US version.

  • Podcast Name Change Questions

    Hello,
I've had an all-Canadian Music Podcast out for a year now and it's done well for a small podcast. However, I've decided to make some changes in hopes of reaching more listeners and a name change is being considered. I have a few concerns before doing this, so hopefully you guys can help.
Over the past year the show has surprisingly received 74 ratings and a lot of really nice reviews in iTunes. It has also found it's place in the iTunes "What's Hot" section and has stayed there for 6 months or so now. My concern with a name change is loosing ratings/reviews and the feature in What's Hot. It takes a lot of hard work to get recognition in iTunes and I don't want to throw away a year of efforts that made these small victories happen.
So, will changing the name have any effect in iTunes?
I use Libsyn as my host server and from there, changing the name is a simple process. I just want to make sure things won't change drastically in iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your help with this question!
    Cheers!
    Mike

There shouldn't be any problems. There may be a bit of a delay before the change appears in the Store but it won'ot affect anything - the basic identifier of the podcast is its ID number.

  • Basic panel disappeared from Develop module.  LR 5.7 Mac OS 10.10.1 Tried control clicking headers of panels that are still there.  Do not get a pop up list.  Can't find way to restore.  What should I do?

Basic panel in the Develop model no longer appears.  Started this afternoon.  Been using LR 5 since it came out.  No problem before today.  Searched forums and did the control click on develop module headers.  Check list doesn't appear.  What do I do next?  I did a Time machine restore but nothing changed.

I have now tried control click, command click, option click and combinations of these on 2 computers running the same lightroom versions, same Mac OS with the same result. No list of develop headers, no way to check/ uncheck.
LR on my MacBook has all the panels.  On my iMac Basic and Split Toning are missing.
The only result of clicking is collapsing or expanding the individual sliders under the headers.
My only thought now is to find the preference files for LR and delete them and see if the missing panels return.  Any other suggestions?

  • Basic panel and DNG files

Can someone explain to me why, when working on a .DNG file in LR4 (4.3, to be exact), your get a different set of sliders in the Basic panel than when you have, say, a .NEF file open? This is most puzzling, as I am working from Scott Kelby's book, which shows the Highlights, Vibrance, etc. sliders available with a sample .DNG file open, but when I open the same file,  in that panel I get Exposure, Fill light, etc. instead. If I then open a .NEF file, I get different sliders. Is this supposed to be this way? Confused...

Rob is correct, it's a question of Process Versions...but you need to understand that LR does NOT change the PV willie-nillie. If you had previous settings applied by a prior PV, LR will respect those setting. To get the most recent PV, OYU need to decide to do that. You can click on the PV warning in Develop or apply the PV update enmass by using a Preset...note, PV 2012 is almost always better then previous PVs, but not always (if you relied on some of the previous PV's artifacts which could sometimes work well). So I suggest doing the update image by image to confirm the PV 2012 is, in fact an improvement...

  • Basic Panel further improvements

I've played around with the new Development Basic Panel. Not easy at the beginning but quite consistent. I like the way the histogram is divided in sections and that these sections are logically organised in tools. I wonder if it's possible to go one step further :
    by having a TAT for these tools : we have it for the tone curve, why not for the Basic: for exposure, highlights, shadows, black and white? It could be time saving and maybe more intuitive to interact directly onto the picture;
by having a clipping overlay for all the sections, not only for the black and the white at the beginning and the end of the histogram; this way we could see wich part of the picture will be affected by each tool.
Sounds good (and possible) or what?

    HEAD Productions wrote:
I don't care for them to be arranged in the "workflow order" as Victoria Bampton has suggested. Each photo requires a different approach and an order that relates to the histogram would be of more help.
Well, you may as well adapt and adopt the current order because, believe me, they won't be changed from the order they are in with the current beta. The reason the order is what it is is because the engineers wanted the order to indicate the suggested order in which the controls are designed to be used. Even in early testing, the testers tried to fight the current order up to the point where over time, it was obvious that the current order was optimal for most images in PV 2012.
What you really need to do is forget how you adjusted images in the previous process versions and adapt your edits to the new PV 2012. While some of the controls may share a slight similarity with the previous controls, they are different enough that trying to use old logic for the new controls will only frustrate you.
Think of them as Exposure and Contrast being the main tools, Highlights and Shadows as fine tuning the previous adjustments by recovering highlights and opening up shadows and Whites and Blacks as the final tune to adjust the end points, if needed (often they aren't).
