Slideshow audio only partially copied to dvd

I created an idvd project containing 2 slideshows (with background music) & burned to a dvd-r. I had played the project in preview, before burning -- all seemed complete & played fine. But when played on my niece's dvd player, the background audio on one of the slideshows played only the instrumental portion (no singing). I haven't tried playing it on any other player. I've never experienced any similar problems.
I hope someone out there has some ideas -- I'm clueless. Also, I'm not very hi-tech -- so for me to understand & follow suggestions, please use basic, lo-tech wording. Thanx in advance for any advice you can offer.

Hello CJ and welcome to the forums.
Since there are differences among DVD players, I'd first verify that there is a problem and try the DVD in your computer and/or on another player.

  • How can I make an audio only CD from a DVD

I am really kind of new at this but my church makes DVD's of the services but some of my Sunday School teachers want to have a CD of the sermon.  Does iDVD have the capability to burn just the audio tracks onto a CD?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    No !
You first have to back-engineer the DVD to something the Mac can use eg StreamingDV
(I use Roxio Toast™ to do this) then convert this via QuickTime to .aiff 16-bit 44.1 kHz
then burn this onto a CD via eg iTunes.
An Analog copy from a DVD-player to the Mac Line-in and into an audiuo editor as Audacity (free on internet) then use this for the CD is easier and about as good as. (I can't differ)

  • IDVD slideshow audio sync off on burned DVD

Others have listed this problem, but no apparent solution. If this is a bug, has it been fixed in iLife'09?
Specifically, a slide show with a mix of photos and video clips late in the slideshow, all imported from iPhoto, advances the audio associated with the video clips several minutes relative to the video. The problem only shows up when the disc is burned, it is fine in preview mode,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have the slideshow setting set to mute the added audio when you play the video clips?
You might consider assembling the slideshow iniMovie HD 6 where you can precisely align the music where you want. Save and close iMovie and drag the project file into an iDVD slideshow (so you can scale the movie to the TV safe area).

  • Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • Copying DVD audio (only) into I-tunes

How do you copy the Audio content of a commerical DVD into I-tunes. Can you control the amount of compression?

    You don't.
Commercial dvd's are encrypted to stop you from copying them. Breaking the encryption is illegal.

  • I want to get audio only file from DVD-R. Please help.

I hope this is the right place to ask.
I have just completed copying a radio play from VHS to DVD-R.
(Recorded off air from high quality BBC FM onto VHS sound only in 1993)
The copy is a success inasmuch as I now have the high quality copy I desire and I can play it (via the DVD player) through the hi-fi with TV turned off.
However, I want to go further and load the DVD-R into my iMac and make an Audio only file of the soundtrack for use on my iPod for instance.
I have no idea if this is possible with the standard iDVD (or other software) on my iMac or how to even start.
I guess it would be equivalent to loading a standard DVD movie and making a file of just the soundtrack.
    Has anyone any ideas please?
    Thankyou.

If you used your computer as part of the VHS to DVD process, then you'll have a digital audio file that we can find, but I'm guessing you used a VHS to DVD standalone recorder. If so, you can use some free software called MPEG Streamclip:
    - insert your DVD, and Quit from the DVD Player if it starts automatically.
    - start MPEG Streamclip and open the DVD; then open the Video TS folder and open the first of the .VOB files (repeat this step until you find the file you're interested in).
    - use the Export to AIFF option and you'll have the audio file.
    - you'll be able to bring this file into iTunes, burn it to CD, etc.

  • Best way to play Audio only on a DVD with video?

I have a Meditavie DVD i am making with both video and Audio combined....and i want to make some tracks that are just Audio only
for close eye Meditations. ( i dont want to have to add a CD with the DVD for just Audio)
I made one years ago and just used black as the video output track.
Is there a way to save space and just have the audio track play?
And if so how might i do it and also link to the DVD menu?
    Thanks for any help!
    Soshman

Below is what I wrong before I tested the obvious. Just "import as timeline" the audio only (make sure there is no m2v with the same name); Encore happily builds a disk with black. Mediinfo shows the video stream, but it appears to be at a very low datarate. So, give it a try.  I did not burn a disk; just build to a folder and used a software player.
Other options: Encore slideshows have odd problems, I'd play with making a single slide (just black, right?) slideshow, maybe set to manual advance with no advance - or a very long duration to match the audio length.
If an m2v works better for whatever reason, Encore has a minimum bitrate, I think around 2.x or 1.x. So I would try exporting  from Premiere,10 seconds of black video using CBR 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and see if it matters.

  • Burn audio-only to DVD

I have the mini with Mountain Lion & a Macbook Pro with Mavericks. This question applies to both machines.
I have about 200 music CDs. Is it possible to burn them in an uncompressed format to a DVD using iTunes? If that isn't possible, is there Apple-compatible software that will do that? If it is possible, then I can reduce the number of CDs that I have. I have the super drive on top of the mini.

    macnerd48 wrote:
Each CD would be a separate playlist. I have about 200 CDs, so, I'd have about 200 playlists.
You could take a full disk image of every CD if you want a 'true' clone that will work with Gracenote lookups.
I hadn't thought about a disk image. I know that an image is a single compressed file. But I want an uncompressed file. Would creating a disk image be faster than burning each CD? I'm retiring in February so I'lll have plenty of time to do this.
Ripping into audio formats is convenient because you can just insert disks in & set iTunes to get on with ripping into whatever format you use.
You will need to make a Script or Applescript/ Automator action to make disk images as easily - it could be a fun project.
Disk image compression is different to audio compression bits are lost in audio compression/ conversion but disk image compression will look for patterns & store only one copy without actually degrading audio quality. I have no idea how much actual space it will save. You will need to do some testing before you invest time in it, I'm unsure if iTunes will lookup a mounted CD disk image, so my plan may be flawed.
I'd like to have all of my CDs on an external hard drive, but you know Murphy's law! Eventually the hard drive will crash. So, I'd have to backup the backup!
That is a good idea, in fact a HD is more convenient for duplicating 3 years down the line, disks don't live forever, and old connectors go away so rotating onto new media is the only option really. It depends on what level of archiving you are willing to go to.
That's important for me to know. What "other plugins"?
Tagalicious, SongGenie, CoverScout, and the weird open source 'MusicBrainz Picard'. I tried others, but settled on Tagalicious & Picard.
http://alternativeto.net/software/tagalicious/ (I have no idea what this will find).
Hard drives will eventually fail. SSDs have a limited number of read/write cycles & they are expensive. What about enterprise "quality" hard drives for storing all of my stuff, music, documents, etc?
If you can afford to do so get better quality HD's. Just have redundant copies whatever you decide.
I also use this to catalog backup disks…
    http://diskcatalogmaker.com
It can eat up tons or RAM with big catalogs, so you have to figure out what you need in each catalog.
Then you get into the whole issue of filenaming…

  • Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears.  Only happening with AUDIO attributes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip.  These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project.  This has worked before.  However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE.  Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time?  That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world.  Certainly this can't be true?  Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

  • Creating an audio-only stream from a live stream

I am using Flash Media Live Encoder (3.2) to send multiple bitrate streams to an instance of Adobe Media Server 5. In addition to the video streams, I am trying to generate an audio-only stream.
I am using the default 'livepkgr' application. The input stream contains H.264 video + AAC audio.
The stream name that I set in FMLE is set to this:
    livestream%i?adbe-live-event=liveevent&adbe-audio-stream-name=livestream1_audio_only&adbe- audio-stream-src=livestream1
I created a variant playlist to include the audio-only stream. It looks like this:
    #EXTM3U
    #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=150000
    /hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream1.m3u8
    #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=500000
    /hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream2.m3u8
    #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=700000
    /hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream3.m3u8
    #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:PROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=64000,CODECS="mp4a.40.2"
    /hls-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream1_audio_only.m3u8
However, when I retrieve the audio-only playlist it contains a list of .ts files. If it was working correctly I would expect there to be a list of .aac files. Here's an extract from the playlist (livestream1_audio_only.m3u8):
    #EXTM3U
    #EXT-X-MEDIA-SEQUENCE:1927
    #EXT-X-ALLOW-CACHE:NO
    #EXT-X-VERSION:2
    #EXT-X-TARGETDURATION:8
    #EXTINF:8,
    ../../../../hls-live/streams/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent/livestream1_audio_onlyNum1927.ts
    #EXTINF:8,
    ../../../../hls-live/streams/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent/livestream1_audio_onlyNum1928.ts
    #EXTINF:8,

    #EXTINF:8,
    ../../../../hls-live/streams/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent/livestream1_audio_onlyNum1930.ts
Any ideas why it doesn't seem to be working?

  • Delete partially copied movie file from iPhone. Shows grayed out in Videos on the iPhone but it doesn't show up in iTunes.

    Hello.
I have synced my iPhone 4S with iTunes and I got an error while copying one movie. Now this movie shows up grayed out in videos on the iPhone but NOT in iTunes. Hence, I cannot delete this partially copied movie from my iPhone. And since it is grayed out, the right-to-left swipe does not work. I have resynced with "no movies" option so that every movie would be deleted and indeed every movie was deleted except for the problematic one. I rebooted the iPhone several times in case it was a glitch. No success. I even tried tools like iExplorer and DiskAid but I cannot find this **** file. Is there any way to delete this partially copied file from the iPhone without having to restore it?
    Regards,

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

  • How do i copy a dvd movie to my hard drive

Can anyone please tell me how to copy a home made movie from DVD to my hard drive? I'm trying to add it to Apple tv, and it's in a TS format and I can do nothing with it. I mean, when I made it, I made a beginning, which my titles are sitting on. And I want to keep the part that is the beginning, and then be able to choose which title I want to see, but I can't get anything to copy the beginning, only copies the three videos. It's very important to have this beginning, or whatever it's called while I choose a title. I was told to copy the DVD to my hard drive, but it won't copy. Now what?

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty.  That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.

  • My unusual (?) printer issue -- Prints only partial lines when printing in black (part 2)

I have been using my HP Officejet J4680 with my Win7 PC for several years and relatively problem-free -- until about six months ago.
My printing issue might be rather odd.  So odd, in fact, I’m not sure how to succinctly describe it.  I’m not too techie, but I will try….
This printer will print some lines correctly, other lines print only partially, and some lines don’t print at all.
This oddity happens ONLY when I print in black.  When changing the color of the text to any other color other than black the page does print correctly.
Further, this issue seems to occur ONLY when printing certain things/files/formats.  For example, material from most websites will print correctly.  As will most .PDF files.  Printing files such as .txt, .doc, .wps, etc., seem to be the most problematic.
    Fixes I have tried include:
    Uninstalled and reinstalled printer
Run HP’s diagnostic tools (including checking for any driver updates)
Installed several new black ink cartridges
    Cleaned and re-aligned printer head
Lastly, the “copy” feature continues to produce good results.  These problematic symptoms seem to occur only while using the “print” function.
Short of relegating this printer to the trash, I’ve tried everything I can think of.  Help/ideas/suggestions appreciated.

    HI Here4Help2,
Here is a document to troubleshoot poor quality black text for your printer. This is a pretty interesting problem you have here. Let us know if this helps or if the problem remains.
If I helped you at all it would be great if you clicked the blue kudos star!
If I solved your post please mark it as solved to help others.
