Slideshow captions in Lightroom

Is there a way to add captions to images in LR other than the add caption in the slideshow module which adds a very blocky generic caption in quotes that is not usually as appealing as the image.  It is on of the few drawbacks to the program I have found.

There are two ways:
1) If you have <Text Overlays> selected, directly click on the caption text so that the box is highlighted (you'll see the white end points for resizing). While the box is highlighted, in the Panel <Text Overlays> the the slider for <Opacity> and the selection triangles for <Font> and <Size> will be activated. Select a font that you like in a size that suits you. You also can change the color of the text overlay by clicking directly in the white rectangle besides the word <Text Overlay>.
2) You also can select different metadata - for instance title - by clicking on the letters <ABC> in the center, just below the image, then on the small double triangle, and selecting <Edit>. See screen shot:
This will bring up the Text Editor where you can select various metadata, or enter Custom text. You can change fonts, etc as described above.

I am creating a slideshow in Lightroom 3 using the Caption and Rating  preset.  There are no quotation marks around the metadata captions, but  when I preview the slideshow all my captions have quotation marks. 9 views actually...
You will have to change the preset. Just click in the text box, then on the tool bar change Custom Settings, to Caption.
You can then save this as a new preset.

  • Slideshow Captions Messed Up

Is anyone else having a problem with slideshow captions? The problem is that the captions do not match the picture being displayed when using the classic theme.
To troubleshoot, I created a brand new user, started iPhoto, and copied in some of the "Fruit" ichat icons. When I play a "classic" slideshow with titles and descriptions displayed, the text is wrong from the start. I have also repaired permissions and confirmed that I have the latest version of iPhoto.
Does anyone else see this, or should I try to reload the software?

The recent update to iPhoto (8.0.2) has solved my problem.
    Glad to hear.
This implies either that the bug was real and the update fixed it (and that the people that tried to help didn't try to replicate the bug, but instead only offered canned advice) or the update inadvertently fixed my problem (maybe some kind of hidden permissions thing).
So, it was which, a bug? Or a glitch local to your machine? Well, I tried to replicate the problem, and guess what, I simply didn’t have the issue. My captions weren’t messed up. There have been no other reports of the problem on here that I have seen. For those reasos I would suspect a local glitch.
So how could someone replicate this?

  • How can i type international alphabet characters into keywords, title, and captions in Lightroom 4?

How can i type international alphabet characters into keywords, titles, and Captions in Lightroom 4?  Usual Microsoft key shortcuts not working.

I haven't found a way to do that directly, but there is a workaround. It' s a bit cumbersome, so it's only good for the occasional character.
In MS Word or any other text editor create a file that contains all the international characters you need.
When you need to insert one of these characters into Lr (captions, title, keywords) copy the character from your text document and paste it into Lr where needed.
    On Windows Ctrl + C / V works fine.

  • Slideshow captions - Limitation of lines

Hello. In my slideshow, I would like to show more than 3 lines of captions and not have the rest of the lines cut off. Is there a way to do this? I was able to solve my problem when viewing the thumbnail version of the slideshow by spacing down the caption to outside the slideshow box. Thanks!

You can change slideshow caption height by editing photos page js file, see my post in this thread:

  • Trying to add a lightbox slideshow caption link to a url hosed my site.

In the lightbox slideshow caption I tried to add an html link to the url of the image and now the all the slide show are hosed. It didn't link from the caption text but was embedded into the sllde show so that all the thumbnails linked to the same url.I even created a new slideshow from scratch and it still linked to the url. Do I have to rebuild the whole site? How and where do look to find the hyperlink to remove it?

Please try to select the caption and remove the link from hyperlink dropdown in top bar menu in Muse.
If this is not the case , post screenshots from design view.

  • Can I sync a slideshow created in lightroom to lightroom mobile?

I created a slideshow in Lightroom on my desktop, so the pictures are set to music and I have a simple opening and closing as well. I am trying to load the slideshow on my ipad but all I can seem to do is pull up the pictures from the slideshow (so no music, no intro/closing). Is there a way to sync the completed slideshow to mobile? I hope I am explaining this well...first time posting. Thank you!

    Hi Wolf,
Yes, I am trying to export an mp4 video from Lightroom and the resulting file is too large for Wordpress-even if the slideshow is exported at the lowest quality possible.  I know there are several plug-in programs but not sure which one is best for my MacBook Pro and I am not a coding expert.  I may use Vimeo but I was hoping for an easier way to include it in my blog without having to export and put the already finished slideshow in yet another program like Vimeo.  It almost defeats the purpose of having the Slideshow module in Lightroom if you cannot make it easy for people to view images (in high quality as well), online.

  • Slideshow captions lose hard returns

The captions I carefully typed in with extra lines (in order to have 1-2 lines visible on the photo page, but a full caption with descriptions in the slideshow) all run together in the slideshow - i.e, the extra hard returns are stripped out.
Any way to fix this? Use a different character for the return?

You can NOT force hard returns in slideshow captions.
This is a case of 'lost in translation'. slideshow captions are converted into javascript array, any special or non ASCII characters will be converted to escape unicode text or Unix escape character (\n = return or new line).
browsers don't what they are, they only knows HTML tags, eg:
    = new line.
cmlu: to change slideshow duration you may want to try to add this into slideshow.html (just before </html>):
    <script type="text/javascript">slideTime = 10000;</script>
    10000 = 10 seconds.

  • Possible to hide / unhide slideshow captions?

Is there a way to hide/unhide slideshow captions? I would like to do something similar to this: http://www.geschewuerfel.com/GalleryMain.asp?GalleryID=117628&AKey=DSWC4N8C . If you click on one of the images so it is full screen, then the 'i' button underneath will reveal the caption.

    Hi
You can try using Lightbox composition and then insert Tooltip in container area.
In tooltip settings, select stacked position and transition as vertical then it would be similar effect as you have mentioned. Arrange caption , navigation buttons in same area so that they should show up as inline.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot Change Photo Caption in Lightroom 2.3

I am not able to get Lightroom 2.3 to change the caption of photos taken with a Sony A100.  The caption reads "Sony DSC."  All of my efforts to change this caption to something else have failed, including use of the "Save Metadata to File" command.  While the program initially reflects a change or deletion in the caption at first, when I navigate away from the photo and then return, it always reverts to "Sony DSC."  If someone can suggest a different approach or a workaround it would be much appreciated.  Note that this does not seem to be a problem with Photoshop Elements 6.  I have not yet tried to see if I can make this change in Bridge yet. Thanks.

I have given up trying to find a solution in LR.  It stubbornly overwrites "Sony DSC" on every photo I import and wipes out all changes I try to make in the caption field. I have not found a direct fix in LR, causing me nothing but frustration. But I have found a workaround which sounds complicated but is really quite simple.  The key is to import via the import utility in PS Bridge rather than with the LR import dialogue.  You wipe out the description field which contains "Sony DSC" in Bridge.  Then you synchronize the folder in LR.  Problem solved.  Here are the steps for Windows users.
Step 1:  Create a Custom Template in Bridge.  (a) Go to Tools - Create Metadata Template; (b) In the "Create Metadata Template" dialogue box: (1) under the "IPTC (IIM, legacy)" tab, place a check in the box next to "Description" and leave the field to the right blank (make sure no other boxes are checked); (2) under the "IPTC Core" tab, place a check in the box next to "Description" and leave the field to the right blank; (c) In the "Template Name" field replace "Untitled" with "Clear Sony DSC" (or whatever you want to call your template).
Step 2: Import your photos with the import tool in Bridge (the key is not to import with LR).
Step 3: (a) navigate to the newly imported file of images; (b) in Metadata view click on the top image in the folder and shift click on the last image in the folder to select all; (c) right click on one of the selected images and click on "File info . . .; (d) In the dialogue box that appears, click on the down arrow next to the "Import" button; (e) one of the options should be "Clear Sony DSC" (or whatever you named your template), click on that: (f) an "Import Options" dialogue box will appear, with three choices.  Choose the first of the three "Clear existing properties and replace with template properties."  (Note this will only overwrite "Sony DSC" in the description fields of the metadata and leave those fields blank and will not overwrite any other metadata.); (g) That will return you to the File Information dialogue box. Click the "OK" button at the bottom.  Bridge will now take some time overwriting the description fields in the metadata attached to your images.
Step 4:  Go to LR.  In the Develop module navigate to the folder in which this new folder of images was placed by Bridge.  In the top menu go to Library - Synchronize Folders. Lightroom will now capture this folder of images in your LR catalogue and the attached metadata but thankfully not the troublesome "Sony DSC", so you should be free to edit the caption field in LR.  Do not use "Import Photos from Disk at this seems to recreate the problem and results in duplicate images.
Let me know if this works for you.

  • Slideshow captions appear to have boxes around them when viewed on mobile devices

Hi... I searched for this problem but couldn't find a reference - appologies if I didn't quite use the right search terms and it's already been answered.
I am having problems with a basic slideshow widget - when viewed on a PC (iMac in this instance) the image captions, counter and navigation buttons do NOT have any visible borders (I haven't stroked or filled the container boxes, other than the nav buttons). However, view the same slideshow on an iPad, or iPhone and there appears to be boxes around the caption, counter and nav buttons. I would prefer there to be no visible box outlines.
The problem page can be viewed here (remember, fine on a PC, not fine on a mobile device)
    http://mikehiggs.co.uk/musesite/case-studies.html
There are two slide shows on the page as I tried two different widgets - both have the same problem.
The odd thing is, I used the same method on the Home Page slideshow at the top of the page and this is working fine.
If anyone can shed any light on this 'problem' I'd very much appreciate it - I have tried everything I know at this stage.
Thanks in advance of any help.
    Addendum...
If I change the slideshow transitions from 'horizontal' to 'fade' the problem goes away. But I would prefer the slideshow to slide.
Just thought this extra info may help diagnose the problem.

  • Slideshow Captions in Different Positions

Is it possible to have the captions in a slideshow in different places on the slides?  I uncheck "Edit Together" but when I move the caption in 1 slide they move in all of them.

There's only one caption position for all the images in a slideshow.
The slideshow widget is specialized for creating image slideshows. The composition widget is a much more flexible widget which can be used to put any combination of images and text in the trigger containers or target containers of the widget. A composition widget could be used to create a slideshow with multiple captions per image and/or captions at different locations for each image. The drawback of the composition widget is that due to the flexible nature of the widget, very little is automated for you and thus it's much more labor intensive to create an image slideshow using the composition widget.

  • Slideshow issues with Lightroom vers 3.1

I tried to create a slideshow for a client using my previous version of Lightroom (2.7) but had issues with the selection of music to play in the background. Since I needed this slideshow asap I decided to go ahead and purchase the latest version (3.1) upgrading my older one. Well, to my dismal disappointment I spent the money and although I can now select the specific song..... when I playback the songs plays at 1/4 th speed ,,, just AWFUL !!! I know this issue has been talked about but I could not see if a solution so such was ever found ?? What is Adobe doing about it ?

  • Is it possible to place images within Muse slideshow captions?

I want to caption some headshots- in a slideshow - with a bit of written blurb, plus logo images for the companies they've worked for.
    Thank you!

You should be able to add images to a slideshow's caption just like you would wrap text around an image in a text frame as described here - http://www.adobekb.com/typography_pt3.html.
As soon you place an image within the caption, you would notice that it would be placed as an Inline element and the Wrap panel would be activated in order to move the image around the text.

  • Spry Image Slideshow -- captions?

After spending the better part of last week building a jquery slideshow, I just received my CS5 package to install!
There are many slideshows in my future (the boss loves them), but I definitely need to be able to add captions...
Would love to know if there is a way to put them in.
    Thanks!

Think I finally found at least one solution.
Viewing the code from adobe labs demo, it looks like the image title attribute can be used as a caption, but has to be positioned with css.
