Slideshow creation

Hi,
I'm trying to create a slideshow that will play on a DVD player. I do not have easy access to a DVD Burner so hopefully I will be able to burn the final product to a CD and then play it. The slideshow will, hopefully, contain pictures w/ the Ken Burns effect, short video clips, and text.
What I need is a program to create a slideshow with the above things and, most importantly, I need the DVD/CD to be set up so at the end of each slide, it will freeze on the current frame until a button is pushed on the remote. Preferably, I would be able to go forward or back in the show via the arrow buttons on the remote.
Is this possible in iDVD or any other programs? If so, which ones?
Help greatly appriciated,

Away from the computer for a couple of days myself.
Someone else can jump in here if I am totally incorrect, but the primary purpose of a DVD format as used in a DVD "player" is to play files that have been transformed into "movies". Movies might have chapters for ease of navigation or restart partway through the content, but to ask iLife to create a product that is a forward/backward/stop/start product is to expect a boat to also have wheels and roll on the road. You might be able to make it work, but it will take a lot of extra work. And from what I have read on this forum about "rules for chapter markers", if you use transitions and titles around all of the images, you will have trouble spacing out and placing a chapter marker at each image (which is the only way I can see being able to control reverse navigation).
Powerpoint is a product that is used to do exactly what you seem to want to do, but typically the filesizes are much smaller, the product burned to a CD or jumpdrive, and the entire thing viewed with the assistance of a computer as the interface. You may view DVD movies on a computer, but for the most part, the end destination is a TV or other projection device. You cannot "play" it on a player as that is not what the program is intended to do. It is mostly used for information, lectures and presentations (which actually sounds like what you want to do).
Also, from what I have seen from most DVD players that are connected to TVs, hitting the pause button can often cause lines or distortion in the image. It is not necessarily clear.
Not really sure what else to recommend.

  • PSE 8 vs PSE7 slideshow creation

I have successfully created slideshows in PS Elements 7.  After installing PS Elements 8, I no longer can produce a viewable slideshow.  Here is my procedure;  -- start the browser, -- select images to be included in the slideshow, -- , go to CREATE > Slideshow, select OUTPUT on the Slide Show Editor screen, then choose Save as a File , to make a WMV in NTSC format and hit OK, -- then name the slideshow file that is to be created on the Save SlideShow as WMV screen.  After creation, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the slideshow--I answer YES.  A WMV file is created but it is unviewable -- when playing it, the screen is constantly black.  If I play it in the slideshow editor, the timeline advances properly but the preview window also remains black.

I am having a similar problem.  If I am in the slide show editor, and click the play button, the screen goes black, but I can see the thumbnails light up one at a time.
If I "output" a pdf slide show I can use it with no difficulty.  If I "output" a wmv file it is all black.
If I try to view a wmv from years ago that is in my catalog I do not have a problem.
    Any ideas?
Since my last successul slide show creation I have upgraded from PSE7 to PSE 8 and I have also upgraded Pinnacle Studio Plus to v12.  I am not using Studio right now, but wanted to be complete about what is on the system.

  • Video Slideshow Creation in iMovie (Ken Burns Effect)

I'm trying to create a slideshow video in iMovie. The process seemed pretty straight forward, and seemed to be going nicely. I got all the images imported into iMovie and added the music to the timeline as I wanted. When I previewed my results though, I was less than pleased.
After viewing the preview, the Ken Burns effect was the exact same zoom/pan for every picture--it wasn't randomizing the effect like it does when you do a slideshow from within iPhoto or Front Row. Any way to get it to randomize the effect? There's just way to many pictures in this compilation (250+) to go through and change it up a bit for each.
At this point, I figured I'd just go with the slideshow export feature in iPhoto since it does randomize the Burns effect. Yeah, that didn't go so hot either. Apparently, you can only add one music track, so I had to find a utility to combine the MP3s we were going to be using. Looked like this was going to work until we played it after the (LONG!) export process. Turns out, the slideshow somehow ended up a whole four minutes shorter than what I had in iMovie. Apparently the default transition speed of 5 seconds does not hold true to iPhoto slideshows. Plus, much to my surprise there is absolutely no fade-out in the music at the end--it just abrubtly stops. Not cool.
There's got to be a way to make that (very cool) Ken Burns effect randomize in iMovies I'd think. Any suggestions?

Although you cannot permanently remove the Ken Burns effect option, you can set your default to having it off.
You need to apply your settings to a particular photo and then the changes should be the new default.
Drag any photo into the timeline. Select 'show photo settings' and deselect KB effect and update that photo.
Close or hide photo settings. Click on something else. If you don't want the photo in your timeline, delete it.
When you open the 'show photo settings' again, your recent changes should be there.
If this process does not work for you, try deleting iMovie's preference file.
With iMovie closed, go to your Home file(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iMovie will create a new one when you reopen it.
    Reopen iMovie.

  • Automatic Slideshow Creation?

Is there a way to take about 700 images from a wedding and have DVDSP divide up the slides into 99 slides and make the slideshows automatically?
It takes a while for me to go through and divide them in to the slideshows. I am just trying to speed up the process!
    Any suggestions?
    Kevin Hawkins

I normally import the images as assets, and then create slidehows and then drag the assets into the slideshows.
My question is, is there a way to have DVDSP automatically create the slideshows instead of me having to drag images into slideshows?

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 freezing during slideshow creation

I haven't got Lion so I cannot upgrade iPhoto past 8.1.2. Trying to create a slideshow and cannot move photos without iPhoto freezing up. Any suggestions?

10.6.8 can run up to 9.2.3
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Multi session slideshow creation as per version B2

I still have Lightroom version B2 installed (so that I can use it alongside version 1.0) just for one feature; the ability to add pictures to a previously created slide show, without having to start from scratch.
Personally I think this is a crucial feature, particularly for photographers on long jobs that want to show a client updates of work whilst keeping the old work viewable, too.
Internet connections are often unreliable and/or expensive where I work, so uploading only the new material whilst keeping the old material in place, is very important.
Do people agree and is there any chance this feature will return?

...yes my clock does do quite a bit of jumping around..! And I have installed B2 on a separate user account (Mac OSX).
I would be delighted to hear from yourself and others whether this feature could be reinstated, despite the design of the Web module itself having changed so much.

  • How to get rid of the large slideshow images in Web gallery (CS4)

    Here is the deal.
I've created a flash web gallery/ But the new CS4 has the option for slideshow with this flash stuff. CS3 use to create thumbnail and large images folders. The new one creates 3 folders: 1. thumbnails, 2, medium images, 3 large images (for the slideshow). That's great, until I go to upload process. I have pretty limited space. So I'm ready to get rid of the slideshow option, but there's no such option in gallery creating process. The only solution I have in mind is to redirect slideshow images to the medium size folder. But thats pretty annoying process during the creation of each gallery.
So does anyone has an idea how to skip the slideshow creation or another method to skip creating 3 folders, all with the same images?

  • Why can't I make a slideshow in Photoshop Elements 12 on a mac?

    Hi,
I'm trying to make a slideshow in PSE12 on a Mac Air - but I don't see the option to do it.  Can anyone tell me how to do this - it's a fairly basic function.
    Thanks,
    Maggie

PSE13 supports slideshow on MAC. You may download a trial of PSE13 from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&loc=en_gb and try slideshow creation workflow. Here's what's new in PSE13 - http://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/whats-new.html

  • IPhoto crash creating Slideshow

.... and just about everywhere else!!!
14 crashes in 4 hours during picture import, album creation, slideshow creation, database rebuild ...
I have tried rebuilding the database etc. it even crashed twice whilst doing this
I have tried creaing a new library and importing the files again (crashed again)
I have deleted every MOV and AVI that Finder could find (and this improved stability right up to the latest crash) ... but ideallly I want them included
The latest crash has got me stumped ... I cannot find a work around ... I have reduced the number of images to just 350, no movies, verified the disk and checked the disk permissions ... but still a crash ...
Using the menu I am creating a new slideshow .... File > New Slideshow > Continue > CRASH
Upon restart I can see 'Untitled Slideshow' in the sidebar
Click on the 'Untitled Slideshow' > CRASH

  • Photo order for slideshow

I have a directory of 300 photos, numbered 1-300, which are in the order I want them in...they are not in date order at all.   how can i preserve my order when pulling into the organizer in elements for slideshow creation?
a related topic...any batch renumbering utility in elements?

    Hi,
I'm not too clear on how you have numbered the photos. If you have just renamed each photo with the number then there could be a problem in ordering the photos in PSE. In PSE, the folder view displays the photos in alphabetic order not numeric order.
So, photos could appear in a different order:-
    Numeric order :   1, 2, 10, 20
    Alphabetic order : 1, 10, 2, 20
When renaming photos, to preserve the order for other viewers, it is best to use leading zeros to pad each number (e.g. 001, 020, 300).
To get them int PSE, just do Get Photos and Videos -> From Files and Folders and point to the folder containing the photos. Note that the getting of the photos does not take a copy of the photos, it just catalogs them.
Once they have been imported, switch to Folder Location in the Display options (top right) and select the folder where your photos are. If you have the naming right, the photos should appear in the correct order.
Now create an Album tag and apply it all the photos.
You can now switch to Thumbnail View in the Display options (my preferred view to work in) and if you select the album tag, the photos should be displayed in the correct order. In album view, you can drag the photos around into the order you want.
When you want to create you slideshow, just select all the photos in the album.
Personally, I don't bother renaming photos, I just import them into PSE and select the ones I want and allocate an album tag to them. In album view, I then move the photos around into the order I want and then create the slideshow.
For you last topic, why do you want to renumber the photos? There is the Export facility which enables you to copy the photos to an new folder and you can apply a sequence number.
Hope that the above was helpful

  • Origami Slideshow Problem

I spent 2 hours working on a slideshow of my last hiking trip. Right before I went to export the slideshow, I changed the aspect ratio rom 16:10 to 16:9. Doing this rearranged ALL of the slides in my slideshow, with no way to undo it. It took the main full screen slide and placed it in a 4 photo layout as the first image instead of by itself. All other images there after we're also on different page layouts. So the photos I wanted to emphasize in larger photo boxes were now in smaller ones, or they were cropped wrong, etc. You figure there would be something that tells you "This might change the layout of your slideshow." But nothing, and no way to revert.
Besides that, it wouldn't be as big a deal if it we're easier to make the slideshow. Since creating photo books allows drag and drop to swap images and being able to choose the layout of the page to arrange the images appropriately, why would that not be implemented into the slideshow creation. It's the same basic idea. But instead you have to drag the order of the thumbnails above to reorganize the images below, which gets confusing in itself.
I hope some changes/updates are made to the slideshow features. Has anyone else had problems like this? Is there any way to easily organize the photos in the slideshow that I may have missed?

Hi Rich, same thing happened to me and I ended up spending an entire week preparing the slideshow to look exactly the way I wanted before iphoto would actually let me export it the way I arranged photos.
What I found is that the Origami slideshow option modifies the order / crop factor of the photos when you add or remove a photo from the slideshow.  The only way around this issue is by going through every photo in the slideshow and ensuring they all look the way you want them to just before export.
As mentioned, as soon as you make one adjustment to a photo, there is a good chance that the whole project has been thrown out of whack again.  Anyway I persisted and finally got it looking the way I wanted.
I hope that Apple has recognised this issue and is going to implement a fix for this fantastic new theme.
Sorry I could not be of help.

  • I don't have the Speed menu for PSE 13 to make my Slideshow.

I have been trying to learn how to make Photo Slideshows with the Photoshop Elements 13.  I have viewed many tutorial videos and am now learning that I should have a 'speed' menu option that syncs the slides to the music.  It shows the options either normal, brisk or no sync (as default).  However, when I open the slideshow builder there is no sign of the 'speed' option - I have even tried to save and reopen from the Organizer to edit and still nothing.  Am I missing something - do I need to change a preference?  Please help - I really miss Slideshow Creation in PSE 11

I don't have PSE 13, but you may need to be in a different mode (Expert, Quick, Guided tabs at the top of the editor interface).

  • Lightroom 5 slideshow export video

So this is LR 5.5. Can you change the quality settings on export of your slideshows? Exported my first one and the quality is ok at small size but not so good when enlarged.

As trshaner says, make sure you select the correct output resolution. Usually you want at least 720p. The highest quality it will do is 1080p (i.e. 1920x1080). Lightroom doesn't output sharpen the images it puts in the slideshow video so when you display on a big screen, it is usually fairly soft. Unfortunately, you cannot fix this except for using a different slideshow creation software. Even Photoshop makes better slideshow video albeit in a very hard to use interface if you just want a set of images transitioning.

  • Slideshow software alternative to iPhoto

I create slideshows for weddings & other events on a periodic basis. When I do this in Final Cut, I have absolute control over every slide in terms of transitions, movements, and time onscreen, but it's very time intensive and most people don't want to pay for the time involved.
When I create slideshows in iPhoto, it's a simple and straightforward approach that's less expensive, but I don't have any control over individual photos that I might want to do something different with. It's a one-way only setup.
I'm looking for a "middle of the road" software program that has templates for slideshow creation that I can just plug the pics into, but still allows for some control with each photo (transitions, time onscreen, and even movement of the photo if possible.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for Mac?
    Thanks!!

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 8 from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • PSE5 slideshow won't import properly into PSE8

    Hi,
I have a number of large slide shows created in PSE5 which function properly in PSE5 but won't import properly into PSE8.  All of the transitions, pans, and zooms are there (from the .psess file), but all of the photos are blank (black).  Ocasionally there's totally unrelated photo in one of the black slots.
I've read numerous posts here and in the Village but so far I've not been able to resolve the issue.
What I suspect is that something in the structure of the PSE5 access database (Catalog) is corrupt preventing the proper transfer of slideshow details into the PSE8 SQLite dabase.
I've spent numerous hours trying to kick-out a solution but so far nothing has worked.  Here's what I've tried so far (all with copies of the original database).
    1) In PSE5 I've removed all slideshows, creations, albums, and photos except for one single slideshow.  Import to PSE8 fails.
    2) Numerous catalog recoveries, optimizations, and repairs both before and after conversion to PSE8.  No joy.
    3) Database investigations with Mr. Ellis' psedbtool.  Nothing wrong is ever reported.  I can't really deduce what has been corrupted.
    4) Create New slideshow in PSE5 and convert to PSE8.  Some success since most photos make it through but some photos are complete un-related.
The ONLY thing that as worked is the following:
Create New Catalog in PSE5.   Create New slideshow in PSE5.  Convert to PSE8.  Slide show works fine in PSE8.
I'm hoping that someone can help me determine how to fix the PSE5 access database or find a way to kick the slideshows out of the corrupt PSE5 catalog so that it converts properly to PSE8.
Thanks, in advance, for anyone who takes on this challenge and will lend a hand.  Throw some ideas out there and I'll give them a try.
    Paul

Are you creating a standard menu or a layered menu? I would warn you that there are a lot of problems with layered menus. They are best avoided.
    There is a tutorial on creating custom shapes at;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/shapes_droptemplates.html
But you are really best off creating your entire background in Photoshop and importing it as one piece.
