Slideshow crossfades become jerky in Quicktime

My slideshow crossfades (Ken Burns crossfades) end up all choppy once I export to QT and view it in QT. The first two crossfades are really smooth actually, then they become choppy, they seem like they're "sticking" as the image goes across the screen. I have the latest versions of iPhoto and QT. Any suggestions of how to get the crossfades flawlessly smooth? Thanks

I've got a similar problem - in my final DVD the panning/zooming is slightly jarring - not that badly, but certainly noticable, and definitely not as smooth as it could be.
Big PITA, as I had been using iMovie, but had some image quality issues with some photos. Its getting a bit frustrating that either route seems to have one issue or another.
This is on G4 PB, 1.25GHz, 512MB RAM, with about 15GB free at the moment.
Is a boost in RAM really likely to make that much of a difference?

  • Can anyone explain why streaming video from BBC's iPlayer is becomes jerky on my Air?

I'm using my MacBook Air to watch streamed video from the BBC iPlayer and the picture becomes jerky after a couple of minutes, only clearing when I close the lid and let the system power down.  However it soon becomes jerky again after restarting.
The spec of the machine is 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 with 2GB RAM and about 20GB's free harddrive memory.
Adobe Air app installer also appears to keep attempting to boot.
This is pretty annoying, when during a 30minute programme I have to close the lid every 5-10 mins to make the programme watchable.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, a solution would be fantastic!
    Thanks,
    JJ

I'm not certan how to tell whether or not it is jailbroken but it's only when I use a specific charger and it's been fine ever since I threw that stupid thing away, No problems with the phone other then simple things I can handle. lol I seriously hope that madness never happens to anyone else!!!!

  • Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 preview window has become jerky (more details)

I am using a PC, Quadcore (Athlon II X4) 64 bit Windows 7, 4 internal Hard drives (all single partitions, NTFS), 8GB RAM. I am using Production Premium CS4. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 4850 running the latest Catalyst drivers (or at least the ones from 3 days ago). I am using 2 TFT monitors, both running at a resolution of 1280x1024.
The hard drives are arranged as:
80GB windows drive (where CS4 is installed): 14GB free
500GB: Cache files stored here: 270GB free
2TB: raw footage for a new project: 844GB free
1.5TB: scratch files and all other project files stored on here: 204GB free
I put in a new Internal 2TB harddrive & installed a black magic plugin for some high def footage (the decklink software from www.blackmagic-design.com)
All preview playback in Premiere Pro has become jerky and unmanageable: only a few frames per second. Before installing the blackmagic plugin playback was smooth with all video sizes, now I can only achieve smooth playback with a tiny (~10% size) preview video.
I tried uninstalling the black magic plugin and changing catalyst control centre settings (regarding playback) neither of which worked. I tried to do a system restore on the windows drive, but this failed. I also tried disabling hard disk indexing for windows search in case this was having an effect, but it seems to have made no difference.
I have tried everything could find on message boards; old DV footage that was fine previously will no longer play smoothly it seems likely to me that this is a software configuration issue.
I have an ATI Radeon 5670 card which I'm going to try today. Other people have mentioned switching to nVidia cards, but I don't want to shell out for a new graphics card unless it is guaranteed to solve the problem once and for all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, if any more details would be useful then let me know and I'll post more information.

I've just removed a large number of temporary files, uninstalled a few unnecessary programs (e.g. nero) and have moved the swap space away from the OS drive to being spread over the other drives. I've disabled disk indexing, removed unnecessary windows services and run CCleaner. I also followed (most of) your guide on setting a system up for optimum performance.
I should note that Windows Media Player doesn't have a problem with playing large files, and so it appears the problem is localised to Adobe software.
The time taken to render DV footage has increased dramatically almost tenfold. This is something of a guess, but could Adobe be using the CPU to render video instead of the GPU?
This might not be relevant, but the timeline bar flickers when I'm previewing a video.
    Disk space is now:
    80GB:    43GB free
    500GB:   255GB free
    2TB:       696GB free
    1.5TB:    349GB free
I tried creating a project that didn't use the 1.5TB disk, but it exhibited the same problem.

  • Photo slideshows exported to 1080p using Quicktime

I'm looking to export a High Definition quicktime file of my photos. I'm testing now so when blu-ray or HD-DVD discs become available, I can start archiving my thousands of digital photos.
While the overal look of what I've done isn't terrible, it's still not quite as clear as when my pictures play standard slideshow programs.
Another issue that I think is affecting the detail, is that the aspect ratio is slightly skewed which appears to be twisting my image thereby causing a blurry image.
Am I missing something, or is there a simple solution? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

QuickTime Pro isn't licensed to export audio from MPEG 1 or 2 files.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your .mpg to QuickTime ( or iPod) formats.

  • De-interlaced footage becomes jerky

Tried this question in the quicktime corner, to no avail, sorry for anybody reading it again,
I shoot with a Sony PD150; DV interlaced in PAL. Footage looks smooth but ragged, both in iMovie HD, FCP, QuickTime and when played back on a flatscreen from a DVD.
I tried de-interlacing with FCP (filter and export option) and with Visual Hub. The ragged edges are gone, but camera movements become very jerky. First thought the problem was in the DVD, but it's not. The Quicktime Film, played back on the mac, is jerky too.
    Any suggestions to fix this?
    Thanks,
    KC

Glad to be able to offer a workable solution.
1/25 looks much better. I only used the shutter speed to control the light, when an ND filter wasn't enough and I didn't want to change the iris because of depth of field.
ah. Advanced photography requires advanced tools. You'll need a set of NDs or polariizers to control light that way. The 150 has such tiny sensors, though, you only get a decent depth of field effect at full telephoto and wide open.
Maybe you can help me out with three more questions:
    about the PD150
    1. In the manual set menu auto shutter is -- obviously -- set to 'off'. But is the 'prog. scan' option, in the same menu, any use in getting some sort of progressive footage
The manual for the 150 is available online at many sources if you've lost yours.
http://www.mediacollege.com/ (free download of the PDF)
I have never used the progressive shooting feature, I completely forgot it was there. Now I've got to experiment with it myself. However, shooting 25P is not the same as 50i, you will lose half of your temporal resolution. You want to be able to shoot 50P and then have the choice of converting it to interlaced.
    2. do you know what the 'frame rec' option in the 'camers set' menu does?
Records only a single frame when the start button is pressed. Used for still frame animation projects. Not recommended, the transport does not like to do this. If you need still image recording, use a memory stick.
    3. switching to HD. Any suggestions for an HD camera that's easier to operate than the PD150, has a flawless workflow with the Mac and XLR sound input?
Sorry, can't help you at all. We will not move to HD for at least two or three more years.
The 150/170 has far too few professional controls as it is now. Your desire for depth of field control suggests you need a professional grade camera but you want one with controls that are easily accessed and understood, not fewer of them.
The problem with the 150/170 is the necessary functions are hidden three or more menus deep. They are impossible to change quickly or inconvenient to check during real world photography so I tend to leave them alone.

  • Slideshow won't play video(QuickTime file), works fine in Keynote('08), how to fix?

Shows up in the slideshow but video does not start, even though after the time the video would play, the slideshow continues, and even plays the next video OK.  The Keynote works perfectly, the problem is only witht the recorded Slideshow, so I can't export a working version.  Ideas?

  • Drift HD 170 video jerky in Quicktime

My files from the Drift HD170 - they are .MOVs in H264 1080p - look great but had a stuttering effect as if a few frames get lost every few seconds. If I change the codec in Quicktime pro then the jerkiness goes but the movie darkens and the quality is poorer. I put it through Final Cut express and the jerkiness went but it's now out of focus, very soft and up from 66 MB to 166 MB. I tried this on my old 1.83 GHZ iMac and new MacPro. It's as if someone has put a soft focus filter on. I'm in Europe and the file is an NTSC. I don't know if this is a problem because I shot similar footage on a Sony TX5 and it was the same NTSC 16x9 format but looked lovely. How can I get good looking footage from this camera?

Thank you very much for replying.  Yes, I've tried both "maximum" and
"frame blending" settings.  I talked with a friend (pro at a TV station)
and he is suggesting that Quicktime on Windows can be an issue.
Unfortunately, I need to export a reliable .mov format file for use in
Quicktime for others who will receive it.
Windows Media Player plays .mp4 (H.264, 1080p) well (even the .mov file
export).  I'm guessing this is a Quicktime player issue?  But, how do I
make sure my files are usable for others who will play it on Quicktime?
I'm not sure anyone will be able to help me out with this.  Look
below...any issue with my laptop?  I did add the graphics card to the CUDA
supported list.  I do have MPE GUP Acceleration checked.

  • Realtime effects become jerky after being rendered for 24p HD video

    Hello,
Any one comes across that for 24p HD Video clips, e.g. just adding a "cross-dissolve" as the transition between two clips (I have tried both uncompressed and ProRes 422 HQ). Before rendering, the realtime effects (green in color) plays perfectly across. However, after render realtime or render all, we find that there will be once that the video becomes jerkly about at the "out" point of the "cross-dissolve". The same result to the video recorded when "print-to-video" or "edit-to-tape".
The only work-around is to either export the whole sequence to a quicktime movie, OR adding a dummy "Quicktime" effect filter into the both video clips and render all effects. Both methods are very time consuming, as it is video footage
Also, this problem seems happen to 24p only, not 50i or 60i. I wonder there is any error in calculating and making the render file of the effect for 24p.
    Software configuration:
10.4.10, Final Cut Pro 6.0.1, Quicktime (most updated), KONA3 driver 4.0 (actually this problem happens to BMD MultiBridge/DeckLink Systems too)
Is it a "known" bug in FCP? or anyone get similar problem but have a solution to it?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Golden

Hmmm....odd. I only saw this with P2 footage that was imported with FCP 5.0.4 and used in projects since upgraded to FCP 5.1. That little jitter at the end. I had that. I had to reimport all my footage under FCP 5.1.1 and it went away.
But that is NOT what you are dealing with...same issue, different footage, different version of FCP.
    Got me.

  • Audio is jerky with Quicktime videos

Thanks to Gary Teresi for doing the research and posting the two links below that show QuickTime performing differently.
I noticed that there were no more posts followng his post aside from one that verified that the following information is true. He found two separate streams where the behavior is completely opposite, one with jerky audio and one without. Hard to imagine it's a setting on my computer causing the issue.
Here is an example of a file that only the video plays fine, but the audio is very distorted... (click this week's message)
    http://www.kcbt.org/shaping/sermons/audio.htm
But there is another site which when played has no distortion...(select one of the stapler in action movies)
    http://www.virtualstapler.com/gallery/paperstapler.asp
I could really use some help answering the following two questions.
    1) How can you be sure (aside from formatting the hard drive) that your current QuickTime version has been uninstalled? Is there a registry key that can be removed? I uninstalled and uninstalled, and then installed an earlier version, but it still comes up as the latest version.
    2) What are the settings that some have found are the problem creating this issue? Some have said that settings not set appropriately can cause similar issues. Has anyone been able to duplicate this issue by changing settings?

I, too am having the same problem.
One thing that i have tried was to uninstall Itunes and Quicktime and install Quicktime Alternative.
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm
Once i did that, i went back to a website...
    http://www.kcbt.org/shaping/sermons/audio.htm
On the right hand side of the page there is a QT logo with play this weeks message.
When i click on it, it opens and the sound is very distorted, the video is fine, (except in my case i'm having trouble w/ the audio and video being out of sync.)
Any way, i opened the file, let it finish downloading, then i right clicked in the same window and chose to "save as source" or "save as QT file" and save it to my desk top.
i right click on the file and another dialog box comes up asking what i want to open the file with.
After many tries w/ different media players, i finally got the the file to WORK in (of all things!), Windows Media Player!!!
i hope someone would try this also, and let me know, if this works for you.
    Thank You,
    Gary Teresi

  • File vault home folder becomes ejectable after QuickTime update

I have two user personalities on my Mac - an administrator and a normal user.
The normal user has an encrypted home directory using FileVault.
I just installed Apple's 9/9/08 QuickTime update and the updater seems to have destroyed a few things. I ran the update from inside the user personality, typing in the admin password.
After the restart, my home folder is now ejectable. That was the first curious sign.
Also, no browser other than Safari works any more. I also have Camino and Firefox on this machine and both can no longer be started. This seems to be related to the QuickTime updater and I assume it is related to running the updater from a non-admin account...
So how do I get my system back to normal? It is very puzzling and potentially dangerous having the "eject" button next to your home directory....
    Michael

looks like you have a number of problems. the best would be to restore your system from a backup to a point before the update. if you don't have a backup you should first of all start backing up. no idea what's wrong with your browsers but for the filevault I would first restart and see if the problem remains. if it does I would try turning filevault off/on. You need quite a bit of free space to do it - at least as much as your home directory holds and then some.

  • Scrolling Ebay listing pages has become jerky instead of smooth. With safari it's smooth.

I see in the comments of others they are having the same problem: When you scroll an Ebay listing page there is a continuing jerky stop and start. It used to be smooth. I know it's Firefox because the problem doesn't exist when I use Safari as my browser.

If there is a problem with scrolling on web pages then try to disable smooth scrolling.
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General: Browsing: "Use smooth scrolling"

  • Another smooth video becomes jerky in iMovie'11

I am downloading many old Sony8 tapes:
I have my camcorder (Sony Handycam Video 8) many years old, connected to a Canopus ADVC110 converter which I've used for many years.
The cables are only red/yellow/white plugs into  the camera, same into Canopus although it does also have a port for "S Video" and DV in/out.
Some of my favorite video is unusable as it comes through, stop and start, very "jerky!! But when I connect my camera to the television, the video plays perfectly.
I saw another discussion where "optimize media" is recommended, but not able to do that, never gave me a choice.
This is so frustrating, to have all this wonderful footage that cannot be used, any suggestions?
I read in the other discussion of this same ilk, a frame speed issue?? Should I try a new converter?? Mine is 10 years old. I used this same footage in iMovie '06, worked fine, only "jerks" going into '11.
    Help!! :-)

    Hi Susan,
I've just added another reply to the thread that I think you are referring to, but I don't think it will help with your situation. Is this the thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5084106?tstart=0
You said "I used this same footage in iMovie '06, worked fine". If you still have that footage, you should be able to import it to iMovie '11. Locate the iMovie HD 6 project in Finder, then right-click (or control-click) on it. From the pop-up menu select Show Package Contents. In the Media folder you should be able to see all the clips that were used in that project. To get them into iMovie '11 it's probably best to copy them to another location, then import to iMovie (File > Import > Movies).
Sorry I can't help with the jerky playback issue you are seeing. But I'll keep thinking!

  • NOKIA N95 VIDEOS JERKY IN QUICKTIME

I just bought the new nokia N95. When I transfer videos to my mac they don't play smoothly in quicktime (or real player) they play a few seconds then get stuck, then play again etc. The videos do play fine in VLC but I want to use quicktime (I have pro) so that I can change AV settings and rotate etc.
I read somewhere that it is a codec problem - I don't know if this is true or not but does anyone know of the problem / if there is a codec that can be downloaded?
    Ta

MPEG-4 should imply industry standard and nothing about those codecs should cause any issue with QuickTime.
Try the 7.2 update and see if things improve.
If they're really Microsoft versions of the codec then the free Perian component would help. But since you can view them you have the needed codecs.

  • Iphoto/slideshow/quicktime question

    Hi all:
My son needs to be able to make slideshows from time to time for homework. For some reason, his G3 imac 400 (Panther) is having a problem here. We can export the slideshow to a quicktime movie, but we lose most of the soundtrack. Actually, we only get about 3 seconds of soundtrack then it goes dead, but the pics keep cycling through. Any ideas as to what's up here?
    thanks.

    Ok....
    Problem solved.
However, I'm not sure I understand why. But here's the deal: 2 identical imacs (G3 400, w/ 256mb ram....same version iphoto, itunes & quicktime). System #1 worked, system #2 didn't. After playing for half the day, I realized that System #1's working tune was an *mp3* tune, whereas System #2 was using an AAC tune. Further investigation revealed that both imacs were acting the same. Both would successfully export an iphoto slideshow/with mp3 song to quicktime, & both choked if the itunes song chosen was an AAC.
    So......I can live with this.
If anyone can clear up *why* I can't use an AAC tune, that would be great, but truth be told I can live with it the way it is now.
    thanks!

  • Slideshow not working when Quicktime on Slides!

I have a Keynote presentation (v4.0.1) that includes some quicktime movies on some slides.
It worked fine until I upgraded my system to 10.4.10.
But since the upgrade, the slides with quicktime movies don't appear anymore when using slideshow mode...
the quicktime version I have is 7.3.0
    what's happening????

You guys just saved me hours of frustration.
I was banging my head against the wall when I read your thread, and for whatever reason it works.
In my case, only some QT movies would not play.
Really odd as the particular presentation did work fine before.
Thanks a brasilian (Bush talk for a lot...)
