Slideshow during tethered shooting - how?

Hello all,
here's what I'd like to achieve: I would like to connect my Nikon D300 and shoot several RAW images during a session. While shooting, Aperture should display a slide show loop of all pictures that have already been taken during this particular session. Thus, I would like to have a slide show while I am still shooting in tethered mode.
Is this possible with Aperture? If not, any other tool that I can use? Any advice?
Thanks a lot and cheers,
Bastian

Right now, when tethered, Aperture is preventing files from being written to the CF card in the camera (which I definitely don't want)
You have no control over that behavior. It's the way Aperture works when you are shooting tethered.
If I understand your question, it sounds like you are trying to use Aperture as a replacement/supplement for the LCD on the back of your camera. If so, is there a HDMI output on your 5DMKIII? Maybe you could attach that output to a monitor as a solution.

Is it possible to only have Aperture 3 display exposures during tethered shooting (with 5DMKIII)?
That's ALL I want to accomplish if anyone has a tip on settings, thanks.

  • Setting and holding White balance during tethered shooting

I came to Apeture from Capture One Pro.  I used Capture when working for a photo studio, when I started shooting for myself I went with the much more affordable Apeture.  I have been very happy with the workflow, but Apeture seems to be missing one of most basic settings for tethered shooting, setting and maintaining custom gray balance. I realize that I can shoot a frame with a gray card and white balance that frame, but the following frames revert to the pre-whitebalanced color settings.  In Capture One, I would balance my first frame to a gray card, even add a manual tweek, and all subsequent frames would follow the new color settings.  Perhaps there is a setting I have missed, some sort of automatic inheriting of the last frames adjustments.  I realize that it is easy enough to adjust my color settings after the fact, but my color is off during shooting, and clients are not always able to envision the finished product.  I really hope I'm missing something, because it's the most important feature to me for shooting tethered, right after the ability to shoot tethered.

It forces this yucky uber warm white balance. Just to make sure it was not shot that way, I then selected "as shot". It immediatly went to the color of the shoot and looks great.
When you select 'As Shot' do the Temp and Tint settings change? How about other settings, do any of them change? Just trying to determine what is actually causing the color change.
Did you try creating a new preset with the same settings, and see how it behaves when you uncheck White Balance? The original preset file may have been corrupted (i.e. damaged) and resaves are not fixing it. If this doesn't resolve the problem then it is likely a bug with tethered mode operation. Please let us know.

  • Is DNG conversion during Tethered Shooting Possible?

Previously, using a Canon 5D MkII  and lightroom 2  I could shoot to a hot folder which Lightroom would watch, convert the images to DNG and add them to my catalog.
I love that Tethered Shooting is now part of Lightroom but unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere to set up a recipe or parameters for the import and can only convert the files to DNG in post.... bit of a waste of time isn't it?
Am I missing something.... I sure hope there will be more options in tethered shooting in the final release.  I have had to use Capture One to do Tethered shooting on Jobs but hate that I can't import the corrections into Lightroom.  I was really hoping to circumvent C1 and save a bunch of time.
If it's not there, please add DNG conversion on the fly and keep my files in LR rather than C1

  • Tethered Shooting with Nikon does not save on CF/SD Cards

Has Lightroom 5 now a solution for the tethered shooting with Nikon cameras where no save on the CF/SD cards takes place?
If not, will this covered in the future?

An external HDD does not help for the most common image loss during tethered shooting: Transfer problems.
When any transmission problem occurs while shooting and the images are not stored on the memory card, they will be gone. I can't tell you how many images I lost because I had some cable problem while being tethered.
Tethering without a copy on memory card is not a good idea, really. So since the feature is available (otherwise it wouldn't work in digiCamControl, they don't install a new firmware or use super secret camera drivers or anything) I can't understand why Adobe does not support it.

  • How do I remove "DNA Software tethered shooting demo for A99" disclaimer from all my during capture?

how do I remove "DNA Software tethered shooting demo for A99" disclaimer from all my images during capture?

I guess the obvious answer is PURCHASE the DNA Software so it won't be a demo unless you have already purchased it and it still won't work and in that case you should contact DNA Software.

  • How to keep a copy of the image file on memory card when using tethered shooting with a Nikon D800?

I love tethered Shooting but as default (at least for Nikon) Lightroom does only save the file on the computer, not on the memory card.
Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?

Thanks. FWIW I'm very keen on improving tethering and lobbied Adobe endlessly until they added the overlay for shooting into layouts because it was a major reason why some of my clients were unable to switch to Lightroom from PhaseOne. But we have to be realistic and remember that tethering just isn't a key market for Adobe as it is for PhaseOne, so progress is painfully slow. For example, where is live view or setting exposure which are in PhaseOne? I'd be amazed if we get those features for a few versions, and that's why I point serious tethered shooters to other solutions. And realistically, assuming your understanding of the SDK is correct you shouldn't expect a change until the next full version of Lightroom.  Good if it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Forced White balance during tethered capture

I have updated the Lightroom to the latest and greatest. I am not sure that this was a problem before, but heres the scoop. I have built a preset to be applied during tethered capture. I have unchecked the white balence check box in the preset settings. After I save it, I applied it to the tethered capture floating bar. The gofy things is that when I shoot, all the things I asked for happen, except the white ballence. It forces this yucky uber warm white balance. Just to make sure it was not shot that way, I then selected "as shot". It immediatly went to the color of the shoot and looks great. I have tried re saving it, I tried turning off other color options (thinking that somehow they might be related in some odd way) but no go. I know that there are many little gotchas in LR and I do pretty well with rooting them out, but I am at a loss on this one. Thanks.

  • Tethered Shooting with 5d Mark II and Aperture 2.1.4 not working

Is the 5d mark II not supported by aperture 2? I've been successful shooting tethered with the EOS utility (version 1.6), but whenever I use aperture 2, my camera freezes up and the buttons won't work. I have to power down and disconnect the USB. On the tethered HUD, it says that the 5d mark II is connected, but i'm unable to take a picture. Anyone else have this problem, or know how to solve it?
    Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, the 5D Mark II isn't yet have support for tethered shooting as does the 5D Mark I. There is an Automator action you can set up with a "Hot Folder" using the EOS capture utility that is a decent work around. Been using this technique for several months now. I'm sure an update or next version will include tethered support.

  • Tethered shooting in lightroom cc

i recently purchased creative cloud and found out that my camera is not supported in tethered shooting ... how do i add my camera model so i can shoot tethered

If your camera is not on the list you will need to wait until it is supported or use another application for tethering.
It would be useful if you told us what you have!!

  • Tethered shoot in LR5.3 with Nikon camera

I am a mac user with 10.7 OS. I recently upgraded to LR5.3 and thought to try out the tethered shooting feature with my Nikon D300. In the ‘Tethered Capture Settings’ window it shows the naming format as a DNG file. I only import image files in their native ‘NEF’ format though I am aware of the advantages of ‘DNG’ files.
Anyway I noticed the captured images were named as ‘nef’ files with its standard sidecar xmp file. Note the lower case lettering for 'nef'. I am not able to import these files to my external HD because these images were grayed out in the Import window. However if I changed the format names to upper casing, NEF, these images are visible for import.
How can I avoid the extra step of having to the change the casing of the letters and have the captured images in the tethered shoot all have the correct upper casing instead?
    Thanks
    Raymond

    Yep

    Geoff,
Thanks for the response. When the aforementioned problem occured I did check on the Lightroom Preferences. In the Preference window there are 5 tabs, General, Presets, External Editing, File Handling and Interface.
Under the File Handling the only options I see for "File Extension" are 'dng' or 'DNG'. Is this the settings you are refering to?

  • Lightroom auto import/tethered shooting strangeness

Hello, I'm trying to work out a tethered shooting workflow for the 1Ds MKIII that can keep up with a fairly rapid lifestyle shooter. I'm on a Windows XP system, 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 duo system with 3 GB of ram. I'm seeing this same behavior in LR 1.3 and LR 2.0 beta.
I've followed the steps Martin Evening outlines on his blog (Canon EOS utility in conjunction with Lighroom auto import) here http://lightroom-news.com/2008/02/07/shooting-tethered-with-the-canon-eos-1ds-mkiii/ and everything is working _almost_ smoothly.
When I fire off a single frame with the camera, it takes about 5 seconds for the Canon EOS utility to copy the file to the hard drive and for lightroom to see and move the file from the watched folder to the destination folder. This seems reasonable.
However, when I start shooting at a normal pace (approximately 1 frame a second) it seems like Lightroom stops watching the watched folder until I stop shooting for an extended period of time.
I would have thought Lightroom checked the folder at a standard interval, every 5 seconds or so. However, if I snap, say 40 frames at the rate of 1 a second, Lightroom doesn't realize there are new images in the watched folder until I stop shooting and let the camera's buffer empty out.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone know if there is a registry hack to force lightroom to check the watched folder more frequently? Even better would be a hook, like a command line switch, that tells LR to check the watched folder immediately. The EOS utility 'linked software' preference could be configured to call this hook, and would result in much snappier performance.
    Thanks for the help,
    Andris

    Hi Andris,
It strikes me that you have hit the maximum buffer that the combination of the Windows OS, EOS Utility and Lightroom are capable of managing. As you will have read in the report, I was able to fine-tune the tethered import to a rate of 3 seconds per capture image. This was with an Intel iMac 2.8 GHz duo core running Windows XP with 4 GB RAM. So a little faster than your Windows machine, which would explain why my download tests were faster.
Look at it this way. There is the usual buffer of up to 12 frames on the camera in raw mode, which when combined with the 2 seconds it takes to transfer say, 25MB data from the camera to the computer via USB 2. This means that you can shoot at a rate of 1 frame per second, but will soon hit the camera buffer first in around 20 seconds or so at that rate. it takes about a further 1 second for the files to auto import into Lightroom and as you point out, Lightroom appears to do this in bursts. How to speed that up, I don't know. What I do know is that any background activity will slow down the import. On a shoot this week I was busy building an export of high res JPEGs from the catalog as I was shooting more downloads and as one would expect, this did affect the performance.
It would be nice if the tethered shooting could be made faster, but as far as I am aware, this combination is the fastest yet and certainly faster than downloading from a card. As for Capture One, I don't know yet if they have managed to get tethered shooting sorted out for the MkIII.

  • Tethered shooting help

How can I get tethered shooting to work again? It did before but now Lightroom never detects my camera. I have a Nikon D600 with the latest firmware, Lightroom 5.7 and Windows 8.1 64bit. I tried everything on this site already: Troubleshoot tethered capture in Lightroom

I have the same problem and no one answered to my post.
I am suspecting windows 8.1 to stealing the camera resource and hiding it to Lightroom.
I tried ALL recommendations on the Adobe support site and it still does'nt work.
It works well with Windows 7 though.
    Any Windows expert around ?

  • LR4.1 and Nikon D4 tethered shooting

I use LR 4.1 and shoot with a Nikon D4. Lightroom does not recognize the camera (D4), whereas Sofortbild (amother ththered shooting software) does not have an issue. How does it work on LR4?

I did my first shoot with Capture One Pro 6 yesterday and shot over a 1000 frames in six hours with not so much as an issue at all.  While I could not do a direct comparison with LR it seemed substantially faster than LR was with my D3s.  It also never had the need for a single restart of any kind.  Now I don't know much about using the program so I stumbled around abit looking for how to put files where I wanted them (never mastered that it put them in it's idea of a Capture location) but it did name the files as I asked and worked flawless in supporting dual monitors as well during the shoot.
I wish LR was as clean to use so I would not be capturing here and then putting the work into LR for the rest of my processing.
