Slideshow/gallery help please.

Hello, I am new to Flash and I recently purchased the new
CS3.
I need a slideshow type object for my website. I don't want
it to have a next button or for the user to have any control over
it. I just want it to scroll through pictures and maybe add some
fade effects (use seen this type of object many times before). How
would I go about making one of these? Is this considered a
slideshow?
I know CS3 has a template for a slideshow but it has the
control panel with it and I'm assuming it would be easier if there
was a pre-made slideshow that I can edit that is more related to
what I'm trying to do...

Aperture to .Mac Web Gallery Help please. Urgent !!

Hi, I having been going round in circles trying to figure this out -
Q1) I cannot find a way to update to my published .Mac web gallery from Aperture(2.1)
When I select the versions that I want to add to the gallery I drag them into the Web
Gallery album in the projects inspector and synchronize the gallery to update, but
only the Master images are added to the published web gallery, not the versions !?
Q2) Also, when I originally created the Web Gallery album Aperture imported my entire
project (All masters, complete stacks, vers etc) but somehow only published the versions
I had selected for publishing to a .Mac Web Gallery. Why has aperture included the Masters,
complete stacks etc in the Web Gallery album ?
If someone could help with this, particularly Q1, it would be much appreciated as I have
a client waiting to see more versions which I cannot manage to add to the existing
published Web Gallery for that client.

I have tried everything, but same result - Aperture only publishes the unedited Master, not the version with Adjustments. When I originally published images to the .Mac web gallery I disabled all downloads, as the gallery is intended for client review & selection only.
Some further questions if you don't mind.. Am I doing the right thing in dragging versions from the project to the Web Gallery album (in projects inspector)? When I do that I see that Aperture copies both the Master & version to the web gallery album (they are both visible in the web gallery album) The problem is that only the Master is published to the .Mac web gallery (which i don't want), and not the edited Version(which I do want) This worked ok the first time around when I created the web gallery album and published it to .Mac galleries, however I did notice that the web gallery album in Aperture contains the entire contents of the project (Masters, complete stacks & versions etc)
The Aperture manual is very vague on adding new images to a web gallery album and publishing them to an existing >mac Web gallery. It says that this can be done, but not how to do so. I may be missing something simple and obvious, but the Aperture user manual is really not sufficient in this area. Any further ideas or suggestions would be welcome. Thx again.

Text/slideshows/menus--help please!

Hello. I'm sorry if this turns out to be a little longwinded question, but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and need to get a better understanding of some things before I can finish this project.
I am editing a video and authoring a DVD for a non-profit group, and after each segment, they want a section where text information comes up on the screen, and then pauses until the user selects the next or previous frame. I am trying to figure out the best way to do this, that will allow for the most flexibility and simplicity. I originally started out making the graphics in Photoshop and then saving each layer as a TIFF and importing these into a slideshow. The main problem with this was that the clients wanted little buttons saying next, previous, etc. and I don't know if this is possible in a slideshow. Also, I can just imagine a couple weeks down the line they will want to change the text on some of the slides and I will get confused trying to go back into Photoshop and alter it and hope that it refreshes in DVDSP.
My next thought was perhaps there is a way to create "slides" by using menus but I'm not sure if this is a viable option either because it doesn't seem like you can control the text formatting in menus very much. To enter text on a menu do you have to create a button or drop zone? I can't seem to figure out a way to create a bounding box so that the text wraps inside--everything seems to just extend to the borders of the frame. Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
I guess ideally what I'm looking for is a simple solution to this where I can copy and paste the "slide" text and apply a style to each frame or menu so that everything looks consistent. Also, it would be nice if there would be a way to change this style so that it applies to every slide in the project (I'm coming from a web design background here and thinking of Cascading Style Sheets).
Also, I bought a DVDSP book and it suggested creating graphics at the dimension of 720 x 534 and then letting DVDSP stretch them as it imports. Any thoughts on this? Is this the best way to get good image quality?

Just checking thru the specs - there is a limit to the number of tracks you can use 99, but as far as menus are concerned the only limit that might apply is the numbver of VOBs which is up around 3200. If you've got more menus than that your viewers will be crossed eyed anyway so you can probably just bluff your way thru it!
Layered menus - AFAIK the way the layered menu works is you import your layered PS file, each layer representing each different button's highlight and activation state. So if you wanted to have say 3 buttons on a page and when you highlight each button you fill an area of the page with say text describing what that button does - these layers can overlap because you're only one highligh will appear at a time. In reality DVDSP is generating separate menus for each of these highlights and creating automatic menu jumps, this is why you cant have motion video or audio under a layered menu, because there is no way for it to keep in sync as the button states jump from menu to menu. My personal feeling is as you need to create all the graphics anyway you may as well do it page by page and know where each link is going, especially in a long detailed project. If you wind up in a muddle with 100 layered menus you might as well start again.

Modern Photo Slideshow template help, please...

Hi guys and gals... Happy Thanksgiving! Now, back to work,
right? Yikes!
First time questioner, and I think I've done my due diligence
on searches, etc, but...
I am getting back into Flash usage after a few years off, so
I am pretty rusty. I'm stepping on the
Modern Photo Slideshow template that comes with CS3, and am
almost done! I've resized, deconstructed the god-awful controller
down to something simple and elegant, added all my client's 27
images, set the publisher to play=true...
BUT, I can't seem to break the code: I'm trying to get it to
start in Autoplay=1 mode (play on download), but it keeps skipping
the first frame. I've tried quite a few very simple code tweaks,
like changing various zeroes to ones, but can't seem to find the
rosetta stone.
If I simply add a null frame to the beginning, so that image
1 is at frame 2, it goofs up the framecount, as well as the looping
elegance. I guess that would be fine, if I could figure out the
proper syntax for making the framecount display (i.e.: 1 of 27)
equal to framecount-1 to compensate for the null frame at the
beginning. However, that 's just a Big Hammer method of solving my
problem. Surely there is a more effective and proper way?
Summary: All I really want it to do is start in
autoplayStatus=1 without blowing past the first image.
Anyone know if this is a simple code tweak? I'm so close, I'd hate
to switch to a different template, as the client loves what I've
currently got.

Found the answer: when you double-click the mc, controller
sitting on the stage, there is a frame script that has about 58
lines of code. Sitting at the bottom is
autoplayStatus = 0;. When you set the value to 1 (one) and
test the movie, is starts in auto-play mode.

Uploading photos to MobileMe Gallery - Help please

I have MobileMe and have created a public folder for uploading photos to. On my iPhone, I can click on a photo and see the option to send the photo to MobileMe. When I go to my MobileMe on the web, the photo is there BUT it is only 800x600 instead of full resolution. I'm assuming that since it e-mails the photo to MobileMe from my iphone, it must reduce the resolution, eh?
Is there a way to prevent it from reducing the resolution? I just want to be able to upload my iphone photos to MobileMe while on the go. I understand that the MobileFiles 2.0/Pro application gives you the ability to access your iDisk storage, including uploading from the iphone to idisk. However, I cannot seem to confirm whether it will allow me to upload photos that I've taken with the iphone's camera or if the uploads have to be from within the MobileFiles app? Also, will this also result in a reduction of resolution?

How many galleries do you have? If only a few try deleting them manually from the iDisk/Web/Sites/_gallery folder and republish from iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Gallery(help please!)

I've made a photo galery like in flash semples
"...\Macromedia\Flash 8\Samples and
Tutorials\Samples\ActionScript\Galleries\gallery_tree.fla". The
lables of fotos are loaded to the "Tree component" from the XML
file. The question is if the label of photo is too long, how to
make it in multiline automatically in a tree component!

I have a Nokia N82 and i have one problem with my gallery. My files,which I have on my Memory card isn´t in gallery.

It sounds like the gallery database is corrupted, make a back up of your stuff using PC Suite so you don't lose anything then reformat the phone using the code *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code) unless altered by yourself. You may need to copy media off your memory card and reformat that also.

Hello,
I'm new to actionscript in general, I do know a little...
I foung a gallery script, modified many things, the images
open fine, everything is working, but here's the thing:
the gallery is in 3 sections, red, blue and yellow.
I would like to know how, what, and where to put a script so
that if a "the small red image #1" is clicked, I can load any sort
of a movie on top of the "the BIG red image #1" or #2 or 3 and so
on...same goes for the blue and yellow...
If I figured things correctly on my own...the small thumbnail
images of the gallery are not buttons, that's why I can't attach a
movie (let's say) to them...but it is all written in script, using
the horizontal and vertical position of the mouse to open the large
images of the gallery...
So, I don't know how to figure things out, to attach a
specific movie to a specific thumbnail...
p.s.: I think the script that controls the gallery is in
symbol 120
I really would appreciate the help

Screen Saver and Size of Background - Help, please!

Hello there!
I have a brand new Dell computer from Best Buy. With my last computer (Gateway), I was able to set up an automatic screen saver of a slideshow of pictures if my computer was not used for a certain amount of minutes.
With this new computer, I have set up the same settings, but the screen saver NEVER comes on. I have clicked everything I need to, accepted, and saved the settings, but it never works. Any ideas?
I decided to try and fix it myself, so I went into the Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Change Screen Saver, and then went into Power Settings to see if maybe the display wasn't working for this reason. I cannot remember what I did, but now the background picture is HUGE.
To fix this, I have gone into screen resolution and display/power settings, but everything seems to be set to "recommended", so I cannot figure out what happened to make the images so large suddenly.
1) Can you help me get the screen saver slideshow to activate?
2) How do I get my background pictures back to normal size?

Wow, so sorry for the hype delayed response. it could be that your laptop was timing out for powersave before the screensaver would kick in. The best thing to do is go into your screen saver, set it to 1 minute and then let it sit for a minute without touching it (with it plugged in). It should kick in. Again, most laptops cut the monitor off after just a few minutes to conserve the power of the battery. I'm glad that the other solution worked for you =)

First, what is the formatting of the external hard drive? It should be OS X Extended (journaled). You can determine it by selecting the EHD and typing Command + i.

If it isn't formatted to that you should move the library off of it and reformat.
The "!" is an indication that the file path to the original file has been broken So make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Empty iphoto library, albums still there, photos in Finder, help please

The last time I opened iPhoto with my library present, I got a message saying that this version of iPhoto could rebuild my thumbnails with better detail and did I want to rebuild now. I said yes, as they hadn't been rebuilt in a while. There were three files created after that ThumbJPGSegment.data, Thumb32Segment.data and Thumb64Segment.data. When I open iPhoto, it says "no photos" at the bottom and the screen is blank and gray. On the left only some of my albums are listed as they were, and all contain (0) photos. I do have all the pictures still there in Finder. I read the exchange from 10/31 with Terence and it would seem I have a corrupt file that needs to be copied or restored. I have a back-up of the library, but it exists in three parts. The first two were created using the backup facility back in June. Then I backed up, again with the utility, just the pictures between the last back-up and the end of our trip in July. We just completed a 10-month trip around the world and I have about 19G and 5,400 pix to restore and would like to keep them in the original albums, esp. since many have been photocasted and the links are all placed in a Photo Archive page on our website. Terence said to copy the library6.photo file from the backup to the hard drive, but can I do this in three parts? If I use the backup utility's restore command will that do it for me, considering the fact that the complete library is a combination of two different back-ups? Help please! Thx!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Help please -My HQ photos are being rendered in very poor quality in iMovie

I have a problem I cannot solve in iMovie (HD 6.0.3).
I am making a movie/slideshow of photos using very high quality photos imported from Aperture. I'm finding them incredibly BAD quality when it comes to the rendering of finished product, the most obvious problem being the pixellation (seen as wavy lines) when the Ken Burns effect is used. It looks the worst on a plasma television, which it is being made to watch on.
I have burned it at the highest quality I can find, but there is still no improvement. Can anyone help please? I'm doing this as a gift for my parents, but don't want to send them something of inferior quality.

if you've burned it to DVD, then its probably a standard definition iMovie project which means that is 480 lines interlaced. it makes no difference how high quality the originals are, they'll still be re-sized down to 480 lines and since its interlaced, that means that you're only ever showing every-other line. and because standard definition alternates between the odd and even numbered lines, you'll probably see lots of shimmering in the highlights. it will look worse when you try to stretch it across a high-definition TV because there's interpolation going on to up-convert the whole thing back to the 720 or 1080 lines of high definition.
in short, you'll never really get super-high quality from a standard definition TV and you'll only get good results on a high-def TV if you keep everything high def (720p or 1080p) throughout the entire workflow. and until Apple updates its software to handle Blue-Ray or HD-DVD authoring, it'll be very expensive to master those kinds of discs!

There are no updates to either OS 10.5.8 or Safari 5.0.6.
If you need a later version of Safari you must first upgrade your operating system to a later version of OS X.

At the end of my IMovie I want to write some text: as in" Happy Birthday Mandy we had a great time with you. etc.. How do I go about this? Which icon in IMovie lets me have a place to write text?? help please

You can choose a background for the text from Maps and Backgrounds. Just drag a background to the end of the timeline, adjust to desired duration then drag title above it.
