Slideshow help

I'm putting together a slideshow that I'd like to burn to a dvd and show in an auditorium. What is the best way to do this? IDVD gives me poor picture quality...limited time to get this done...any ideas?

If the video projector supports more than VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) AND if it is Mac compatible, you can use FotoMagico to create a higher resolution slideshow for playback via your computer; you can probably also do something like that with iPhoto.

  • Error while rendering menus/slideshows--HELP!!

    Ok. I've done my homework on this forum and the Mac help pages and nothing fixes this problem.
    Initial issue: I have an iDVD project with pictures in drop zones, audio in the background, two menu pages each with 3-4 movies (both .dv and .mpg4), and a menu page with nothing but background audio and text.
    While trying to create a disk image I received the (familiar to this board) error that there was an "Error while rendering menus/slideshows" and that burning was to be aborted.
    What I tried:
    I cleared 41 gigs of free space on my boot drive.
    I transfered all of my media files onto the boot drive.
    I verified and repaired permissions. (until I did these last two items, the program wouldn't just fail, it would crash my computer, giving me the multilanguage *you must restart* greyed out page).
    I downloaded the most recent quicktime, iTunes, and Mac OS updates.
    I created a new iDVD project with only one video file (sepearately tried just a .dv and .mpg4 file).
    I removed all quicktime extensions from my 'library/quicktime' and '~library/quicktime' folders.
    I changed from 'higher quality' to 'better performance'.
    I told it to process in the background.
    I told it to delete the rendered files when it was done.
    I ran the apple hardware Test from my Apple CD.
    I turned off the hard drive/screen 'sleep' settings.
    I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
    I swore and came up with multiple comically profane file names for the disk images.
    Nothing. It always gives the error following the 'processing menus' portion of the rendering.
    Facts:
    iBook G4
    1.2 GHz Power PC
    1.25 GB Ram
    41.77 Gigs of free hard drive on boot disk.
    iDVD v5.0.1 (625)
    iMovie HD v5.0.2 (111)
    Quicktime v7.1.5
    Mac OSX v10.4.9
    I'm running into a deadline and need to have this burned!!
    *** Mac?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.2 G Ram

    I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
    Why in the world would you do this? You are in the
    NTSC area. You must change the NTSC/PAL setting
    BEFORE you start a project.
    Mostly because I don't know what it means and wanted to try anything.
    All the video and audio is original content.
    I ended up going to the Mac genius bar today. They said that it was a corrupted encoding file solved by a reinstall of iDvd. Sounds like a lot of people run into this problem?
    On the topic of file formats... do you know why my titles look great in iMovie, but look like crap once I export them? Even if I export at "Full Quality". And is .dv better than .mpg4? I need a good primer.
    thanks,
    Ian
    I suspect the problem lies in your mpg-4 content.
    iMovie/iDVD have very spotty mpg-4 support. Try
    using something like VisualHub (
    http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/ ) to convert
    your mpg-4 files to DV format. (You may also be
    having problems with the music used in your menus.
    Where does it come from?)

  • More clear question  for slideshow help - Kin?

    Hi Kin,
    You have been very helpful in getting me this far - I know
    this last detail would be a very easy thing for you to do.
    I tried to get it to work for the dssmTitle by adding another
    dssmTitle.addObserver
    http://www.tsgraphics.net/slideshow_test/
    The mouseover function is fine the way it is. It's how it
    behaves during the slideshow that is a little wierd - it just sits
    on the first story. It would be great if it switched to each story
    like the small nav at the bottom highlights to each corresponding
    nav to its story during the slideshow.
    I hope this is more clear.
    Thanks!
    TS

    Hi TS,
    So it sounds like you want to change the current row of
    dschapters and stop the slide show on mouesover, and then re-enable
    the slideshow on mouseout right?
    Try something like this:
    var gTimerID = 0;
    var gInterval = 3000;
    function StartSlideShow()
    StopSlideShow();
    gTimerID = setInterval(function(){
    dschapters.setCurrentRowNumber((dschapters.getCurrentRowNumber() +
    1) % dschapters.getRowCount()); }, gInterval);
    function StopSlideShow()
    if (gTimerID)
    clearInterval(gTimerID);
    gTimerID = 0;
    dschapters.addObserver(function(nt,n,d)
    if (nt == "onPostLoad")
    StartSlideShow();
    <div id="nav" spry:detailregion="dschapters"
    spry:repeatchildren="dschapters" spry:choose="choose">
    <div spry:when="{ds_RowID} == {ds_CurrentRowID}"
    id="nav2" class="currentChapter" spry:setrow="dschapters"
    spry:hover="hoverRow"><img src="{thPhoto}"
    onmouseover="StopSlideShow();
    dschapters.setCurrentRow('{ds_RowID}');"
    onmouseout="StartSlideShow();" /> </div>
    <div spry:default="default" id="nav2"
    spry:setrow="dschapters" spry:hover="hoverRow"><img
    src="{thPhoto}" onmouseover="StopSlideShow();
    dschapters.setCurrentRow('{ds_RowID}')"
    onmouseout="StartSlideShow();" /></div>
    </div>
    On a side note, if you are trying to bring your question to
    the top of the forum again, post a message in your original thread
    ... that is don't create a new thread each time ... that way the
    context of your questions is preserved for others to read. If you
    post new threads each time, folks have to search for your previous
    posts/threads to get context.
    Thanks,

  • Flash CS4 presentation slideshow. help!

    Hello everyone!
    I need help creating a presentation slideshow in Flash CS4 for an online course with many slides. The outlook is that it would look and work very much like power point except that it will be done through Flash CS4 and uploaded online.
    I really don't know where to start and any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you in advance.

    thanks..
    actually.. i know this is digressing... onto another program here but.. im almost pro with fireworks CS3 and just realized that CS4 has a flash slideshow creator built into it that is really easy to use.. the only thing is that when i go to 'export options'  in the slideshow settings.. i browse for an export path and select it.. but it seems the program malfunctions and can't select any location.. it just stays blank thus.. creating the flash slideshow i would like to do.. cannot be completed.. can someone help me with this... or shall i go to the fireworks forum.

  • Photo Slideshow Help

    I don't much care for most of this new iMovie, but the Ken Burns effect controls are way better in '08.
    For this reason alone (and that if offers a couple additional bells and whistles that iPhoto doesn't have) I am using it to put together a 350 photo slideshow for a friend's wedding.
    The friend gave me all the chronologically ordered images on a CD which I imported into a new project and set about applying the Ken Burns effect to all of 350 of them.
    THEN.. she changed her mind and wants to group the images thematically (i.e. Friends, Family, Travel, Camping, etc.)
    What is the easiest way to move the photos/clips around?
    It seems I can only move one at a time and there is no bin I can place the clips for organizing purposes.
    Moving one at a time is going to be a major PITA... but so would starting over and redoing the KBE's.
    Also... this isn't a question, but.. the audio management in '08 is super lame. No crossfading? Come on. Don't give me the "take it to GB and bring it back" workaround. I don't want workarounds. I want a piece of software that works.
    On the upside, it is faster. No rendering delays. That's nice. Thought I'd end on a positive note.
    Any help with the reordering of clips would be appreciated.

    What is the easiest way to move the photos/clips around?
    Unfortunately, as you've already discovered, there don't seem to be any "internal" shortcuts. Would likely remove all transitions, overlays, and titles and, starting at either end of the project, use a "bubble sort" algorithm to manually move each photo to its new location (and hope KBEs don't change). Then finish by rebuilding transitions, audio, and titles. Would be more likely to use this approach if and only if KBE are not changed while re-ordering the individual photo icons. On the other hand, if you do re-start the entire project, then you could "import" the photos as ordered groups (if you alredy have them grouped this way externally) and use the "auto add" feature to insert them into a new "project" and automatically apply the transitions (if all are the same) at the same time. (Also may be a good idea to start a new, separate project if your friend is one who is prone to constantly changing their mind.)
    As to audio, how are you adding and adjusting it? Are you placing them in each photo segment or adding them as a background? Fading in/out seems to be automatic or non-existent depending settings, number of audio tracks, and where/how embedded. Do agree that the old "rubber band" approach did seem much more logical and offer better accuracy with regard to what you could do.

  • IWeb Slideshow help/problems/question

    Hi everyone. I've been searching through all the posts and keep trying to use various methods to create a pop-up slideshow inside my iweb page. Nothing is working OR maybe it just can't be done?
    I need some expert help to check this one out for me. It would be soooooo appreciated at this point. Many of you seem pretty advanced with getting around the limitations of iweb.
    Here's my site, created all in iweb. In the "Design & Print" page I'd like to put a hyperlink that opens a new window with a flash viewer like simpleviewer. It seems like a real pain but I have to conquer this problem. Thanks everyone for your help!!!!
    Main site:
    http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/main.html
    Problem page:
    http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/design_print.html

    OK, here's what I would do:
    1. Get this program:
    http://mountainmandan.net/webexport
    Adds a tab to iPhoto Export pane to export SimpleViewer or other slideshows.
    Upload the resulting folder to your server. So the address would be
    http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfolder/index.html
    2. In iWeb, make a link on the design&print page to
    http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfolder/index.html
    3. Publish to a folder as usual, but don't upload yet
    4. Now you will need to make a slight change in the html code in order to make this link open in a new window. You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the desig_print.html file and click Open.
    Find
    href="http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfolder/index.html"
    Replace with
    target="_blank" href="http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfolder/index.html"
    Or, if you want to specify the size of the window,
    Find
    href="http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfolder/index.html"
    Replace with
    href="#" onclick="javascript:window.open('http://www.razorheadsnyc.com/nameofslideshowfo lder/index.html','_blank','width=x,height=y,toolbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,loca tion=0,status=0,scrollbars=0,directories=0'); return false;"
    x and y are the dimensions you want the window to be.
    Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

  • Imovie photo slideshow help

    Hello! I am using imovie for the first time to make a photo slideshow set to music. I am up to about 100 pictures and for some reason, each one I add will only display for a few seconds. I change it to 5 seconds, and it will adjust but it will also reduce the # of seconds another slide displays. The more I change, the more that I see are only displaying for 1 or 2 seconds.
    Is there a maximum length in imovie or is this something else?
    Help is greatly appreciated.

    The way transitions work is that they will take half from the slide in front and half from the slide behind.
    For example, if you have 3 five second slides, it looks like this:
    {5 second slide} {5 second slide} {5 second slide}
    The total length is 15 seconds.
    If you add two second transitions, it will look like this:
    [4 second slide} {2 second transition} {3 second slide} {2 second transition} {4 second slide}
    The total length is still 15 seconds.
    For many applications, especially in video, this is the way most people want it.
    If your prefer that all slides stay at 5 seconds with a two second transition in between, there is a trick. The total length in my example will now be 19 seconds, which is unacceptable for video, but is OK for stills.
    To do this, go into File/Project Properties and set the default photo length to be 5 seconds, and set it to apply to all photos in the project, not just ones that are added in the future.

  • Exporting photo slideshow - HELP!

    I've been trying to export my photo slideshow with final cut express 4, and every combination I've tried always comes out blurry when the photos have movement. I was able to export them clearer on imovie. There must be a way to import photos, give them movement and export them somewhat clearly. Can someone please let me know what they have done to achieve this.
    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks for all you help Tom. However, It doesn't seem to be working. I just did a short 5 photo project with new photos and the result was the same using the previous steps - Blurry when in motion and clear when stopped. Do you know anyone who has had success with a photo slideshow with movement to view? Have you tried making one and burning to dvd.
    Thanks again for all your time and help. For some reason this is trickier than it looks.

  • Creating a SLIDESHOW- help!!

    Can I CREATE a photo SLIDESHOW on Photoshop Elements 12 (for MAC)???
    Photoshop 9 does NOT have the feature, and it's driving me nuts!!
    Also, can I burn such a project to Blu-Ray (I have Premeire 12 installed on my I-Mac).
    Help!!!

    Many thanks for the relpy- I have already imported my folder of 500 TIFF images into Premiere Elements 12, and in the Organizer, you can preview a slideshow but you can't CREATE a slideshow project- hence, I suppose you're suggesting that I drop each TIFF image into the Video Timeline individually and edit transitions in between each- and that would be like going through an elongated root canal considering the volume of images I have.  But thanks for the suggestion, because it answers my questions about slideshows in PE and PRE- you have to buy another software application to do that kind of work, like FotoMagico.  It makes absolutely NO sense that a photo program like PE 9 doesn't have an option to "Create" slideshows- completely bogus.  I'm using a new I-Mac, and they opt you to create photo collages, albums, calendars, etc. etc.  but not a straightforward, BASIC and COMMON project as a slideshow presentation- so I'm forced to buy another
    application.  Adobe is LAME.
    Thanks again!

  • No Sound SlideShows Help Needed!!!!!!!

    Hello Everyone:  I cannot get my previously made Slideshows to play with sound in PC's that only have Adobe Reader.   The SlideShows will play with sound on PC's that have Adobe Standard or Professional installed.  My friend also has the same problem.  These sideshows were created with PSE 6,7, and 8, and the old PSA 3.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what is causing this problem and how to fix it????
    Thanks any help will be deeply appreciated.
    Robert

    I assume you mean PDF slideshows. They open on my PC with Adobe Reader but with a user requirement to allow blocked content.
    If I click on the windows strip and authorize the file, I get to hear the sound.
    The only other option is to upload pdf's or embed them in web pages so they open instantly in a browser.

  • Simulation versus reality / skipping tracks / moving slideshow - help!

    Hello all,
    We've just switched to dvd studio pro 3.0.2, and are struggling to achieve the same results as in our ancient version 1.5. I hope someone can help!
    The dvd we want to create is one that:
    - starts playing automatically without action from viewer and without a (visible) main menu
    - contains 6 to 10 short (30 second - 1 minute) films that are played in a fixed order
    This I have been able to create using separate tracks, and setting the first track as 'first play' for the dvd. However, I want the viewer to have the option to skip to the next short film.
    In simulation mode, this works perfectly - selecting the forward button will take the viewer to the next short clip. However, it turns out that when I burn the dvd, there is no possibility to skip forward (or backward) between clips.
    In 1.5, I used to use the slideshow option to avoid this problem. Unfortunately, slideshows in 3.0.2 can contain only still images.
    I have a feeling I should be using chapters, but don't know how. Also, I don't understand why something should work in simulation mode, but not on a burned disk.
    Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    Lianne.

    Bring all the movies onto one track, place markers between them, and create a story (not needed to do so, but sometimes I find it has more control that is easier to implement). Then set the end jump of the track (with alll the clips on it) or the story (if you want to use that) to the menu

    Is there any way to change the default '3 seconds' used for Front Row slideshows? I want to do this without specifically creating a slideshow in iPhoto to change the slide time.

    I'm having a problem with a slideshow I'm trying to recreate to make some small changes. The original flash video is at the bottom of this page...

    I don't have the original .fla file, and I did not create it.

    Should I be setting this file up as a slideshow presentation? If so, do all of the buttons & stops go on the main presentation slide? Any advice as to what actions I should be using for the navigation?

  • Elements 8 Slideshow Help Needed

    Hello, I have Elements 8 and while creating a slideshow my pictures dissapear or something else happens because when I preview it, all I get is a black screen.
    I've tried smaller pictures, adding sound, saving then previewing, even when I export or share the saved result is nothing but a black screen, no pictures. I hear the music I added, but no pictures. Even if I add a blank slide and add text, nothing. I'm stumped and frustrated. I followed the online video tutorial exactly and still no luck. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I've had the software for about a year and a half and never used the slideshow part until now.
    Hoping somebody may have come across this issue before,
    Computer info if it will help.
    vista 64 bit sp2, but running adobe in 32 bit
    Nvidia gtx580 graphics card
    12 gig ram
    Intel i7 920
    Thanks!

    First suggestion --
    I have experienced this type of issue with the black screen in preview and it was caused by lack of authorization.  I was running under Vista and I circumvented the problem by starting PSE using Run as Administrator
    -- in other words instead of left clicking on the PSE icon on the desktop,
    -- I right clicked on the PSE desktop icon and chose " Run as administrator" from the right click menu
    The above process was necessary despite the fact that my Windows userid did have administrator authority.
    There is a theory among several people that this can be caused by uninstalling an earlier version of PSE after you installed PSE 8. However, I doubt that is absolutely the only reason.
    Second suggestion--
    If my first suggestion does not solve your problem, then I think the second most probable cause is some problem or inconsistency with the driver for your video card. Your Nvidia gtx580 is a powerful video card -- so perhaps there is some inconsistency with another component on your system. How recently have you updated the driver for your video card ?
    -- Have you ever been able to do a PSE slide show preview ?
    -- Have ever been able to play back an WMV file output from the slide show?
    FYI -
    If this is one of your first alide shows with PSE, I suggest that you also post how you plan to display your finished slide show -- for example - will you burn it to a DVD disc ? Do you also have Premiere Elements ?

  • Flash Image slideshow help

    Hello,
    I am trying to make a image slideshow for my companies new website.
    I used the Flash Image Viewer plugin from Dreamweaver, but it doesn't contain the transitional effect desired.
    Every tutorial I find talks about advancing the images through an interactive control, I just want the images to change by themselves and do a fade transitional effect between images.
    Can anyone please point me to a tutorial that has this w/o the intractive buttons?  I have been looking on the internet for hours and can only find tutorials / example w/ the intractve controls.
    Thank You for any positive direction in this.

    Hmm... no luck so far.  Thank You though for your suggestion.
    I am really "green" to flash and was only confused by the template provided by Flash.
    All I need to do is have images fade in and out of each other and then repeat over and over.
    I know this isn't too hard.  I found a tutorial that showed how, but my Firefox decided to close and I lost the page and haven't been able to find it since.  Tried the history log, but no luck.
    I will keep searchin...I know it's out there.
