Slideshow in finder

Please help
You know when you highlight multiple jpegs in a finder window and right click you get a quick view choice in the menu.  If you hold the option key you get a slideshow choice.  All that still works, but now the slideshow control doesnt disolve away.  My Airbook does and my imac used to.  All of a sudden it doesnt.  It is very annoying to have to watch a slideshow with the black controls on top

Have you tried clicking away from the controls at all to see if that helps? Doing this will advance the slideshow once, but may trigger the system to have the controls disappear. You can also try moving the controls slightly by dragging one of the vertical lines in them, or try clicking the "Index" section of the controls to spur a different view, after which perhaps the slideshow will kick in the proper behavior of the controls.

  • Slideshow in Finder (or anywhere but Iphoto)

Previous discussions are all archived and don't appear relevant--none of the fixes proposed there work, and my iMac is a year old, so maybe the software was changed. All I want to do is run a photo slideshow in Finder. References to Spotlight and Preview in the archived discussions are no longer workable. Please help! Thanks.

There used to be a method where you could select the image files in the Finder and in the  Contextual menu choose an option to have a slideshow with the in Quicktime. That's no longer available.
Now all we have available is the Quicklook option to view the photos from the Finder.

  • Viewing Photos without iPhoto?  Slideshow in Finder?

How can I view a large number of Photos without importin to iPhoto. Mail has a slideshow option for photo attachements, but I cannot find a similar function in the Finder.
I have received a CD with 1000+ photos. I'd like to preview them and copy the few I want to keep into a separate folder for importing into iPhoto. I have tired the thumbnail, but even making the thumbnails as large as Finder allows doen't give the detail I am looking for.
    Thanks.

Weird...I don't seem to have a limit for the # of photos I can have open in preview: I once had 4300 open at once. I can even view all of those in a slideshow. But, I can't use the index sheet feature when all of those are open. I can only open about 600 photos and still be able to use the index sheet. That's probably a limitation due to my screen resolution, though. But, it is really slow (even with my new macbook) when I click on the index sheet because it has to resize all 600 photos at once. You are probably limited due to your computer (I'm not sure which of the three listed ones you use for this, but they are not as fast as my MacBook).

  • "Slideshow" feature in finder...?

Have a folder full of images. I select all and control-click to bring up the menu, then click "slideshow".
Works great, however seems to display the images in a completely random order. Even bringing up the index of all images in slideshow displays them out of order.
Is there a way to have the images play in the same order as their filenames are listed? (Alphanumeric)

Search for "slideshow in Mac Help Menu. Instructions for using slideshow:
    "Viewing images as a slideshow"
You can also pick a folder of photos, select all or just the ones you want, then right click and select slide show. The slides play in the order the folder is organized.
Windows people are often unpleasantly surprised when the Mac doesn't work like windoze. The Mac has numerous ways to make slideshows, the finder version the least used of them all.

  • Finder built-in slideshow blinks after fade-to-black before starting

When I start a slideshow from Finder, the screen fades to black smoothly, but then when it's black, it blinks back to normal view for few millisecs before starting the slideshow. This makes the fade-to-black totally non-effective.
The effect is the same when changing resolution (the screen blinks on for a while). Anyone else has this?
It's not visually nice at all. How to get rid of it?

This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Finder's Slideshow feature: Where are the controls?

When I try to use the slideshow in Finder, its doesn't behave as advertised in Help. I don't see the promised full controls, just Zoom In/Out, Add to iPhoto and Quit. Nor can I advance the playback using the Arrow key, in fact the first image just sits there—forever if I let it. The Missing Manual clearly shows what's missing on my MacBook and talks about an auto-advance of 3 seconds. Can anyone help me correct this behaviour or explain what's [not] going on and/or why?

Hi BD. Not iPhoto—never use it—nor ScreenSaver. Here's a Cut and Paste from Help:
In the Finder, select image files in a folder or on your Desktop. Then hold down the Control click as you click one, and choose Slideshow from the shortcut menu that appears.
Use the controls at the bottom of the screen to switch between the images:
To stop and start Slideshow's automatic playback, click Stop or Start.
To move forward and back manually, use the arrow keys.
To view all the images at once, click Index Sheet. Click an image to view it.
To zoom in to and out of an image, click Fit to Screen or Actual Size.
To add an image to your iPhoto library, click Add to iPhoto.
To exit the slideshow, click Close.
As I said, the only controls that show for me are the Zoom, Add to iPhoto, and Quit. None of the other controls appear, and the arrow keys do nothing.
I ran maintenance a few days ago, and will do so again, as soon as I'm finished the job I've started.

  • Slideshow - stretched image + low resolution

    Hi guys,
I have a wide screen that runs at 1440x900. I have my slideshows configured not to "scale image to fit screen" as my images are in 4:3 aspect and scaling it to fit the wide screen makes everyone look fat...
Viewing a quick slideshow from Finder or Preview works correctly, i.e. the photo fits in the screen's hight, with black down the sides.
When I start a slide show in iPhoto (6 and 08), it switches down to 1280x800, and seems to ignore the "scale image to fit screen" setting being set to "off" - so the images are all stretched sideways.
I suspected at first that it might be a video RAM issue, but the G4 Mini has 32MB dedicated video RAM, and the slideshow works fine (without switching to a lower resolution) in Finder and Preview.
I found one other post, posted in the iPhoto 5 section, with no responses:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5155628&#5155628
Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a way to force iPhoto to leave the resolution alone and obey my scaling wishes?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The three options I have for format are: Current display, 4:3 (iDVD, TV) and Widescreen 16:9. The 4:3 option puts black bars on either side and pins the height. The 16:9 option put black all around the image. Do either of these work for you?
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto, reset the preferences and try again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Force slideshow screensaver to read new files

I want to drop a picture into the /users/me/Pictures/SS folder and have the slideshow screensaver find the new picture for its next rotation.
Currently, it seems to do this only if I connect to the machine and restart the screensaver from an interactive session.
I would like to do this via SSH.
I have found that sending signal 1 via the kill command to the /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSav erEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine process doesn't work.  I have not found a way to reliably restart the screensaver if I send a 2,3,6 or 15 signal.
    Any ideas or pointers?

  • Why will transitions in Pre8 slideshow not be accepted between some pictures and accepted between ot

When applying transitions between pictures in a Pre8 slideshow I find that occasonally the space between the pictures will not accept a transition that I am dragging to it.  It doesn't make any difference as to which transition that I'm trying to use.  I even tried inserting them by right clicking on the space.  The frequency of occurence appears to be random.  It sometimes occurs after working  OK for as few as 2 or 3 pictures and other times it wont happen for 10 or 15 pictures.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had this problem and has been successful in solving it.
    Jim

Zoom into the timeline at one of these places.
Often, when arranging or re-arranging photos on a timeline, if you drag one clip too close to another, you actually split it and a small sliver of a clip is between the new clip and the next. When you try to apply a transition, the program can't apply one to such a small clip.
You may also see these accidental "phantom clips" between your main clips if you temporarily switch over to sceneline mode.
Also per the FAQs to the right of this forum and my books, if you don't ensure that your photos are no larger than 1000x750 pixels, you will overload the program and get some pretty strange behavior. Are your photos larger than 1000x750 pixels in size?

  • Problem with Slideshow music:

Recently I had just gotten back from a long trip to Australia. Just the other day I was finishing up a slideshow and finding music to go with it. Right when I had the playlist to use selected under the slideshow's music settings, I accidently clicked the 'sort by name' tab and now my songs are out of order! And I cannot deselect it! I had to go in ITunes and had to manually change ALL the names of the songs to have them play in the right order... It is even the same in all my old slideshows and whenever I create a new one...
Can anyone help me with this problem?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto, reset its preferences back to what you want, i.e. appearance, etc., and then try the music again. You'll find that the iTunes playlist is back to its original order set in iTunes.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • SlideShow in the Home Page

How can we create a Slideshow on the front page of our application/?

Are you using a particulary slideshow plugin or something you've found on the web? Lots of free options are pretty easy to find with a quick google search. Then you just put your images into a directory on the file system or on a remote server or workspace images if you prefer. upload the javascript css files.
Create an html region on your app front page and create the script tag referencing the js and the link tag referencing the css. Put in your HTML.
I know the response is vague but each slideshow you find is going to be different. But they all work in essentially the same way. You can create from scratch but there are so many customizable free options out there already built. Why reinvent the wheel?
You can even create different slide shows with different sets of images using conditions on separate html regions.

  • Feature available in slideshow? (Request)

I sometimes make a long selection of photos to create a slideshow but find some duplicates which I would like to remove (and are not consecutive) as I PLAY the slideshow. I am thinking, pressing the "D" or "R" key could make it for me. Is there a feature like that in slideshow that would save time?

    anangeli wrote:
I like the answer, which is nice, but I would rather think it is  better if it could be made on the fly while the slideshow continues.
Since the dupes could be anywhere in your slideshow a better way to find them is to use the Survey (N key) view mode and hit the Tab key to close the side panels. To see even more images drag the selected slideshow images to the Quick Collection or a separate Collection and adjust the thumbnail size to see upwards of 100 or more images in one screen view. You can't permanently delete images from collections, but you can mark them with the Reject Flag and then filter on them when your done to remove the images files from your hard drive. Just be very, very careful when deleting images permanently. To remove them from inside a collection simply hit the Delete key–The file will not be removed from your hard drive.

  • Images don't show on slideshow screen

Do the IPhoto files have to be in a certain order in specific files. I was making a slideshow and trying to organize them and my slideshow worked find and then suddenly, all of the images show at the top but the screen is black. Can anyone tell me where the file needs to be or what I've done wrong. Thanks

    redchick,
Are you saying you did your own organization in the iPhoto Library folder that is in your Pictures folder. If you did, then read these links...
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
since you have very little you can start all over and import the images from the old library.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
Good luck and keep me updated on your progress!

  • PLEASE HELP! Flashing desktop/finder - can't do anything!

    Hi,
My mac just went crazy and I have no idea what to do, Please help me!
I've just installed a program called Slideshow Magic (shareware downloaded from download.com) and after making 2 slideshows the finder just started flashing. Basically all the desktop icons and the top bar appear then dissapear about every 2 seconds, the little black arrow next to the Finder icon in the dock appears and dissapears at the same intervals, so I assume the Finder is opening then quiting, opening and quitting over and over.
All other programs can be opened from the dock.
I've tried restarting and shutting down but the same problem occurs everytime I start up.
Can anyone suggest what has gone wrong or more importantly how to fix it, it has all my art college work on and I've got a deadline next monday so I really need to get back on my feet. Any help will be MOST appreciated!
    Thanks for your time
    George
    Power Mac G4 Desktop

    Hello,
Thank you both for your suggestions, however neither have worked.
Dale, I went through Dr Smokes guide and all was fine apart from the Cache Cleaning software. I couldn't install the software as the finder isn't open long enough to allow me to do so.
Niel, I tried booting with Command and S held down and ran the commands you suggested but to no avail.
A couple of things I tried doing myself...
I ran the Hardware Test by booting from the cd and holding the option key. I ran the extended test and everything passed, so I know its not a hardware issue.
I then booted from the cd again and updated the system software, upon restarting the desktop appeared fine, but after about a minute it reverted to it's flashing state. The two files that I created from the slideshow program (that originally caused this problem) are still on the desktop and I assume that they have caused it to go again.
Can you suggest a way that I can delete these files and consequently stop the machine crashing every time I update the software?
    Cheers
    George

  • Play all slideshows

I have three slideshows on one DVD. I wanted to put music to the slideshows and since the iDVD is automatically set to run the slideshow in the time allotted to the music, I had to create 3 slideshows or find a 12 minute song. The bottom line is, is there any way to play all three slideshows using 3 different songs without having to go back to the menu. Essentially autoplay 3 different slideshows

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No really. If you create the slideshows in iPhoto with music and send to iDVD you can put the three QT files that are created in the process into an iDVD slideshow and they will play sequentially.
After you Share->Send to iDVD from iPhoto you can close iDVD without saving and find your movie in the Movies folder. Do that for each of the three slideshows and then add the three to an iDVD slideshow as indicated above.
