Slideshow information

I am new to action script. I've searched for hours to find a
tutorial, but no luck. I am making a website that is predominantly
a slideshow, with at least 50 pictures, that plays on entrance. I
want to fade the images in and out. I need a back/forward button
and sound. Does anyone know where to find a tutorial or the actual
action script. Thank you. Bobi

Hey Bob. There is actually a slideshow template built into
Flash CS3, and I am pretty sure there is a section on it in the
Help manual. If not, Pogue Press's Missing Manual series for Flash
CS3 has a chapter just on that feature. However, I have even better
news. There is a program called Flash Slideshow Maker Professional
link that does it
in very easy steps that are about as customizable as you would
need. I have used it and am very pleased with the simplicity of use
and complexity of finished product.

  • With the update to Aperture 3 all the Aperture symbols turned grey ??

After automatic download and installation of Aperture 3 all the Aperture symbols (top line (e.g. Import, Slideshow, Information) and in the info line at the left hand side of the frame (e.g., Mediathek, Projects, albums etc.) turned to grey color. They had blue, yellow and other colors before.
What to do or is that correct as it shows?

    Hey Frank,
I was afraid hearing somebody saying: "It's correct".
What a silly change and what a shame. Couldn't Apple leave it up to the users to chose via 'option for grey/option for color?'
Looking through all the posts of this discussion I take it as an offend when reading:
"... you can easily replace the new grey icons with the old colour ones.
Just view package contents on aperture and goto the resource folder........
I'm a software user not a software maker.
    Nevertheless, thanks for your answer.

  • Create a Slideshow that pulls information from a database

I want to create a slideshow banner that will showcase our products. The slideshow will contain the image of the product, the name, the price, the item code and the link when someone clicks on it. Each week we update the best sellers and it can be from 5 to 15 different products. Similar to what we have now in our website www.deiequipment.com which now is static, we want to animate it and rotate the products like a slideshow.
The problem we are encountering is that we have to manually update the slideshow content.
We would like to know if there is a way through scripting or catalyst to connect to a database and simply update all these fields automatically. So for example if the database has 5 items, automatically will pre-fill each field listed above and the slideshow will have 5 products.
If we update the database now with 10 products, to update automatically. That way we can create 1 slide show, the time it takes to rotate to the next product, and add simple button controls to the slide show for next and back that will simply go through the loaded items.
I tried to do a research on how to do it online but some takes me to scripting, others to catalyst dabases, but none are specific to what I need.
As a note, the image will just be an image holder that will be updated with the image field in the database that points to the URL location of the image.
Any help is greatly appreciated! thanks

Thank you for reply and assistance.
I was doing some testing on my side regarding the size and if I do a single box rotaing ad, it will be 180 W x 220 H
If I do the banner style it will be 540 W x 220 H that will have 3 boxes similar to this:
Where the images will rotate right to left every 10 seconds and repeat once they have reach the last item.
The image holders will be 100 x 125
The fields that will change will be:
Name - Ex. Clear, 6" Polycarbonate Bud Vases, 12 Pack
    Price - Ex. $26.28
    Brand - Ex. Cambro: BV6CW-135
    Image - URL http://www.deiequipment.com/core/media/media.nl?id=4239&c=562544&h=d2979ac8391cf36bfcb3
I am using Flash Professional CS5, I am not too familiar with the actionscripts yet, but I have done programming in the past so I can do research on how to work with those.
Once again, thank you for your help!

  • TS4425 How can I remove Photo Stream pics from my Apple TV slideshow?

I am a decorator and take photos of furniture, fabrics, etc on my phone daily, but I do not want these photos cycled in the slideshow on my Apple TV.  I have iTunes pulling photos from designated folders on my home computer, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove my iPhone photo stream pictures.  Suggestions?

    Hi lpetershagen,
Here is an article of information on ways to delete photos from Photo Stream:

  • Slideshow set to autoplay does not work after loading a pdf file

    Hi,
While developing our app we encountered a problem whereby on an article page, we added in a slideshow function set to autoplay to show various images and also we created a button linking to a PDF file which we added into the app to allow users to get more information about the slideshow images.
We noticed that while the slideshow is being played and when we launched the pdf file and closing it again, the slideshow stops playing. It doesn't reset itself either. The slideshow just stops at the image on when we launch the pdf.
    Any solutions?
    Regards

That's how they work. Slideshows pause when you open up an in-app browser window. There's no setting to change/configure this behaviour.

  • I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message.  This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac.  I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message.  I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old.  Obviously I'm using iDVD.  I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem.  A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above.  I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD.  Still the same message came up.  I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened.  This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened.  They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had.  The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's.  The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message.  The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work!  It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion.  I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy.  It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems.  Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.
    Jayne Connelly

Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter.  So much appreciated.  And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this).  Although, you may regret asking for more information.  I've added everything I can below.
The process I used is as follows:
Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
Add title to front of clips
‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
Select submenu  - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
    Change title colours on clips
Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
    Try new DVD discs
Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
    Change images in drop zones
Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
Try with one clip and no menu pages added
Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
    Turn computer off and restart
    New hard drive
    New optical lense (thing)
    New DVD burner
Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
    Other points:
I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across.  I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went.  It burned to disc image successfully.
The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this.  That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.
Other technical stuff that I don't understand but you may:

  • Nested MSO, slideshow inside MSO triggered by button, invisible on start, able to open/close

    Consider the following scenario:
(albeit, this may not even be the right way to do this, or perhaps such functionality is not possible based on existing tools at this time, however, I thought I would post and see if anyone has a trick to share...)
I have a slideshow on the page, it is set to auto play.
I would like to hide it initially, and have it trigger with a button... and then let the user close it. Much like the "light box" effects we have all come to know from the web.
    Seems easy enough.
However, in my first attempt to do this I did the following:
1- create an OPEN button (F1)
2- create a container box and a CLOSE button, grpup them (F2)
3- turn them both into an MSO (M1)
4- set the button in F1 to trigger F2 (open state)
5- set the button in F2 to trigger F1 (close state)
    -> test, works.
    next step, slideshow!
    I grab 5 images, create a new MSO (M2).
Turn it into a slideshow Folio Overlay...
    -> test, works.
Now this is where it gets funky...
MY FAIL 1- If I try to take M2 and then right click M1, there is NO paste into option.
MY FAIL 2- If I click on the Object States Panel, and then Right click State 2 for M1, there is no "past into option"
MY FAIL 3- If I try to "Alt+Ctrl+V" with M2 into State 2 for M1 it does not work.
--> nor does any other scenario where I attempt to paste any MSO into another MSO
    I have even tried
x- grouping the MSO slideshow with a non MSO element such as a frame, text boxt, image, ect..
x- taking the 5 images and pasting them into the MSO seperate, and then trying to turn them into a new MSO inside State 2, which the new MSO button is greyed out and will not let me apply it.
Possible solution I have come up with after looking over alot of Bob's stuff in the tutorials area
(PS his videos and tut's realy help, its a differant kind of thinking going on here with DPS, I imagine it relates to how the C in the binary works and is translated by the InDesign GUI into app code... would be nice to just type in "function on_tap(){open_slideshow(vars);}"  lol silly programmer, this is primarily a tool for designers  ... but I do think its awesomeness, as a programmer, I dont even want to write code anymore after using DPS and Phone Gap...),
so... here it is, not necessarily the most attractive...
1- Make the slide show MSO, push to BACK, set to auto play and swipe allowed...
2- place a large opaque box on top of the slideshow, group it with the OPEN button
    3- create a close button
4- turn them into an MSO, now there is an 'open' button in state 1 on top of an opaque box that sends to state 2, and a 'close' button in state 2 that sends to state 1
This seems to work, I have not tested it on all devices, the iPad will kind of do this wierd glitchy thing, as if it "knows" there is something moving underneath the opaque box. Depending on how I have positioned scrollable frames on top of these elements from a stacking perspective there can be some unexpected behavior. The best results I have had from more complex layouts is to get creative with positioning...
any other suggestions, tips, tricks, would be appreciated
    ON a site note:
    POSSIBLE BUG:
ANYTIME I try to take ANYTHING that is already using the FOLIO OVERLAY and right click the STATE in the STATES PANEL
In Design total crash!!! The only time I can take a  FOLIO OVERLAY (FO) and "right click paste into" an MSO state is by clicking on the state on the stage, it can not be done from the panel, the panel only works with non "FO" items... Even though the state in the panel shows the "past into" option, if I do, *poof* instant app crash... FYI for anyone toying with this. Kudo's to Adobe for the outstanding "auto save" feature. It has saved me time, and there for in some strange way, has also saved some of my life.
Here is what InDesign poops out when a "Folio object" is attempted to be "pasted into" an MSO via the MSO panel.

@zagarskas – nested MSOs are currently NOT supported by Adobe.
However we could build such a construct by using ExtendScript (Adobe's flavor of JavaScript).
The problem with that is, that Buttons inside  a nested MSO will not work as expected. At least my testing is showing that.
If you want nested MSOs without Buttons (inside the nested one) or if you like to experiment, see the following thread:

But please, read the whole thread from a to z ;-)

  • Creating an image slideshow as an animated gif in flash

So before asking anything, let me start off by stating that calling myself an amateur flash user is an understatement (once I animated a circle moving across the screen and became more proud of myself than I should have been...). that being said, I hope I dont cause anyone's brain to explode from my sheer ignorance.
I've created an animated gif that's supposed to act as a slideshow, so it's a very simple. however, when uploaded to the website we want to display it from, it gets a little wonky and shows an inconsistency that does not show up anywhere else - it runs through the frames just fine, until the very last frame (the 5th slide)... i can't even explain the horrors of this malfunction without providing an example:
    http://www.vflyer.com/home/home/flyer/3083238
-ps ignore the poor image quality, unless you have any suggestions for improving that as well, I already modified the document to improve the image quality and it came out better that what is shown, but not fantastic.
any ideas for why this would be happening? I don't know if it's something i did (which is most likely the case) or a glitch with the site itself.

I would expect that a javascript based slideshow may work as Acrobat supports a form of Javascript. Acrobatusers.com may have some information on the subject.

  • Help!  I need to have hotspots in a slideshow.

Okay, here is where I'm at, and I really need some help.  Background information: I have Flash CS4, but the tutorial I
used to create this used Action Script 2.0.
Here is a link to what I have...
    http://atleventguide.intuitwebsites.com/
Click on "inside this issue."  This is just a basic mockup of the site, but you can see that the client wants to have images of the pages of their publication that you can browse and have their advertising be clickable so it takes you to Coke's site for example.  The example you see there I did in Flash, but I was having trouble making the hotspots be active at the right time -- i.e. right now Morningside market is clickable even when the image is not up, and then it goes away and the hotspots I have on Coke aren't working.
The client also wants to have links to each page by number i.e. Front Cover/1-2/2-3.  So I saw that that part would be easy to do in Fireworks, but can't figure out the clickable aspect.  Then on the other hand, in Flash, I can't get it all to work either.
I'm stuck in the middle -- I can only get half of what I need to accomplished and can't figure out how to get it all.  Thanks so much if you have any advice!

Just like you should have different images for each frame, you should have different hotspots for each frame. When you place the same objects in adjacent frames the latter ones can inherit characteristics from the first ones.  To avoid hotspots losing their identity like this, alternate layers for them (two separate layers) so you can have blank keyframes between hotspots but not skip a frame.
As far as having buttons that go to different pages, just create the buttons and have their functions use gotoAndStop(#) commands, where # is the frame number for the section of the slideshow.

  • I have created an extensive slideshow w/music on my MacBook Pro iPhoto. How do I export a slideshow so that I can burn a DVD from it? "Help" does not offer info for this request, only if you want to export to another Apple device.   Help!!!

I have created a lengthy slideshow with music on my MacBook Pro under Iphoto.   What steps do I need to take in order to burn a DVD copy of this slideshow?     "Help" does not offer info for this transaction, only if you want to export to another Apple device and it shows that you must first export to Itunes.  Can anyone help me with information on just copying to a DVD?  I don't want to email it or show it on another Apple device.  I want to be able to burn multiple copies on DVDs as a gift......    Can it be done?   I'm not real computer savvy

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
    Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

  • How do I transfer iPhoto slideshows to a PC?

I was wondering how I would go about this. I have iPhoto (Version 2.0.1) for iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.1.
My ultimate goal is to send this to my iMovie app (Version 2.0) to add music with precise timing, which you cannot do in iPhoto. I would then like to put the finished slideshow on Facebook. I have made the slideshow with a specific theme that I would like to keep. I can't duplicate this theme with a different program or software.
Help please. Any answers will be appreciated.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Manually-entered date information doesn't stay with photos outside iPhoto

    Hello--
I'm having problems trying to share the date information I've manually added in iPhoto to all my scanned photos.
I understand because they are scanned photos they are really new files where the image creation date is the day they were scanned. However, why is it that I can export the title, keywords, and location information of any of these scanned photos but not the date information that iPhoto is storing and using to sort the photos by date?
I've tried exporting the photos to iDisk, sharing via e-mail with the title, keyword, and location information, and downloading specialized EXIF viewers (now understanding that a scanned photo isn't really going to have any EXIF data like a digital camera photo would). The only place external from iPhoto that I seem to be able to view the date information I've added to the scanned photos is in my MobileMe Web Gallery (but not when uploaded to a family member's Web Gallery), but only when selecting the "Show Detailed Info..." menu item after opening a photo...this date info does not come along when I download the photo from my own Web Gallery.
I've also tried changing the date on these scanned photos using the Batch Change... menu item with no resulting change over setting the date in the information area for the photo (I still only see the date I've set in iPhoto or in my Web Gallery).
My ultimate goal is to send many scanned photos with titles, keywords, and date information to a family member also using a Mac to build a slideshow with photos from several of us all sorted properly by date. Right now we're unable to figure out how to do that. Entering the date information into the description field allows that textual data to come along when I share via e-mail, but it doesn't solve the problem of allowing other people to sort automatically by date with a larger set of photos without them having to transcribe that textual date info into the date field in the information area of the photo.
Thank you very much in advance for any specific instructions on making this work! This is getting quite frustrating at how something so seemingly simple and valuable is turning out to be so difficult to figure out.

    audio capture/auto ID3 tagging
What do you mean by this?
On the Windows machine I have an app called 'Spin it Again'
I use it for Vinyl and analogue tape capture for stuff that I could not fford to go out and buy new ( if even now available).
All I have to do is put in artist name and title and it finds from online database (Gracenote plus others) , it analysis the audio and automatically splits the single capture in to individual tracks, saving the track names to each track, it uses recorded track length and database info to to comfirm/database naming. It also has basic audio filtering/crackle/hiss removal, audio cleanup options all in one package.
I have yet to find anything that does the same job on the Mac,
iTunes will auto tag tracks from an online database.
The iTunes store database is very limited and does not have much of the older stuff. Plus I have always used FLAC format as my 'archive store' for all my audio, so ripping with iTunes is out For CD's I use EAC with Accurate rip to rip them and that also uses an online database with much greater range than iStore.
    Have you searched on MacUpdate?
To an extent, and Garmin are now producing some better software for mac for their GPS units. But still nothing much in the Freeware world yet. I have tried a few apps for GPS over the last year (yes I have had a Mac for almost a year now) but still found nothing that has all the functions that I am used to on the Windows machine, and as I still have the Xp machine set up next to the mac , all on the same screens, then there is no difficulty in swapping machines. It is not of that great an importance that I am going to spend too much time on searching for Mac apps..something will turn up in time...as Name Mangler has done. I spend too much time on these bloody machines as it is...it is now 1210...and I have been on here since 0800...I had planned to go down the farm and do some work down there this morning...another morning gone and nothing real to show for it.

  • How do I add a 5th photo to be viewed in a scrolling slideshow while still keeping it 4 photos long?

I am not sure if this really makes sense. But I am working with a template in Dreamweaver and the template has a 4 picture vertical slideshow(attached photo). It is really not a slideshow but I do not know what else to call it. So I want to add more than just 4 pictures but everytime I go to add a picture it turns the 4 picture slideshow into a 5 picture slideshow rather than hiding that 5th picture until it is scrolled over using the up/down buttons at the bottom. Initially the Up/Down buttons are of no use unless I can figure this out and add say 8 pictures instead of just the 4. If now I will just have to remove the buttons since they would be a waste of place.
This is the html code used in the template for this slideshow. If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated since I am sort of new to Dreamweaver. Also if you need more information I would be happy to provide you with anything.

Well I tried placing that in various places. Under .images which stretched each image to 500px since that would equal the 4 images. But instead it stretched each image.
I placed in layout.css under the appropriate index which worked but once I tried to place another image it tried to just add it which eliminated the Up/Down buttons.
In other words I have no idea where to place this code plus it probably doesn't help that I am pretty new to dreamweaver. So I attached the layout.css, style.css, and index-3.html which is the page I am working with right now. Thank you.

  • Are you seeing a colour shift in 720p and 1080p h.264 slideshow exports?

When I export video from Lightroom 3 (or 3.2), I see that 720p and 1080p output can be very different in colour from other resolutions. It's as if my display profile were being ignored when playing back those particular resolutions.
Playback client: Apple's QuickTime Player X on Mac OS X 10.6.4. If I use VLC or QuickTime Player 7, colour is consistent across all export resolutions but is consistently wrong compared with the original photographs. (Again, it's as if the ICC display profile is being ignored.)
Display profile: my display is profiled and the profile is an ICC v4 file but I can reproduce the issue with some v2 profiles, as well.
    AVC vs h.264
One oddity (that might be a peculiarity of QuickTime Player) is that when I view the 720p and 1080p movies, and ask for information about codecs (command-i), QuickTime Player X tells me that these two movies use AVC encoding. For all the other sizes, it says claims h.264. My understanding is that these two are effectively the same thing; on the other hand, it's curious that the two sizes showing different colour from the rest are identified differently. And QuickTime Player 7 claims AVC for all resolutions and always gets the colour wrong.
Is this just a QuickTime Player X bug? It gets colour right for all resolutions except 720p and 1080p, and provides a clue by saying the movie uses the AVC codec? Or is this an encoding issue?
    Other sizes are fine
Exporting and playing back any other h.264 movie size, from 320 pixels right up to 960 pixels, provides perfectly acceptable colour in QuickTime Player X .There's a slight shift compared with the originals but nothing dramatic, and it's consistent across different sizes.
Any thoughts? Can you reproduce the problem?
I've tested this on a bunch of different Macs but they're all running 10.6.4.  Can anyone see this problem? Would anyone like to test on Windows and report back? The results seem to vary wildly depending on your display profile and how far it is from a canned profile so if you really want to be sure of seeing the differences, switch your display to "Wide Gamut RGB" for the playback test, then compare the 720p/1080p files with the rest, including the sRGB reference.
Would anyone like to tell me I'm being a complete idiot and overlooking something blindingly obvious? I won't be upset.
I was just about to post a note on the blog but thought I'd better post something here first. I'll probably ask readers to provide feedback here rather than on the site. I get the feeling that this issue won't be a big deal for most people.
    Some examples for download
I have a zipped collection of single-image slideshows generated by Lightroom at each available resolution, together with a 960-pixel JPEG (sRGB) of that same image to act as a reference. You can download it here (5.9MB). For the moment, you'll probably have to ignore the URL that you see in the slideshows and in the Read Me file—it points to the blog post that I was preparing but which I haven't yet published. I'll do that next so anyone reading the blog will come here and post.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I'm being dumb about something.
    Update
I've added a 720x480 file that shows the same problem and updated the URLs shown in the movies and the Read Me file.

    Bahi,
just to illustrate what mess this is, I tested for you on Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) using the same wide gamut monitor. Here are two screenshots from that experiment. I converted the screenshots from my display profile to sRGB to show you what I see and scaled down 50% (this is a 30" behemoth). First Leopard.
You see they are all the same, but different from the sRGB export you provided. The GB sticker is too blue and the tint on the car is wrong. I doubt anybody but a photographer would notice though.
    Next is Snow Leopard:
Here the 320 pixel, the 480 pixel and the 960 pixel image are different from the 720 pixel, the 720p and the 1080p ones. Neither is strictly correct as they are all different from the sRGB display. This is consistent with their being no real color management, just gamma corrections and color space transforms (video is usually not stored as RGB but as YUV, necessitating a transform for display). Annoying, but not much you can do about it.
Just doing some quick googling I came across many mentions of issues such as this. It clearly is just a big mess.

  • Iphoto 7.1.5- unable to buy book due to error in account information

After downloading the new iphoto version 7.1.5, I am unable to order my iPhoto book (as I have done several times before). I receive and error message that says
"An error occurred while confirming your account information."
I checked my account and internet connectivity and all is fine. only iPhoto is not working.
    Suggestions?
    thanks very much!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'd take Glo H's suggestion one step further and replace all account information online.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
