Slideshow Menu Chapter Forward Oddity

Anyone encouter this?
When I test my DVD project on a burnt DVD-R I encounter a strange Slideshow/Menu/Chapter Forward issue.
If I am playing a slide show that pauses at each slide indefinitley then I hit Menu (it is set to return to the menu button that triggered it) then hit menu again, it returns where it previously left off. But when I then hit chapter forward it it goes to the previous menu, the one that you were at to get to the slide show. Then when you hit menu again it goes to the Title menu. I think I can figure out the last part since that's how the selecting menu button is programmed, but the rest is wacky.
Thoughts?

Depending on the theme you choose, yes. Check the ‘Show Title Slide’ button in the Settings. It will use the Album title as a name for the Slideshow.
To insert a new title page in the Middle of the Slideshow, make a JPEG with the title and import it to iPhoto.
Or use another app...
BTW: these are all iPhoto 09 queries and you’re posting in the v5 forum.

  • Chapter forward goes to seperate tracks

Sorry for the dumb question, but I don't have time to reserch it. On my DVD player when I press chapter forward it will go to the next chapter, but when it gets to the last chapter in the track, if you chapter forward again, it will go to next track instead of doing nothing. What's my problem.
    Thanks

    Jake,
I'll pay attention to UOPs in next authoring !
I transmitted my experience with my JVC standalone player with some authoring I did some time ago. Everything worked fine in the computer but in the player (and in SPECIAL with slideshows) the NEXT button made a crazy jump to a track that had no relationship with the previous in DVDSP. I solved that crazy behaviour with connection settings "next jump" (It took me some time of researching to find the problem !).
Now I use to take care of the NEXT JUMP in the connections and never found such problems again in my player or in any customer standalone players.
As I told you, I'll read about the UOPs and try to experiment with them.

  • Apple TV update 5.1 broke chapter forward and back buttons.

Ever since updating to Apple TV software 5.1 (iOS 6), the chapter forward and backwards buttons just make the video stop playing and go to the movie/episode selection screen.  Is anyone else having this problem?

Boy I am glad I found this thread. I am having this exact same issue with my Harmony Remote and Apple TV after the latest update. I thought my Harmony Remote was broken since the Apple Remote still functions correctly. Specifically, the chapter forward and backwards buttons do not work correctly, they skip the song back a few seconds. Or, if at the beginning of a song, they skip backwards to a seemingly random track on the album. Thanks to this thread, I submitted a bug report at http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html. Hopefully they will send out an update to fix this. I thought I had dropped my Harmony one too many times on the floor and it finally sketched out. Whew

  • When I delete a name from the address book it does not delete it from the drop down name menu when forwarding a message. How do I remove it from the drop down menu?

When I delete a name from Address Book it is not removed from the name drop down list when forwarding a message. How can I remove it from the drop down list?

In Mail go to the Window Menu and select Previous Recipients. Deleting entries from there won't delete them from your Address Book.

  • Menu/Chapter design and names

I designed a menu with chapter buttons and names in cs2. I Have it in 2.0. When I drag the chapter points to the buttons the chapter 1 etc, goes in over the designed buttons. How do I use my custom design buttons and not the chapter default buttons in 2.0
    Thanks

In Photoshop, did you create a layer set with the (+) prefix in the layer set name? That's how you indicate a button in Encore.
You can also select a layer in Encore, then convert it to a button.

  • LR 5 slideshow Mac - no forward/backward?

LR 5.0 on a Mac (tried both Mac Mini, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air - all running 10.8.4).
When I run a slideshow and pause it, the arrows keys to go backward/forward are not working.
Created a "testuser" account (so no LR prefs that have been inherited) and copied over a test catalog.
    Same issue.
Also installed it on work laptop where I've never used LR.  So no old "cruft" on account or inherited.
    Same issue.
    Is anyone else seeing this?
Would be good to know if it's reproducible.

Victoria Bamtpon figured out a workaround in another forum.  They've added a new checkbox in LR5 "Manual Slideshow" in the playback module.
It means the slideshow doesn't advance by itself anymore but you can move forward/backward.  Not ideal by any means vs the prior behavior, but at least it gets me going again.
    Thank you Victoria!

  • Menu Chapter Indexes

I'm very new to Encore. In fact this is my first project.
I added my movie, and created a menu. Scene submenu is there too.
The movie timeline has 11 chapters. Alternating chapters when selected through the menu go to the first chapter instead of the one they are supposed to.
If I look at the flow chart, everything looks correct. Looking at the link lines between my menu and the chapters, there are little square gray boxes between the links that don't seem to work.
Also, if I redrag the link from the menu selection to the chapter (the one directly to the right of it already anyway), it replaces the menu selection title with that of the chapter 1 title :-) very strange.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Text replacement is due to Sync Button Text and Name. De-select it in the Properties panel for each button.
It sounds like you have either added overrides (dashed lines on the flowchart) or set up Button Transitions (single gray box on the link line).
Change *all* overrides to "Not Set" and delete any links to assets in the Transitions tab for the buttons that don't work.

  • Pause/glitch in photo slideshows at chapter changes

    Hi all.
I'm a wedding photographer and use iDVD to make slideshows for my clients of their wedding day. I usually make separate slideshows for getting ready, the ceremony and the reception. If a particular slideshow is longer than seven minutes or so, the DVD apparently needs to switch chapters. When that happens, there's a bit of a pause where the photos and the music stop. I have a client now who says her slideshow just stops there all together and they don't get the rest of it.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks very much.

Slides in an iDVD created slideshow are treated as 'Chapters' and the slideshow is a 'Track'. A DVD is limited to 99 Tracks and each Track is limited to 99 Chapters.
Prior to iDVD 6, ALL iDVD created slideshows were limited to 99 slides for this reason. Starting with iDVD 6, Apple created something of a 'hack' that links tracks together making a longer slideshow. Unfortunately, many/most DVD players don't like the 'hack' and will pause/quit/drop audio after 99 images.
The ONLY safe way to create a slideshow of more than 99 images is to create it as a movie out of iPhoto or in iMovie.

  • Add a second chapter menu page when using individual movie clips

    Hello!
I have imported about 20 short movie clips in iDVD and want them to be displayed in a chapter menu. But if I create a submenu as a chapter menu, I can't find a way to add a second page to this particular chapter menu. Of course I can add a new submenu with chapter menu styles, but then I get an ugly folder button (i'm using the white reflection style) and not a rightwards arrow on the submenu page that links to the second submenu page. If I add a Movie with 20 chapters, I get several submenu pages with left and rightwards arrows to navigate through them. Is there a way to get this effect with seperate clips? I don't want to join the 20 clips to one with chapters, because I want iDVD to return to the menu after playing each clip.
    Thanks in advance!

How long is your longest of the 20 or so movies you want to put in? One trick you might be able to use is to add a lot of chapters to that one movie to create a couple/few "scene selection" pages in iDVD. Add that movie to iDVD and the pages will be created.
Now add your other shorts. You can cut and paste between menus, so cut them from the main menu and drop them into the scene selection menus.
The chapters from your long movie can be selected and deleted, leaving only the short movies on those pages. Keep in mind that you are only removing the chapters from the menus. Those chapters will still exist in the movie itself so when someone is playing the movie and hit the chapter forward or back button on the remote, it will jump to the next chapter. But that might be fine.

  • Remote Menu button: to the chapter menu or the main menu?

Using DVD Pro (version 4.2.1) for the first time, and I've discovered a lot of fun elements. Here is a question about the remote control settings.
I want people to be able to return to the +main menu+ if they want while playing the track, by pressing 'menu' (and I've found the resume feature, too). However, the track has chapters, which are assigned to 3 chapter menus. So, when they are playing a particular chapter, i want them to be able to return from it to the +chapter menu+ it came from, by pressing the 'menu' button.
However, this doesn't work: when playing the video track, pressing the 'menu' button takes me to the chapter menu assigned to that particular chapter, not the main menu that I assigned to the track.
Well, I see in the handbook that the marker remote setting takes precedence over the track setting ... so which would you find preferable:
    1. when the viewer is playing the video, the menu button: goes back to the main menu.... then when the viewer is watching a particular chapter, pressing 'menu' also goes back to the main menu, instead of the chapter menu, so viewer has to navigate back into the 'scenes' menu
    or
2 when watching the whole video, pressing 'menu' takes the viewer to the chapter menu and then has to 'up' to the Main menu.... and therefore when watching a chapter only, 'menu' button returns to the particular chapter's menu, which is fine.
I thought I would have the 'menu' button return to the chapter menu:: up button for faster/easier access to the main menu, for viewers just watching the video, and convenience for viewers watching a chapter.
What is the more experienced opinion?
    thank you
    Elizabeth

Hal MacLean wrote:... 'Stories'. If you are playing the track from your main menu, then the menu call for the track should take you back to the main menu. If you are on a chapter menu and start playback then instead of going to the chapter marker, go to a story that contains the chapter marker instead. The story can also have a menu call and end jump set.
    Ahh!
The thing is, if you start a chapter playing, do you want the footage to continue to the end of the track, ....
Yes, that's exactly what i want, and as above, for the chapter in the chapter menu to return to that chapter menu
If the former, put all of your markers into a single story and set the menu call to go back to the chapter menu.
    Thank you!
I had already created stories from the second track on the dvd, with each one having an end jump back to the story menu and as no one had replied to this post, i had decided to make the chapters in the main track into stories too, but wanted them to continue into the next chapter. In fact i'd already created these 11 stories, some with 2 chapters in them, when I read your post.
So i did as you said and put all the chapter markers into one story, with no end jump for the chapters, but a menu call from the story to the 'chapter' menu instead of the main menu. Much cleaner than the way i had started to do.
And it works just the way i want it to : track's menu call is to the main menu, 'chapter' menu calls are to the chapter menu. Thank you so much!

  • Menu problems in Encore

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and I dont know my way arround.
I created 35 buttons in 2 seperate sub menus(18 buttons on first page and 17 on a second page). Everything works fine except I canot access the LAST buttonn on the 2 pages. Buttons 1 - 16 works fine but canot access button 17. Same thing for the 2nd page buttons 19 - 34 works good but but cannot access button 35. If I let the video linked to button 16 or 24 play, at the end of these chapters, the video will continue and play the info linked to button 17 and 34.
    Can anybody help me?

    Welcome to the forum.
I assume that you are doing Widescreen Menus. Is that correct?
[Edit] - the max. number of Buttons on a Widescreen Menu is 18, so you should be OK there. Now, that is ALL Buttons, and not just Chapter Buttons, so Main Menu, Back, Forward, etc. count too.
Are all of your Buttons showing completely on the DVD?
    Good luck,

I've installed all required lxde packages and menu-cache.

  • Adding "next chapter " functionality to menus ?

Is there a way direct the next and previous chapter buttons on a MENU to another menu or track? (not the arrow keys!)
WMP dosent seem to recognise transparent buttons with the mouse, and it dosent include arrow keys for navigation..
Its tough as Im building a "power point style" presentation and trying not to junk it up with buttons.
Oddly enough, Apple's DVD player seems to have simmilar problems, even though they work fine in the simulator.
Personaly I think it would be nice to add this functionality, as on many dvd players the chapter forward and back buttons are more easily found than the arrow keys. So if nothing else, just used for redundancy and added functionality.
    Thanks!
    - Ty

The problem occurs when invisible buttons are not detected by software players. (WMP) Visible ones seem to work.
So, "Click anywhere on the screen to proceed" does not work. And it looks like the answer is to just add visible buttons to everything. If chapter forward worked, it would solve this. Is there any way it run using a script?
This works great on a $30 hardware dvd player, just wish I could get everyone to use it on one. But that just isnt going to happen.

  • First time using iDVD for slideshow, need some guidance

I want to make a dvd that consists of 3-6 slideshows, plus "extras". Each slideshow will have 50-150 photos, but the "extras" section I want to have all the photos (including some not used in the slideshows) for a total of about 1300 photos.
    1. How do I get the photos not used in the slideshow in the "extras" section?
    2. Can I put anything in the "drop zones"? or does everything just go in the "slideshow" section?
This is the first time I have ever used iDVD and could use any help or suggestions at all.....
    thanks

Don't use over 99 images in a slideshow. You may have trouble:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302961
    1. Just create a new extras slideshow menu from the main menu by using the + button and select Add Submenu. Then go there and add slideshows the same way, only select Add Slideshow and then drag your images in; or use the Import funtion.
    2. Drop Zones are for single images/movies.
I think you need to spend some time learning how to do this, rather than guessing.

  • Jump to Slideshow at end of Movie?

    Hi,
How do I do this with a chapter marker? i just simply want a DVDSP slideshow to play if a user presses a chapter forward button before the movie finishes.
    TIA,
    James

Figured it out. Just added a chapter marker to end of movie track and set track end jump to slideshow. Not at all difficult.
