Slideshow module question

The ABC button lights up when I mouse over it but does not activate the text box. Windows 7 LR4.3 Any thoughts? Thanks

Click on the ABC button in the toolbar while in Slideshow module. This should open a white text entry box right of it, in the toolbar.
By default it is labeled as "custom text", but can be switched to display metadata, e.g. "caption" or "title" - far more useful for a slideshow, because you can re-use the metadata you have entered in Library module, specific for each image.
Then a new textbox is placed on the slideshow window and can be adjusted for size and location.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Slideshow Module: Slideshow getting stuck, won't auto-advance

We use Lightroom 4.3 in our studio to show our work to clients.  One of our slideshows is based on a smart collection of all 5-star rated images.  Before a client comes in, we'll click on the smart collection to load the images, go to the Slideshow module and use a preset we've created that has our desired background color, fade time, etc.  and hit "play".
Recently this particular combination is not working properly.  After a random number of images, the slideshow simply stops advancing and appears to be "stuck".  If I hit the right arrow key on the keyboard to advance to the next image, nothing happens.  However, if I hit the right arrow key twice, skipping the next image and going to a second image, the slideshow will continue.  It will then get stuck again after a few slides.  The only thing that I can figure is that by hitting the arrow key twice, I'm skipping a "bad" image that doesn't want to load.  I can't tell what image that might be.  The images that are held up on the screen seem to be different each time, because we are playing the slides in a random order.
Is there a way that I can figure out if there are some kind of "problem" images that cause the slideshow to hang?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Or does anyone have a different theory (other than the "bad" image theory) of what might be going on here?
Updating from 4.2 to 4.3 did not solve the problem.
Optimizing the catalog did not solve the problem.
Using a different slideshow preset does not solve the problem.
Using a different set of images DOES prevent the problem from occurring, but of course, I need to show these images. (Ex: a different smart collection that doesn't contain all the same images.)
    OS: Windows Vista
Images: combination of CR2 raw, PSD, and jpeg
No error message.  Slideshow simply gets stuck.
No recent changes to computer or software that I am aware of.
I just had a thought.  I am going to go play the slides NOT in random order and see if I can find any pattern.  In the meantime, any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I answered my own question.  My thought about unchecking "Random Order" and then playing the slides quickly showed me the problem files.  There were a handful of files that had a black circle with an exclamation point in them.  This circle was where the question mark normally goes if LR can't find a file.  When I clicked on the exclamation point, it said LR could not access the file, or something like that.  I simply changed the rating on those images from 5 stars down to 4, which effectively removed them from my smart collection without having to delete them from my catalog.  At some point, I'll go back and figure out what the problem was with those files, but at least my slideshow is back up and running!
The funny thing is that I've been google searching this problem for weeks with no results.  Then I finally post in the forum and while typing the question, I figure out my own answer.  Go figure.  But I thought I'd post this up in case someone else has this issue, because there's NOTHING about this anywhere else I could find. :-)

  • How do i put multiple pictures on one slide in the slideshow module?

The lightroom slideshow module appears to only allow one picture or one video per screen.  I would like to put everything within one folder (usually 4 pictures) on one screen.  any way to do this?  Does anyone know software that will do this if lightroom doesn't?  Thank you!

You could do this with Photoshop or using just Lightroom you could "print" mulitiple pictures to a jpeg file and then import the jpeg for your slideshow. Look under Print Job near the bottom of the print screen and choose jpeg file for Print To.

  • Problems accessing Music Files in Slideshow module in LR 2.6 and Windows 7 64 bit

Just got new computer 64 bit Windows 7.  Installed LR 2.6 and am having problem with slideshow and music.  Never had this problem before with my XP computer.  When I open up slideshow module and go to Playback window and check soundtrack and try to choose a music folder, I have a new problem.  It opens up "Browse for Files & Folders" dialog box as usual, but it only lets me browse on my desktop or my User name on the C drive.  My music is in my F drive where my data is stored.  I've never had a problem accessing my music in my F drive in my XP computer, but this setup limits where I can browse to.  Interesetingly, this works OK in LR 3 beta on this WIndows 7 PC where it opens up a dialog box "Choose a music file to play" which gives me access to all my drives.  In summary, I can't access music files stored on a drive other than my C drive using LR 2.6 on a Windows 7 64 bit computer.
I have attached a screen shot to compare the new Windows 7 Browse for Files & Folders dialog box to that in my XP computer.
         Would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks for the reply.  I went through the process you suggested to change Ownership  & grant permission to access files.  When I get to the owner tab in Advanced Security Settings....I am already the current owner of this folder.
    What do I do now?
    Thanks,

Running Lightroom 6 on Windows machine (after having upgraded from LR5... While attempting to add or change music in the Slideshow module, LR unexpectedly quits.  After several attempts at this, LR6 won't even launch properly...shows the splash screen but that's it.  The program is buggy...need an update/revision quickly!!

If you're on Windows, check out a free program called Audacity--it's fantastic.  With Audacity the process of converting a 48.000 kHz to 44.100 kHz is as simply as opening, changing the sample rate, and then exporting again, as an MP3.

  • Can't get to slideshow module in 1.3

I can't get to slideshow module in 1.3 "an error occurred when attempting to change modules".
    I am running Leopard 10.5.1.
    Can anyone help?
    Dan

I am still hoping that someone else has had this problem and knows a fix.
I have called tech support and I have learned that the only way they know to fix this is for me to create a new user account. If I create a new catalogue in the new user account I can then use Lightroom and the slideshow.
Obviously the hassle of moving everything into a new user account is not something I relish and am still wondering if anyone else has any ideas.

  • Changing font size in Slideshow module identity plate

Do the following steps to reproduce the bug in LR 3.3:
Select an image then go the the Slideshow module
In the "Titles" section make Intro screen and Identity Plate visible
Modify the plate's text to something different than the default
Change the font size to 72pt
    Now, preview.
The program always defaults to 36pt.
Edit: Scaling is working, though; but at the same scale changing the font size has no effect at all.

    Sala, hello. How are you?
Unfortunately there is no way to change the font size for that ActiveX control. Sorry for being the harbinger of this news.

  • Meaningful Slideshow module update, please - Ken Burns effect

Just upgraded to LR 5 from LR 3.  I'm floored that there still has never been any sort of meaningful update to the slideshow module.
Assume you want to make a slideshow for a funeral.  (That's probably what most people actually do with slideshows anyway).
As it is now, if I want any sort of decent slideshow, I have to do it one photo at a time, in Premiere.
I would like to see some simple automated animations - such as the Ken Burns effect, directly in LR.
My understanding is that this functionality that has been in Aperture for the last few releases.  I'm unclear why Adobe would not make at least similar functionality, let alone better.

  • MP3 issue in Slideshow module

    HI
In Slideshow Module, LR3 does not read correctly the .MP3 files (soundtrack checked) . Could anybody help me?
    Thanks; Christian

Oh, we're in the wrong forum. Look here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/lightroom3/
You should use LR 2 for anything that is not a simple test. LR 3 is far too buggy for any production work.

  • Can I include movie clips be played in the LR4's Slideshow module?

Hi,  I'am just starting to learn about LR's SlideShow module. I recently returned from a vacation in eastern Europe and want to create a slideshow of my best pictures and short movie clips. The slideshow is mostly still photography, but I also want to play a few of the clips shot in movie mode and play these clips inside the slideshow.  Is this possible in LR4's Slideshow module?

No, unfortunately that is not possible in this version.
Other people have felt the same need though: you can support this by adding your vote in the feature request forum

  • Slideshow Module Inaccessible in Lightroom 4.3

Since updating to Lightroom 4.3, I cannot access the Slideshow module. Each time I try, I receive the following message:
"An error occurred when attempting to change modules."
I have researched the problem and been offered suggestions to solve the problem. I have followed instructions to resolve the issue including:
replacing the preferences file (com.adobe.Lightroom[VERSION#].plist) and
deleting my user created slideshow templates
The problem still persists. Does anyone know of a solution beyond what’s stated here?

I am running OS 10.8.2 with LR 4.3 and I discovered this problem just the other day. I have reinstalled LR 4.3, temporarily moved all homemade slideshow presets, moved all preferences (as if they were deleted) and the problem persisted. So I tried disconnecting my second monitor (I have a 27" iMac with my second monitor being the 30" Cinema Display.) I got out of lightroom and restarted with the Cinema Display disconnected and the slideshow module worked just fine. I quit Lightroom again and reconnected my monitor and restarted the program and the slideshow module did not work. So for my situation and testing, the problem with the slideshow module exists while having the second monitor connected.

  • Can't access SLIDESHOW module.

When attempting to access the SLIDESHOW module I get the error message "an error occurred when attempting to change modules.  This occurrs when using either the main task bar at the very top of the page under "WINDOW" or the horizontal list of modules near the top right of the page.

This could be due to a corrupt Preference File. This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr does not replace the Pref. File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.
See here for where to find the Preference file for your OS: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroo m-4.html

  • Missing EXIF data when PRINTING jpeg using Print or Slideshow Module (LR2)

    Folks,
Is there a way to have LR2 include EXIF information when you create a JPG via the Print or Slideshow Module? The EXIF data is present if I export via the Library Module.
However, if I "print" a jpeg either under the Slideshow or Print Module, most of the EXIF data particularly the camera info is missing.
    Thanks for your help.
    Jg

Thanks Bob. I believe I have tried that...when you print to jpeg you have option where to save and I save to same folder and then re-synchronize folder in lightroom. Then I try to synchronized metadata between the original file and the new jpeg but the camera and other exif does not transfer over. The title, caption and copyright does work but your basic info such as camera, ISO, lens, f stop and shutter speed are missing

  • If your Lightroom 6 is crashing in the Slideshow module, check the SAMPLE RATE of your music track

After spending over 2 hours with an Adobe technician who had control over my Windows 7 machine, I've learned something that I don't think Adobe knows yet...  I upgraded from LR 5.7 to LR 6 (not CC) and began having issues when I was working in the Slideshow module.  When trying to add a music track, Lightroom would crash ("unexpectedly quit").  I couldn't for the life of me figure out why.  I turned off the GPU since a fair amount of chatter on the forum related to that, but it didn't change anything.
So I finally waited patiently for the Adobe Chat line to finally get a tech to respond...and he was exceptionally detailed and methodical in his approach to diagnosing my issues.  I could follow on my screen as he did a variety of things that indicated he understood what he was doing.  Unfortunately he got to a point where he thought (as did I) that he had found the problem/solution...which he thought was related to the bit rate.  He concluded that music with a Variable Bit Rate (VBR) as opposed to a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) was causing the problem.  Also unfortunate was that this "discovery" was near the 2-1/2 hour mark and we did not apply the scientific method to property determine if we had narrowed down to cause/effect.
Based on my further analysis, he was close, but not right on.  It isn't the BIT rate mode that is causing the crash, but rather the SAMPLE rate.  Turns out that the vast majority of songs in my iTunes library have a sample rate of 44.100 kHz--and those work just fine.  However, I have about 15 songs, mostly downloaded as free background music from the YouTube creation library, that have a sample rate of 48.000 kHz--every single one of those cause my LR6 to crash.
If you're having a problem with Lightroom crashing in the Slideshow module, check the SAMPLE RATE of your music track.

If you're on Windows, check out a free program called Audacity--it's fantastic.  With Audacity the process of converting a 48.000 kHz to 44.100 kHz is as simply as opening, changing the sample rate, and then exporting again, as an MP3.
