Slideshow on Blog page without .mac?

Hi there,
My wife wants to publish some pictures of our son online for friends and family. Since the pictres will be updated from time to time with some commentaries, I prefer to make a blog.
Unfortunately there is no option to have a slideshow on a blog page. I would like to have the iWeb-Slideshow on the blog page. Of course I could link to a page with a slideshow - but then it doesn't make sense to use a blog anymore.
Is there a way of having the iWeb-slideshow on my blog page without a .mac-subscription?

panamax:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I know an alternative but not a solution involving iWeb. The alternative is to post the photos to Twango.com. Specific viewers can be authorized to add comments to photos. The site also lets you embed slideshows or stock market ticker moving displays in pages this. Not nearly as elegant as what iWeb can do, however, but quick to put up and easy to use. I use both iWeb and Twango to get my photos out to friends and family.

  • Photo slideshow on Blog Page

    Question specifically for James Tseng...
    1. how do you get photo's to appear randomly and overlay one another on your "blog pages"
    2. And how do you get multi images to display as mini slideshows within the i-web photo template pages
Are these third party tools you've used or features readily available within i-web.
Can't help but admire your creativity. Thank you.

Hey great work so far Mr Peebly! So sorry your thread slipped past me.
So when you open up your slideshow, check out how it interacts with the browser window. Resize the browser window by dragging the lower right hand corner smaller and larger. You will see that at a certain "wideness" your slideshow starts to recenter itself in the browser window. And at a certain "narrowness" your browser starts to put horizontal scroll bars on. This point is the exact minimum width of your slideshow and will need to be the minimum width of your <iframe>. Remember that your iframe functions like a mask, so you will want your entire slideshow to show through centered in the iframe....so you must adhere to this minimum width.
The vertical width is going to depend on how many photos and in how many columns you choose to put them. You see how your photos overflow the vertical dimensions of the page? you can go back later and experiment with iPhoto Export and see if you can better fit your photos into maybe 7 columns. but then check the minimum width as above again!
So basically to get the dimensions of your slideshow, the main thing is the minimum width. For the Postcard Viewer vertical dimension is not as important, but you want to be able to see your whole slideshow. So once you have your slideshow fixed (thumbnail-wise). Drag the browser to the point where there are no scroll bars and no re-centering. The easiest way I know of to get the dimensions of something is to use the screengrab function Apple-Shift-4 and draw a box around the slideshow. The do a Get Info (Apple-i) on the screenshot file and you will see dimensions listed there under more info. These will be the dimensions to use in your <iframes> expression as well as the size of your text box to make in iWeb.
So here we are...almost there... so far your iframes expression looks like this...
    <iframe src="http://homepage.mac.com/paul.best/Slideshows" width="xxx" height="xxx" scrolling="no" border="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product!

  • How to make blog pages without the blog?

    Hello
I have to make a database system that can be searched in. I think the blog system can work but it's too limited.
    Is there an other way?
How do you make a search system (like in the blog page?)
    Thank you very much
    Fritzzz

I get EXACTALY what "SantosHaHa" posted above. (Ffox 20 Win 7 64).
Zoom doesn't help. Make things bigger or smaller, BUT THE PAGE WIDTH IS STILL CROPED!
Have had this problem for 2 years and several versions.
    NOTHING seems to work.
I wander why Ffox keeps changing versions so often, with so many new problems apearing, if Netscape worked fine 15 years ago!!!!

  • Can I create a web page without .Mac Account?

    Hi all,
Quick question: Is there any way to create a gallery for the web using iPhoto if you don't want or have a .Mac account? I have my own domain and hosting and I'd like to simply have iPhoto build the site, which I can upload to my own server.
I've found no information on this possibility and I suspect that it doesn't really fit into Apple's, uh.. non-freemarket business plan.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Hi newworld border,
You sure can! Select the photos/album and go to Share>export
In the export window there is a web page button
hit that and set your options.
there is also a plugin for iPhoto called BetterHTMLExport for iPhoto on Mac OS X
This plugin gives you more choices for your web creation.

  • Blog page gone blank

My blog page has gone blank - on iWeb and when opened in Firefox. I don't know when this happened as the entry pages are still ok. I added another blog and wondered if this had an impact? How can I get it back or recreate a new opening blog page without messing up all the entries? Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

  • Blog page question.

can i show complete posts on the blog main page, instead of an extract from the posts?
is there any way to control how many lines of a blog post will show on the main page (if i cant show complete posts)?
    thanks.
    k.

There are three pages that make up a "Blog" page.
    Blog
    Entries and
    Archive
Blog (which you can rename) is the main page where an excerpt (defaulted to the 5 most recent articles) is shown with a "read more..." link that takes you to an Entry page with the entire text of that entry.
If you would instead like for the entire blog entry to show on this Blog page, you would need to first select the Blog page (the RSS functions aren't active unless it is selected), go into the RSS tab and drag the "Excerpt Length" indicator all the way to the right. Although the indicator says "Excerpt" and there is still a link to "read more", moving that indicator all the way to the right has the effect of showing 100% of your article on the Blog page without having to click the "read more" link to go to the Entry page.
Now, I do have to admit that I don't quite understand
"i wanted to show the whole article within a single post"
    but if you want to
"let people read the whole thing without clicking "read more"."
"read more" only appears on the Blog page and the Archive page. You CAN include entire articles on the Blog page, but you can't include entire articles on the Archive page.

  • I want to put a slideshow onto a page on my website without having the pics and/or albums listed below

how can you put a slideshow on a page in iweb without putting the albums and or pictures below?

Here's one way to do it using iWeb's photo slideshow (without showing the individual photos) on this test page: Page-7.  All it takes is some code, listed on the test page, in an HTML snippet. Also for the photo page be sure there are no options selected, i.e. like downloads, reflections, subscriptions, etc.
Be sure to go to Cyclosaurus' site, a link in on the test page, to see his version of it.

  • Advise for opening an article (blog type) onto a page without creating a unique page for every artic

A section within my site holds a lot of articles. I am re-designing the layout of just that sub-page similar to a blog page. Current articles on the opening page would show the first paragraph of about 4 articles, then the [more] link would follow each. The link would open the whole article in a new window/page. (I have a lib item on the right which holds the permenant links back to the start page for the articles, or further links to archives).
Right now I have archived articles saved and linked as pdf files that open into a _blank page. It works but a lot of time and labor to convert and re-link articles as pdf.
But I have seen this on a simple blog site where the article opens up on what looks like an identical but fresh page as html. This site has hundreds of articles and I can't imagine there is a separate dedicated page holding each article...?
If anyone understands what I'm describing... Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for any help! --Jeff

The blog you saw is probably like most, dynamically driven from content stored in a server-side database.  PHP or some other server-side code is used to populate pages on the fly based on the link or search query entered by the user.  There is no feasible way to do this with static HTML pages alone.
WordPress & Blogger are 2 examples of popular blogging systems.
You can use PHP to pull content from your blog's RSS feed into your SHTML or PHP pages.  The link below describes how:

  • Can I change the format of my "comments" box on my blog page

Hi there, I'm new to iWeb and have designed my first website. Great fun and I'm very excited about it but on my "blog" page I would like to get more information from the comment senders. Is there a way I can change the comment box format? For example I would like to change "Comment as" to "Your name", "URL" to "Your occupation" and add two more fill-in fields. Is that possible?
b.t.w. Is that html, java or php? sorry if I sound a bit ignorant, as mentioned I am new to this.
    Thanks for any advice
    Tony

As you know MobileMe will be discontinued by Apple on June 30, 2012.  When MMe goes away so will your blog comments.
So if you want to continue your blogging you will have to create a blog on one of the existing blogging sites and copy and past your entries and comments into it.
However, Rage Software has created an application, iWeb to WordPress, which will convert your blog to a WordPress blog, complete with your entires and user comments.
You can then use either WordPress.org or WordPress.com to create your blog and host it on your new server.
This may be of some interest to you: Life After MobileMe.
Furthermore it is now confirmed that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Photos on front blog page

Hi. I know that in my blog, I have a choice in the inspector as to how many lines show up on the main blog page -- none or all of them. But what I can't figure out is it I can also show the photo(s) in the entry(ies) without making a person click on "read more."
If you look at sites at blogger.com, you can just see everything without ever clicking, unless of course if you want to leave a comment.
Just wondering if this functionality is somewhere and I missed it.
    Thanks a lot.

I'm a beginner and have a photo on front blog page but nothing added to either 'entries' or 'archive'. Can't I just publish a blog page plus several photo pages without having to create 'entries' and 'archive' pages? Trying to make things simple for my first Web page. (Not using .Mac)

  • How to publish blog entries without dates on Iweb?

Hi,I'm very new to Iweb and would appreciate some help.
Is there an option for me to post my blog entries without having to show the dates the blog entries are created on the site? I just want the titles to e shown but not the dates.. I deleted the dates on the template but after publishing, the dates still show..
    Thanks

Have a look here to see if it will help you...
    http://roddymckay.com/Satellite/Slideshow.html
This is done with PostCard but its the same procedure.
You might also want to look at JAlbum...
    http://jalbum.net/
Their "chameleon" template is very similar and allows you to create a link back to your site. Its freeware and they now offer you free server space too!
You don't have to use "Made on a Mac" (or any other stuff) - just delete it and add your own footer with your copyright information.

  • Blog entry without photo

Is there an easy way to add a blog entry without a photo? It defaults to the page with the photo. I deleted the photo, but then the text remains in the same place with a large blank space between the top of the page and the text. This seems cumbersome to add a simple text-only entry.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

When I delete a photo from the entry page I would like the text at the "main blog page" to use the whole width of the entry. Instead is a big white hole where the photo should have been and the text is still formatted to the right or left of the empty photo holder. Any way to get around this?

  • My main blog page can't find its entry pages

When I make iWeb blog entry pages, the main blog page can't find them. It says "Error. The file cannot be found." (even if I just use the placeholder "Blue bird day" page without changing it!) I'm dragging my image onto the placeholder image on the (Modern) Blog entry page but the main Blog pag can't find it or even the placeholder image on an unmodified new blog entry page. I am publishing to a file and ftp-ing it up to my ISP but I get the "file cannot be found" message even on my own hard drive before uploading. What's wrong?
The blog page of my site is:
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/Blog.html
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, not sure of a complete solution for you, but I have found a specific problem.
From the main blog page. . . the link it gives for New York is
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/429B84A8-BD4B-4B30-8A66-017811D F742E.html
However, in checking the directory, looks like that is labeled instead as
    http://www.christopherrauschenberg.com/Site/Blog/429B84A8-BD4B-4B30-_124C76.html
That would explain why it couldn't be found.
A little further checking or your root directory shows similar mismatches between various page index files and the folders containing data.
Have you published and uploaded portions at a time? Is ossible after changes we made that all changes were not published.
It might be best to clean out the FTP folder, republish your whole site from iWeb to a folder on your computer and re-FTP it to your site (making sure to enter correct url of your site on the publish screen as well).
(if you think I helped in any way, I'd appreciate it if you could mark my reply as either "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of the reply. Manythanx! )
    Good luck!
