Slideshow photo resolution

I am creating a slide show in FCE from a series of high resolution photos. I am having trouble with staggered movements and I am thinking part of the problem may be the ultra-high resolution of my photos. I read somewhere here that lower resolution (1080x760 or so) is more than sufficient.
Question: How can I use Photoshop to save photos in lower resolution?

One last question, and thank you. I initially created my first few sequences using 25 fps instead of 29.97. I would like to convert it. I can create a new sequence with the proper frame rate and copy and paste from the old one. The photos come out distorted, but if I "remove attributes" of some of the effects (specifically removing the "distort" video attribute) the sizing ratio gets fixed (although I need to resize the photos to fit by changing the Motion "scale" parameter downward). I see, though, the the image properties are still shown as 25 fps, even though they are now in a 29.97 fps sequence. How can I change the stills to 29.97 without having to totally recreate the sequence?

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
From previous posts, it seems that iDVD photo resolution is always less than viewing a iPhoto slideshow while in that application.
    So here is my question:
When I use the option of sharing the photos, iDVD creates a "slideshow" folder with the photos in .JPG,on the DVD. If I copy the folder to my desktop, open, then the resolution is great when viewing on my G5. So if the iDVD app and my verbatim media can create/support these images, why is the iDVD slideshow resolution so poopy?

OK, but why so lousy even when viewing the DVD using
    my G5?
An NTSC TV set has less than 640x480 pixel
    resolution
    - you computer monitor has more than 4 times this
    resolution.
You are looking at an image with less than 640x480 pixel quality displayed on a much larger pixel count monitor.
Sorry, but what you see is what you get.
DVDs produced by iDVD are best viewed on a TV set. If you are viewing them on a computer - DO NOT set the playback display to 'Full Screen' - use 'Normal' size (which will display the video in a 640x480 window).

  • Ken Burns reduces photo resolution in slideshows?

    Hey gang-
I'm running iPhoto 8 v7.0.1 on my new 24" 2.8GHz iMac. I've noticed something I hadn't detected in earlier versions of iPhoto- that is, when I'm playing a slideshow, photo quality if "Automatic Ken Burns" is enabled appears significantly lower than when Ken Burns is turned off. I've looked closely at a few photos that contain text and lines that can be pretty objectively judged, and photos definitely appear to be in a lower resolution and rather fuzzy if Ken Burns is enabled.
Turn Ken Burns off and play the same slideshow, and the photos appear sharp and crisp? Is this a known issue? Any way to adjust this? Thanks!
    Dave

I just added some text with Photoshop to a photo and ran it thru the auto KB effect slideshow and didn't see any degradation of the image/text. What size is your file? If it has small pixel dimensions then it might be fuzzy when used in the KB effect as it would be enlarged.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photo resolution in iDVD

I am trying to create a DVD using a mixture of video clips and photos in slideshows and when I preview the completed DVD, the video resolution is fine but the slideshow photos are blurred and low resolution. When I view the same photos in iPhoto, they are brilliantly crisp. Any ideas?

It has to do with mpeg2 compression which is about a third of a megapixel. However, both these apps tend to help:

  • Slideshow photo size in "My Album" slideshow

I recently created several albums in "My Albums" (love the look!), but I am puzzled at how small the photos are when I view them as a slideshow. They are approx. 1 3/4" x 1 1/2", compared to the slideshow in "My Gallery" where the photos about fill the screen. (And there those awful annoying shadows below each photo making my subjects looking like they are deformed with extra legs etc). Is there something that I am doing wrong? Did I miss something when I was setting up the pages/albums to make the slideshow photos different sizes? Right now the photos that appear in the album covers are even larger than those in the slideshow.

    Hi OT,
Thank you for your input. Before I read your reply last night, I went through some of your old postings and did find a couple resolutions. You replied to a post from snipa (Norway), Aug. 22, 08, subject: "Comments on web sits (sic) photo" - then Mermaid 1632 asked a similar question - she wrote Oct 14th. You replied telling Snipa and mermaid on how to add the comment button to a website. In that reply you showed a picture of the photo/slideshow inspector options. So I went to that setting in my iWeb And there I found that the setting for large photo in slideshow was not ticked. It also gave me an option to unclick that awful shadow option. So I went to one of my pages and did the clicking and unclicking. I thought that would solve my problem. The shadow option worked fine, but the option for large photo, even though it did enlarge the photo somewhat, it still was not the full screen size that it used to be. It is now approx. 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 - whereas last night when I wrote it was only 2 1/2 x 1 3/4.
You asked about my browser - I use Safari 3.2.1, and Firefox 3.0.5. I cleared the cache in both - that did not make a difference. I have a very old version of IE - so that would not even load the Gallery pages, so no point in even considering that browser. I had a friend with a PC and IE to check and she said that the photos in slideshow (that I had not changed) were still very small.
Let's say that I settle for the 4 x 3 inch photos in slideshow it looks like that I am going to have to edit each photo page and make those changes one at a time. What do you think? Is there any way I can make the same changes on all the photo pages in one editing, rather than doing one at a time?
I appreciate your help. That old posting gave me two great suggestions!

  • Photo resolution on iweb

Does anyone know how to improve the photo resolution on iweb? Can i upload pics from iphoto to iweb with original file size?

Does anyone know how to improve the photo resolution
on iweb? Can i upload pics from iphoto to iweb with
    original file size?
Yes, you can. Not sure why you would want to do this. Web images tend to have to balance image quality with download speed. But sure, you can have your original photo used in iWeb. Just drag it from iPhoto directly into iWeb. Then open up the Inspector and click on the Rulers tab. The click "Use original size". That will be your original photo.
If you make any other changes to your photo like shrinking it down to a little square or rotating it or putting a frame around it, then iWeb will convert your photo to a PNG file and subsequently recompress the image for the PNG file. That will again lower your resolution.

  • Lumia 820 Photo Resolution Problem

    Hi,
Can anyone help me solve why i cannot change the photo resolution on my Lumia 820?
When i check them on a PC they always come out at either 800x600 on 4:3 ratio or 800x450 on 16:9 ratio.
It's driving me mad there is no option in the photo settings or anywhere else in the phone to change this.
I read on another post that it can be related to skydrive uploading, although I have skydrive disabled and this problem still persists.
    Please Help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

How did you download the photos to your pc? Photos uploaded to Skydrive are reduced in resolution by default unless you change the setting to Best Quality which requires wifi. To change this, goto Settings>Applications>photos+camera>Skydrive>Photos> Best quality
Other option to download high res is to connect phone to pc using USB.

  • Nokia Lumia 820 change photo resolution

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me why can't I change the resolution in the photo camera? If I choose video I can select resolution, but on photo I cannot, there is no option. This is not ok, my phone took the last photos both in landscape and portrait at 1280x720 / 720x1280 resolution. If it has 8mpx why can't I benefit from this res?? who from Nokia had this brilliant idea of taking out the option to select the photo resolution???

I presume you are uploading your photos to Skydrive. The phone automatically reduces the resolution before photos are uploaded. To dwnload your photos at full resolution you need to either connect to pc via usb or change the auto upload settings as follows. Goto settings>backup>photos>best quality (needs wifi)

  • How do I get slideshow photos right-side-up?

I rotate individual photos to get them right-side-up; but when I start a slideshow, the photos revert to appearing sideways. Can someone please help me figure out how to get the slideshow photos right-side-up? Thanks very much.

If you perform a backup to icloud, the camera roll photos are included (if that setting was turned on) but not any other photos.  (Go to Settings>icloud>Storage&Backup>Manage Storage, tap your device name then be sure that camera roll is turned on in Backup Options.
Users should always sync photos to a computer to archiving.  icloud is not totally reliable, depending on how the user has the settings.
If you are converned about your laptop breaking down, remember that performing regular backups is as important as carrying a spare tire in your car.

  • Photo resolution & movies?!

So, I'm confused. I can create a very nice page, but there are a couple things that I can't figure out:
    1. Photo resolution. My photos seem to automatically downsample (the large version) to 800x600. That's great if I want them to, but what if I don't?!
-related: is it possible to link a file? ie "add link to download"?
    2. Movies cannot be put on a photo grid. That *****. I take pictures and movies with my digital camera, and I want to show both in a gallery.
    3. It's unclear to me how updating works. That is, if I publish to a folder, and I update a page or add a new one, do I have to do everything again? ie publish to folder and upload the entire thing? That seems like quite a waste of bandwidth!

  • Photo resolution on new computer

I have noticed that the photo resolution on my new system is much smaller than on my old G4 iBook. The original size of the photos was in 1-2 meg size with great resolution. Now they are 40-50K. When I export them to a digital photo frame they are really poor. What have I done wrong?

    Yes
Quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library to the desktop (after completing everything successfully you will delete this library) and connect the two computers (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library form the pictures folder form the old machine to the same place in the new machine (a single drag - do not move pieces of the library) and launch iPhoto on the new machine - you should be fine - and once you are trash the bad iPhoto library from the desktop

  • Slideshow Photos Displaying Too Small?

I have just created my third site in iWeb and did it identically to my first two. They are very basic and each has a photo page where you can see photos, enlarge them and view a slideshow. Problem is that this third site is bringing up the enlarged photos and slideshow photos much smaller than the other two sites. As stated I did everything the exact same. Any ideas on why my third site is not behaving correctly.
Here are the three sites. #3 is the issue. Thanks for any help!

I think iPhoto is storing or making a 360*240 Thumnail or iPod pic to go with the original & that's what is getting uploaded.
I don't know how it works, but if you could get the big pic say in another APP & save it, send that, I think it would work, like say GraphicConverter...

  • Slideshow photo order problem

How do I fix the problem with slideshow photo order?

What problem with slideshow photo order?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
