Slideshow picture orientation problem

I found some very old posts on apparently related problems, but nothing recent. It is June 3, 2012. My AppleTV firmware is current. My iPad (3) OS is up to date. As best I can tell, everything is up to date.
When I play a slideshow on my iPad, it plays perfectly.
When I play the same slideshow using AppleTV, pictures which should be displayed 'vertically' are displayed rotated 90 degrees, i.e., horizontally.
I'm not willing to edit my pictures to correct this. There are simply too many, plus, they display correctly everywhere except in an AppleTV slideshow and in the wonderful windows picture viewer which Microsoft doesn't seem inclined to ever fix. They display correctly using AppleTV 'manually'. The slideshow feature is the only place I see a problem.
So it seems clear to me that there is a software issue associated with running a slideshow using AppleTV. The problem could be in the iPad. The problem could be in the AppleTV. Perhaps, if one really stretches, the problem could be in my wireless network. The only thing that is certain is that there is a problem. Please help!

Create a new test library and import a few of the problem files into it to see if they will display properly. If they do then it's a problem with the current library. If they don't then you'll need to see if it's system wide or limited to your account. To do that log into another account, create a test library and try there. If you don't have a second account it's a good thing to have because it's a great troubleshooting tool. Just create a non-admin test account.
If it works in the second account your primary account is causing it. It could be some other preference file other than iPhoto's that is the culprit. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.
If the problem persists in both accounts a reinstall of iPhoto may be warranted. If it gets to that point you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before you install iPhoto from the disk it came on.

  • Picture Orientation problem with Konica Minolta Dynax 7D in iPhoto'08

    Hello,
as far as I know the Dynax 7D has a bug concerning saving the picture orientation correctly in the EXIF tags. OK, that is definitly no Apple issue. But if I want to import pictures from the camera, in +the preview+ of the iPhoto import the portrait pictures are displayed in +correct orientation+. If I do the import, afterwards the portrait pictures are +in landscape mode again+, so I have to turn them manually. So the software is able to cope with portrait pictures, but chooses not to apply this...
This is the point I would like to have fixed or at least to have a automatic workaround. Any suggestions are welcome. Did anybody solved that problem already?
Will there be a fix for that behaviour in iPhoto'08?
    Best wishes

  • IPhone to image capture picture orientation problem.

I am having a problem with my iPhone 3G (2.2.1) and pictures. I've seen several other topics about this but none of them address or fix the problem for me (since most of them are from people using other applications like Picasa or iPhoto). Opening up every picture in an image editor and rotating it before syncing back to my iphone is NOT a solution. It's a bandaid.
    Here is the problem.
Take a picture with iPhone. Connect to Mac. Image Capture app launches and I "Download All" to Pictures folder in Home folder. Images are deleted from the iPhone and moved into the Pictures folder. Opening an image from the Pictures folder opens them in the correct orientation in Preview.
iTunes is set to import all pictures from the Pictures folder. Sync iPhone. Images are uploaded to the photo library and all of them are rotated 90 degrees CCW. Turning the phone causes the images to rotate automatically to retain "correct orientation" which is still wrong.
Uploading an image from the phone (to Facebook for example) from the Photo Library results in a rotated image on the server.
None of the suggestions I've seen so far are a "solution". I don't want to open every image I take in iPhoto and rotate it before I sync it back to my Photo Library.
My question is how do I fix this, or prevent it from happening? Alternatively, is this a recognized bug that Apple intends to fix?

This is a useful method to minimize the problem, but it is still not a solution. It is unacceptable that I should have to resort to an extra step using a third party application to get my pictures onto my device, especially considering this problem didn't previously exist.
I am using all Apple tools (iPhone, iMac, image capture, iTunes) because I want to maintain the integrity of the process.
I know this problem is related to EXIF information in the image resulting in an unwanted rotation. IF I open an image in another program, I can clearly see that the image dimensions are listed at 1200x1600 (portrait). Either image capture or iTunes is modifying or removing these values before the image is optimized and added to the Photo Library on the phone, resulting in an orientation mismatch.
I guess I'm going to have to call Apple.

  • IPhoto MobileMe uploaded picture orientation problem

Hi, I scanned a number of old photos into iPhoto and moved the photos to upright orientations (portrait and landscape). I then organized them under a single event and published to the MobileMe Gallery. Once uploaded, however, the orientations of some of the photos are all messed up, unlike the ones displayed on iPhoto. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    Then re-publish the gallery.

  • How to Correctly Reflect Photostream Picture Orientations when Modified in iPhoto Libraries?

Photos imported to iPhoto that are later edited to adjust orientiation (perform rotations) are not correctly updated in iCloud Photostreams.  This is exceedingly anoying if automatic uploading to Photostreams is being used because all pictures including incorrectly oriented pictures will be immediately uploaded.  Manual removal of incorrectly oriented pictures from Photostreams and manual upload after editing is required to fix the problem.
    1.  With Photostreams enabled and automatic in iPhoto, import photos from any source device or camera.
    2.  After imported and automatically uploaded to a Photostream, go to the stream and browse through pictures.
    3.  When a picture is incorrectly oriented, try to edit and note instructed to edit in Library.
    4.  Correct the orientation using rotate in Library.
    5.  Note that the incorrectly oriented picture remains in the Photostream.
    6.  Depending on upload setttings, a new picture with the correct orientation may be uploaded to the Photostream in addition to the unwanted, incorrectly oriented photo.
To work around this bug, you must browse through the entire Photostream, remove all mis-oriented photos, correctly rotate them in the iPhoto Library, then manually upload them back to the photostream.
Correct behavior would be to syncronize any photo edits with the photostream once they are performed so that pictures always look the same in the Library and Photostream.  Similar orientation problems exist if automatic uploading of photos from iOS is enabled.

    Your opinion
Apple's appears to be that the correct behavior is that there is no connection between the PS photo and its source - once uploaded to PS it is not affected by any changes (orentiation or otherwise) made to the soiurce
you can make your suggested change to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • Slideshow crop photos problem when i close the thumbnail botton

In the slideshow i use thumbnail photo "turned on" to change the pictures (is it the only way to do it?)  and manage them with crop function but when i later close thumbnail (i don't want visible) photos resize. Any suggestion ?

I have not a link yet, i'm preparing the graphic layout at the time. I bypassed the problem importing in muse the right photos size without use crop. Maybe i should see better edit photo functions tutorials. I'm new with Muse.

  • Printing orientation problems cs5

I have a page setup in cs5 as a3 landscape but no matter what i do it always prints out in a rotated view on a3 paper and twists the image so it's cut off. I've tried everything.... gone through every print dialog option in cs4 and cs5 and compared and everything is the same. At present i'm having to make pdfs and print with that so it's a bit time intensive... any ideas out there?

    Hi!
    Same orientation problem.
But I´m on MacOSX 10.6, InDesign CS5 and the printer is a Xerox DC240/250 with Fiery RIP.
We have got 3 different computers (one of them is on 10.5 with CS5), all have the same problem when printing from InDesign CS5.
Yes, it works to print a PDF, but this is not very effective because we print lots of work with the customer sitting in, and there is oftenly numerous of InDesign files to print at the time. Even if InDesign CS5 has become a monster app when it comes to generate PDFs quick, it´s an extra step then the customer is used to.
I´ve gone through all the steps in this page: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/499/cpsid_49998.html when it comes to try different apps, restarting, change prefs, and so on. Also tried from all the computers with different accounts.
When you create a portrait A5 or A4 there is no problem what so ever. But if it´s landscape the printer outputs the artwork rotated 90° as if the paper where in the other direction.
The same thing also occurs when generating a PS-file.
Note that CS4 outputs the file correct, with the same driver to the same printer, from the same setup. This would prove that the problem is not with the PPD-file, rather the InDesign CS5. We also tried to output from Photoshop CS5 with the same driver, this works flawlessly.
(Sorry for my bad english, not my main language)
Please, I would be grateful for any input in this case.
    Best regards
    Henrik

  • Slideshow resize photos problem

    Hi there,
Yesterday I did a wonderful slideshow ( basic) in Muse with 3 variants of each of the used motives.
Today, I worked on the slideshow, and now - the pics appear in different sizes although they have the same pix-size.
What is a stake here - anybody know?

  • Picture messaging problems for EnV 3

In the past few days, I have been having picture messaging problems. When a Non-Verizon person sends me a picture, it says connecting (as it should) but just continues to say connecting. I never receive the picture. It just says failed if I let it continue to connect. When I receive a picture message from a Verizon person, it also says connecting and I allow it to go until it stops. It never shows a loading bar like it used to but the "connecting" screen will eventually disappear and I can view the picture. It works but, its very slow and it doesn't show the loading bar like it used to.
I also have problems sending picture messages. Again, the connecting screen comes up when sending a picture but no loading bar. I usually let it go for 30 seconds and I'll end up cancelling it. BUT, a friend of mine did end up receiving the picture even though it never said message sent on my phone.
Any help with these problems? I haven't done anything different than I used to and I have had the phone for almost a year and a half now. Everything has been fine until now.

Yay!! It's so nice when it's a simple fix!
You can do the *228 reset every month or so just for maintenance and to keep your phone updated.

  • Messages app: Orientation problems

I have a new iPhone 6+ 128Gb and have been using it for a week.
I never restore from backup with a new phone so I upgraded iOS, reseted it to factory defaults and started from scratch. After installing all my apps again and setting the phone up I have noticed that the Messages app has an orientation problem. It just happens when using the NEW MESSAGE button:
    1. Hold your iPhone in portrait orientation and open the Messages app. Be sure to check that the orientation lock is not enabled on control center.
    2. Tap the NEW MESSAGE button
    3. When the new message screen shows rotate the iPhone to landscape mode.
The iPhone does not rotate the screen. The screen continues locked on portrait.
This DOES NOT happen when I am answering to an already started Messages conversation. In this case the iPhone behaves as expected and the screen rotates normally.
This DOES NOT happen when using other apps.
This DOES NOT happen on other iOS 8 devices I have (iPhone 5, iPad 2).
The problem has been confirmed by other users on the macrumors forum. The thread can be found here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=20741302
I have already reported the bug to Apple. I encourage everybody that is having this issue to report it to Apple using these forms:
    https://bugreport.apple.com/
    and
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

    HI,
As far as we can tell this issue is related to problems at the server end.
It does not seem to be all server though with the Mac version of Messages running behind iOS devices.
If someone is in a conversation using an iPhone and then gets home and turns On a Mac then the sync process start in Messages (if opened)
This plays out like a speeded up chat.
If the contact is still sending messages then these get sent in real time and appear on the Mac as they occur and the Messages being synced do not move above the "new" message.  (they get all mixed app)
There seems to be no way to get the iMessage server to "Instantly" sync the older iMessages.
After that is seems that random Messages will miss getting to one device if you have say an iPhone and iPad (or  iPod Touch) but can then turn up days later.  There seems to be no identifiable cause for this.
So far I have seen one thread that reports that Messages over 100 characters have been known to lose the last word or two from the iMessage when it is delivered.

  • IPad Mini retina screen orientation problem still not solved?!

I have also been having the screen orientation problem on my iPad Mini retina. I cannot find out what the problem is or how to solve it. The switch does not help it and neither does changing the settings.  Nor does rebooting. Also, the volume on the retina is definitely lower than the ordinal iPad Mini. If I had known this I would've kept the original. I am on IOS 7.1.2.

If you have Reset it, Restored it from Backup and Restored it as new and none of these helped then you will need to get it serviced.

    Thx.

        @jmclarke,
I also like sharing my picture with friends and family on Facebook so I understand how important this is for you.
Have the pictures always uploaded to Facebook this way or did it just start happening? Does it happen with ever picture you upload or just certain ones?

  • Slideshow and orientation of photos

I am about to create a DVD with a slideshow of some of my pictures. I am using PSE and PRE both in version 8. Most is working fine except that some (not all) of my photos taken i portrait view are rotated 90 degrees to much. I myself are really not doing anything with this, just using the auto-rotate functionality in my two camera's when the picture is taken (let the pictures be tagged). All pictures are shown fine in the organiser, all ar shown fine when they are displayed as a slideshow on screen on my PC - BUT if I am trying to create a videosequence out of them (by using the create-functionality), some of the autorotated portrait pictures are rotated once again, but not all! (Probably due to two different cameras)
Have found one clue for earlier version: Rotate to and from once - to no avail
    Any other tip out there?
Have tried to create a slideshow/videosequence directrly in PRE8, then I get a different problem as the pictures are not scaled down to the screen size...

Multiple people have reported problems with Portriat Mode photos which have an Orientation Indicator when using the PSE to PRE workflow for slideshows with version 8.  Here are some comments and suggestions based on previous experiences that I have seen in forums and emails.
Have found one clue for earlier version: Rotate to and from once - to no avail
    Any other tip out there?
1- APPROACH 1 -- The rotate approach has worked for other people when
-- that rotate (to and from)is done in the Organzer thumbnail area BEFORE the photo is placed in the Slide Show Editor (of PSE) and
-- when the Organizer Preference of "Rotate JPEGs using Orientation Metadata" is NOT checked
When using this approach you can multiple select the thumbnails of the photos to be rotated.
2 - there may be other possibilies of the timing for doing the rotate that will work.
What I suggest is that you post when you did the rotate and whether it was done in the Photoshop Elements Editor, Premiere Elements or Organizer workspace.
3- FYI - You say that you are unsure why some portrait photos have this problem and other photos do not. If both cameras were set for using an Orientation indicator, then a possible explanation is that SOME of your photos had been edited by the Photoshop Elements editor and others had not. The photos processed by the Photoshop Elements editor are likely to look OK in Priemere Elements. (note: not sure if this is 100% but I am not aware of specific types of exceptions).
3 - APPROACH 2 -- for the slide show that you have already built, you can try the approach of initiating an Edit in Photoshop Elements for the individual photos which have this problem.
For individual problematic photo from within either the Slide Show Editor or from within Premere Elements, select that photo and choose the option to edit within the Photoshop Elements editor, adjust as desired and save.
Note that after your slideshow has been transferred and is in Premiere Elements (timeline and scencline), changes must be made using Premiere Elements.  (you can't bring individual changes over from the slide show editor that you used from Photoshop Elements in to Premiere Elements).

  • Flash image viewer, picture scale problem in CS3

Please someone help me. I have built a website 3 years ago, and I still have this problem. In CS3 I added a flash image viewer (slideshow.swf) as a slideshow to show gardens we have made. When you first visit the site and look at the pictures (wich are bigger than the viewer window because of picture quality issues) they don`t shrink to fit into the viewer window, you only end up seeing a fraction of them. But when they download and you go back to see them again a second later, they become the right size. It also swiches to the right size when the loop play gets back to the first pic again.
In the flash element properties I tried the different scale settings, and looked at other settings too but I couldn`t make it work.
I think making the viewer window as large as the pictures, would look odd. Maybe buying on other slideshow program to insert into dreamweaver would work.
If you would like to see the site its: tsugagardens.com , than look in the photo gallery and after the pics download go back with the back button and see the difference in the pics.
    Thank you for your efforts,

  • Floating captions under slideshow pictures

I have a slideshow where the pictures are of varying heights. I would like the caption to always appear just below the picture. Currently this is a problem because the long pictures overlap the caption and the short pictures have a large gap between the bottom of the picture and caption. How can I make a floating caption that stays just below the picture no matter how tall or short the picture is?

    Hi Scott,
I will recommend that you use a composition widget instead where you will be able to align captions for individual images below them.
