Slideshow problems IPhoto 8

This is for the record...and if anyone has answers to my problems it will be appreciated. So here goes...
Created 1st slideshow with a playlist of 5 tracks customised to each event successfully and sent to iDVD to burn without any problems. It was 20mins duration with 350 photo's.
2nd slide show 500+ photo's & 45mins long with 15 tracks. Encountered problems when sent to iDVD one event coordinated with a 3min track went so fast that all the music went out of sync'. There were 66 photos in this section and had made the transitions very fast and each frame 1sec long to fit in with the bouncy music. Sent to IDVD as before but would not appear in this site but eventually found it in Movies in Applications. The IDVD went dead on me and had difficulty getting it back but did with the help of my very patient husband and lots of bad language!!
As there was just this one area holding things up I reduced the frames in this section and made the transition times longer and photo time mostly 3 secs. I then sent the slideshow to Quicktime Desktop where I checked the play back and everything was fine and in sync'. Opened IDVD and dropped the Desktop movie into the usual zones and successfully burned the slideshow.
There does seem to be a lot of probs with this slideshow lark that i am thinking of investing in a Fotomagico3 anyone got any info on this software?? Can't be any worse than Iphoto/IDVD!!!!
Thanks

The problem here is that iPhoto 08 has very limited export options. Later versions have better ones. However, I smiled when I read
Mac designs these beautiful computers...they look so good and then are so stingy with the software. Why is that???
Which is amusing given that you were contemplating spending more than the cost of the entire iLife suite to replace one facet of one of the apps.
The truth is that these apps, while very capable, are aimed at folks who want to do simple things. Divide the cost of the iLife suite by the number of apps, and you can see that iPhoto is a $16 application. For that you do get a lot but you don't get everything. And as your use grows and your demands get higher you can easily outgrow them.

  • Problems with slideshows in iPhoto version 9.6

How can I make slideshows in iPhoto without music? Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow. The music (not from my own library) is very loud and irritating. Other settings that I have made, for example transitions and display- time per photo, also change when the slideshow starts. It seems that the settings (Themes, Music and Settings) are not saved, and the computer make its own choice.
    I use iMac 2,9 GHz Intel Core i5 - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB - OS 10 Yosemite version 10.10.1.
    iTunes is version 9.6 (910.29).
I have recently updated my software.
    Any answer to my problems?
    Thank you.

Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow.
Did you press the "Choose" button, after you disabled the checkmark for music? Otherwise it will still be enabled.

  • Imported slideshows from iPhoto with problems

I am new to Aperture, but I am trying it out because of a bug causing problems with slideshows in iPhoto. I imported the the library with albums and slideshows from iPhoto. When trying to view slide shows in Aperture, a lot of the photos do not focus/show very low resolution. I have searched the settings and checked the originals' metadata without finding any obvious explanations. Does anyone else have experience with this. Are my settings wrong, or could it be problems carried over from iPhoto?

It seems edited photos from iPhoto library does not change the original photos where they were imported from.
That's correct. iPhoto will never change the Original photo.
iPhoto is a Digital Asset Manager and treats your original file like a film shooter treated the negative. It preserves it at all costs. So, every operation - editing, exporting etc - are carried out on a copy of the original file.
As Apearl suggests, you may be using more disk space than you need: Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • IPhoto 11 slideshow problems

Hello,  I am trying to make a slideshow on iPhoto 11.  When I select the large icon (middle bottom) the comp. goes to full screen and displays the first photo immediately.  After pressing esc. the "Themes" button does nothing.  I have opened iPhoto with the opt./command keys down, but do not recognize the options given from other posts here or previous experience.  What should I do to gain the ability to use this function as intended?

The Scrapbook Theme is one of the compuited themes, that is very rigid and you do not hae much control. Try to only exchange pictures to other pictures of exactly the same size.
If you want more control, use the basic themes "Ken Burns" or "Classic". There you can set individual transitions.

  • Slideshow in iphoto, once shared send to idvd, becomes lower quality

    Hello,
I made a slideshow in iphoto 8.1.2 that looks great, using the "snapshot" theme. I need to be able to play this in a regular dvd player attached to a tv. I hit share > send to idvd.
In idvd 7.0.4, I set up my menu page (used "shelves" theme), set my show to loop and then previewed everything, and the resolution looks like crap compared to the original slideshow from iphoto. I haven't even put it on a dvd yet, because I figure if the resolution looks worse in idvd preview than in iphoto preview, I need to resolve that before burning.
Within idvd, my project preferences are set to ntsc, professional quality encoding, and single layer dvd type. I just noticed now my preferred dvd burning speed is set to maximum possible, so maybe that's the problem. But before I try again, is there anything else I should do differently to maintain the original image quality from iphoto?
My knowledge level of both macs and ilife is very basic, so please keep that in mind with any replies.
    Thanks so much,
    Tony

    Hi Zeravla
Welcome to Apple Discussions. Sorry to hear about the loss in resolution when working with slide shows within iDvd. You're not the first member on this forum to experience this. It's the nature of the beast (sorry to say) when working with Standard Definition and then burning to Dvd-R. iDVD makes DVDS, which are by definition "standard definition" / SD. Keeping this in mind, here are a few suggestions on the following threads /discussions already covered within this forum:

  • Can't make a slideshow with iPhoto. Won't play and export Slideshow is gray

I'm trying to export an album to a slideshow in iPhoto '09 and cannot. Whenever I select the "Slideshow" option, it turns gray like in a click and hold, but stays gray and the the box never flips over to Slideshow.
Also, when I click the slideshow button at the bottom of an event or album, it just sits there. The program doesn't freeze, but it doesn't start a slideshow. Under the "File" menu, "Close Window" is my only selectable option. When I select it, the screen fades to black, comes back, and then closes the program.
Has anyone else come across this problem and (preferably) come across a solution?
    Thanks!

First try the easy fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.

  • Missing Slideshow in iPhoto

I created a slideshow.  It appears on the sidebar under "Slideshows".  I now wish to upload that slideshow to You Tube.  Dumb bunny that I am, I cannot locate the file to upload this slideshow to You Tube.  I simply cannot find it, even though I have created it and it shows in the sidebar.  When I go to You Tube and go to Upload, I get the standard file selection and I cannot find the Slideshow.  I can find "iPhoto Slideshows" and it has an arrow, indicating more files, but that section remains.  So why does the list of all my slideshows not appear?  Nothing - all blank.  I'ver tried and tried again, but no luck.
How do I find my slideshow so I can up load it??  Where is it?  I am new to Macs and with Windows, I wodl simple go to the Windows Explorer, click on Sideshows and find it with no problem!

Do you mean the Play button?
There are two ways to create a slideshow in iPhoto.
Pressing the Play button will make a quick and dirty slideshow of whatever you're looking at - this album, event, whatever. However this method has no built-in export option.
To create a Slideshow for export click on the '+' button lower left and select SlideshowThis will bring the Slideshow Toolbar to the fore and you can make all the decisions and choices you prefer for the show. Then, click on the Export button on the Slideshow Toolbar will give you the much enhanced export options in iPhoto 09.

  • Converting slideshow from iphoto with itune playlist as background music

I have created a slideshow in iphoto with an itune playlist as the background music and when I convert it throught quicktime into a movie it only plays the first song from the playlist. All photos look good in the slide. This problem has started since I upgraded to quicktime 7.4. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have created slideshows with music before and converted them through quicktime with no trouble. I can't figure this one out?? Thank you

    David,
I am sorry! I thought I was giving a solved to both of you. I was just playing around with fotomagico tonight. I love it...for $49. I know I have alot of posts and should be familiar with the solved thing. But most of my posts involve when I first started with Macs three years ago. I should have been more carefull. Non-the-less you were considerate enough to take your time out to help me. Much appreciated!
Some people on this FCP site are very critical of newbies often criticizing rather than helping. I rarely post here because of that.
I am a old time photographer (still have my darkroon stuff) who wants to get into a bit more of the film thing. Hence FCP. But what a learning curve! Mind you it is easier than Photoshop! (Now that's a learning curve coming from a film/darkroom guy).
    Thanks again.

  • H.264 slideshow from iPhoto looks terrible in QT X

What is going on here? I just exported a slideshow from iPhoto '09 as 1280x720 h.264. Quen I play this with quicklook or with QT X it looks terrible. Colors are washed out and desaturated.
However, if I view it in QT 7 Pro on the same machine, the movie looks fine. Colors are bold and nice.
This file is going to play on another mac (not SL), how will it look there? Can anyone explain why this occurs?
    Thanks,
    -Ed

Yeah, with 400 slides, even without the video and music, you're going to have a large file any way you look at it. However, large isn't a BAD thing when you're looking at creating something for DVD since large usually = high quality = good for that purpose.
Let's ignore the final output for now and always export as small ( or medium, just enough to see that your timing is right) for your tests. Figure out between the Keynote presentation and the QuickTime movie what appears to be going on. Do you hear audio then a loooong pause before the next transition? Are your movies not displaying like you want them to? Both of these are caused by the differences between the way Keynote and QuickTime deals with media. In Keynote, if you want a movie clip to play for 4 seconds, you have to put in a 4 second delay for it. When you export this to QuickTime, QuickTime puts in the video PLUS adds the 4 second delay so that you'll have pauses where it looked like Keynote was synched better.
Make a copy of your presentation and, if you have any delays, remove all of them and re-export to see if that solves a few of your problems.

  • Slideshow From iPhoto

I built a slideshow in iPhoto, which I then shared and ATV does see it and play it. The problem I am having is that ATV plays the first song in the custom playlist, but just repeats that song instead of playing the next song in the playlist. When watching the slideshow in iPhoto, it plays the songs in the playlist. Anyone know how to get the ATV to play all the songs in the playlist?

  • HT4718 After burning a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD, it will not play on my DVD player OS X 10.9.4

iMac 27' OS X 10.9.4 I burned a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD and now it will not play back on anything. The player said Unknown disc. What can i do?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera)  or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL).

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and Slideshow in iPhoto stopped working (stays on first slide; will not advance)

Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and Slideshow in iPhoto stopped working (stays on first slide; will not advance)

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database followed by Option #1 to reapair permissions if #4 doesn't help.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If still not working log into another user account on your Mac and try a slideshow from there.  If it works there then the problem is limited to your account. If it fails there it's system wide and may require a reinstall of iPhoto or the system.

  • Slideshows crash iPhoto

    Hello,
    FYI, I'm using iPhoto 5.0.4 (263) and OSX 10.4.3.
Somehow part of my iPhoto database has gotten corrupted. What I mean by this is that I can still use all of my albums and my pictures are still there, but a few of the slideshows crash iPhoto. If I select one in the source selection list (left pane), I get the pinwheel [of death] for less than half a second and then an abrupt iPhoto death. I don't think any of the photos that were in the slideshow still exist in the library, which is why I'm trying to delete the slideshows.
I know that 99.999% of the people really SHOULD NOT do this, but just for fun, I backed up a copy of my iPhoto library, opened ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/AlbumData.xml in Property List Editor.app (which really needs to be threaded better IMHO -- expanding a list of 5000+ items takes forever and has no progress bar), and removed the Albums under "List of Albums" which had an "Album Type" of "Slideshow". Opening iPhoto back up, the slideshows were still there and I still had the same problem. So I restored the original iPhoto Library (including the AlbumData.xml file).
Any recommendations on how to remove these corrupt Slideshows (which are really only taking up screen real-estate, if anything)?
    Thanks!
    - todd

    Hi toadgee
I am not sure if this will help but it wouldn't hurt. Try a rebuild of the library.
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.
iPhoto 4 or later: Rebuilding the iPhoto Library
let me know how it turns out.

  • Sending Slideshows from iPhoto

I've created a slideshow (with music) in iPhoto (08) and would like to share this with my family. How do I do this? I tried uploading to youtube.com a while back but the quality was horrible! Is there a better way to share my slideshows from iphoto (with music) and/or video with people? (both mac users and pc users)
I am sure it can be done - I see people's videos and photo slideshows with music all the time on their blogs. I just don't know how to do it. I hope someone can help or point me in the right direction.

    Patti:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. See my response in Q: how to save book as slideshow? for ways to save the slideshow as a QT movie and one way to create an iDVD slideshow from it. As far as the iDVD is concerned for your slideshow you would add your QT movie file to an iDVD project and burn to disk. If you don't use the KB effect in the movie you can create the slideshow in iDVD with the same music and get a higher quality image in the final product that with adding a QT movie. But that's just my opinion.
To get it to the web you would have to use QT Pro or a 3rd party application to reduce the file size before adding to a Web Gallery in iPhoto or an iWeb site. You can learn about the best way to go about that over in the iWeb forum. Some top notch Quicktime gurus over there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
