Slideshow PSE7 to PRE7

I created a slideshow of 211 photos,  edited in PSE7 then opened in the slideshow creator where I added  transitions, text, music.  It was saved to my PSE7 catalogue. ( I now notice it has an extension of . pssl. and do not see it saved any other place on my computer)   I learned in making a previous slide show in PSE7, that you cannot make a dvd in PSE7 so for this project I purchased PRE7 to make it easy.   I have worked the last two nights trying to to output my slide show to PRE7 but when I try to open it in the slideshow sceneline it says the file is not supported.  I then tried outputting the slideshow  as a .wmv and then tried opening that in the PRE7 timeline to do more editing.  No go, it only shows the first slide.  I have read both the help guides to these products and have tried just about everything I can think of to get that slideshow into PRE7 so I can add a few more touches and then make the dvd.  I even tried outputting the slideshow as pdf,  that did not work either.  I tried taking off the music, thinking maybe that was what was not being supported in PRE7, but it made no difference,  it must be the extension of pssl.  But,  In the slideshow creator in PSE7 I do not see any choice to save it any other way.  Is it the amount of slides?  Help this is a slideshow of my neice's  wedding going over 1,000 photos, that I have worked on for over 8 months and would like to get it to her before her first anniversary.
Thanks for any help

I have never heard of an output file with a file extension of pssl in Photoshop Elements 7 (or other version) slideshow editor. Maybe later you could take the time to describe just how you generated this file. But for now I would like to offer some guidelines for getting your Photoshop Elements 7 slideshows successfully burn to DVD-VIDEO in Premiere Elements 7. I am assuming that you will producting a standard DVD-VIDEO NTSC DV Standard 4:3.
After you create your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 7, go to the top of the interface, select Output, and then select "Send to Premiere Elements". That is the non wmv route to Premiere Elements that will put your slideshow on the Premiere Elements Timeline as a whole video. The perk to this route is that once you get your slideshow there you can break it apart for further edits by right clicking the video on the Timeline and selecting "Break Apart Slideshow". Or, you could leave it as is and proceed to Create Menus and finally Share/Disc/Disc.
A less preferred route for the above is through the wmv output. In this case, after you create your slideshow in Photoshop Element 7, go to the top of the interface, select Output, and then select Save As File Movie (wmv). By time you get finished OKing all the save dialog boxes, you will end up with:
a. your slideshow saved to the hard drive location that you designated
b. a copy saved to the Organizer as a "Creation" (creations exist and remain in the Organizer)...its thumbnail will have a "Creation" icon at its top. right...this can be edited in Photoshop Elements if necessary and the outputted as you want.
c. a thumbnail in the Organizer for the .wmv that is saved to the hard drive (this cannot be edited in Photoshop Elements further),this thumbnail will have a video icon at its top right corner. (You will see that when you move your mouse cursor in that area.)
You can get this .wmv version of your slideshow into Premiere Elements 7:
a. Premiere Elements 7, Get Media/Files & Folders...from the .wmv saved location
or
b. Highlight the video thumbnail in the Organizer, File Menu/Send to Premiere Elements
Either way, you will end up with your slideshow on the Premiere Elements Timeline as a "whole" .wmv. You do not have the option "Break Apart Slideshow" when you go this route. Remember, if you are working in the Sceneline View, for one .wmv video, you are going to have only one scene filled in the Filmstrip of the Sceneline View.
Although your details refer to "Timeline", I am not sure if you are working in the Timeline View or the Sceneline View.
Although this is a long explanation, there are all sorts of details that could be added. But for now, I hope this will get you started.

  • Problems with PSE7 and PRE7

I have been having several problems with these products.  By way of background I have used both PSE and PRE for many years and never encountered similar issues in the past.
1-When I create a slide show in PSE and include a video it is imported at the default duration of a slide.  For example if the default duration for a slide is 3 seconds, the video is imported at the same 3 seconds regardless of the actual length of the video.  Once the video is included in the slide show the duration cannot be modifed.  I can't delete the video and than re-import - the same problem persists.  A work around (that I discovered upon reading the forums) is to import the video directly from a file (not the organizer) and it comes in at the appropriate duration.  This is a very cumbersome solution because you have to go to the organizer, get the name and location of the file and than import.
2-The links between PSE and PRE seem to be broken.  I can't export the slides and video to PRE and than create the slide show in PRE.
3-When I finally completed the slide show using the work around described earlier, I attempted to Share the slide show as a DVD.  The movie file is created appropriately but when PRE starts it gives me a message that the PSE organizer is busy and halts.
Has anyone encountered similar problems.  I have been on hold with Tech Support (India) for over an hour.
    Thanks

  • Workflow for editing and organizing video with PSE7 and PRE7

I'm quite new to using PSE to organize my videos, and would appreciate suggestions on tutorials or guides creating a nice workflow to keep the growing number of clips manageable.
What I've done is to import my videos into a separate catalog, and I kind of hoped that I could make version sets like with still photos. I can't seem to find that option. Is it possible?
Alternatively, I'd like to just replace the original clip with an edited version, but again I haven't found an easy way to do it.
Any suggestions on how to start are welcome, also if they take a different approach from what I mention above.

    hey Steve,
thanks, i didnt think it would be an issue with my system. here's the detail:

  • Poor results importing PSE7 slideshows into PRE7

I originally posted this query into the Photoshop Elements forum ('cos I couldn't find this one originally...) and received some very helpful replies from Barb__O - thanks Barb.  These have given me some useful leads on things to try, which I've done and did see some improvements, but I'm still not at the point of being happy with the results.  The problem appears to be a PRE problem, so reposting here...
I am trying to put together a video presentation for output directly to PC monitor (more specifically, LCD data projector of 1024 x 768 resolution) and then record to DVD, in PAL SD format.
The presentation is to contain slideshows put together in PSE7 (so they already include title slides, transitions, Ken Burns effects and music tracks) and video clips from a couple of different sources - one clip is a scanned Standard 8 film (format is a frame-to-frame AVI at 720 x 576 resolution ie SD PAL) and some clips from a 1440 x 1080 HD (H.264) video camera (Canon HF10).  Reading through some of the forums, I'm doubting that PRE7 will be able to handle this variety of input formats...
The still images come from many sources - digital camera, scanned prints (B&W and colour) and scanned transparencies.  All images were dropped into the PSE7 slideshow in their respective original sizes/resolutions.  There are close to 100 images in the slideshow.  Apart from a few scanned B&W print enlargements that were spat out by PSE7 because they were too large (other photo editors had no problem with them - seems PSE is a little precious in this regard...) the process of putting the slide show together went pretty smoothly.
Playing the finished slideshow in the PSE7 preview window, the results were excellent.  Exporting the slideshow as a 1024 x 768 WMV file and playing it in any media player yielded the same, excellent results!  So far, so good.
I then wanted to put everything together using PRE7 - slideshows, video clips and titles.  From PSE7 I clicked the "send slideshow to Premiere Elements" at which point the slideshow was dutifully dropped into my currently opened PRE7 project.  As the project already contained the aforementioned scanned Standard 8 clip, the project setting was PAL DV 48kHz.  I was feeling exuberant at this stage.  I added a couple of title slides and a transition or two and played the result in the PRE7 full screen preview window...
I was absolutely horrified with what I saw when the slideshow started to play.  All of the still images were badly pixellated, had jagged edges and any vertical wipe transitions had a horrible, angular ripple effect.  In short, unwatchable.
As I had to get the presentation done and was clearly getting nowhere with PRE7, I exported all my slideshows out of PSE7 as WMVs, my video clip out of PRE7 as an AVI and dropped everything into Windows Movie Maker, with excellent results on the PC monitor and the LCD projector.  Clearly there was/is a problem with PRE7 or one or more of its esoteric settings.
I now want to add another slideshow and the HD video clips mentioned above to the presentation and then burn to DVD.  I would like to use PRE7 to do this, as I can set up menu markers where I want and I want to make finer adjustments to relative positions of stills and video than Movie Maker will allow - but obviously this is all dependent on resolving the quality problems.
After suggestions given by Barb, I played around with the PRE7 project setting and tried various settings here, eg HDV, SVHCD etc.  These certainly improved the quality of the still images in the slideshows (to the point where I was happy with them), but the transitions were still ugly and the pan/zoom effects became jerky and distracting, not only that, but the music track that I had synchronised with the slideshow, with a nice fade out at the end, just ended abruptly - again distracting and not at all good.
To be honest I'm confused with that project setting - should this be set to the format I want the finished project output to end up in, or is it set to the format of video input to the project?  If the latter, how does it deal with different format video clips?
I've also read about the recommendation to set all still images to 1000 x 750 pixels - this would have been fine if I'd known this *before* I put together the slideshows, I don't want to have to re-do them all again (or can I re-size the images while they are actually *in* the slideshow?)!  Besides, PSE7 itself and Windows Movie Maker handle images larger than this, quite happily.  Why can't PRE7?  Also, how is this resolved for large portrait orientated images?  What is the primary dimension (width or height)?
As an aside, I tried re-sizing a single image to 1000 x 750 and dropping straight into PRE7, but I still get poor results (ie grainy, pixellated image)!  ("Scale to framesize" is off)
So am I flogging a dead horse here or can I resurrect things so that I can end up with a reasonably professional looking result?  I really want to love these two products, they do some things really well, but so far, my overall user experience has been one of complete frustration and disappointment.  The user interfaces of these two products have to be about the worst I've come across!
    Thanks.

    Steve,
FYI - I think that MK had already tried sending directly from PSE 7 to PRE 7 see his mention of
I then wanted to put everything together using PRE7 - slideshows, video
clips and titles.  From PSE7 I clicked the "send slideshow to Premiere
Elements" at which point the slideshow was dutifully dropped into my
currently opened PRE7 project.  As the project already contained the
aforementioned scanned Standard 8 clip, the project setting was PAL DV
    48kHz.
One of my concerns about the specifc scenario is that the PE project setting was PAL SD video and the expected projector resolution was thought to be 1024x768 (and therefore higher resolution). even with Scale to Framesize off, I was not sure if that resolution difference would be a problem.
Your suggestion is making the PAL SD DVD and then using a software DVD player to play that DVD to the 1024x768 projector.   That is a different approach that I had not considered -- but it would probably avoid some of the awkwardness of dealing with 2 distinct types and resolutions of output.
    MK,
Your earlier post (if I understood it correctly) said that after the presentation using the projector, you would be making DVDs for distribution. Now I suspect that these would be standard definiton DVDs and probably PAL.
I recommend that you confirm in this thread what your current plans are for distributiion and playback.
Once the best fit for a PE project type is resolved, I do think it is worth another try of sending the slideshow from PSE 7 slide show editor to the PE 7 project.
Yes, you may expereince some timing differences between the playback you saw in the PSE slide show editor and what you see in the playback under Premiere Elements (note Steve's point to be sure that you should render in PE before doing playback).   Based on what you observe for your specific slide show, these differences can be discussed.
    ADDITIONAL comments
played the result in the PRE7 full screen preview window...
I missed this earlier.  Because your computer monitor is probably much higher resolution, I question whether this full screen preview is an effective evaluation of the final quality. Steve and Hunt, what are your comments on this?
    MK
can I re-size the images while they are actually *in* the slideshow?)!
Besides, PSE7 itself and Windows Movie Maker handle images larger than
    this, quite happily.
re-size images while they are actually in the slide show -- maybe but not easy
1 --When in the PSE slide show or from the PE Timeline, you can edit an individual photo and replace the existing photo with the results of that edit. However that is a one at a time operation and most probably not what you want.  It is better suited to adjustments to a specific photo when you determine it needs to be differrent for this slide show.
2 --Once your slide show is on the Premiere Elements Timeline, a few people have swapped out a folder of photos and brought in a different folder of downsized same photos. This is tricky but probably can be done: it is probably simpler if all photos are in the same folder. Also portrait photos probably need to be handled separately from landscape photos.
FYI - PSE 7 slide show can sometimes handle larger images and you did not have a problem - but others do have problems and you might in the future. This seems to depend on both the specifics of the photo files and the computer system configuration.

  • PSE7 Send To PRE7 Error

I have a 776 slide, 25 minute slideshow created in PSE7 using high res photos (3-4Mb)that also includes 1 track of audio (MP3) composed of about 6 songs. When I send the slideshow to PRE7 using the PSE7 "Send To" command PRE7 crashes with an "Unavoidable Error, Must Shut Down" error during "getting media". It appears to get about 95% of the way through obtaining the media and transferring the individual pictures to the PRE7 Organizer when the fault ocurrs. My system is a 2.66 Ghz Intel quad core processor, 2GB RAM, running XP with all MS updates. Pictures are located on internal 500GB hard drive. I want to make both HD and Std DVDs of this slideshow. What could be the cause of the error during transfer from PSE to PRE. I haven't even gotten to the rendering phase. I understand that the resolution of the original photos may be a problem during rendering, but I have successfully done this very same thing on prior versions of PSE5 / PRE3 with more photos without down rezzing the photos and without PRE shutdown. Any ideas as to the cause?

    >Are you reasonably sure that the photo size is the problem?
Many, many people have experienced problems in Premiere Elements and in the Photoshop Elements slide show editor because of using many high resolution photo files. How many is too many is definitely impacted by system configuration - but posts appear with problems for 300 slides. I did notice that you did higher numbers of slides with PSE5/PRE3 but I wonder if everything else is the same now when you use v7. For example, do you now have a higher resolution camera or are you using scanned photos that have higher resolution? Or do you have less hard drive space available? And then there is the factor that v7 PE uses the Organizer and v3 PE did not.
However, there is no way that I can be sure that the hign rez photos are the only cause of your current problem. Or whether the number of photos is the problem. Does your computer have all the recommended specs for processing hi-def? See http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b699a8
I can only suggest that you try the partial route for a single 75-100 photo segment. If you can get that single segment sent to Premiere Elements and exported from PE in the same format as the final output then I think the odds are good. Do note that if you did use pan or zoom within the show, then it will be desirable for this first test segment to contain pan and zoom.
    >The other issue with resizing, which is why I haven't done it in the past either, is that I need the originals for prints and don't want to store duplicates of different sizes.
Well, I have just accepted that I need lower resolution copies of my photos in order to use the for video work. How I manage those multiple copies is a topic that I am willing to discuss - but for now I think it diverts too much from your current task.
    NEW QUESTION:
Do you have the same Elements Catalog active in Photoshop Elements 7 and in Premiere Elements 7?
    referencing
    >It appears to get about 95% of the way through obtaining the media and transferring the individual pictures to the PRE7 Organizer when the fault ocurrs
That makes me wonder if you have the same or a different catalog. I am running with a different catalog in Prem Elem so I am not implying that either is a problem. However, if it is a different catalog, I would delete the thumbnails from the failed Send to Premiere Elements before trying the Send Slideshow of the partial.
    NOTE:
I have done multiple edits of this post in order to send info to you as fast as possible because of your timeframe. However at this point I will stop editing within this post - so please do reread the entire post.

  • Slideshow imported through PSE7 (rt click for edit in PREL7)

Slideshow imported through PSE7 to breakapart in PREL7, will not stay rendered when saved in PREL7.
Paul LS suggested I try this way. Do I have to wait till I am ready to burn before saving?

Your question is a bit too truncated to understand completely, mazza.
You created a slideshow in Photoshop Elements and brought it into Premiere  Elements, right?
What do you mean it will not stay rendered? When you press the Enter key, the slideshow will render. But, of course, if you change the slideshow, you will need to re-render it.

  • PSE 8 vs PSE7 slideshow creation

I have successfully created slideshows in PS Elements 7.  After installing PS Elements 8, I no longer can produce a viewable slideshow.  Here is my procedure;  -- start the browser, -- select images to be included in the slideshow, -- , go to CREATE > Slideshow, select OUTPUT on the Slide Show Editor screen, then choose Save as a File , to make a WMV in NTSC format and hit OK, -- then name the slideshow file that is to be created on the Save SlideShow as WMV screen.  After creation, I am asked if I want to save the changes made to the slideshow--I answer YES.  A WMV file is created but it is unviewable -- when playing it, the screen is constantly black.  If I play it in the slideshow editor, the timeline advances properly but the preview window also remains black.

I am having a similar problem.  If I am in the slide show editor, and click the play button, the screen goes black, but I can see the thumbnails light up one at a time.
If I "output" a pdf slide show I can use it with no difficulty.  If I "output" a wmv file it is all black.
If I try to view a wmv from years ago that is in my catalog I do not have a problem.
    Any ideas?
Since my last successul slide show creation I have upgraded from PSE7 to PSE 8 and I have also upgraded Pinnacle Studio Plus to v12.  I am not using Studio right now, but wanted to be complete about what is on the system.

  • Bruning a slideshow DVD with pse7

okay, I have been trying to burn a slideshow to a DVD on PSE7, and all the directions say click "output" , choose "burn disc" , then choose "DVD"  I do not get this option , all I can do is burn a VCD which doesn't work in my DVD players . Where am I going wrong?

Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
See if the audio pauses when the disk image is played by DVD Player
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • I am having a problem with files in media cache folder related to themes in PrE7.

I have PrE7/PSE7 and like others noticed my media cache folder kept growing.  In particular there were .pek and .cfa files for three files that weren't in any of my projects.  As I dug around I discovered they were Themes, ones that I never used.  As I played more I found that these were the only themes that when previewed did not have any sound.  My fear is that they are corrupt and and that is why the sound files are being created.  Can somebody check theirs and tell me if they should have sound or not?
    Thanks,
    Mike

As far as I know everything is stock from the original load.  I didn't have any luck finding any meaningful references to issues with themes.  It would be nice if somebody could confirm if the themes mentioned above do actually have audio before I try a reload of the software.  If Adobe monitors these forums as I would hope they do, maybe they could chime in with some type of acknowledgement (aware of bug but no fix or patch available...etc.)  But then again, 8 is released...7 is history...:(
    Bill thanks for your help...:)
I'm going to leave the post open over the weekend in hopes I'll get the info I requested then close it.  Thanks again.

  • Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer

    Hi
    b Summary of problem:
    *I recently upgraded to PSE 7 / PRE 7
*I am trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into the PSE7 Organizer
*I get a "...did not contain any supported file types..." error on attempted import
    b HOWEVER...
*I can edit same footage in PRE7
*This footage is automatically added to the Organizer
*I can play this footage in the PSE7 organizer but generating thumbnails takes ages
*Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (full 1920x1080i HD)
    *PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB
    *OS: Vista 64 bit
    b Detail:
I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hi
I'd just like to add an update to this post.
    b Summary:
*K-Lite Codec Pack clashes with Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software
*Analysis of video in Sony's PMB is well worth doing!
*You can Drag and Drop clips from Sony's PMB into PRE7
    b Detail:
As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

  • Pan & Zoom in PRE7

I have Photoshop Elements7 and Premiere 7 and I have a few basic questions.
I prefer the pan & zoom effects in PSE7 over the presets in PRE7 when I make DVD slide shows.
I don't like the black box effect surrounding the image when zooming in PRE7 so is it possible to duplicate the PSE7 effect in PRE7?
Is there any "ideal" image size when importing my images?  I understand the final image size would be 720 x 576  for a PAL system.
I note PRE7 manual states it can handle up to 4096 x 4096 pixels but I think that would use up an incredible amount of space on the DVD however as I understand it providing the files are in PSD format PRE7 will size them automatically to 720 x 576 for the PAL system.  To allow for upsizing in a zoom I would need to have the image sizes say 1200 x 800.
    Are my assumptions correct?
    Regards,
    Doug.

I don't know about your manual, but my books recommend you keep your images no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size. 4096x4096 would likely stop all but the most powerful computers right in their tracks -- and even if it did work, the program would likely choke during output to DVD.
So trust me. Keep it at 1000x750 or smaller.
There are a number of ways to do pans and zooms in Premiere Elements, so I'm not sure what you're comparing when you say pan & zoom effects vs. pan & zoom presets.
The presets are set up for various sizes of photos, as can be determined by the names of the preset For instance the 920x1280 Zoom In preset will work perfectly with a 920x1280 pixel photo. If you match the photo sizes with the preset you won't get a black box around the outside.
But the best way to get good, custom pans & zooms is to use keyframing.
I cover keyframing in my books -- and show you some advanced tricks with keyframing in my new "Cool Tricks & Hot Tips for Adobe Premiere Elements." I've also got a Steve's Tips article "Basic Keyframing PDF" you can download from the Muvipix.com site for free. I also cover it in my free "Basic Training with Premiere Elements" tutorials.
Finally, if you prefer to use presets, I've got a set of free presets made to fit perfectly with 1000x750 pixel presets. Instructions on how to use these presets are included with the download. You can download it here.
http://Muvipix.com, by the way, is a great resource for learning and mastering this program!

  • Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow Pan & Zoom issues with imported pictures

I am using PSE7 on a Windows XP machine. When I create a slideshow, I have the default set to pan and zoom the pictures. If I add pictures that are already in my catalog, it works great and will apply a random pan and zoom to each of the pictures. If, however, I add a picture from a folder and choose pictures that are not already in my catalog, it will add the picture to the slideshow but will not apply a pan and zoom to it (even though I said that it should). I can then manually add it, but it is not random, it always uses the same pan and zoom for each picture. In my most recent project, I had over 100 pictures I added to a slideshow that were not in my catalog. They all imported into the slideshow, but had no pan and zoom even though I had the option selected. I then selected all the slides, applied pan and zoom, and they all ended up with the exact same pan and zoom - nothing random. I really wasn't in the mood to manually change all 100+ pictures pan/zoom features. So, I created a new catalog, imported the pictures into the catalog, then created the slideshow, and it worked fine. Then, since I don't want those photos in a catalog, I delete the catalog. A lot of extra steps for something that I think should work no matter if you are importing files from the catalog or files from a folder. Or am I just doing something wrong?

    Paul,
Since I do catalog photos which I will be using a slide show, I guess that I may never experience this bug. I am curious about whether there is any difference in the behavior depending on whether these photos are from a digital camera or scanned photos?
Howeer, I do agree with your conclusion that since the slide show does support adding photo files (that are not in the Catalog) directly from their folder location into the slide show, it should apply random pan and zoom consistently.
Here is a link to the process to report that bug to Adobe -

  • Saving photoshop elements 7 slideshow as .wmv file

I have tried to export my slideshow from pse7 to pe7 and it wasn't working so i tried to save the slideshow as a .wmv file and it gets halfway through saving and it encounters a problem and needs to close what can i do about this new problem that i now have now i have 2 problems not able to export slideshow to premiere elements 7 and now i can not even save it please help

to troubleshoot your problem I suggest two courses of action at the same time
A -- you should create a new test slideshow which has only about 10 photos. In this test slide show use music (if your original slide show had music) and use pan/zoom (if your original slide show did).  When picking these approximately 10 photos, choose photos that are representative of those in your original slide show.
B - please respond to these questions
1 -- Have you ever been able to either save a slideshow as a wmv file or send a slideshow to Premiere Elements 7?
2 -- Have you recently cleaned out the Temporary Files on your computer ?  How much available space on your C drive?
3 -- How many photos are in your original slideshow (approximate number is OK) and what is the megapixel resolution (like were they from a 4 megapixel or a 10 megapixel camera or were they scanned)  for most of the photo files ?
4 -- Computer specs and what version of Windows?
