Slideshow's on ATV2

When I try and play any of my iPhoto albums as a slideshow on my ATV2 it plays the first photo, skips to number 10/11 then goes back to the first one and stops playing any!! At the minute the photos are stored on my MacBooks HD.

Since 10 is after 1, alphabetically the order in which they play seems correct to me. Your photos should be titled 001, 002 etc etc.
The slideshow quitting after a couple of photos is another issue. Does every slideshow do this.

Can I set the number of seconds a photo stays on the TV screen when I do a slideshow from my ATV2? Can't seem to find a setting on the Apple TV to do that. For the slideshow on the ATV2 I am choosing an Event from my iPhoto library and then choosing "slideshow" after adjusting the ATV2 settings for music and theme.

You can only set the time of slides with certain types of slideshows (i.e. classic and ken burns)

Thanks, that is what I am doing and it works. But when the folder contents are displayed for Slideshow, the photos are not in the order that I want. I can't figure out what controls the order in Slideshow because it is different from the order in the original folder and doesn't correlate with any of the columns (eg, Name, Date Created, etc). It seems like there is a random element in the transmission from iTunes to Apple TV, but that doesn't make sense.

How can I turn off the Ken Burns effect during aiplay from an iPhone 4?
Using the iPhone4 (iOS 5) to play a photo slideshow on the AppleTV (just upated) and I don't seem to be able to turn off the "Ken Burns" effect on the iPhone. The pictures are too zoomed and you cannot see the faces. However, when I play the same slideshow on the iPhone4 the effect is not there.
So I am unsure if this an iPhone or AT2 issue, but I hope someone can help.

Thanks for helping but that option is not there, just the transition options (Disolve etc).

Can the ATV2 make a slideshow from movies to instead of photos?

Is there a possibility to let the apple tv play steme files as 1 movie, without make it editing it in Imovie, because it takes so long to render it.
It sounds as if you may be asking about a "playlist" here rather than a "slideshow." Basically, there two approaches. The first is to simply merge the files together as a single physical file and manage it as such. The second would be to create a new iTunes playlist, drop the files into the playlist, arrange them in the order you want them to play and then set your TV2 device to "Show Playlists > All" in the "Settings > Audio & Video" menu. Thereafter you can select the "Playlists" option in your "Computer > Movies" menu to locate/play the playlist created in iTunes. The playlist clips will now automatically play sequentially beginning with whichever clip you select/play onward down the list.

Is the ATV2 a true Apple Appliance or a Toy?

Having spent a few hours studying all the problems that people are having, I am amazed at the difficulty the ATV2 is causing. It was supposed to be the transformational device that did not replicate the problems of the ATV1 which was a "hobby" device.
I have lived with ATVs since inception. I have 4 running now and after living with the ATV2 for a few weeks, I went out and bought a spare ATV1.
Near as I can tell, no one in their right mind would ask a non computer literate person to use the ATV2. My wife has come to hate it and refuses to use it. Yet she uses the ATV1 "hobby" devices with no problems and loves them!
I use my 4 ATVs as streaming devices, with the exception of pictures. We load them up with family pictures and do slideshow as screen saver and while streaming music from ITUNES for many hours a day.
It took me about half an hour to figure out how to get the streaming / sharing to work with the ATV2. Tricky of the design team to make it so you have to do a little on line research to figure out that a feature of ITUNES is you have to activate home sharing in multiple places to get it to actually share. I can see grandma doing that and going out to write a great report on the ATV2!
Once I got the ATV2 associated with my home library, imagine my surprise when I learned through experience that the thing has to RELOAD the library data EVERY time you use it! And in a single session if you switch from . . . say a TV show to a movie. What a great feature. Since my library is currently at 4 TERABITES, that little wait while the ATV2 finds out what TV shows or movies are out there are really enjoyable. I plan tasks, like rotating the tires on one of the cars for these little opportunities.
Why couldnt Apple designers just come up with a smaller, leaner, cheaper streaming version of the current ATV? It works great in streaming mode.
Hopefully some day they will see the light and transform the ATV2 into a useful device. But it is not right now.
I am buying up a bunch of ATV1s to keep me going for the next few years until someone comes out with a better solution or Apple sees the light.

I've put mine in the kitchen where we tend to watch content from the computer a little less.
The grouping of content has been a bit of a nightmare, I've had around 1,000 home videos listed individually amongst around about 300 commercial titles in movies and 14 seasons of Frost all listed separately along with many other similar scenarios in tv shows. With a lot of content, this all becomes difficult to navigate.
I've always been able to stream HD content flawlessly by wifi to my first generation Apple tv, in fact I could do so to several at the same time, so the second generation model holds no advantages there. Although I've found that the second generation model has issues connecting to the itms store occasionally, when my macs and my first generation models don't.
Buying from iTunes isn't the end of the world, but of course I now need to let it download fully before I can stream to the Apple tv, thankfully we don't do this in the kitchen all that much.
On the reloading issue, no it doesn't take more than a few moments but it's always there when you move from menu to menu, it wasn't there at all on the first generation model.

Photo slideshow not working on Apple TV

I have two ATV - one ATV2 running 6.2.1 and one ATV3 running 7.0 and I am sharing photos from iPhoto through iTunes. When I go to "computers=>Photos" they both go to the photos screen where I can chose "Events/Photos/Face". If I chose events or Faces, it will load and then I can chose one category and then it will let me run the slideshow. However, if I chose "Photos" it "loads" for a couple minutes and then goes back to the "Photos" menu. It will not let me load all the photos and then run a slide show. I have about 14K photos I would like to use in a slide show.
Any suggestions?

not sure if you were having the same issue i was.
i turned off match, and then turned it on again, on my apple tv.
after a while, everything upgraded. took a few minutes.

Photo slideshow order problems

Im using ATV2 withy mac. I have linked the ATV2 to my folder of digi photos via itunes (ie i am not sharing the photos via iphoto - prefer picasa!).
On ATV when i try to play a photo slideshow the photos are played in filename order only. This is a major problem when a folder has been populated by photos taken from two different cameras. It also causes problems with movies which arent played in order either.
It seems the ATV2 is crying out for an option to play the slideshow in order of date/time photo/movie taken. This is what happens when syncing your photos to your iphone!
I have tried somework arounds ie renamer or batch renaming the files in picasa. However, it appears the mac is deficient via finder in working out when the photo was actually taken. ie it gives you a filename created or modified date but this isnt consistent with the metadata of the photo of time photo taken.
Does anyone have any work arounds/suggestions? Please help!!

I don't have this problem using iPhoto, obviously it's your choice which software you use.

Press release and Apple info on built in apps for new Ipad state that you can stream.
Trying to do this with iphone 4s to atv2. Both devices upgraded to current software today.

After spending nearly 2 hours going up the AppleCare chain (and everyone was very concerned and courteous), it seems to be that the new iPhoto 1.0 for iPhone won't show photos on an Apple TV-fitted HDTV through Airplay. It WOULD, however show the videos (only). The senior tech I last spoke to couldn't get it to show up on his TV with a 4S, either. There is no "airplay" icon anywhere, in the sharing space or elsewhere. Only if one turns it on by double-tapping the homescreen and then going all the way to the left can you select AppleTV, allowing videos to play in iPhoto (pretty darn counter-intuitive...). By contrast, Apple's own photo app and every other airplay-enabled app will work with my TV (I have the current Gen2 Apple TV and the brand-new software update). The tech sent this info up the line, but it sounds like there will be a software update coming soon...(always beware of anything that is 1.0- I should have followed my own advice;) Everything else about iPhoto seems to work fine. A huge download, but the potential is certainly there. But only if one can use one's Apple-TVd TV with it.

Watching iPhoto album on ATV2

I created an album in iPhoto. When I watch thru ATV2 the photos appear in a completely different order. How can I watch the album via ATV with the photos appearing in the same order as in my iPhoto album on my macbook? Many Thanks.

Apple TV/iPhoto plays slideshows in chronological order, if you want your albums to display in another order, re-order the photos in iPhoto and batch change the date to reflect the order you want.

ATV2 will not load photo libraries/folders

Just connected ATV2 all appears to be working fine however when I try to access photos on my iMac it appears to be loading them stops and reverts to main menu. Should I be able to access slideshows in Aperture?

Photo stream only maintains photos for 30 days. After that they are deleted from photo stream but not from any devices than have already downloaded the photo stream photos. When you enabled photo stream on your new phone you were only able to download photos that fall within this 30 day period as the others are no longer in your photo stream (even though they remain on your other devices).

Multiple atv2 controlled by one computer

I am working on a project and require some information. I have 10 LCD displays that are used a a public broadcast system - to display announcements important notices (for a school). Currently we use PowerPoint to do this but when we upgraded the screens no thought was given to HD requirements of the LCD screens. As a result the slide being generated are blurred due to the video card output being low res.
Atv2 is a potential solution as it will broadcast media in HD using existing infrastructure. I was hoping to use the apple tv 2 to broadcast a keynote presentation (as yet not available) and have managed to export keynote slides as jpegs and put them into slide show albums in Iphoto. The slides show up very nicely but each time I update or add a new slide I have to go to each apple tv and have it "re sync" with the computer to update the photo file. This must been done individually at each apple tv (so essentially 10 times). So my questions are
Does anybody know if I can control 10 atvs from iTunes on an iMac to start up a slideshow rather than going to each atv station to "recache" the photo library? Alternatively can I start a video (again on multiple atvs) from the computer station rather than going to each atv to start the stream with the remote?

I'm sure that you will be able to find a way to make this work.
I haven't looked at putting together slideshows and playing them on the atv, but I believe that it can be done. I'm not sure how it works and I think it is controlled from the individual atv.
Probably the best solution would be to make it into a video and then, if Airplay does what I believe it should next month then you should be able to use that.
It can be controlled from a remote on iPhone or iPad and you can control which sets will get the video.
The only concern I would have is whether ten streams would clog your network, but I'm not sure how Airplay works with this (whether it sends out 10 individual streams or one stream to multiple devices. It would still take up quite a bit of bandwidth though.

IOS5 missing slideshow transitions?

After upgrading my iPhone4 to iOS5, it would appear some of my Photo Slideshow Transitions are missing. In particular when I airplay a picture slideshow to an upgraded ATV2, it is stuck on Ken Burns transition which isn't even an option in my transitionsand is too zoomed to see most of the faces. However this is not the case when I play the slide show on my iPhone without airplay, it is uses what ever transition is chosen again Ken Burns is not availalble.
Having had the conversation on another thread with BobbyCo57, we established after the upgrade he had 9 transitions and I have 5.

I figure I cannot turn Kenny Burns off if I can't see it. Below is what I see I'd like to get to 9 transitions, can anyone help?

Why? Do you know? Where do I find that particular thread? The lynda.com tutorial is for CS3. They seem to have all the transitions...also the Library is much richer that what I have? Are there pluggins for the removed tools?

Iphoto 11 albums slow to load in ATV2?

I'm having a problem with albums loading very s-l-o-w-l-y on ATV2. The actual directory of albums loads very quickly but when an album is accessed for a slideshow it takes forever to load and start. I have about 300 gigs of photos on a firewire drive. Wondering if there is something wrong with the library or it's size.; I created a small test library of 30 odd photos. This loads in a couple of seconds. My dilema is this: Is the size of the library the problem or is something wrong with the library (corrupt). I have tried rebuilding the library several times and all I get for my troubles is about 100 mangled thumbnails. Doing a repair on the thumbnails does notwork but if you export the pictures in question delete them from iphoto then reimport them they are OK. I would have posted this in the ATV2 forum but u-tube and movies are unaffected so it seems to be an iphoto problem.
Does anyone have any thoughts or a solution for this?

Figured it out after reading several other posts. When selecting albums to view in itunes they cannot be over a total of 8 gigs or they won't load. It will just hang. It would be nice if apple had NOTED THIS in the very scanty documentation they are in a habit of supplying with their products.
