  • Slideshow - save to macbook pro to DVD to play on non-Apple computer and DVD (TV)

I have tried to save a slideshow (with music) made in iPhoto to MacBookPro to then save to a DVD to play on Non-Apple computer AND to play on TV (DVD).  It acts like it is saving but then .mov won't play even on MY Macbookpro.  What am I doing WRONG?

This is supposed to happen, licensing issue mean that Apple can't AirPlay protected content to other devices. You might try VLC instead of Apples built in DVD player.

  • Poor performance in Lightroom 5 on Slideshow save as video (mp4)

Installed Lightroom 5 upgrade.  On LR 4 I can export a 55 slideshow as MP4 with 1080p preset using all four cores on a win7-64 (Intel I7) in about 6-8 min (used 70-80% processor).  In LR5, the CPU never goes above 15% processor and takes 45-50 minutes. I can flip between the two (not at the same time) to test. Luckily, no catalog changes other than what the automatic conversion did.
Interestingly, I see a ".aac" and ".m4v" in the destination directory during the rendering process (they eventually goes away and are replaced by the ".mp4" at the end of the rendering export process).
Does anyone know why LR5 is not taking full advantage of the multi core CPU?  Any suggestions to improve performance in this area?Overall, its very disappointing.  I have to go back to LR4 to re-render the slideshows that eventually get exported to a DVD (but that's another story).
Additional information, when I render the slideshow, it looks like LR4 exports using the native executable (no spawned subprocesses), but LR5 spawns a separate process to handle the export/rendering process.
    Executable: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5\Support\DynamicLinkMediaServer\dynamiclinkmediaserver\1.0\amecommand.exe

    FWIW:
Long time photograper, short time being serious about digital photography.
My first Adobe product was Premier Elements 9 so my granddaughters and I could "learn video".  We are now on PrE11.
Then my granddaughters wanted to learn some digital photography and the next two products were Photoshop Elements and Lightroom 4, now 5.
All three will do slide shows, however Premier Elements 11 seems significantly superior.  It will load RAW and most any other file type, there are loads of multiple audio track options, there is easy "Ken Burns style" pan and zoom and it produces about any shareable output known from YouTube to Blu-Ray.
Lightroom has a slightly hidden capability that makes PrE easy to set up.  Start with a new project specific folder, select everything you want in Lightroom, then export copies to the project folder and open a project in PrE.
For evaluation, you can review a slide show of my visit to the Grand Canyon last spring.  There is a lot of Lightroom and gentle Nik HDR work it it.  https://vimeo.com/64474485

  • Producing a narrated slideshow, save and send via email attachment?

I'm wondering if one can produce a slides show in keynote, add narrative to it, save it in a iMovie or some other format, and be able to send it as a stand alone presentation to someone via email attachment or clickthrough on a website.
Is it possible to do with within the Apple family of products? If so, how do you add the narrative and in what format should it be saved?
I need to be able to give clients a sample of a live presentation. Not the talking head, but the slide content with voice over.
Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Garageband, iMovie, iPhoto and QuickTime Pro can make your file and save (export) to a QuickTime file format. Keynote could "make" the video portion (export to QuickTime formats). QuickTime Pro can "record" audio (supported device required). A "mix and match" use of these apps could help reduce the file size.
    Things to consider:
Email has file size limits on attachments and even a very short file would probably exceed them. You could post your file on any "server" and just send a link to the file in your email.

  • Assertion failed during save of slideshow settings

    Hi,
Great to be able to try out the new Lightroom version!
Here are two things I'm noticing:
There seem to be several issues with slideshow. When I try to change slideshow settings, "impromptu slideshow" stops working in all modes. Also, on occasion, when I try to save slideshow parameters (in the slideshow module), I get the following error message: "Unexpected error performing command: assertion failed!".
What I did was turning almost everything off in the slideshow, no border, cast shadow, guides, no borders, identity plate, rating stars, text overlays, color wash, intro/ending screens, then tried to save that.
The other issue is that it's significantly slower than my current Lightroom 2 version, as many people have already pointed out.
    Am using a 4-core Vista 64 machine.

    Hi Victoria,
Thanks very much for your quick reply and for looking into this. Here is a sequence that reliably reproduces it for me, after some trials, hopefully this is helpful:
Go to Library module, exit Lightroom 4
Start Lightroom 4 again (starts in Library module).
    Switch to Slide show module
Make some changes to settings in the right panel (e. g. disable "Stroke Border") and save changes (Slideshow->Save Slideshow settings). Note: When I first did that, I unchecked all the boxes, except for "Slide Duration" and "Repeat").
    Switch back to Library module.
Exit Lightroom and restart it (is in Library module now).
Click on "impromptu slide show" button in the toolbar. The slide show will start, but with different settings from what was saved earlier.
Exit out of slide show with ESC. Switch to Slideshow module.
You can see now that the settings are different from what was saved. Make some changes to settings in the right panel (e. g. ...) and try to save changes (Slideshow->Save Slideshow settings). I get an assertion failure when I do this.
Generally, when I exit Lightroom from the Slideshow module and come back, I see the previously saved settings. However, when I exit Lightroom from the Library module and restart it, I get different slideshow settings from what I last saved.
Also, it seems like "impromptu slideshow" stops working, once I visit the Slideshow module.
Once I saw Lightroom abend when I exited after getting the assertion - but I can't reproduce that. Here is the event that was generated:
Faulting application lightroom.exe, version 4.0.0.1, time stamp 0x4ef2621d, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18541, time stamp 0x4ec3e855, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x00000000000acb17, process id 0x59c, application start time 0x01ccd4c03f0b3450.

  • I just burned DVD in DV-NTSC format but would also like to burn it in Wides

I just burned a DVD slideshow in DV-NTSC format but would also like to burn it in DV-NTSC widescreen. Can you change the format without rebuilding the slideshow?

    No.
My HD TV allows you to change the aspect ratio, but 4:3 images from a digicam look weird in widescreen.

  • What files does the slideshow create in Windows

I have just received a 60GB video ipod and am doing some homework before I go and start to load content. I am running Windows XP and have gone out and bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 to manage my pictures. Is this the only Win PC software that can work for creating slideshows? What extra files will this create, does it roll up the photos into a new large file with audio, is it just a pointer file for the ipod to understand where the pics are, what do I need to copy to my ipod apart from the actual pictures and what file do I run for the slideshow? If I have thousands of pictures, I presume I can just create separate slideshow files in the respective folders and then create a playlist of the slideshows? I thought I saw either wmv or pdf as the PC file formats that are created for the slideshows which I was a bit surprised at. Also, does the music I create for the slideshow remain separate or and just pointed to - can I use an mp3 file or do I ned aac (or is this just for video), or does it all get rolled up? Thanks for the newbie slideshow help. I've checked the forum but can't seem to find this info so hopefully I am not just repeating the questions.
    Cheers

I have Adobe Elements 4 I know you can save your Photo Slideshow in wmv format. I love the new "panning" effect in Elements 4, I think that's what you refer to as the "Slideshow Video". However, I think you need to check out Microsoft PhotoStory 3 (a free download from Microsoft website). I'm no Microsoft fan, but honestly, you can create a video photo slideshow/PhotoStory in less than 5 minutes. Unlike Photoshop Elements, PhotoStory 3 is much easier because it uses the "wizard" approach. Check it out. In no time, you can create the video slideshow, save it in .wmv format. Then I use a tool to convert the .wmv file to .mp4 file.
People who asked why you would want to make a slideshow video obviously miss out the latest fun in sharing photos as moving pictures!!! It's so much fun than just watching static pictures with music. It impressed my friends so much!

  • Slideshow Quality to iDVD

    Hello,
could anyone offer any advice on sharing slideshows to iDVD?
The basic question is how to retain optimum quality from original photograph to slideshow to eventual burn on to iDVD.

    N H H:
If you use iMovie HD 6 (in my opinion much better than the current version and available to users who have iLife 08) let me suggest the following work flow:
1 - after you're satisfied with the movie slideshow save and quit iMovie.
2 - open iDVD, select your theme and create a slideshow by clicking on the "+" button at the bottom.
3 - open that slideshow and drag your iMovie project file into it.
4 - complete the iDVD project and save as a disk image to preview with DVD Player before burning with Disk Utility at the slowest possible speed.
This lets iDVD do the rendering of the movie thus saving a second compression of the movie, first iMovie's and then iDVDs. This also lets iDVD scale the movie to the TV Safe Area so none of it is lost to TV overscan when played on CRT TV sets as seen here.
As far as burning it's strongly recommended in the iDVD forum to use Verbatim-R disks and burn at the slowest speed possible. This will give you the best possible quality finished product.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Making a Slideshow.

How do I get a slideshow of only the photos that are highlighted?

Thanks for the e-mail, Brett N.
    I am soooooooooo lost!!!!!
I am a real estate broker.   Before my old computer motherboard died, I was using the Photoshop software that came pre-loaded.  It was great.  I'd upload photos of houses, make a slideshow, save it as a file and attach it to an e-mail to my prospective buyers and to listing sellers.  I thought I had downloaded Photoshop for Beginners, but I seem to be working in Lightroom.  I have the slideshow already stored to a file.  However, it doesn't attach to an e-mail as I did before.
I'm now working in Windows 8 on my desktop.  The new software has changed so much that I'm having difficulty in maneuvering.  The "Help" offered doesn't answer my questions.  I can't find a phone number for customer support to talk to a "person".  Can you give me a contact phone number of someone who can help me over the phone?
I really need to get this slideshow to a prospective buyer.
    Thanks!
    Joan

  • Change settings from PAL back to NTSC

I burned a disk in PAL and now can't convince the computer to save the NTSC settings I have re-entered.

Is this an iMovie question? An iDVD question? If so, then perhaps your question would be better addressed in one of those forums. Be sure to include the relavant info like which version of iMovie or iDVD you use, which OS, Quicktime version is often important, etc.

  • DV NTSC Anamorphic to DV50 NTSC Anamorphic

I created a photo only slideshow using DV NTSC Anamorphic as my Easy Setup. I then learned that DV50 is a better codec for that. I changed Easy Setup to DV50 NTSC Anamorphic and dragged my DV sequence into the new DV50 sequence. I said "no" when it asked to change sequence setting to match clips. The new sequence looks fine, but I was surprised that I didn't get render bars. It's still 720x480 & 48kHz, so I'm assuming that's why?
    1) Am I causing myself any problems by doing this? Losing any quality?
    2) Should I also go into Sequence Settings (Cmd 0) & change Render Control to Apple ProRes 422? I know the file will be bigger, but is there any other reason why you would not do that when trying for the best quality?
    Thanks.

    Hi -
You don't need to change your Easy Set Up.
Make a duplicate of your DV sequence (click on the sequence icon in the browser and control-click on it. From the drop down menu choose duplicate). and then load +the copy+ to the timeline by double clicking on the copy sequence's icon. This will keep you original sequence safe in case something goes wrong.
Click anywhere on the copy sequence timeline and type Command + 0 (zero) to bring up the Sequence Settings. Change the Quicktime Video Settings Compressor to DVCPRO50-NTSC. Click OK and you are done. You will need to re-render.
You don't lose quality - you gain it because DVCPRO50 is a better compression codec.
In answer to you second question, I would just render in the Sequence Codec of DVCPRO50 as the quality gain you will get by rendering in ProRes 422 will, IMHO, depending on your source material, be too subtle to be worth doing. But if you want to do it, go ahead. It will just use a lot more disk space and place a heavier load on your drives to playback the ProRes 422 parts.
    Hope this helps.

  • SLIDESHOW WITH IPHOTO

    HELLO,
IS IT POSSIBLE TO WRITE A SLIDESHOW iphoto directly by sending to IDV?
Is there another way to do it?
Thank you for your answer if you could solve the problem.
    Patrick.

just see using iPhoto it is not possible to burn a slideshow from Iphoto to IVD.
That's not true. Setup your slideshow as you want it in iPhoto with the music and transition that you want. Then, while in the slideshow mode, select Share->Send to iDVD. iPhoto will create a Quicktime movie of the slideshow, save it in the User/Library/Pictures/iPhoto Slideshow folder, open iDVD and add the QT movie to project. I just ran a test and it worked exactly as I described.

  • Apertures Slideshow problems

I'm using two 23in. apple HD monitors. When I use the Slideshow function the images alternate between the two monitors. Image one shows on the main monitor and Image 2 shows on the second monitor. What I need is for the Slidesow to appear on both monitors. I have gone into Slideshow presets and unchecked the Show Slideshow on main monitor option. Any help would be nice

Verizon server couldn't handle ? in URL. This URL failed:
    http://mysite.verizon.net/jdifred12/North%20End%20Landscaping/SlideShow_assets/S lideShow.html?lang=en
    This one work:
    http://mysite.verizon.net/jdifred12/North%20End%20Landscaping/SlideShow_assets/S lideShow.html
To fix it, you have to do some editing, look for openSlideShowWindow.js in SlideShow_assets folder. Open it with TextEdit, search for:
    var slideWindow = window.open(url + '?lang=' + language, 'slideshow',
    change to:
    var slideWindow = window.open(url, 'slideshow',
save and upload it to your server. You may have to do this after every publishing, so save a copy on you local machine for the future.

  • Why is the quality of the DVD not as good as original mpeg layer 3

I have produced a wedding album slideshow in keynote (this allows me the 'flop' transition giving the appearance of the pages being turned)
I tried exporting staring into iDVD but the slideshow quality was awful on the DVD.
I have now tried exporting it from keynote as H264 1920 x 1080, mpeg layer 3. This produces a very hi quality quicktime movie (about 200mb)
From there I have tried importing it into iMovie at widescreen and then sending to iDVD, outputting at professional quality. I've also tried dragging it straight into iDVD.
Resulting DVD is awful and more blobby than pixelated. The intro generated by iDVD is fine however.
Any ideas on what I am doing so wrong?
Please help, I'm doing this as a favour for a friend.
    Kosh

DVDs are low resolution devices by todays standards; only about 648x480 pixels for NTSC discs.
Image size for iDVD slideshows should be: NTSC standard 720x540 pixels, widescreen 854x480 pixels.  PAL standard 720x540 pixels, widescreen 854x480 pixels.  Going to larger images won't help and can make things worse.

  • Exporting movies from iPhoto?

    using version 6
the slideshow from iPhoto of photos is a world of difference using the same photos in iMovie.
Is there any way to keep the slideshow quality of iPhoto and export it into iMovie, and keep the quality?
My digital camera takes photos and movies. I would like to combine the two.
But iMovie almost destroys completely the quality of the photos.
I know I can export to iDVD and have two separate viewings, I guess. one for movies and one for photos. Does anyone know of a way to make movies export from iPhoto?

    ain11:
You can create a slideshow in iPhoto and then use the Share->Send to iDVD menu option. That will create a .mov file of the slideshow, save it in your Movies folder and put it in an iDVD project.
For just the photos, put them in an album in the order you want and then in iDVD create a slideshow, open the slideshow section, go to the Media/photos section and locate the album in iPhoto you created. Select the photos from that album and drag into the iDVD slideshow window.
A way to get better quality movies out of iMovie into iDVD is to not let iMovie do the rendering of the assets. Once you have the movie complete close iMovie. Then open the movie project package, Control-click and select Show package contents. Navigate down until you find the SharedMovies/iDVD folder. There will be a .mov file that you can drag into an open iDVD menu window. Be sure not to put in a drop zone for the menu.
That will let iDVD do the rendering as it uses those assets in the project. IMO the sharpest quality is obtained by importing the stills into iDVD and creating the slideshow here. You can have titles and comments if necessary. The downside, if it is one, is no KB effect. IMO, no loss but others really like it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current.
