  • Adding multiple songs to a slideshow in Iphoto......

I know how to add a song to a picture slide show in iPhoto. But how do I add lets say several songs to one big slide show? I was asked to do it as a favor for a friend because it is her birthday. I am gonna do one song for her early years than as she gets older switch it to another song, etc......But how can I do it on one big file? It is gonna go on a dvd or cd and be played at a birthday party and I would like to be able to pop it in and not have to change the cd or have to press any buttons on the dvd player.
Thanks for the help and sorry if the question is confusing....

Create a playlist for the slideshow in iTunes. Then in the slideshow settings, select the entire playlist rather than any individual song. If you can't see your playlists in the box, then you need to look for the little dot (or dimple) and drag it to open the window wider.
For screenshots that beautifully illustrate the process, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2237291 and follow the links in lori_diloretto's last post.
While the iPhoto slideshow is the easiest to create, the timing of the songs during play of the iPhoto slideshow is imprecise, especially when you export the slideshow to QuickTime or iDVD (for burning to disc). If you want to precisely match the music to the slides, you may wish to import your slideshow album into iMovie (use the Media Pane in iMovie, locate the album, and simply drag it into the iMovie project), then manipulate the music track from there. When done, launch iDVD, create a new project, and import the iMovie project. You can customize your DVD menu(s) and burn the movie to DVD.

  • Urgent advice needed for exporting a slideshow in iPhoto '09

    hi,
what is the best setting for exporting a slideshow from iPhoto '09?
I'll be burning it with iDVD and it will be watched on a large flat screen TV.
I WAS GOING TO USE THE .MOV option with the default settings but should I use the DV settings?
I've only got time to try it once.
    thanks

Honestly there is no answer for that until you do it. A mov will work perfectly fine. But there are variables: The quality and sharpness of the original photos. How they survive being compressed to a mov, how that mov survives being compressed to DVD format. The quality of the DVD player (and no, they are not all the same) and finally the crispness of the screen. If all goes well, yes it will look perfectly good. But you're not going to know until you do it.

  • Problems with slideshows in iPhoto version 9.6

How can I make slideshows in iPhoto without music? Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow. The music (not from my own library) is very loud and irritating. Other settings that I have made, for example transitions and display- time per photo, also change when the slideshow starts. It seems that the settings (Themes, Music and Settings) are not saved, and the computer make its own choice.
    I use iMac 2,9 GHz Intel Core i5 - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB - OS 10 Yosemite version 10.10.1.
    iTunes is version 9.6 (910.29).
I have recently updated my software.
    Any answer to my problems?
    Thank you.

Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow.
Did you press the "Choose" button, after you disabled the checkmark for music? Otherwise it will still be enabled.

  • Imported slideshows from iPhoto with problems

I am new to Aperture, but I am trying it out because of a bug causing problems with slideshows in iPhoto. I imported the the library with albums and slideshows from iPhoto. When trying to view slide shows in Aperture, a lot of the photos do not focus/show very low resolution. I have searched the settings and checked the originals' metadata without finding any obvious explanations. Does anyone else have experience with this. Are my settings wrong, or could it be problems carried over from iPhoto?

It seems edited photos from iPhoto library does not change the original photos where they were imported from.
That's correct. iPhoto will never change the Original photo.
iPhoto is a Digital Asset Manager and treats your original file like a film shooter treated the negative. It preserves it at all costs. So, every operation - editing, exporting etc - are carried out on a copy of the original file.
As Apearl suggests, you may be using more disk space than you need: Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Slideshow settings  made impossible by a big black rectangle covering the upper-left half of the screen/photo,

Slideshow settings made impossible by big black rectangle covering the upper-left half of the screen/photo, appearing when I move the cursor. Disappears when I start the slideshow. Restart does not help.

    Thanks,
    -  First: Linc Davis' question seems to be relevant: Indeed, when I disconnect my second display, the problem disappears.  However, reconnecting the display makes the problem reappear again.
    - I use iPhoto 9.5.1. and Mac OS 9.5.2.  The machine is a MacPro first part of 2008 (not a MacBook Pro as I inadvertantly said in my original question). Processor 2X2,8 GHz Quad-core intel Xeon. Memory 6 GB, with new (2yrs old) 2 TB SATA-disk (WDC WD2002FYPS-02w380 Media) as hard disk.
    - Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing - with only part of the settings display (in Norwegian) visible.
    - I have looked for a solution in the iPhoto settings, turned the program off& on, and restarted the computer, all without success.
    -  The library is, as I understand it, located in users/[me]/pictures/iPhoto Library.
    -  No, as I remember I did not apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem.  I have regularly updated the programs, as they come, without checking the results on each program.
    -  I run a managed library
    -  Apparently there is 1,29 TB free space (out of 2 TB) on my boot drive [=central hard drive, see above?].

  • Slideshow settings not 'sticking'

    Hi All,
Have a lot trouble with newly downloaded iPhoto 9.1.1. Specifically, when working with slideshow, settings for individual photos are not being saved.
For example: I select specific 'Ken Burns' settings—zoom settings for instance—for an individual image. They remain as set until an indeterminate amount of time and then are lost. I might be editing the settings for the sixth image in the slideshow before noticing that the settings for the second image have reverted.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    S

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Problems with slideshows on iphoto and Apple TV (no sound)

I have encountered a problem with iPhoto slideshows when streaming to Apple TV (using mirroring).  The slideshow plays ok, as far as the photos are concerned, but no sound is coming through.  When I play the slideshow on the iMac, the slideshow is fine - photos and music playing as they are set up in the slideshow settings.
Is anyone else having the same issue?  It has previously worked fine so I wondered if it might be something on the most recent update?

Hello, I don't have any of those things, but...
    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Problem with SlideShow Settings

    Hi
I've just upgraded to iPhoto'09 and it's working great, but I have a problem with the SlideShow settings:
When I choose a face, event or a place and press the "Play" button to start the slide show, I choose the settings I want (like unchecking repeat slide show and checking shuffle slide order), and check "use settings as default), when I close iPhoto or change the face, place or event, settings come back to their original status, not the ones I chose and made as default.
    Any Ideas?

That's because you've set the default for that Slideshow, not all slideshows.

  • Ow do I keep the slideshow settings window from popping up?

every time I start a slideshow in iPhoto 7.1.1, the slideshow settings window keeps on popping up, even if I save the display and music settings.
This is useless and annoying. Where do I change the settings such that I am not asked about the slideshow settings every time anew?
    thanks for any help!

    2.2 GHz Intel C...:
If your using an album and playing a slideshow with the play button at the bottom of the page hold down the Option key and hit the play button. That will bypass the setting window if you have saved the settings. Those settings will be linked to that album so if you remove the photos and put new ones in the same settings will still be valid.
    Barry:
If the slideshow button is not in the toolbar at the bottom go to the View->Show in Toolbar menu and select Slideshow.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Slideshow settings: can't fit seconds played per slide to music

In Snapshot Theme, iPhoto is not responding to reducing the number of seconds per photo in Slide Show Settings. iPhoto continues to show each slide for the same unaesthetic long period of time (too many seconds per bars/beats in music) regardless of how many seconds the setting is reduced to.
    (1) Why won't the slides play for 5 seconds when I set it for 5 seconds...(I know it says "minimum seconds:...")...or at least shorten the period of time that a slide plays when I reduce it from, say 12 seconds minimum per slide to 5 seconds minimum per slide?
    (2) How do set seconds per slide to fit the rhythm & bars of music?

You may have to look at 3rd party apps for this. I don't know if iMovie 09 can set each slides individually but iMovie HD 6 could. It's the last version to let you add multiple audio tracks, crop the music, fade in and out, etc. So much easier to customize a slideshow with it.
If you had iLife 06 you could reinstall it. LQ Graphics Photo to Movie is a 3rd party app that I think will let you customize each slides time.

  • Slideshow in iPhoto - changing the theme for various slides to eliminate KB effect - doesn't "hold" through playback

I have made a couple of slideshows using iPhoto.  I used the Ken Burns effect as a theme (using my own music).  Many of the slides would not suit the KB effect (African animals) so I used the settings - change this slide to eliminate the KB effect for that slide - I also lengthened the duration that the slide played.  I found that the effect I wanted for the slides would be correct for the Preview, but then it would revert to the KB effect upon playing the slideshow.  Also, if I happened to move a slide to a different position, all the changes would have gone and I would have to repeat the exercise again!  Very time-consuming and frustrating.  Why won't the slides keep "their" instructions?  Also, I have had iPhoto crash a few times while I am making changes.
Can anyone help me sort this out?  I am presently exporting the latest slideshow to iTunes (and I've got my fingers crossed that all the changes I want are there)

NOt really. iPhoto is good for a quick and simple slideshow. For more complex work you need more powerful tools.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Slideshow transitions iPhoto-FrontRow

Hi, I read about changing slideshow options to an album in iPhoto to make them apply also in Front Row. I tried that, i started an album slideshow in iPhoto and selected "Ken Burns effect" and "fade-out transition", but in Front Row if I play that album only the Ken Burns effect applies, pictures are displayed in sequence without any transition effect.
How can I set also a transition effect in Front Row?

You may need to create an actual "Slideshow" project in iPhoto rather than applying the settings to a regular album of pictures.

  • I'm unable to change slideshow settings for flagged folder, when i hit play the computer locks up and i have to crash it

I'm unable to change slideshow settings for flagged folder, when I hit play the computer locks yp and I jave to crash it to reboot

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does not then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case try the following on your original library:
If you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Commadn+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try but it only lets me import 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow.

How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try, but it only exports 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow I made on iPhoto.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.
