Slideshow to quicktime to ipod - what am I doing wrong?

I have created a 10 minute, 2.1 meg slideshow with a four-tune songlist with the intention of loading it on my iPod and iPhone. All seems okay when I export to Quicktime and play it on my iMac. But things go awry when I try to load it onto either the phone or the ipod: FIrst I was only getting the first song to play; based on discussions here I then converted all the audio files from AAC to mp3. The result is an error message in iTunes saying that "the file cannot be synced because it cannot be played on the iPod". I noticed that the Quicktime files are now 100+ megs-- is this the problem? Can this be changed? Am I going to have to shoot the lock off my wallet and buy Quicktime Pro to get this to work?
I'm using 7.2 QT & latest iTunes.

Hey wingrider97,
Are you trying to download the Podcasts on iTunes, and then sync them over to your iPod? Or are you attempting to download them directly to your iPod using the Podcast app? Depending on your answer, one of the following documents might help:

  • Quicktime X: Gosh, what am I doing wrong?

I tried to download the iPad keynote using Snow Leopard and Quicktime X. It was a horrible experience of heavy pixelation, stutters, and long pauses.
I thought that it was Apple's servers being hit hard, but I rebooted into Leopard and tried again with Quicktime 7. The download was beautiful. Hmmmm.
Rebooted into Snow Leopard and tried viewing the keynote in Quicktime X and again a horrible experience.
Also, I tried downloading some movie trailers from Apple and kept getting a strange "URL doesn't exist" message. Weird.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Have I not turned Quicktime X on properly? Is there a button that I need to press?
    Gosh

Gosh, shucks, I went to watch the iPad keynote again and it is totally unwatchable on my Snow Leopard and Quicktime X. It's really weird because it downloads beautifully in Leopard and Quicktime 7.
I've been trying to find a button to push in Quicktime X to make the new Quicktime look as good as the old Quicktime, something like a "look gooder" button, but I still can't find it — although I look every morning before I go to work and then when I come home, I run to my puter cause I been thinking about it all day and figure that I now know where it might be, but sadly no joy.
So, it seems that whenever I want to watch something on Quicktime, I need to do it in the older Leopard platform and not this new Snow Leopard thingy. Which is weird because I paid money for this thing and stuff and you know...it kind of makes me cross my eyes and stuff which looks real suspicious when the cops pull me over when I speed home with new ideas of where that "look gooder" button might be hiding.
So, trying again — what am I doing wrong? Is there a button that I am not pushing? Or something? Like that? Anyone?

  • Replacement ipod, what am i doing wrong???

my ipod had an error where it was saying usb malfunctioned everytime i put this into a laptop, took it to apple they said the usb was bust, got a new ipod (great) however got home and plugged it, just get a pic on my ipod showing a cable\disc. does this mean i need to install the software again, i have itunes already on my computer, if so i have misplacd disc, can software be downloaded frowm apple webiste???????
please help me, need to get my ipod up and running again???

The graphic you are seeing is telling you it needs to connect to iTunes. Yes, you can get it here at Apple.com. Just look up above our posts and click the link that says "iPod+iTunes". Then install a fresh copy.
Also, you may want to consider where it is being plugged in. Directly to the computer is better than a powered hub, which is better than an unpowered hub. Just to be sure, make sure it is a USB cable, not an older FireWire one as the Touch will not be happy with FireWire.
Finally, maybe add some equipment info to your profile? Harder to tell what is wrong when no one knows what you are using.

  • We transferred purchases / synced an iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, and then updated the ipod. we can no longer put the files back onto the ipod. what are we doing wrong]

we transferred purchases and synced from a iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, after it updated and synced again we have been unable to put the files back onto the ipod. the computer will not let us drag or copy paste files, and when we tried to " export" the library to the documents folder, it only showed up in code.  we have books and music we would like to reload to the ipod.

    Hello Jean164,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are unable to manually put your content back on your iPod Touch.
It seems like you may need to re enable Manually Manage Music now that the device has been updated, and this article should help with that.

  • Songs fail to transfer to Ipod, what am I doing wrong

Ok I got the 30GB ipod video for xmas and installed it at my computer at home. Being that there were no mp3's on my computer at home I uploaded 20 or so albulms by simply puting in the disk, uploading it, then while in itunes click the update my ipod after it finished being ripped. I get back at college and install itunes and it automatically uploaded the "my music" folder from my computer and shows all the songs in the folder. When i plug the ipod in, it says this ipod is linked to another library, would you like to change the link to this library and replace all files and playlists with the ones on this computer. I DO want to change the link so that its connected with this library, but I DO NOT want it to replace all the files I already have on there. Because I always select NO for the answer, it wont allow me to add any songs to my IPOD...can anybody help me out?

Read this how to: "Managing Your Songs Manually" http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt3.html Useful if you want to use your iPod on multiple computers.

  • I've upgraded to firefox 4/snow leopard and now my .avi's won't play using the quicktime plugin. What am I doing wrong?

I'm unable to play .avi's in Firefox 4 that worked fine in Firefox 3. I just get a blank page. I've also upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (prior to upgrading Firefox) since the last time I viewed them.
I'm serving these files from my local harddrive so the url starts with file::
I believe these were displayed using the quicktime plugin. Firefox reports my current quicktime plugin as version 7.6.6
I need to get this working because I'm giving a talk soon, and I've been using references in my talk pdf to link to the movies.
    ======
Just checked, and my movies play fine in Safari. Crud. I'd rather not have to switch to Safari as my default browser. Yuk.

Update: Turns out this is only a problem when the .avi is stored locally and served locally. I uploaded the file to a server and then pointed Firefox there. In that case it displays just fine. Weird.

new one wont receive my playlists from my library. what am i doing wrong? It looks like they are synched and i have the latest version of itunes on both but the only way to access my music is through the store

    See:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all your synced media like apps and music is in your iTunes library then simply:
    - Backup to iTunes.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • After exporting to quicktime file, the file has sound but no video, what am I doing wrong?

after exporting to quicktime file, the file has sound but no video, what am I doing wrong?  The self contained movie box is not checked.

    Hi
Did You go via Compressor ?
Did You use QuickTime Conversion ?
    I don't
    I do
    • In TimeLine set In and Out-Points to the full Movie/Project
    • Select ALL - Clips and Audio
    • Go up to Sequence and down to Render Only - down to Mix Down Audio
    • then Sequense and Render Selected - Both (Video and Audio)
    • then Export and as QuickTime .mov (NOTHING ELSE)
    • I use to do - Not Self-Contained as it saves both time and space
Your Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - Needs lot's of free space to work OK - I never go under 25Gb free space on this one,
Good Luck - Yours Bengt W

    > Apple do not give statements here, this is a user to user discussion.
I didn't realise that. Wow that is TERRIBLE: I thought was Apple not Microsoft. Next we'll have Cook jumping up and down yelling "Developers, developers, developers!"
    > If you provide details of what is wrong, you might get a reply from experienced users.
The fact that it's been here for more than nine months without a response suggests not.

  • Trying to update my ipod touch. What am I doing wrong?

I have updated itunes to the current version but it still won't let me update my ipod touch. Itunes says I am running the latest version 4.1.0.  But my ipod says I can't download apps unless I upgrade to iso6.0. What am I doing wrong? I've looked at the support and done everything it says to do.  Itunes says it won't check for another update until 1/25/14.

Just what version of iTunes do you have on the computer? The current is 11.1.X. A Mac with OSX 10.4.11 can only get 9.X, with 10.5.8 only get 10.6.3, OSX 10,6,8 or later is required for 11.1
