Slideshow transitions iPhoto-FrontRow

Hi, I read about changing slideshow options to an album in iPhoto to make them apply also in Front Row. I tried that, i started an album slideshow in iPhoto and selected "Ken Burns effect" and "fade-out transition", but in Front Row if I play that album only the Ken Burns effect applies, pictures are displayed in sequence without any transition effect.
How can I set also a transition effect in Front Row?

You may need to create an actual "Slideshow" project in iPhoto rather than applying the settings to a regular album of pictures.

  • Slideshow Transitions in iPhoto 3 won't export to QuickTime

    Hello,
Would anyone be able to offer any suggestions/solutions to the problem I'm having with Slideshow transitions in iPhoto? I like the Cube transition, for example, and it appears on the screen when I tell iPhoto to play a slideshow that I am developing, but when I go to export same as a QuickTime movie, the transition in effect is Dissolve and not the specified Cube.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Sincerely,
    ByTheLIghtOfQuiveringAspensMade

Can you give us some additional information regarding your setup: model, RAM, hard drive size and free space, system version, QT version, and exact iPhoto version?
You will have to update to iPhoto 5 in order to be able to get other than the dissolve transition in your iPhoto QT slideshows.

  • Faulty slideshow transitions in iPhoto 5.0.4

Since upgrading to iPhoto 5.0.4 I am unable to successfully run any slideshow transitions except "Dissolve" on my PowerBook G4 17" with the 23" cinema display. ALL the transitions on my 20" FlatPanel work fine.
I have tried re-installing 5.0.4, restarting my computer, repairing permissions in Disc Utility, transferring my iPhoto Library from the 20" FlatPanel to the 17" PowerBook, all without success. I would appreciate any help or suggestions with grateful thanks.

An update... I've discovered that whenever "dissolve" or "fade to black" is played for any photo in the slide show, all others then default to "dissolve". To me, this is clearly a bug! For example, when I set the overall default to be "cube", and all photos set to "default (cube)", it plays fine. When I adjust just one photo to "dissolve", then cube plays for all photos up to that one, then all subsequent photos play "dissolve", and this even continues when the slide show auto-repeats (even thought the fist ones in the show first played "cube")!! I have to quite iPhoto and restart to get back the cube transition. If I set the one photo to "fade to black", a very similar behaviour... all photos after the "fade to black" photo play "dissolve" (yes! not fade to black, but DISSOLVE!) I spent a good amount of time with Apple this week, all the way up to a product specialist. The 2nd level tech support seems to think it's an iPhoto bug, somehow in the way it behaves on the G4 sawtooth. The product specialist was a bit more cagey, suggesting that no one has ever called in with this complaint, and blaming my processor upgrade (a Sonnet 1.2G which has never given me any problem). So... please call in if you have this problem and make your voice heard!!

  • Problems with slideshows in iPhoto version 9.6

How can I make slideshows in iPhoto without music? Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow. The music (not from my own library) is very loud and irritating. Other settings that I have made, for example transitions and display- time per photo, also change when the slideshow starts. It seems that the settings (Themes, Music and Settings) are not saved, and the computer make its own choice.
    I use iMac 2,9 GHz Intel Core i5 - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 - NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB - OS 10 Yosemite version 10.10.1.
    iTunes is version 9.6 (910.29).
I have recently updated my software.
    Any answer to my problems?
    Thank you.

Even if I do not make a check mark for music, music is played during the slideshow.
Did you press the "Choose" button, after you disabled the checkmark for music? Otherwise it will still be enabled.

  • Slideshow transitions

Does anyone know if third-party plug-ins are available for iPhoto slideshow transitions? Or, is there a way to edit the characteristics of an existing transition?
I was disappointed in the dissolve transition in iPhoto 5, in that the image brightness dims during the transition. This makes transitions between images that build on each other seem too obvious instead of allowing the new element to just fade into view (particularly noticeable when using a white background). This aspect appears unchanged in iPhoto 6.
I'd love to know if anyone else has been frustrated by this. Have you discovered a work-around, or is there another slideshow program that gives more control in this area but will still export to iDVD?

    Frederick:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Haven't seen any 3rd party transitions available for iPhoto. If you don't use Ken Burns effects you can build your slideshow right in iDVD by importing from an album in iPhoto and add your transition in iDVD. You will be limited to only 1 transition per slideshow the the image quality is generally superior to that of the slideshows created in iPhoto and exported to iDVD.

  • How to export a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5 without losing quality

    Hi
Would appreciate comments from the forum on how to best export a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5 without losing quality. I tried the highest quality option on the export menu but still noticed a signficant degradation in the quality of the slideshow in iPHoto vs the exported file.
I read some of the posts on earlier versions of iPhoto were the "Custom Export" could be used but understand this functionality has been removed from the latest version (iPhoto 9.5).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In iPhoto, when you play a slideshow it's showing you the actual photos.
After export , you're watching a movie made from these images. The process of exporting to a movie necessarily involves compression. Even HD export is still about 2 MP range. If you're shooting 6, 10, 12 or more MP images there is an inevitable loss of data. The enormous stills from your camera are being squeezed down into HDTV quality. It's even worse if you try export for a DVD. TV avoids this by not shooting such high quality images.
So, what you can try is use another app and one that has different algorithms for this process. Frankly, it'll be a process of trial and error to find the one that works best for your images.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold. It's worth a try, though it only has the same export options as iPhoto now. Older versions had more.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • Moving slideshow from Iphoto '11 to disc

I know how to send a slideshow to IDvd.  What I want to do is creat the slideshow in Iphoto '11 and then retain the music and transitions to play on a disc without having to recreate the show in IDvd. Is there any way to just burn the exact same show?

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • H.264 slideshow from iPhoto looks terrible in QT X

What is going on here? I just exported a slideshow from iPhoto '09 as 1280x720 h.264. Quen I play this with quicklook or with QT X it looks terrible. Colors are washed out and desaturated.
However, if I view it in QT 7 Pro on the same machine, the movie looks fine. Colors are bold and nice.
This file is going to play on another mac (not SL), how will it look there? Can anyone explain why this occurs?
    Thanks,
    -Ed

Yeah, with 400 slides, even without the video and music, you're going to have a large file any way you look at it. However, large isn't a BAD thing when you're looking at creating something for DVD since large usually = high quality = good for that purpose.
Let's ignore the final output for now and always export as small ( or medium, just enough to see that your timing is right) for your tests. Figure out between the Keynote presentation and the QuickTime movie what appears to be going on. Do you hear audio then a loooong pause before the next transition? Are your movies not displaying like you want them to? Both of these are caused by the differences between the way Keynote and QuickTime deals with media. In Keynote, if you want a movie clip to play for 4 seconds, you have to put in a 4 second delay for it. When you export this to QuickTime, QuickTime puts in the video PLUS adds the 4 second delay so that you'll have pauses where it looked like Keynote was synched better.
Make a copy of your presentation and, if you have any delays, remove all of them and re-export to see if that solves a few of your problems.

  • Slideshow in iPhoto - changing the theme for various slides to eliminate KB effect - doesn't "hold" through playback

I have made a couple of slideshows using iPhoto.  I used the Ken Burns effect as a theme (using my own music).  Many of the slides would not suit the KB effect (African animals) so I used the settings - change this slide to eliminate the KB effect for that slide - I also lengthened the duration that the slide played.  I found that the effect I wanted for the slides would be correct for the Preview, but then it would revert to the KB effect upon playing the slideshow.  Also, if I happened to move a slide to a different position, all the changes would have gone and I would have to repeat the exercise again!  Very time-consuming and frustrating.  Why won't the slides keep "their" instructions?  Also, I have had iPhoto crash a few times while I am making changes.
Can anyone help me sort this out?  I am presently exporting the latest slideshow to iTunes (and I've got my fingers crossed that all the changes I want are there)

NOt really. iPhoto is good for a quick and simple slideshow. For more complex work you need more powerful tools.

  • Better Slideshow from Iphoto or IDVD?

I have a project I'm working on. It's strictly going to be digital photos, but there are about 400 of them. IDVD can create the slideshow, but I can only fit 99 slides in each section. This means I have to make four different slideshow. Furthermore, IDVD will only apply one type of transition to each slideshow, not individual slides.
I can make a slideshow from Iphoto that fits all of the pictures and I can customize the transitions for each slide.
I'm just wondering which one provides a better quality slideshow. I understand that Iphoto has a few more options to work with, but slideshows can only be exported to small, medium, or large. Will there be a noticeable quality difference between the two programs?
    Thanks for any input..

I made the video 720X480 or 'large'.
This is actually the rectangular ('thin') NTSC DV video pixel size - in digital still image terms the real size is 640x480.
I've noticed, sacrificing a dvd to do so,
that the slideshow I made from iphoto fills the
entire screen while the one from idvd does not. I've
also noticed that some of the edges (nothing really
major) are cut off on my CRT TV.
CRT display devices (like TV sets) have something called 'ovescan' to hide the syncronization pulses included in the video signal.
iDVD gives you a choice of correcting for overscan if your DVDs will be viewed on TV sets (but on computer monitors, you will see black edges).
The video does not look as good as it could, but I
guess it is acceptable. I wonder if we'll have
higher quality options in the future release of IDVD?
Right now we are limited by the NTSC/PAL DV specification. As we all make the transition to HD, things should get a little better.

  • SLIDESHOW WITH IPHOTO

    HELLO,
IS IT POSSIBLE TO WRITE A SLIDESHOW iphoto directly by sending to IDV?
Is there another way to do it?
Thank you for your answer if you could solve the problem.
    Patrick.

just see using iPhoto it is not possible to burn a slideshow from Iphoto to IVD.
That's not true. Setup your slideshow as you want it in iPhoto with the music and transition that you want. Then, while in the slideshow mode, select Share->Send to iDVD. iPhoto will create a Quicktime movie of the slideshow, save it in the User/Library/Pictures/iPhoto Slideshow folder, open iDVD and add the QT movie to project. I just ran a test and it worked exactly as I described.

  • Slideshow Transition

    Aloha,
I've created a slideshow using approx. 45 photos from iphoto and 1 song. I set the transitions for each photo separately (instead of the default cross dissolve) to mix it up a little. I've noticed that every time I use page peel it turns the photo grey (appears as though a grey screen filter was placed on top of photo) right before the page peel transition begins. Kind of annoying, does anyone have a work-around, besides avoiding the page peel altogether?
    Much appreciated!

What did you put the Slideshow transition setting on? I think you the problem may be that you're selecting a photo folder and going directly to a photo. Once you select the folder of photos that you want to view as a slideshow, hit the play button on your iPod. It should then start the show.

  • How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try but it only lets me import 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow.

How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try, but it only exports 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow I made on iPhoto.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.
