Let me expand on this: I have 570 photos in a slide show and all are properly referenced in my library. In the slideshow window, I can see all the pics in the bottom box and when I run "preview slideshow", certain pictures don't appear in the top box whilst the curser moves across the picture in the bottom box. Likewise, if I run the full screen slideshow, that picture(s) does not appear (I have a blank screen); the next picture does show up, howerver... This happens with several dozen pictures, always the same, randomnley amongst the 570...

Hello Tony and thank you. I regenerated and rebuilt thumbnails; I deleted the slide show and rebuilt it; nothing works. Now, I noticed something weird. All pictures are in an Aperture project and are properly referenced as I said; all the pictures in this project come from a old iPhoto project where some of the pictures are in a "Modified" folder, others in an "Original" project; it is all the pictures in the "Original" project that don't show up in the slide show.... Do you have any idea what I should do?

Why do my photos not show for come projects?

I have an Aperture folder containing 9 projects and about 1500 photos. All photos appear when I click on the folder, but do not appear when I click on 7 of the 9 projects (they used to). Also the Info and Adjustment views are blank The photos appear for each of the 9 projects in iPhoto and the photo count shows the same number (with a few minor differences) in Aperture and iPhoto.
Any help would be appreciated. Would repairing the Library help?

I'm hitting a similar, rather scary bug in Aperture which I expect is behind your issue as well.
*** I've found that as soon as I drag a project in to or out of a folder in the library window, all the photos in that project disappear. ***
Aperture is somehow losing the link to the images when you drag the project somewhere. You can still see the images if you click on the folder (or indeed on the overall "Photos" item at the top of the library list) but not when you select the project itself.
You cannot drag the images from the folder into the old apparently empty project, I guess because Aperture thinks that's where they already are.
I did manage to recover things by creating a new project and dragging the images into there, then deleting the old project. But this bug means that I cannot organise my projects in any useful way - I have to leave them exactly where I created them.
Organising my library is now fraught with danger, so if anyone has found a solution to this I'm keen to hear it.
I'll keep working on it and try and find the cause and/or a fix.
I'm using Aperture 3.5.1 on a Mac Pro 2011 running 10.9.4. Library is stored on an SSD. Images are stored in the library file/package rather than referenced.

Try closing the camera app and the photos app, reset your iPad and then launch the photos app again. You will not lose any data when you reset the iPad this way.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Why are my photos not showing up under "Photos" in the "Library" section

I tried uploading photos from the new year, but they are only showing up under "last imported" and "last 12 months" etc... They won't show up under the "photos" section.. They stop on Dec. 31, 2013.. How do I get my pics from the new year to show up? (using iPhoto)

If the photos are in last import then they are in you library - last import is not a place - it is a view of photos in your library - you can also view these photos ine vents and in photos
The most common cause of your not finding them is an incorrect sort (view menu ==> sort photos) or incorrect date settings on your camera

I've been experiencing the same problem. Both new and old web journals do not display properly. Most photos are gray squares, but if I hit refresh I am sometimes able to partially view the album. This problem occurs both within iPhoto and in various web browsers.

My Photo Not Showing Up in Messages

My photo does not show beside my texts in Messages on my Mac. Only a shadow of a generic person in a rectangle is there. I can see the photos of others who write me, though. I have my photo in Contacts and it does show up in Mail, but not in Messages. My photo also shows up in IMessage on the iPad.
Why is my photo not showing up in Messages and how could I make it visible? Thanks.

Your Pic is set if you have Buddy list set up/logged in.
Enable the Bonjour account if you do not have Jabber, AIM or Yahoo IDs set up in Messages.
Click on the current Buddy Pic.
You may find it has pulled the Pic from the My Card in the Contacts app (Formerly the Address Book)
In turn this may be picking up on the System Preferences > User and Groups > your account Login pic.
That is to say when you set up the (Mac User) Account it asked you to create/chose a pic from the Login Screen.
Later the process of setting up an Accounts asked for details that create the Contacts/Address Book Card and the Login in pic is dragged across.
AS you then get to set up Messages (Or iChat) then the My Card pic is pulled through.
All three spots can be changed independently of each other.
Some of the Recent Items can be from either of the others.
This is my Buddy list pic and th "Recents" I have.
The Zebra and head in "teeth" pics are from some testing I did with Pics in the Contacts > My Card options rather than Messages.
Finally once you have a pic linked to Messages then it also show up at your end for the Chat window for iMessages (as well as for you in AIM or Jabber)
NOTE
In AIM and Jabber (Or Yahoo) your Pic is Broadcast and is what you Buddy sees next to your Name (They can override this though)
In iMessages though your pic is not sent and your Buddy's Contacts app supplies whatever pic they have for you. (As yours does for them)

Why does Local Folders not show up when I install Thunderbird on certain computers?

I've installed Thunderbird on my computer and it looks normal with "Local Folders" showing up in the left pane. I didn't add an email account, I just installed Thunderbird and an add-on called ImportExport tool and left it with only Local Folders. But when I try to do the same thing and install it on someone else's computer to help them import an .mbox file, when I install Thunderbird on their computer, "Local Folders" is not there. The left pane is just completely blank. And it looks like I can't import an .mbox file without it being there. I tried installing it on another laptop too and the same thing happened with no Local Folders. Why is "Local Folders" not showing up for these other two computers?

I circumvented the problem by copying the c:\users\username\appdata\local\thunderbird folder and the c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird folder from my working PC to the nonworking computers, and Local Folders appeared in Thunderbird on those computers. It seems like these files aren't being generated properly on installation.
I tried uninstalling Thunderbird from my working PC and reinstalling it again to see what would happen (after also deleting those two appdata folders so that fresh ones would be created), and this time Local Folders did not appear on my PC as well. I don't think I did anything different during installation either. So I'm not sure why the Local Folders are no longer being generated at installation.

Why do some photos not appear in the book I am creating?

I am composing two books at the moment and will want to order them shortly.
The problem I have is that, sometimes the photos do not appear when you drag them into the book - it just shows an exclamation mark. However if you look at the layout in the top section, it appears.
The photos not showing are either very high-res digital pictures from a professional photographer or scanned photos, but the scanned ones are of similar (OK) quality and identical resolution to others which are visible.
I am worried what will happen when I go to order the book - will these pictures not upload?
Does anyone know why this is happening or a fix?

sometimes the photos do not appear when you drag them into the book - it just shows an exclamation mark.
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Why are there numbers not showing up on my call and texts log when i look this up online at verizon? There is one number that my daughter texts and calls a lot i found from her phone log but not one time does it show when i look this up on the Verizon wireless call log??? We all have iphones is there an application or something that can block certain calls from showing up? It clearly has texts on her phone from this number why would it not be on the call log?

However, wouldn't an iMessage show up different than a text? It looks just like every other text on her phone. We all have iphones in this house and they always show up as texts on the call log but this one number seems to be blocked somehow from showing up on the text log. And there are texts from weeks ago and it's from an actual number not computer or any weird/odd code and yet it never comes across on the text log when i look it up.
If you are correct and it's coming across as iMessage is there a way for me to block texts coming across this way so they all show up on the text log?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I assume you have the Apple TV 1.
Often a restart of ALL your equipment will help, it may also be a result of instaling or updating security software (check your security settings).
If problems persist, navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
or
B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem

Certain characters not showing

I'm having a problem with certain characters not showing on Safari. Some websites are okay, but others, like Livejournal and babynames.com, only show about four characters per word. On some message boards, certain characters such as parentheses and capital L do not show up when I type them, but show up fine on the completed post.
What is going on? Do I need to download a new copy of Safari, switch to Firefox, or can this be fixed?

open messages. go to messages>preferences>accounts. select your icloud account from the left sidebar, and uncheck 'enable this account' then recheck 'enable this account'
you should also be using icloud to sync your contacts. sytem preferences>icloud. check the 'contacts' box

No, this is not the case. I know where i purchased the movie and I also know movies cant be added to the cloud such as music, TV shows can. The instance happened during the dowload. I think that depending which computer is up and running and the bandwith allocated on either network, which ever computer that finishes first is the one that gets the movie. Just a thought. So next time I will ensure my IMAC is not running. I think that fixes it.
