"Slideshow" with FullHD video

I have a video in FullHD (1920x1080p), which I copied to an external hard drive (firewire 400). On the computer installed latest version of Perian and VLC. The image is displayed on the external TV via DVI-HDMI cable.
When I try to play this movie I am seeing a "slideshow" instead of a movie. That is, the picture is moving very slowly, but the sound comes as it should be.
At the time of playback I have no background process. I tried to copy a film on the internal disk and got the same result.
Start a Apple Hardware Test - all components are normal, no errors there.
Also I tried to create a new user, and even reinstall the operating system, any effect it has not.
I ask for assistance, as well as buying a fairly powerful computer feel discomfort when playing movies.
Sorry for my english... I'm from Russia

If you are displaying images, video, and embedded web pages why not just use html web pages? assemble a mini Web site in other words.
No need for any special application to run them... pretty much every computer has some type of Web browser already built in... which would take care of the display part.
As for the embedded Web pages... are these coming from the Internet? or is this a real stand alone where the Web pages are static and stored in the same folders as your other content?
Once you assemble the slide show, you can F11 the browser (go full screen) so there are no address or tool bars showing and it will look like a neat, complete package deal!
I've done exactly that and also included invisible buttons so user can navigate to particular parts of the slideshow or video. Used in a lobby kiosk at a large hotel in town. With a wireless mouse the Front desk can select various parts of the slideshow if a guest is interested, or just let it run through from start to finish.
Very easy to update or add new material.... it's just a self contained Web site... not connected to the Internet.. although it could be if needed.
Best wishes,

  • How do you make a slideshow with pictures & videos?

ok, i'm new to mac & video editing. i want to make a slideshow with pictures & @ the end of it, i want to put in a clip from a home video. if i put the home video on a DVD, will i be able to edit it? i know i have to edit the video in imovie but where do i go from there? can i import it into iphoto & make the slideshow there? if so, how do i save the imovie project as the right file type so i can import it into iphoto? if i can't make it in iphoto, what program do i use? i want the slideshow to be able to be viewed on a PC also.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As already mentioned you'll need to use a 3rd party slideshow application or iMovie.
However, you can create a slideshow in iDVD with stills and a video clip as iDVD 7 (08) now permits both stills and movie clips to be placed in a slideshow. This screenshot shows multiple video clips in an iDVD slideshow but you can also have stills and video clips.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Apple TV slideshow with video and images

I want to make a "slideshow" with alternating video clips (from one movie) and pictures. Can I tell the movie to play for a certain amount of time and then switch to an image and then go back to the movie, repeating until the movie is over and then have the whole thing start over? Or can I use iMovie to break up the video and insert the image and make a movie to sync with the AppleTV? Is there an easy way to do this?

Try unplugging all cables for a few mins then try again, if no improvement it's almost certainly had it.

  • Need Help! Encore/PRPro 5.5 Slideshows w/ stills & videos: Best workflow/settings?

Warning! Rookie here--I apologize ahead of time for the forthcoming dumb questions!
Gear: 4 month old iMac, 12GB RAM, Lion. CS5.5 Master Collection.
    First, my goals:
*Take 4-500 large DSLR stills (shot in 24MB RAW and JPEGs from 6-17 or so MBs with some Sony panorama shots sprinkled in) and 20 AVCHD/Sony HD videos (only 10 to 30 seconds long and labeled as ".MTS" files) and create a slideshow with the videos interspersed among the stills.
    *No audio, manual advance.
*Create high quality file from Blu-Ray setting for playback over Apple TV from iMac or iPad 3 to LED HDTV (1920 x 1080, I believe).
I've watched Lynda.com's tutorials regarding Encore CS.5 the past few days (watched the Premiere Pro course a while back for just a very short video DVD and I did OK--but no stills/no slideshow), but I'm quite confused and frustrated. For example, I tried to import the stills as assets and got an error message saying I didn't have the right software, leading to having to hit "return" for a few hundred error messages!
After lots of google searches and searching this forum, I surmised my files sizes are too large. OK, but that's about as far as I got for this stage. Then I saw Bill Hunt's article on workflow and about converting all stills to .psd files, so that may be next...?
But I would really like somebody to walk me through things that are still confusing given I am not familiar with all the terminology and things such as pixel/frame sizes etc.
Given my goals, what would be the best workflow/course of action? I don't need every detail given that I have the Lynda.com tutorials, e.g., I have some menus set up from a background image with text that I made in Photoshop and I get the linking procedure for creating buttons that work once the image is a item in Encore.
The main questions, I guess are:
    1. What should I do with with my stills to get them into Encore? Should I do as Bill says and make them .psd files? How do I then get Encore to accept them as assets? I'm really confused about the sizes to use during conversion--4:3 vs. 16:9 and/or 720 vs. 480 vs. HD sizes (1000 x 750?!). I gather this should be done in Photoshop, but not clear how, exactly. (My head's about to explode reading up on file types, sizes, pixels, for the slideshows with stills and videos blah, blah, blah....).
    2. How do I get my short videos into Encore? Do I create a timeline in Premiere Pro first? Should I create a timeline or sequence with both stills and videos in Premiere Pro and use the import sequence feature into Encore?
    3. Where are the stills and videos best interspersed--Encore or PRPro?
    4. Given Encore will only create slideshows of 99 stills, once I create multiple slideshows in the project panel, am I correct that I link to the second, third, etc. slideshows with "end actions" and the viewer will see a seamless transition? I plan on using some chapters for different sections of a 10 day vacation, so will there be any conflict with the multiple slideshow transitions?
Thanks so much for your help! This trip was a dream come true as I hadn't had a vacation in 12 years and I was finally able to take my now teenage boys on a proper wilderness adventure a few weeks ago! I would really like to be able to show everyone a nice slideshow and eventually give the boys a Blue-ray disc they will always have as a keepsake etc. In other words, lots of emotion wrapped up in this one.....thanks again!

    1. Your images are square pixels, Blu-ray (BD) is square pixels, keep your images square pixels when you resize them.  That means a Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of 1.0.  Fortunately, PS defaults to square pixels.  As for the frame size, the video will be the limiting factor if you want it interspersed with the stills.  Determine the frame size and frame rate of the video that was shot and use that as the basis for resizing your stills.  If you don't plan on doing any panning/zooming, then you resize your stills to match the video frame size (1920x1080 or 1280x720 are the likely choices).  If you plan on mild panning/zooming, then increase the size of the resized stills by roughly 30% in both dimensions.  More dramatic panning/zooming will require a larger increase in frame size; just don't go over 4000 pixels in either dimension.  And remember that video work makes any DPI or PPI value irrelevant.  The video frame size is exactly what it is, in pixels.  No more, no less.
    2. and 3. If you want video mixed in with stills, then you'll have to put them all together in a Premiere Pro timeline before sending them to Encore.  Unfortunately, that makes the manual advance feature you want problematic.  It can be done, sort of, but it probably won't work the way you expect.
    4. If you use Pr to create your stills/video timeline, there is no 99 slide limit.  Make the Pr timeline seamless and it will remain seamless in En.  If you do a slideshow in En, then moving from one 99-still slideshow to another will not be seamless.
NB: the key to your project will be planning.  Take and old-fashioned pencil and paper and layout how you want the audience to view the finished BD.  Do you want just the main program?  Do you want quick and dirty slideshows of just still images that they can access by menu?  And so on.  You can make *almost* any navigation scenario work in En, but you need to know beforehand how you want the audience to get from here to there and back again.

Hi... I am looking for an inexpensive app for my macbook pro that I can put pictures and videos together into a slideshow with captions and music WITHOUT a watermark and that also will burn the slideshow to a DVD in its own app. Help?

The issue with the A1400 is that like most economy compact cameras, they will not have very fast focus times in indoor lighting situations. Many people have gone to entry level DSLR's (Canon T3i) or micro 4/3 cameras. They are fairly expensive, but a late model refurbished T3i can sometimes be found with a kit lens for about $300.00. With Auto and scene modes, as well as full manual modes, these are very versatile cameras that focus very quickly, even in lower lighting situations. Canon is not really into the micro 4/3 cameras, instead they are focusing on the new G7x and G1x cameras, which are way out of your price range. The A720 is still available used at some places such as KEH camera, but you'll need to check often as their stock changes constantly. Obviously the DSLR's don't use AA batteries, but the T3i is good for about 600 photos (or more) per charge.
My refurbished DSLR was practically brand new condition when I got it. I could not find any sign of wear at all, so I feel they are a real bargain. These are rugged cameras that are made to last. The A1400 is a $99.00 camera, so it's not intended for heavy usage, plus the image quality of a DSLR (even entry level) is far better than the A1400. That would be my recommendation.

  • Firefox is hanging when the page scrolls down to a html5 video or the page to a slideshow with fade effect

Every time a page has a html5 video or a slideshow with fade effect Firefox 3.6 becomes terriblely slow. It freezes with this test: http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/
I have Fedora 14 and before that Fedora 13 and the problem happens with both.
The same doesn't happen on Opera or Google Chrome.
'''UPDATE 1''': I have already tryed the Safe Mode and the problem happens the same.
'''UPDATE 2:''' This page full of videos scroll smothly without any problemas: http://brettgaylor.tumblr.com/tagged/webmademovies

I forgot to say that I did tryed the Safe Mode just to see if the slow was not being caused by some extension or plugin. However the result was all the same. By the way, the slow happens even if there is only one page opened. I am not thinking it is something related to the ATI video card or even Fedora because the same slow does't happen in Chrome and Opera...

  • Slideshow with Videos and Pictures

    Hi!
I am trying to make a slideshow with photos and various short videos interspersed among the photos. I have a customized playlist for the slideshow so that there is music playing when the photos are being shown. My problem is that the music continues to play when the videos are playing which interferes with the audio in the video. Is there anyway to get the music to pause whenever there is a video playing?
    Thanks!

Is there anyway to get the music to pause whenever there is a video playing?
Not in iPhoto, afaik. I Aperture it would be easy.
As a work-around you could use GarageBand to create a custom sound track that's fade in and out when your videos are shown, assuming you have the complete iLife package installed.
    Export your Slideshow as movie.
To edit your sound track in GarageBand add the song files to the time line and arrange them,
Drag the slideshow movie to the Timeline, to see the positions of the videos and to help to get the timing right.
    Delete the movie soundtrack.
Then show the master track (cmd-B) and enable the master volume.
Adjust the master volume curve to fade out the sound when you want silence.
Delete the movie track and share the sound track to iTunes.
Then add this track to the slideshow.

  • Slideshow with video

I've created a slideshow with video and photos. In plays back fine within Aperture. When I connect a projector (mini display port to vga at 1024x768), the photos play fine but the video skips. It plays fine if I esport the slide show and then play it with the monitor. Video is 1920.
Since I'm doing this at a wedding and time is short, I'm trying not to export the slideshow.
Can I make this work without exporting?

Are you at the wedding now? I guess you going to taking shots and video and trying to put something together that you can show while at the wedding? You must like pressure
How are you showing the video through the projector? USing the secondary viewer settings in Aperture or just mirroring your laptops screen via the OS?
Whichever one your using try the other. To be honest this may be a tough thing to troubleshoot you may have to just do the export. Think of something to entertain them with while the Aperture exports.

  • Looping Slideshow with Videos. How please?

    Hi
I just downloaded Keynote 09 as 08 did not support 1920x1080 Res. I'm pretty au-fait with Keynote but I'm a bit stuck with something.
I'm trying to create a looping slideshow with images and text and also videos. I want the slide show to just run on it's own without any clicking of buttons at all
The problem I have is that when I click play, the Presentation starts off fine, and shows the first few pages with static images and text, but when it gets to the pages with Video on, it plays the video for five seconds then moves on to the next slide, I don't want the slides with Videos on to move to the next one until the video has finished, how can I do this? I've looked at "recording a slideshow" but have been unable to fathom how that helps.
An answer would be much appreciated.
    Thank You.

A few different ways about this. You could split the slide show into smaller sections that are withi the limits for posting and then post each section.
You could try a different encoding to make the file smaller. What settings did you use when you created and exported the slide show?

  • Will  an iPhoto slideshow with music work on all computers in China?

I am making a promotional DVD for an education program in the US, and taking it to China to education fairs. If it is an iPhoto slideshow with music, will it work on all Chinese computers? I assume so, because since it is not video, I should not have to worry about different formats-right? I've got enough to worry about on this trip!
    Prof. Fisher

On every single computer in China? Impossible to tell. But if you create a slideshow in iPhoto and send it to iDVD to be burned to a DVD then it will play on anything that plays DVD.

  • Can I convert a pdf slideshow with narrative to a movie file?  Using Pro version 8

I am working with a template software (Vacation Bible School) where I insert pictures and at the end, it plays a slideshow with narrative (already in the template) when you open it up and hit the spacebar.  it works fine, but there are 5 different files and the company we got the template/pdf files from suggest for presentation purposes, I should just open up each file individually and start the slide show.  it seems kind of clumsy having to open up each file individually, play it, close it and then go to the next file.  It would be great if I could capture the slideshow as a movie file, then combine all 5 movie files into one file that can be played on a CD player (I use Sony Vegas studio and Nero software for this).  I am using Acrobat Pro version 8.  Any suggestions?

It can't be done in Acrobat.
I just did a Google search on "pdf slideshow to video" and saw a couple of third party products that claim to be able to do it. I have never had a need for that, and can't claim how well they work.

  • Slideshow with Music - Viewing Options

I created a Slideshow with vacation photos, etc. on my basic mini with DVD read/CD read-write capabilities. From what I can get from Photo Help, I can burn pictures to a CD and I can burn songs to a CD but I cannot burn a Slideshow to a CD to send to others to play on a Windows PC.
Is this a done deal, or is there some procedure I can't find that a;;ows me to do this??
Also, on the same topic, does anyone know if a Slideshow from Photo can be transferred to those Digital Picture Frames that say "Slideshow capable" in their advertising??
Thanks for any insights on these features!! John

You can get a slideshow to a "Video CD" but you can't do that with the software that Apple gave you. Most current DVD players can also play a "Video CD" and I would guess a Windows PC can, but I'm not sure if they'd need additional software or not.
Roxio Toast 8 Titanium will allow you to convert many types of QuickTime files to a Video CD. I'm guessing you were using iPhoto to make your slide show? (You didn't say specifically.) If this is the case, you can export your slideshow to iDVD. This will put a movie file of your slide show in your user's "Movies" folder. You can skip the iDVD part and then use Toast to burn your movie to a Video CD.
Toast also gives you the option of creating a slideshow CD of its own. This CD will include a video player for both Mac and Windows.
We'd have to know exactly which model digital picture frame you're asking about, but chances are you'd be able to export a set of pictures from iPhoto and save them onto some kind of memory card or stick. You might need to buy a card-reader for your Mac, but most of those devices just use JPEGs like the ones in your iPhoto. You'd probably want to export the pictures so they were just the right size for the screen on the frame.

  • Creating DVD from iPhoto Slideshow with music

I'm trying to create a DVD of a slideshow with music that was created previously in iPhoto and then "Shared with iDVD". The .m4v file located in Pictures> iPhoto Slideshows is not accessible in iDVD. The only way I can make it work is to spend the hour or so required to start from scratch by clicking "Share with iDVD" from an open iPhoto slideshow, thus creating a .m4v file and then going directly to the iDVD menu that's automatically opened at the end of the "Share with iDVD" process. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forums.
When I'm going from iPhoto to iDVD with a slideshow, I get good results by Exporting from iPhoto to a large-sized Quicktime movie. I can preview the video and music, and if I'm happy, I can then just drop the Quicktime file onto the iDVD menu area (not into a drop zone, that's just eye candy). It's been a reliable process for me.

  • Slideshow with high quality

I have a Photography Studio and I am trying to create client slideshows that display in very high quality. If I view the slideshow as created on iPhoto, the output is fantastic. If I burn a disc with iDVD (even on "Best Quality") the images as viewed from the DVD are not great. They become a little jaggy and some color shifting is evident. Not horrible, just not professional looking. My files are high quality .psd files. I have tried the process with high quality .jpg files, too.
Is the answer a PRO level DVD compression product? Voodoo????
I am at my wits end, but it was a short trip to get there.
Thanks for any and all help,
    Louie

    Hi,
I understand you want to create a DVD, right? Before you know how to get the best quality, you must choose what software to use . You can build slideshows using just DVD Studio Pro (DVDSP Folrum) and/or in a video timeline with FinalCutPro (FCP Forum).
Each soft need a different approach ! You'll find a lot of posts with useful information in that forums and you can post your own when you decide what tool use for your project.
If you want to build simple slideshows with just a transition or no transition at all, where the people can choose next prev and so picture, you can use DVDSP.
If you want a more sofisticated presentation where you can control completly adnvanced trasitions and zoom/pan effects, you need to create it in a video application like FCP.
You posted this question in Compressor forum, what is a tool for transcoding your video footage to, i.e. MPEG2 files to include in DVDSP.
About quality, think that Standard Definition DVDs have a resolution of 720x480 pixels (NTSC) what probably is absolutly low resolution compared with your original pictures, but doesn't mean your pictures will look bad. Any comercial movie DVD you watch has that resolution ! The advantage is that every DVD player (computer and stan alone ones) will be able to play it.
When you mention the iPhoto slideshow, I think you mean a slideshow you played directly from your computer what is a completly different approach that DVD.
I just want to give a start point.
