Slideshow without .Mac

Is there any way I can make a slideshow without using .Mac?
I need to have my own domain name, and .Mac doesn't allow that, so it isn't an option. However, I also would like to have some pictures in a slideshow.
Thanks!

You get a slideshow with the photo page template either way, its just a different slideshow format.
Here are some alternatives for non-.Mac:

Saving as a PDF file for some users have been a problem.  If you boot into  Safe Mode and run iPhoto you can create undamaged PDF files.  We don't know why the problem but this is a workaround.
This problem prevents many from ordering books, calendars and cards since iPhoto creates PDF file of them for uploading and printing.  Booting into Safe Mode lets them successfully order those items.

  • For those using iWeb without .mac

If you don't like the slideshow offered by iWeb when you don't publish to .mac, cheer up because there is a way to replace it.
iWeb dumps a folder called "SlideShow_assets" into your published folder. You can replace that with whatever favorite javascript or flash slideshow package you want, it just needs to get the image urls info and current slide index from the opening photo page.
I kinda like http://www.couloir.org/js_slideshow/ which is open source under the Creative Commons 'Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0' License. I adapted it to work with iWeb. Here's an example:
    http://www.codemanic.com/iweb/Europe/La%20fotografia.html
You can use the same if you like, download here:
    http://www.codemanic.com/iweb/SlideShow_assets.tar.gz
Whenever you publish with iWeb, replace the SlideShow_assets folder provided by iWeb with this one.

Can I use this slideshow if I DO publish to .mac? I
    couldn't find a "SlideShow_assets" folder, but I did
    find a SlidShow_assets.html file which I replaced,
    but that didn't work.
I don't think so. I don't have a .mac account so I cannot test (my trial period already expired too ). I looked at other people's .mac slideshows to spy how it works and the slideshow for .mac is slightly different. slideshow.html already has a js context with the images array, it doesn't take them from the opener context. So it's harder to just override the file. The code is a little different but I'm sure it could be modified to work... (unfortunately I don't have time to pursue this, so I'm not volunteering, sorry).

  • Can I use iSync between Address B and my mobile without .Mac?

Can I use iSync between Address B and my mobile without .Mac?

Yes, if you have an iSync supported phone.
    For 10.4+ see here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
plus all the models supported by Phone Plugins from here and here.
However, for your 10.3.9 Mac, your choices are severely limited:

  • Syncing ical across multiple computers without .mac

    Hi,
Is it possible to sync ical calendars across multiple computers in the same network or over the internet without .Mac? If I have a website or ftp server, can I use that instead to synce over the internet or is there an easier way? Thanks.

    This is another related question.
Having at last extracted a decade of diaries from Palm Desktop as vCal (since you ask I had to go back to Classic as the app quit without writing the export file in Tiger and Leopard, even tho it is otherwise OK) I now have something I can import rather messily into iCal.
However as I have really bad internet access in the Boondocks where I live I don't want to use .Mac to sync between my iMac and iBook. Palm ran very happily from a thumb drive, but I don't see how I can do it as the powers that be seem to have made the data file invisible.
I'd like to move it to the thumb drive and have an alias on each Mac where the data should be - as I do with Palm.
Does anyone know the path, and if there is a problem doing it between Tiger and Leopard?
    Cheers, Colin

  • Syncing iCal calendars without .Mac

My wife has two computers, desktop and laptop. She would like to be able to sync her calendars, one from each machine. Is this possible without .Mac membership. If so, could someone please tell me how it's done?
I do have a .Mac membership. Is it legal for her to publish her calendars to my .Mac and then subscribe to them so they'd show up on her two machines.
Any help at all with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Martin,
Try iSynCal: iSynCal is built to synchronize events and todo from iCal calendars between two or more Mac computers using the standard Apple File Sharing shipped with Mac OSX. Using iSynCal, you no longer need a .Mac account neither to publish your calendars on an external FTP or WebDav server.
You can even use iSynCal to sync your iCal calendars with your iPod or between multiple users on the same Mac.Regarding your second question, legality is not the issue, since the .Mac account belongs to your username, only you can publish calendars to that account.

  • Slideshow on Blog page without .mac?

    Hi there,
My wife wants to publish some pictures of our son online for friends and family. Since the pictres will be updated from time to time with some commentaries, I prefer to make a blog.
Unfortunately there is no option to have a slideshow on a blog page. I would like to have the iWeb-Slideshow on the blog page. Of course I could link to a page with a slideshow - but then it doesn't make sense to use a blog anymore.
Is there a way of having the iWeb-slideshow on my blog page without a .mac-subscription?

    panamax:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I know an alternative but not a solution involving iWeb. The alternative is to post the photos to Twango.com. Specific viewers can be authorized to add comments to photos. The site also lets you embed slideshows or stock market ticker moving displays in pages this. Not nearly as elegant as what iWeb can do, however, but quick to put up and easy to use. I use both iWeb and Twango to get my photos out to friends and family.

  • Moving and editing slideshow between MACs

I'd like to move an existing (uncompleted) slideshow from an iMac to a Mac Book Pro and complete the project on-site (a wedding reception). What is the best technique to complete this without messing with the hours of work that have gone into the project thus far??

There's only one way to do it: Move the Library that contains the slideshow.
A Slideshow is really an instruction in the iPhoto database: "Show me Photo A for 5 seconds then cross fade to Photo B over 3 seconds and show me for 5 seconds etc etc etc"
The only way to move the slideshow +in an editable form+ is to move the database - and that database is the Library.

  • Can I burn a slideshow without music?

I created a simple slideshow in iPhoto, and it doesn't contain music (my choice). Now I want to use iDVD to burn it, but I can't seem to find a way to burn it without there being music attached. Is there a way to burn this project without a soundtrack?
My workaround is to import the .mov generated from iPhoto into Final Cut, render it, and export it for iDVD -- but is there an easier way? It's a pretty lengthy slideshow (~30 minutes), and my Mac is more than capable of doing it, but I feel like there just has to be a different way.
    TIA.

we read reports a while ago, that projects without any audio could force iDVD to behave odd (=endless encoding/freeze....)
the workaorund for that was, to create a 'silent' audio clip...
use any audio app (Garageband, Audacity, ....) to create 30secs of 'nil' ... silence, zero, nada...
use this .aiff to underlay your slideshow...

  • Very choppy playback of slideshows on Mac

I apologize if this is already answered somewhere. I searched but couldn't find this problem.
I created a project in iDVD 6 consisting of a single menu with several slideshows using one of the included themes. After burning to a DVD-R media on my first generation MacBook Pro, the disk won't play back correct either on my computer or the Mac Mini in our house. It did play on the standalone DVD player.
On the computers, it proceeds very, very, very slow and choppy, while you can hear the DVD drive head constantly moving and pumping rapidly. I re-burned it several times on different brands of DVDs, all with the same result. I also created a disk image and burned it through Disk Utility at a slow speed, again with the same result. The iDVD settings are 4:3 ration, NTSC and "Best Performance" (although one time I tried "best quality" with the same result.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    -Tom

Yes. I have also discovered since my last post that if I stop the DVD, wait until the drive stops reading without ejecting it, and then restart the DVD, it works fine. And yet it does this same thing every time. I've tried changing the theme and certain aspects of the main menu and re-burning it. I've tried burning it through Disk Utility. I have tried different brands of DVD's. And the playback problem happens when I play one of the burned DVDs on any of the three macs in our house. And in each case, if I stop it, wait and restart it, it works fine.
    Odd.

  • Is there a way to make the audio play continuously so that the same song play during the intro and slideshows without stopping and restarting?

Recently returned from vacation and wish to make a dcd slidshow with the same music all the way through without it stopping and starting with each new event slideshow.  Can this be done?

    No.

  • FYI - Windows 8 and MacBook Pro without Mac OS

    For those that are interested.
So have a 3-4 year old macbook pro (15 in) upgraded memory to 4 gig (at the time the place that did it found out I had the defective nvidia chip that apple never told me about-  thanks apple support and extendened warrant departments. Always  wondered why I had these random crashes. None since they replaced the graphics board.)
So 2 years ago with XP on boot camp  I upgraded to Win 7. When I couldn't change the size of the partition  using one of the products availabe to increase boot camp partiotion sizes after upgrading to Win 7 I just reninstalled Win 7 alone without boot camp.
Just popped in the Win 7 disc and installed Win 7 without using boot camp. Then used the Mac OSX disk for the drivers. No problems. Have updated the nvidia drivers directly from nvidia several times.Again no problems.
Basically have a Windows PC at 3 times the price of a something from Office Depot.
Last week installed Win 8 via download and everything is running perfectly.
As for Win 8 much faster than Win 7 and most importantly I have the same interface across my all my PCs, Phone and Tablet (as an aside Surface is great.)

To get the drivers to work on Windows 8 Pro:
    1)  Download the Drivers using the Boot Camp utility on the Mac and choose to burn the disk.
    2)  Then install Windows 8 Pro on the bootcamp partition.
    3)  Once the installation is done, insert the Boot Camp disk, and do not run the setup just yet.  Navigate to the disc and view the files on it. RIght-click on setup and click on Properties.  Then click on the Compatability tab.  Place a check in the box that says Run this program in compatability mode for, and in the drop down box select Windows 7. Then click ok to close out of the Properties windows and run the setup as usual to install the drivers.
I have used the above steps to successfully install Windows 8 Pro 64-bit on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp and have not had any issues at all. All the drivers work fine.  The only thing that does not work is the on-screen indicator.  For example if you change the display brightness using the function keys, you don't get the screen brightness indicator to come up, or when you eject a disk from the Super Drive, you don't get the on-screen indicator to come up.  The functions all work, you simply don't get the indicator to come up on the screen.  Other than that, all works fine.

  • How to export slideshow without losing resolution?

I've used Macs for years, but I'm now having my first experiences with iLife. I've found similar questions to this one discussed here, but not exactly this question, I think.
I have created a slideshow in iPhoto, complete with painstakingly set up Ken Burns effects timed to coincide with transition points in the music that accompanies the slide show.
I would now like to send the slide show to a friend, in some way so that the friend can view it in very high resolution, just like I can, and maintaining the timing of slides to music.
How can I do this? Exporting the slideshow as a .mov was a huge disappointment. Iphoto 6 only offers three resolution settings, and even the highest is much too low. Also, the timing got messed up in the .mov -- the slides advance too fast for the music.
I tried Share->Send to iDVD, to see how that would work, but that failed entirely. I got an error message saying "the export movie file could not be created." Some day I'd like to figure out how to fix that problem, but it's only a high (i.e. pre-Christmas) priority if it's necessary to get my friend the slideshow.
So what should I do? Will I need to re-make the entire slideshow in another application? That would take me a lot of time, and also I'm concerned about the level of editing control that I'd have in applications other than iPhoto. It looks like that would give me more control over exact duration of each picture, but less control over exactly how the Ken Burns effect pans and zooms over each picture, which is important to me. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Medhead:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The largest you can get any slideshow will be the size sent to iDVD, 720 x 540. If you create it in iMovie and export as Full Quality that will be the same. If you select Expert Settings you can select the H.264 compression with Best Quality compressions and multipass for best quality.
The best quality slideshows, IMO, is to create them in iDVD from imported stills. You are restricted to just one transition for the slideshow, no KB effect but can add titles or subtitles to selected slides.
The slideshows I've created this way and burned play on my plasma HD tv with great sharpness and clarity. Again its my preference to go this route to have the better image quality. Also with this method it's a true slideshow where the viewer can go backward slide by slide with just one click. No rewinding of the movie like with a regular movie file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
