Slideshows from jpg

what's the best route to take to create a slideshow with music (then burn to a dvd) that looks really good on a tv set?
i have discovered you can use imovie to create a movie of still photos and then export that to idvd. or you can just use idvd to create a slideshow. or you can import a slideshow created in iphoto to idvd.
which is the best way to go for top picture quality on a tv?
which method do you use?

OK, this can of worms is opened again...
I prefer to use Photo To Movie for slideshows because IMO it has the best quality. See also:

• Interactive slideshow with JPGs

Hi Flash experts,
I have to build a Flash project. The challenges are:
1. Preload 5 JPG images onto a movieclip container
2. Produce a slideshow which loads the 5 external JPGs
3. Autoplay and transition between pictures
4. Have 5 buttons to go straight to the relevant image on the
slideshow and
smart enough continue playing the slideshow from that point
5. A clickable area within the slideshow image to display the
larger version
of the image (can use emptymovieclip actionscript function)
6. When user click to open the large version of the image,
the
transition/autoplay should pause and continue when it closes
I have done the first 3.5 points of the challenge but stuck
on the rest. If
anyone can suggest or direct me with an approach or example
to solve this
challenge that would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Jay

That QT button behavior won't do what you want. It does a lot different things but its not designed to move one frame forward or back. A behavior like this wil do the job. Depending on your QT movie, you may need to adjust the number of frames that are moved each time the button is used. This is the next frame behavior:
property QTSprite
property thisDuration
property thisMember
property customCursor
property thisSprite
on getPropertyDescriptionList
myPropList = [:]
myPropList.addProp(#QTSprite,[#comment:"enter the Quicktime sprite number:",#format:#integer,#default:""])
myPropList.addProp(#customCursor,[#comment:"pick a cursor:",#format:#cursor,#default:280])
return myPropList
end
on beginSprite me
thisSprite = me.spriteNum
thisMember = sprite(QTSprite).member
thisDuration = thisMember.duration
sprite(thisSprite).cursor = customCursor
end
on endSprite me
sprite(thisSprite).cursor = 0
end
on mouseUp me
if sprite(QTSprite).movieTime < thisDuration then
sprite(QTSprite).movieTime = sprite(QTSprite).movieTime + 1
end if
end
and this is the previous button behavior:
property QTSprite
property thisMember
property customCursor
property thisSprite
on getPropertyDescriptionList
myPropList = [:]
myPropList.addProp(#QTSprite,[#comment:"enter the Quicktime sprite number:",#format:#integer,#default:""])
myPropList.addProp(#customCursor,[#comment:"pick a cursor:",#format:#cursor,#default:280])
return myPropList
end
on beginSprite me
thisSprite = me.spriteNum
thisMember = sprite(QTSprite).member
sprite(thisSprite).cursor = customCursor
end
on endSprite me
sprite(thisSprite).cursor = 0
end
on mouseUp me
if sprite(QTSprite).movieTime > 1 then
sprite(QTSprite).movieTime = sprite(QTSprite).movieTime - 1
end if
end
Try these and see if they work for you.

• Slideshow from iPhoto 6 book

Hi,
I see with iPhoto 6 you can "play" a slideshow from an iPhoto book (i.e. play a slideshow of the iPhoto book pages).
Is there any way to create a slideshow (i.e. have it saved as a slideshow in the source list) from an iPhoto bok that you can save and/or export to iDVD?
--Linda

Linda:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes there is but you need to be running Tiger to do it automatically. But you can do it manually as follows:
1 - while in the book mode type Command-P (print)
2 - Click on the PDF button and select Print to PDF.
3 - open the PDF and for each page do an File->Save As and select Format: JPG and Quality: best.
4 - put the jpgs in a folder on the desktop and import into iPhoto or into a slideshow window in iDVD.
With Tiger the process is as follows:
When in the book type Command-P as if you're going to print the book. Then in the print window select "Save PDF to iPhoto" in the PDF menu. That will create a jpg image of each page and safe it to the library.
NOTE: The window to select or create an album for saving the pages to will not come to the front so you'll need to hide all windows during the process so you'll see the window. The first time I tried it I thought it didn't work so went on my way. When I finally closed down for the day I found that window.
It's an automator script that does the job. If it doesn't work for you I've placed a new automator workflow that does work in Mr. Toad's Cellar. Download and unstuff it and place in your HD/Library/PDF Services folder, replacing the one that doesn't work.

• PDF Slideshow to JPG

I have created several PDF slideshows in PE9 and they play back nicely on the computer. I would like to convert these slideshows to JPG files, so that they can be burned to DVD's. I tried the batch process in PE9, but it did not work. It only converted page 1. Does anybody know of a software program that will do this? My budget is around $50 max. That of course leaves out photoshop and acrobat. Thanks

What Windows operating system are you running ?
IF you saved the original PSE slide show project,
-- there may be alternatives to burn a standard definiton DVD within the software that you currently have.. If you have a high def TV, then you could consider playing that DVD with an upscaling DVD player.
-- if you have a TV player that can play the WMV format, then you can output from the PSE slide show editor as a WMV file.
However, if you are determined to use the JPEG format,
-- then I think that you may need to start over using the Photoshop Elements editor and adding the text to copies of your photo files. If you do have the slideshow project saved, then you could potentially try a copy and paste from the slide show editor to the to Text tool of the PSE Editor.
OR
-- look at the Adobe Reader and see if it has any functions to extract the individual photos from the PDF file. If yes, then the captions might be present in the resulting jpeg images.

• Can't save slideshow of jpgs

I'm trying to create a slideshow of jpg images. I've followed the instructions and numbered the images and saved them to a folder. But after I've opned the first file and set the frame rate, QuickTime won't let me save the sequence.
Any suggestions?

when I download photos from a card I use a card reader and image capture. I download to a new folder on the desktop, and then drag the folder to one of many aux hard drives. If I am going to work on the photos now I just leave the folder on the desk top until I finish with it. I look at iphoto as an unnecessary step and avoid using it. I keep all photos in aux hard drives to avoid using hard drive space.

• Importing slideshow from iMovie 09

I don't know if it is a brain cramp or what, but I am having difficulty importing my slideshow from iMovie 09 into iDVD. I carry out all of the steps when in iMovie and then when I go to the media tab, my movie is not there. Can someone please help???

This is actually quite simple. I'm assuming you want it on a DVD? To do this go into iMovie and got to your slideshow. Click the Share tab and then iDVD. This brings up iDVD and you go on and create your main menu and burn a disc.

How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09. I try, but it only exports 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow I made on iPhoto.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

• I've burnt a slideshow of my photos onto a DVD disc but it will not play on my DVD player. It plays ok on my acer laptop. I burnt the same disc with slideshow from my old dell computer

I've burnt a slideshow of my photos on my Apple Mac to a DVD+REW disc but it will not play on my DVD player or on a combined DVD/TV. However it will play on my wife's Acer laptop. I then erased the disc & burned another slideshow from my ancient Dell computer onto the same disc &it played just fine on everything. So it seems the problem ids somewhere in the Apple Mac process. Any ideas?

If you want to play material on a dedicated DVD Video hardware player, you must create a DVD video disc, and you must use a DVD authoring application.The software creates files that the DVD video player can play and will burn them to a recordable DVD disc. Examples of applications are:
Roxio Toast and iSky DVD Creator
Mac's used to be supplied with iDVD authoring software but Apple discontinued it in 2011.
Thanks for that. Will need to check iSkysoft out. I am in the process of looking for a VisualHub replacement/backup. Especially when it comes to ease of use. Toast is ok. Just looking for something along the lines of VH.

• Problem printing PDF picture files imported from JPG using HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer

When I print PDF picture files imported from JPG using an HP Colour InkJet cp1700 printer, the picture spills over. A wide range of other PDF files print OK. Have tried things such as configuring the printer to scale to letter size, etc,, but without success. Have a Windows 7 64 bit computer and Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.5.5. Any ideas?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @rt70
I understand you're having some issues with printing PDF files from a website on Windows 7.
I would personally suggest trying to print from that website using a different web browser. If you're using Internet Explorer, try FireFox or Chrome, for example.
You can also try running the Print and Scan Doctor tool, that will search and try and fix printing issues.
If you have any issues that continue, please let me know what they are and which programs, websites, and web browsers you have tried, along with the results from running the diagnostic tool above.
Good luck and have a great day

• DNG Profile Editor: Can't create profile from JPG file

Guys, could you tell me why DNG Profile Editor fails to create color table using 4 colored circles ? It says "Unable to check white balance using gray patches. Please use the four color circles to identify the four corner patches of the chart and try again" even though I places four circles properly (it works with DNG files shot with my Nikon D700).
I created this DNG file from JPG file by opening it in Camera Raw plugin and saving as DNG file. Original JPG was shot on camera of Samsun Galaxy S phone. I know I'm crazy but I want to have color profile for it All patches are properly exposed after slight correction of Exposure slider in Camera Raw.
I'm using latest beta3 build
Here is link to DNG and JPG file I'm trying to use
http://www.box.net/shared/4v2rzlzjfp
Thanks!

If you convert your JPG to a DNG can you change the profile to the one you computed from the other JPG you converted to a DNG?
Profiles are not for JPGs. Profiles are for RAW files that ACR supports. You can't (easily/ever) get a RAW file from your Galaxy S and Adobe doesn’t' support that RAW format even if you could.
To see if your profiling is working, you can used the ColorCheck module from a trial version of Imatest that you download from www.imatest.com and look at the color-error.
You can also try the Read_Color_CC24.jsx script from Rags-Gardner:

• I cannot export a slideshow from Iphoto to iTunes

I am trying to export a slideshow from iphoto to itunes so that I can burn it to a dvd. The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.

You are asking about a slideshow in iPhoto on your Mac, right? Then the iLife > iPhoto forum would have been the right one to ask your question. This forum is for iPhoto on IOS devices.
The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.
The "Export" button will become active, when you select a size for your exported movie. Press one of the sizes , for example "Large", if you want to view the movie on your iPad or Apple TV.

• Ow do you burn a slideshow from i photo to a disc

How do you burn a slideshow from Iphoto to a disc.

Export the slideshow from iPhoto, that makes a movie of it.
Do you want to use this DVD in a domestic DVD player? If so, then the disk will have to be 'authored' to make it the correct form for that. If you have iDVD then that's the app you use. However, iDVD is no longer developed or distributed by Apple. You may be able to get it on an old iLIfe install disk.
Other options:
Burn: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/21992/burn
Toast: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/6351/toast-titanium
But there are lots of others too. Search on the App Store or MacUpdate
